Willa Willis doesn’t need anyone. After years of self-discipline and staunch routines, she’s curated the life she always wanted. Her photography studio is a proud middle finger to her estranged family and everyone else who doubted her. But even a self-made woman has to let loose once in a while. A birthday trip is exactly the break she needs, until Mr. Too Perfect shows up.
Trevor Jones lives life on the bright side. Despite a harrowing childhood, the former Coast Guardsman doesn’t sweat the small stuff and never holds a grudge—except for one. When the past comes back to haunt him, a weekend getaway serves as the perfect distraction. Running into the woman of his dreams is icing on the cake.
Convinced they’re incompatible, Willa refuses to give him the time of day. Trevor’s determined to prove her wrong. When they end up in the same bar, one flirty encounter leads to an unforgettable night together. But the next morning she’s gone, forcing him to grapple with unanswered questions and radio silence.
Willa’s intent on leaving the past where it is...until two little pink lines shake up all her plans.
Layna James lives in Texas with her family, an anxiety-ridden Rottie named Ruby, and way too many ideas about future projects.
A romantic at heart, her stories feature diverse characters who navigate the complexities of life while falling in love. Witty banter and swoon-worthy moments are her favorite things to write.
Layna loves fuzzy socks, most types of dessert, and all genres of music.
Always Will is the third book in the Fort Bender series, but it's my first time picking up Layna James and it will NOT be my last!! I cannot wait to read the first two books and am anticipating book four so much!
This book was stunning. Flawlessly executed, chock-full of so many things I love and enjoy in a romance novel—and some things I typically don't, but really loved here! James' prose is absolutely poetic and heartwarming, the angst is perfectly captured, and Willa and Trevor are two of the most realistically-written characters I've ever read.
After a one night stand leads to an unexpected pregnancy, Willa and Trevor are forced to get to know each other and eventually fall in love. Willa is a plus sized Black woman who has been mistreated by men, neglected by her parents, and made to feel like she's a lot to handle. Trevor had a traumatic upbringing and experienced feeling inadequate due to an ex's infidelity. They both triumph over their coping mechanisms and help each other heal in such a beautiful way.
The way these two supported one another, empowered each other to be their best selves, and created a family was so wonderful. The supporting cast of characters was interesting and dynamic—even the ones who were the villains.
I loved it so much I read it in one sitting. Thank you to Layna James for sending me an ARC!
I loved every page of this book! Between Willa with her stubbornness, issues with control and independence all the way to Trevors golden retriever personality (with a pinch of pitbull when needed for his girl 😉).
This story prioritized seeking help when it comes to mental health. Tackling crowd anxiety, abandonment and toxic relationships. MC’s that all advocate for therapy? Yes please!
As it dove into deeper topics, we are also given plenty of spicy scenes and moments that will make you say “awww” 🥰
I definitely recommend this to any reader who is looking for your not so typical love story. And let me mention, no 3rd act break up!!
4.5⭐️ | 3🌶 I saw this book a few months ago and immediately I wanted to read it when it came out. When ARCs opened, I jumped and am so glad I did. I really enjoyed this one. It was tender and heartfelt and so wholesome. I loved Trevor's family and their unwavering support structure they provided. I also loved Baby's name. I melted it was so cute. All sensitive topics in this story were covered with care but still TW. I will also say that I was a little lost when the group chat chapter and the chapter thereafter rolled around. I felt the gap in timeline between the two was a little too big and therefore, felt rushed. Thank you to luna literary management for the arc.
From the beginning to about the 90% mark this book is the perfect accidental pregnancy, Black cat -Golden Retriever, found family book. Everything after that feels like an extend epilogue. But it’s cozy and gives you all the feels. If you love the let me take care of you Miss Independent, break down all your walls, and talk dirty to you sometime vibes than this is your book. If you love a hunky cinnamon roll who deserves all the love this is going to make you down right giddy. Now there is a lot of emotion baggage to wade through with our guarded, stubborn fmc and the author basically takes us through all 9 months and some change, so pacing wise it’s a touch slow. But it doesn’t drag. It’s an interconnected series but completely easy to read as a standalone. And if you love good descriptive writing and well developed characters it rings those bells and made happy I’ve got books I get to go back to and get more into this author.
Really enjoyable read! I was hooked from the first chapter, liked the writing style and how kind of poetic the conversation between MCs is.
