Absolute Flash is starting to take off!

description

I have to say that I wasn't all that impressed by the first 2 issues, but all of a sudden things are getting interesting. And to think, I almost didn't bother with this one.

description

So the main thing that interested me was Grodd. In this version, he's a little monkey with a tragic Bambi-esque origin story. I mean, if Bambi had been experimented on and turned into an intelligent deer with psychic powers.
But he's broken off from the Rogues after making contact with Wally's mind and feeling a sameness in the loss of both of their mothers.
And now they're BFFs on the run.

description

This is getting cool.

“I’ve always known
Something was wrong with me

But now

It feels like I’m bursting apart

Like—if I don’t move I’m going to explode into a million little pieces and no one will ever be able to put me back together again.”

Issue 3 is the best of the absolute flash so far. The orange mullet with the neon palette is STUNNING

These issues are sooo short. The art is incredible. I thought the storytelling was a little lacking in the first 2 issues, but it is picking up even though they are still very short. I suppose it’s fitting the speed I get through them is fast ;)

Easily the best issue yet. We really get to see Wally being pushed to his brink. Grodd is introduced and it's freaking amazing twist to the character. Love how the action scenes are played out in this series too. Keep going flash, give me more of this!

This book looks amazing. The combo of Robles’ art, Lucas’ color, and Napolitano’s lettering is so distinctive. Napolitano in particular is making me take notice - the stuff he’s doing with Wally and Grodd’s dialogue is stunning. I’m still left wanting more of the story since this issue is basically one long action sequence but there are some really intriguing hints here. Why is Wally’s dad working with the Rogues??

Glad we’re getting Grodd with Wally now and Thawne’s mentioned, but do I also need to be the fastest reader alive for this issue? It’s soooo short! It’s good, but I read this in like 2 minutes…

A middle issue that begins to show its potential—Wally and Grodd’s budding partnership is the highlight—but it still feels like we’re easing into the core of the story rather than diving in. Promising, but not quite there yet.

So many characters in different places to the mainline versions. I really love this version of Wally but I also love the other one. It’s a good era to be a Flash fan. Such a fantastic issue

Captain Cold: “@#$%, the monkey’s gone rogue!”

This has definitely been my favorite issue so far, just non stop action and horrific memories getting drawn up to finally culminate into a mindset of peace for Wally…with the help of someone very special. But more on that later, as right out the gate in this issue we finally get the full picture of what happened to Barry. The moment the experiment in the lab gave Wally his powers he made a connection with Barry, and in his fear…Wally Ran. The entire time dragging Barry behind him, Barry suffering a slow death with his flesh peeling off before finally making it to that cave we found his corpse in earlier. But even then he didn’t fully die and Wally had to watch as Barry’s corpse like body reached out begging for help.

Back in the present day, while being pursued by the rogues, Wally has finally slowed down and stopped to rest in a barn. In response the rogues have decided to reply the monkey aka Grodd! We saw grodd in the first issue in a test chamber, we now he is a psychic little green monkey with his brain open in the back. What’s really interesting is that the lab is able to feed into Grodd’s eyes to watch everything, and the person behind the controls was referred to only as Thawne. Eobard?! Is that you?! Even more horrific than Barry’s body being dragged through the speed force is the man bun Thawne is rocking, lmao.

But heres the thing with Grodd, they sent him in to make contact with Wally and he successfully did so, I mean if I was Wally and a little green monkey reached out his glowing E.T. hand to connect I would have a hard time saying no, but this connection had very unintended consequences for fort fox immediately upon connecting the two shared each others memories and once they got past the most recent horrific events for Wally, they were able to dig down and relate to each other over their moms. Turns out both Wally and Grodd had moms that died and now both of them have been on the receiving side of tests, so they have a lot to relate to each other with. And almost immediately Grodd swaps sides and starts communicating with Wally psychically, they are the same and they will work together! Hahahaha, yes!

Even after sending in Grodd the rogues don’t let up, and only moments later a boomerang comes flying through to destroy the barn. Wally starts to get worked up again, he wants to run but the images of Barry hold him back…all until Grodd comes close and helps him calm down. Wally and Grodd now stand together, and not only is Grodd able to help Wally control his emotions…but he is also able to immediately release psychic attacks on the rear of the rogues. I’m not exactly sure why but for some reason the only rogue Grodd can’t touch is captain boomerang, and even more curious boomerang refers to himself in multiples. He says that the “ape can’t touch me or boomer…” and at another point says “he’s really starting to piss us off.” Do the boomerangs have their own sentient life attached to them, or what is happening here?

Even though Grodd can’t deal with boomer…Wally can! And instead of running he decides to face the threat head-on, or really fist toward as he punches boomer out of the sky. Wally then convinces Grodd to come with him. And as we bring the issue to a close Wally decides to go back to Wally’s corpse to collect the speed shit and take it on himself, for the first time he now feels free and absolute flash is finally born! With this newfound courage and companionship I cannot wait to see where he goes next. Also let’s not forget, that fort can still see everything from Grodd’s eyes!! Unwinder if that use here the footage came from that mirror master in the first issue saw.

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️

Absolute Flash #3 elevates the series to a new level by introducing a reimagined Gorilla Grodd, whose sole power—telepathy—brings a refreshing and chilling focus to the narrative. In contrast to the traditional portrayal of Grodd as a physically imposing adversary, this iteration emphasizes the profound and often unsettling implications of mental manipulation.

The issue delves into the complexities of Grodd's telepathic abilities, showcasing how he forms a deep, empathetic connection with Wally West. Their shared experiences of loss and trauma create a bond that blurs the lines between ally and adversary, leaving readers questioning Grodd's true intentions. Is he a friend, a foe, or something in between? This ambiguity adds a rich layer of intrigue to the story.

The artwork complements the narrative beautifully, with vivid depictions of the psychic link between Wally and Grodd. The visual representation of their mental connection is both mesmerizing and haunting, enhancing the emotional depth of their interactions.

Absolute Flash #3 masterfully balances action, emotion, and psychological complexity, making it a standout installment in the series. The introduction of a telepathy-focused Grodd not only reinvigorates a classic character but also sets the stage for compelling developments in future issues.

The best issue of the three-part origin story, though I'm a bit glad we can move onto the comic proper now. This new Grodd is a great re-interpretation of the character and it's nice to see this Wally finally get some sort of ally.

The groundwork for a really interesting new version of The Flash has been laid. I just hope the writers can do it justice.

I really like issue and this series so far. It’s got an emotional richness that isn’t necessarily the most evocative or though provoking but man is it very pleasing and enjoyable for me to read. I also love gorilla grodd so far, the dialogue he has and the images he’s shown are so simple but so evocative, i really enjoy it.

Just wild. Pulling Barry along with him as he’s running away from what happened but dragging Barry as he’s dying was wild. Also the mini bond started between Gorilla Grodd and Wally was nice, a little rushed but I can’t wait to see what comes next.

I'm having fun with this. I just wish the issues weren't SOOOOOOO SHORT. Though these first three issues have clearly served as a exposition arc so I wonder how pacing and things will change going forward. I'm really loving the art and the writing.

A great couple of introductory issues for this series, I absolutely ADORE the artwork in this, the colours are so vibrant and stylish and really give the visuals a nice pop. Also a massive fan of Wally and Grodd having a friendly dynamic from the beginning, excited to see what they do with this.
