This book was a quick and easy read. I must say that the cover is what sucked me in and each individual story kept me intrigued. This book is more than just 4 women working at a makeup counter. And although the author does not go into great detail about each woman’s story, the reader gets a slight glimpse of each struggle that the women face outside of the counter. I do wish that we got to explore more of the characters personal lives, but that wasn’t the main focus of the story. This book is about black women creating a space for themselves to be SEEN and be unapologetically authentic to who they were. That is definitely a message I can stand behind! I love how the author uses the characters to uplift each other and everyone else they come into contact with. The metaphors in this book makes me want re-read and annotate because this book is full of gems. Again, I do wish that we got to explore more of the characters personal lives in depth , but that wasn’t the main focus of the story.