I identified a lot with Willa’s hyper-independence which was encouraged by her parents and others around her. Trevor is the perfect kind, supportive counterbalance of an MMC. Just what she needs though she doesn’t maybe know it!
I liked how they slowly slid into each other and got to know more and more about each other while being thrown together in this situation with pregnancy after a one night stand. Their love grows so nice and sweetly, despite perhaps Willa trying to not have it happen for a bit 😄 I just adored it!
Trevor made me swoon a few different times but really when it comes to Willa and dealing her family. He’s so, so good. And I loved seeing her own growth there too.
Really lovely read that gave me all the warm fuzzies, relatively low angst between the MCs, and some spice to tie it all together. If you like an accidental pregnancy with a doting, caring man and a hyper-independent woman who grows sweet on him, this is a good one - recommended!
I’ll have to go back and read the others sometime soon!
4/5 ⭐️
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
This was an incredibly sweet and beautiful story. It had so many of my favourite things- hot people doing hot things, learning, growing, accepting people when they are safe and telling them no when they are not, human people feeling human things, consent, setting boundaries, communication even when it is uncomfortable, and a baby. Swoons & feet kicks galore. I loved it so much!
Willa is a photographer genius who owns her own studio and teaches new photographers because she wants to make a difference and be for them what she never had.
Trevor is a super smart tech guy who is incredible at his job and working towards his professional goals while supporting his team.
They have known each other for years because they have friends in common and he dated her sister briefly. He thinks she is amazing. She thinks he is the most annoying. They end up having a night of grown up fun (he's annoying, not unattractive) and a baby is made. And so begins their together adventure. Squeals!
Willa is beautiful. Her mind, her perspective, her everything. She is fiercely independent because she has had to be. She lost the parent lottery big time and has had to be her own family & support for years, so it is tough for her to ask for or receive help. Learning how to start doing that is hard and watching her put in the work is really special.
Trevor is the sweetest, kindest, most everything man. His love and respect for Willa is so beautiful. He is obsessed with her and how she sees the world. He isn't perfect but that is what makes him the perfect man for her. He is such a good man who is doing the work to heal his heart & mind for his own health & safety and his family's. *fans face*
Individually they are brilliant, together they are genius perfection. I love they way they talk and communicate, even when it takes time to get there or they have to wade through some shtuff first. Their relationship journey is so emotional and intense and wonderful. And the way they talk about therapy is so good and important.
This was my first Layna James book and I am officially a fan! The way she wove this story together and wrote these characters is incredible. My brain loved it so much and found it easy to follow and keep track of people & places.
I received this as an ARC and am so grateful. This has had no impact on my review which is based entirely on the story itself.
After being talked into attending a music festival for her birthday weekend by her sister with a couple of their friends, Willa was ready to get away from the noise and spend some introverted alone time by herself. Having a few drinks at the bar, Trevor, her sister's friend that Willa can’t stand because he’s “too nice,” decides he’s gonna make his move and strike up a conversation with her. Trevor has been attracted to Willa for a long time, but Willa won’t give him the time of day because she thinks she doesn’t deserve a good man and always picks losers who treat her like boo boo.
Well, Trevor and Willa get to drinking and chatting, and they get down with the get down. At the festival, they have a one-night stand (really a collision that was bound to happen because that woman knew that man was fine), and a few weeks later, Willa finds out she’s pregnant with Trevor.
When Trevor finds out that his dream girl is pregnant with his child, he makes it his mission to win Willa over so they can fall in love and raise their child together.
Trevor breaks down her walls, shows up like he was born to, and becomes the peace that Willa needs after dealing with feelings of being unloved by her parents.
I loved that this story took place mostly in So Cal.
Trevor- He was such a golden retriever lover boy, and I was here for it. He was exactly what Willa needed and he did not play about her. He checked her raggedy parents and was down for whatever Willa wanted without being a simp.
Willa- she was on a nerve for a bit and at times. She had some issues she needed to work with, and she should’ve been seeing her therapist weekly. I kept saying, “Girl, if you don’t let this man love you!!” a few times.
This book gave all the feels- literally, I felt like Willa was my homegirl, and I wanted to smack her upside her head with how she treated Trevor sometimes.
This is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns.
What’s inside this book: Nicknames “Gem”💎 Black Love🖤 Found Family 🥰 She’s Grumpy and He’s Sunshine☀️ “Her Peace”💟
4.5 rounded up — this was such a sweet, accidental pregnancy, opposites attract romance!!! I loved how character focus it was and how much time we got with Willa and Trevor coming together and learning about one another and having their feelings build.
