What would you give up to live your dream?

Your privacy? Your identity? Your freedom?

When an exclusive media collective promises Lily Sinclair everything she’s ever wanted—fame, followers, and a fast escape from her dead-end office life—she vanishes into its glittering world and never looks back.

Online, she’s thriving. The influencers say she’s unstoppable. The photos say she’s living her best life.

But her mother knows better. Behind the filters and brand deals, Karen Sinclair sees that Lily is being watched. Controlled. Erased. Everyone tells Karen she’s paranoid. Hysterical. That she should let go.

Then the powerful minds behind Horizon House try to silence her—and instead of backing down, Karen starts to fight.

The harder she fights, the more she her job, her savings, her home. With nowhere left to turn, she does the unthinkable and teams up with the man she swore never to trust Lily’s father and convicted con artist, Jack Calloway. Charming. Brilliant. Utterly untrustworthy.

But to save her daughter, Karen must believe in the one man whose lies destroyed her life once before—or risk losing Lily forever.

Told through the eyes of Karen, Jack, and Lily, How to Lose a Daughter is a gripping psychological thriller about influence, obsession, and the steep cost of becoming the person the world wants you to be.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Verity, and The Push.

Really, really smart book about the notion of content as currency in the world today. Reads like an episode of Black Mirror to the point where I questioned whether or not author Daniel Craparo was the fiction and the book was a confession.

Smooth as silk; penetrating as a stiletto

Dan Craparo’s first novel draws in the reader with its smoothly crafted portrayal of a woman spiraling out of control as she observes her daughter’s descent into a world that grows darker by the hour. In its suspenseful pacing and clever story telling, the novel does what few other first time psychological thrillers can hope to achieve—it propels the reader into an irresistible world of torment and intrigue, and doesn’t let go from the first page to the last.

This book wasn’t the worst thing I have ever read but also not the best. I read psych thrillers all the time and I’m super confused at how this falls in this category, honestly. There is some decit sure but I wouldn’t classify this as a psych thriller. I feel also like it took 100 pages (half of the book) to get to a point where I wanted to continue reading.

This novel may be shorter than what I typically gravitate toward, but it’s all the better for it. The pacing is tight, the storytelling is efficient, and not a single word feels wasted. Despite its length, it covers a remarkable amount of ground, both emotionally and thematically.

Told through multiple points of view, the book skillfully avoids the pitfalls common in thrillers. There are no forced plot twists or clunky exposition dumps. Instead, what unfolds is a grounded, believable narrative that captures how chaotic and unfair real life can feel, especially for working-class families caught in the gears of power, money, and manipulation.

What truly sets this book apart is its empathy. It doesn’t just tell a suspenseful story; it highlights how easily systems can fail ordinary people. It also serves as a quiet warning, particularly to parents raising teens in the digital age. There’s an underlying message here about the dangers of overexposure online, and the vulnerability it can create, that feels incredibly timely.

Daniel Crapora deserves a lot of credit for crafting a story that’s both fast-paced and socially resonant. A powerful, memorable read that lingers long after the final page.

I really enjoyed reading this book and found it to be a refreshing and engaging experience. The characters were well-drawn and interesting, each with their own voice and depth that kept me invested throughout the story. The plot struck a great balance realistic enough to feel grounded, yet still entertaining and full of momentum. It kept me turning the pages, eager to see what would happen next.

One minor drawback for me was Horizon House, I felt it could have used a bit more development and atmospheric detail. I would have loved to see that setting more fully fleshed out, as it seemed like it had a lot of potential to add to the story’s depth.

That said, this indie author really impressed me. The storytelling was strong, the characters memorable, and I definitely had a fun time reading it. If you’re looking to support indie fiction and enjoy thoughtful, entertaining narratives, this one is worth picking up.

This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed his attention to details that pulled me into the character's world from the start. I enjoyed the author's ability to tell this story in the POV of three characters and not letting it get confusing. This is a well written story about how one mother has to trust another's lies to save her daughter. Karen sees that her daughter is being watched by a stranger. She finds herself having to trust the one person she was determined not to, Lily's father. Don't miss what happens with this thriller. I enjoyed the characters and how connectable they were. They have great growth throughout the story which made it easy to read. The twist and turns had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. This is a well written, engaging story that is fast paced and hard to put down. I enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend this stor

A fast-paced psychological suspense thriller, this book had me hooked from the beginning! It pulled me through clear to the end.

