Bill and Ellen are trying to rekindle their relationship. After accepting an invitation to a private resort, Bill and Ellen find themselves accompanied by wealthy guests on a secluded, lush island. After Ellen and another guest encounter a massive glowing crab, everything changes.
As the days go by, Bill realizes something is wrong with nearly everyone on the island, especially his wife. Feeling alone and outnumbered, he investigates and discovers horrors beyond imagination.
Combining eldritch visceral horror and paranoia set against a tropical backdrop, Paul E Cooley's Sacculina will leave you shivering.
My primary complaint is that the creatures really did not seem like creatures. Once infected they still came across as humans. Besides that the concept of the creature is super scary, the characters were entertaining along with gruesome scenes throughout. It was a fun read and Cooley sure can come up with nasty sea creatures.
Disappointed by the amount of lesbian sex is an understatement
At first, I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. But, once these couples arrived on the island, I did not appreciate the amount of sex, and especially did not appreciate the lesbian activities. I love a good creature horror book, but I do not want the book to be overrun with sleazy escapades. I would have rated this book much higher, but if I wanted to read a porn book, I would have chosen one. I like creature horror books and was not prepared for this.