The two have known each other for some time but Willa has never really liked Trevor (ok she really dislikes him actually lol). Meanwhile, Trevor has been having feelings for his friend’s sister for a bit! Willa is a fiercely independent, eldest daughter and she can come off a bit cold and stubborn when you first meet her. But she just likes her routines, her quiet, and putting all her passion into her photography business. Trevor is very much the sunshine golden retriever to her black cat. As Willa put it—he’s just so happy all the time that it seems unnatural. But underneath those smiles and easy going attitude, Trevor does hold his own share of struggles.
Both of them have to navigate the changes of suddenly now having someone else in their life for at least the next 18 years (ofc to Trevor he’s wanting forever from the very beginning). I really liked how Trevor didn’t try and push Willa into anything too fast; he saw what had her hesitant and worked to meet her where she was comfortable. But at the same time, he didn’t back down from making her aware that he gets to be involved and worry about her. It was good to see Willa drop her walls and start seeing things from Trevor’s pov.
Also, I loved the way therapy and mental health was so seamlessly included and spoke about—love no shame mental health!!! The neurodivergent details with Willa were great and the way Trevor so clearly saw her and matched her needs, had me swooning!!! The family struggles mixed with the found family aspects creates the perfect dynamic imo.
Overall, this is a great forced proximity romance with great blend of sweet, spice, emotions, and kicking-your-feet while blushing kind of love. Highly recommend!
Thank you to LunaLiterary and the author for the eARC, review is my own honest opinion. (Read on KU post release as life got crazy beforehand.)
Thankfully, I finally had time to dive into the Fort Bender series and now I’m absolutely obsessed. I love this friend group so much, and the series truly gets better with each book. That being said, while this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting from the beginning which is what I did so I feel like it got the full experience
Willa has been my favorite FMC so far, mostly because she’s a little mean and stubborn (I loved the reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic). I also appreciated how independent she was, yet allowed herself to slowly accept that she deserved happiness and joy. Watching her open up and work through her insecurities was so rewarding especially as she realized she had support, even if it didn’t come from the people she initially expected.
Trevor. I mean, do I even need to list all the reasons we love him? He’s supportive, protective, and never hesitated to stand up for Willa when she needed it most. But what I loved most was how he gave her space to be herself and move at her own pace, while also not change who he is at his core.
If you couldn’t already tell, Trevor and Willa are my favorite couple in the series so far. The gem misunderstanding had me laughing, because I absolutely thought it was a Jim Halpert reference! Also, the spice was just right, it was really good and not overwhelming at all. (Side note: I love a good “be a good boy” moment.)
One thing I really appreciated about this book, most stories end with the baby being born and we get out HEA, but this author went a step further. They showed what comes after and that things don’t magically go back to normal overnight, and it takes real effort and growth. That was such a thoughtful and realistic touch.
Overall, I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to visit Fort Bender again.
I find it really funny that this is the first book I’m reading in the series- kind of reminds me of this book. I love love loved this book. I forgot the amazing feeling of when you’re reading a book for the first time and you have to pause and take a second to appreciate that you’re reading a book that is going to be one of your favorites for the first time. This book so so sweet and gentle. I’ve appreciated both Willa and Trevor, so perfectly imperfect. Cannot wait to read the first two books of this series, and defintely will be rereading this again. Also, I felt so seen with Willa as someone who is extremely sensitive to loud noises 🥺
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5 stars) | 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (4 chilis) Listen, I’m not even going to hold you—Willa’s attitude threw me off for a second at the beginning of this book. But once I got a deeper look into her life, I realized I had made a snap judgment. I couldn’t possibly blame her for being hyper-independent and stubborn, especially considering the way her parents raised her (that mother of hers, whew).
Then there’s Trevor—pure golden retriever energy from the start! I loved how Willa’s blunt, no-nonsense personality only drew him in more. No matter how sarcastic or guarded she was, he stayed steady, patient, and absolutely smitten. Their opposite personalities set the pages on fire—the chemistry between them was dripping, honey!
What really stood out was how Layna James explored Trevor’s layered family background. He was raised and deeply loved by his adoptive parents alongside his siblings, which gave him the foundation to be the loyal, big-hearted man he is. But at the same time, living in the same city as his biological parents—who should have loved and protected him but instead took their frustrations out on him—left him scarred with coping mechanisms he carried into adulthood. That balance of love and trauma was written so beautifully, and it made me admire Trevor even more.