Karen is a mother who only wants what's best for her adult daughter, Lily. And Lily is trying to pursue her dreams, but down what seems to be a misguided path. Throw into that mix Lily's ex-con deadbeat father now showing back up on the scene, and Karen cannot win for losing.

Told from the point of views first of Karen, the mother, then of Lily, the daughter, and finally of Jack, the father, this book proves how if you own the narrative on social media, you can most likely own the day. But can Karen extricate her daughter from this cult-like world before she loses her forever? Or something even worse happens?

As Karen gets help from an unlikely source, is it enough to save the day before its too late? And who, at the end of the day, is going to own that narrative and win in the court of public opinion when the consequences are dire?

Thank you to Daniel Craparo for allowing me to read his debut novel "How To Lose A Daughter."
This book really hit me in the feels as a mother of a teenage daughter. The experiences our characters go through in this story felt real and relatable. From the first few pages, I was completely gripped by this story, and it remained a compelling read throughout. Craparo's writing is strong, the pacing moves beautifully, and the emotional depth resonates profoundly. This is a genuinely well-written and insightful book that I wholeheartedly recommend!

Recieved this book from Indie Author. I got it on Sat. afternoon and read through the night. It's 200 pages, quick read. This book grabs you from the beginning to the end. Unique story line, great characters. Relatable to internet Influencers today. The Mother is my kinda Mom to protect her child she goes the extra. No matter how old you are, your Mom has your back. Horizon House is like a cult for young Influencers. They prey on younger quite nieve young people and brainwash them. There are alot of twist. Believe any age appropriate.

Craparo's incisive prose drives a relentlessly fast pace as it explores a chillingly realistic setting of predatory influencer culture that feels both intimate and globally relevant. The main characters—especially the desperate mother—are drawn with intense psychological detail, making her frantic struggle to reclaim her daughter highly empathetic and immediate. This is a timely, compulsively readable thriller that brilliantly uses its modern constructed reality to comment on obsession, control, and the devastating cost of a life lived online.

This was a quick, easy read—and a gripping story! It hooked me pretty quickly and kept me invested the whole way through. The writing is strong, the pacing moves well, and the emotional depth is powerful. I especially enjoyed Jack’s character—his struggle, his growth, and his outcome really stood out to me. A well-written, thought-provoking read I’d definitely recommend!

I found this book very interesting. It was a quick read. It kept my attention and I didn't want to put it down.

The ending was a typical ending.

Spoiler

Everything worked out. The father's involvement being "available" and so accepting of his ex-wife when she had nowhere else to go unexpected. I thought his involvement would have been more than it was. It was all tied up so nicely with no loose ends.

While all three characters, Karen, Jack and Lily have their voices heard in this captivating page-turner Karen's is the loudest. She is an intriguing character with depth and passion. Lily is a strong character with dimension. Jack is the 'hero' but his character lacks the foundation Karen and Lilly have. The storyline is strong with fearful elements - if this could happen in real life. An enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book. I would label it more suspense. Saying that. The twists were twisting and the writing was wonderful. Had me waking up early so I could read before farm chores and taking care of my hyperactive 8 yr old. I really enjoyed his multiple pov. Mr. Craparo fantastic job. I can't wait to read more from you.

Never try and con and con!!

The Author gifted this for my book club to read, and I’m so glad! It’s a quick read about the chokehold social media fame has on young adults, and the lengths a parent will go to just to save them. I think I would have enjoyed a longer more detailed version but it was a page turner!! Thank you for sharing!!

great read with a great message

The flow of the writing was magnificent. The story was great and had a deeper message about people and society. I feel there’s also an underlying message about social media and how we perceive and utilize it to our own advantages.

Interesting twist on content culture

A telling statement of the manipulation of truth in social media content and the potential of harmful influence if used unscrupulously. An interesting and fast-paced read.

Thank you for the opportunity to read your book. I don’t know that this fits into the thriller category, rather more suspense. I liked the story line but felt some of the interactions were more surface level and I was hoping for something a bit deeper from a details perspective.

This book was one that I wanted to sit and read through in a day. But, mom of three makes that difficult. I liked the story line, the characters, and the pace. The end felt a bit rushed, but the point was very well made. Would recommend.
