Introduces the Roman god Neptune and explains his importance; features well-known Roman myths about this god; and includes map of ancient Rome and family tree of the Roman gods.
This is a good introduction, written for children, to Neptune, Roman god of the Sea and Earthquakes (and horses). The text gives enough information to cover the topic without becoming stale, and the pictures and diagrams in the book are full-color. The book begins with a chart that shows each of the characters that will play a major role in the story, including Pegasus, and a map of their domain (ancient Rome and the surrounding seas to emphasize that the tales take place both above ground and in the underworld). Inserts describing some of the characters in more detail appear every few pages. At the end of the book the authors include a comparison of Greek and Roman god names and descriptions and a family tree.