Now let’s talk romance—one passionate night leaves Trevor and Willa tethered for life 👀. Watching them navigate love, fear, pushback, and vulnerability was an absolute ride. Trevor’s unwavering love for Willa was everything. This man literally uprooted his life and stood ten toes down for her no matter what. Swoon-worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it.
And babyyy, the spice? Let’s just say Trevor might look like a cupcake, but he will put you through a mattress, okay!? Willa’s sass carried into the bedroom, and sis gave as good as she got—if not better!
Even though I didn’t start this series from the beginning, it wasn’t hard to follow, and now I definitely plan to go back and read the first two books. Layna James wrote these characters so beautifully, balancing depth, heart, and steam. Highly recommend this book (and series) 💖.
First off, let me just say, Willa is the definition of grumpy, and Trevor is the sunshine that balances her out perfectly. This was my first Ms. Grumpy x Mr. Sunshine romance and the difference threw me off at first lol.
Accidental pregnancies are usually hit or miss for me, but this one worked because of how healthy the relationship dynamic was. I loved that Willa was willing to admit when she was wrong, and that both of them actually communicated like grown adults.
Another thing I adored was that therapy was openly discussed throughout the story and not in that usual dismissive, stereotypical “Black families don’t do therapy” kind of way, but as something normal, and healthy. That was so refreshing to see.
Overall, I really loved this book. It was wholesome, romantic, sarcastic (thanks to Willa’s sharp mouth), and deeply relatable, especially given her parents. I’ve been finding more healthy Black romances lately, and this one was definitely a gem. 💕
Thank you so much to Layna James for an eARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
4🌟 When I saw this book beautiful book had ARCS open a few months ago, I immediately knew I had to try and get it. If I hadn't the luck to get one, I would've definitely bought it. Ngl I haven't read the other 2 books in this series and that's totally okay!! Reading this one specifically made me 1000000000% want to read them and I'm about to go do that
This book was tender and so absolutely wholesome, every word written in each chapter? WOW. I loved LOVED his family and all the support they provided. All sensitive topics in this story were covered with care but still TW. I've to say a huge Thank you to Luna Literary for the arc. It's 10000% worth your time so please please go read this book
What you will find inside this book: 💜One Night Stand 💟Accidental Pregnancy 💜Ms. Grumpy/Mr. Sunshine 💟Forced Proximity 💜Slow Burn 💟Hurt/Comfort 💜Found Family 💟No 3rd Act Break-up
Willa and Trevor return in the third installment of the swoony romance centered around the small town of Fort Bender!
Willa loves to be in control of everything in her life. When she decides to let loose and have a one-night stand on her birthday, she's still the one calling the shots. Trevor has been crushing on Willa for a while now so when she proposes he brings her up to his room, who is he to say no? Both of their lives change forever when they learn that Willa is carrying their child a few weeks later. Now, Willa must learn how to let Trevor into her heart before their child enters the world. I have been looking forward to reading this one ever since I finished the second book, "Sunshine With You." I adored reading about Ashlie and Hunter, so I was excited to learn more about Ashlie's sister, Willa, in this one.
This is the first accidental pregnancy romance that I've ever read, so I was interested to see what I'd think about this trope. I feel that James pulled off this trope in pretty much the only way that I would enjoy it. Trevor already adores Willa before he accidentally impregnates her. It takes Willa a little longer to completely fall for Trevor, but they truly have a wholesome relationship that suits both of them perfectly. The pregnancy pushed them together, sure, but they are truly a perfect pairing. I think my biggest problem with the entire situation is just how uncomfortable pregnancy makes me in general. No shame to people who are pregnant or wanting to be, but reading about it just isn't the easiest for me.
One of the things that I sincerely enjoyed about this one is how Willa and Trevor help each other through their personal traumas and insecurities. Willa was in a past relationship with someone who abused her and Trevor was born into a violent household. They both could relate to the flashbacks and insecurities that the other goes through, which really helped their relationship thrive.
This book takes place over an entire year, which is something that I don't often see in romances. On one hand, it sort of felt like I was reading this book in fast forward and some events that usually would have been important got cut because we needed to make it through the entirety of Willa's pregnancy. On the other hand, it meant that it created more of a slowburn nature, while still being jam packed with steamy things. I'm going to take the amount of time this book covers as mostly a positive thing.
After the pregnancy is over, Willa has a whole other round of insecurities that have absolutely nothing to do with her past relationships. With her baby officially out of her body, she fears that Trevor will no longer find her attractive. This is so far from the truth, but I think it's something that many new mother's feel, especially when it comes to sex. Being confident in the bedroom can be insanely hard, so fearing that one's changing body could upset their partner in some way is entirely understandable. I really appreciate the way that James has Trevor and Willa talk to each other about all the issues their having, including this one.
It was really fun seeing all the characters from the first two books in this series. Hunter and Ashlie are constantly making bets throughout this book, which if you know them at all is sure to bring a smile to your face. Kayla and Chase are at the point where they're having their first babies, too, which was really cute. I love romance series where you can keep tabs on the previous couples as the series progresses; they are truly the best.
I love the fact that Willa owns her own photography studio. I think photography is interesting and I enjoy reading about those who are passionate in the fine arts. It also made for a great plot point, because Willa's parents are very strict (as we first saw in "Sunshine With You") and they are supremely disapproving of her career choices. Trevor sticks up to Willa's parents, which is another great scene that builds trust between these two.
Overall, "Always Will" is another great installment in the "Fort Bender" series. Willa and Trevor have such a sweet relationship, and it was fun to see their trust build up as the book progressed. I am not a huge fan of books that focus on pregnancy at this stage in my life, but I'm still glad that I continued with this series and saw Willa and Trevor through to their happily ever after.
As a new reader of Layna James, I didn’t know what to truly expect of her, so as always, I was very open-minded to see what she would bring to the table. Let me tell you, I do not regret my decision to start reading her books.
Always Will was so perfectly written and put together that I could not put it down until I read it from beginning to end. The characters were amazing and I loved reading about them and seeing into their life. Although I didn't read the first two books in the series I felt as if I could go into this book without having read them which in my opinion was great because I felt as if I didn't miss all that much of the previous books.
Both Willa and Trevor were fantastic characters and although they had been through quite a lot they were strong in so many ways and they really were such a good pairing. The whole surprise pregnancy aspect of their relationship really made the story when it brought them closer to one another.
This was so well written and really focused on mental health and showed real things that occur in people’s lives so the realistic aspect of this was well included. Despite Willa’s stubbornness and seriousness she was a great fmc and she really had some strong character growth throughout and by the end of the book I’m glad she was able to really get a happy ending with someone as special as Trevor who would do literally anything for her and their baby.
Trevor was amazing and so very strong and overall a sweet man even though he had been through a lot during his childhood he was able to really find someone who loves and cares about him! I love the way they come together and were able to build a strong relationship between them and be able to enjoy and love one another.
Overall I enjoyed this book so much that I would recommend it for someone looking for a realistic love story with two strong main characters who overcome so much💙
My gosh. This series right here has my heart ya'll 😭🙌🏾 I didn't wanna leave this book cause Layna sprinkles feel goods throughout this entire thing!!!
Trevor is a book boyfriend. Just. Hands down. 100% No questions or what ifs. Pack this hot af hunk up, cause I need one immediately!
I can't even count the amount of times I swooned. What started as a chance meeting over the years turned into a get-together with drinks that leads into something more... much more. Willa is headstrong and our girl is determined, pitting against her judgemental family but holding her own, she doesn't let anything stop her. Taking up a night of passion with the guy she finds attractive (but sometimes can't stand), opens up a brand new world.
Trevor just seemed like literal sunshine in Willa's circle, always appearing to give her a little boost. Despite the slight avoidance, when their discovery brings them closer, she learns there's more to the former coastguard than she thought. Behind that sweet smile and honest intention is a man with a loaded past, but a heart of gold and determination to turn what they have between them into something real.
I'm so glad no one could hear my happy gremlin noises as I read this book.
The care giving. The consideration. The love. The effort. The joy. The ups and downs. It's always you. His mind was made up. I just.. no words, just smiles. And a permanent place in my book boyfriend list because TREVOR is everything. Layna spun gold with this book.
Annnnnnd he has a hint of country in him too?? 😭🙌🏾

✨️ Like with every book read the Content Warnings before diving in!
Willa grew up learning to navigate life on her own, never feeling the need to rely on anyone. In contrast, Trevor is the epitome of sunshine—always smiling and almost too perfect for her taste.
One decision to let loose on her birthday and finally do something for herself has resulted in a complicated (and spicy) entanglement, along with a late birthday gift arriving in nine months.

Accidental pregnancy tropes are usually hit or miss for me, but this one is a resounding hit!
I was honestly intimidated by the number of pages after receiving the ARC, but by the time I finished, I felt that 420 pages of Willa and Trevor simply wasn't enough for me.
As someone who didn’t read the other books in the series and dove into this one without any background on the main characters, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-developed they were. The story provided the right amount of backstory and personality for us to love and understand them.
I really enjoyed how lighthearted the entire book was. Aside from a few hiccups involving family, ex-relationships, and the usual pregnancy situations, there were no overwhelming conflicts. Dare I say it strikes the perfect balance between fluff and spice?
I would love to discuss specific scenes I enjoyed, but I’ll save that for when the book is officially released so I can avoid major spoilers.
Overall, I truly loved and enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the following tropes:
— grumpy x sunshine — one night stand — accidental pregnancy — hurt/comfort
Thank you so much to Layna James and Luna Literary Management for gifting me this ARC!
Thank you to Layna James for the chance to read an advance copy of this heart-warming and healing story! Everyone needs a Trevor🥰
Willa has fought to cut out her happy space and build a world for herself. She likes her peace and solitude. Until a birthday trip to San Diego where she gives in to a moment of spontaneity and has a one-night with Trevor, a long-time friend of her sister. A few weeks later she discovers she is having their child. Is Willa ready to be a mom? Will she have to do it all on her own, or will she overcome her fears and allow Trevor to be a part of her life?
James sets the story of two people who have childhood trauma who come together over the repercussions of a one-night stand. The journey these two go on to blend together over the baby is just so healing.
Willa never had a good relationship with her family and for decades felt that she was the only person she could rely on. Trevor bulldozes her every road block and forces her to realize she is no longer alone. The small (and major) gestures this man does to help her move on from her past is nothing about of swoon worthy!
In exchange, Will worms past Trevor's own defenses that he throws up during some pretty intense events during the pregnancy. Trevor uses humor and putting others before himself as a way to "make up" for being the cause of everyone's problems...or so that's how he sees himself. Just as he blew through Willa's excuses, she repairs his broken heart and helps him accept that his childhood was not his fault.
This love story was so perfect! I truly appreciated the way James crafted the characters' personalities and showed maturity during their struggle to heal. Such a fun read!

“You’re the sound waves rippling across the ends of the earth and back, calling to that secluded place in my heart. You’re the ocean that swept me up, molded me, gave me new purpose. It’s you, and it’s been you for so long, I can’t remember a time before you.”
“If someone’s going to look down on you for improving your quality of life, they’re not someone worth keeping around.”
I received an advanced copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The above opinions are my own.
*arc review* 5⭐️ LAYNAAAAA YOU DID IT AGAIN! All those who were Team Trevor from sunshine with you, you’re going to love this one. Tbh even if you weren’t team Trevor you’re going to love this one! He is just the sweet soul ever!!
“I Love you” “Always Will” - Trevor & Willa 🥹
What do you get when you mix a grumpy fmc & a sunshine mmc one night stand? The perfect accidental pregnancy! I can honestly rave on & on how amazing Trevor is, how attentive he is, how loving, how caring, patient & understanding. Like honestly what more could you ask for?
This book touches all the right places. Willa is a photographer who is basically use to doing everything on her own, doesn’t like to ask for help & is recovering from a traumatic breakup. She learns that she has a village behind her & doesn’t have to do anything alone anymore, she learns to lay down her armor & accept help from loved ones. She learns that not everyone is the same & you can be loved properly if you allow it.
Trevor himself deals with child abuse when he was younger but we see the growth with him throughout the book. I loved the communication between the two (of course we had a couple of hiccups before we got here but that’s ok they worked through it).
But I proud to say I’m finally Team Trevor 😭!
Quotes:
“You’re the furthest thing from a burden, Willa. You’re worth every single effort.” -Trevor
You’re the ocean that swept me up, molded me, gave me new purpose. It’s you, and it’s been you for so long, I can’t remember a time before you.” -Trevor
Always Will is a romance that takes two very different people and asks what happens when old ties spark into something more.
Willa Willis has built her life on her own terms. Her photography studio is her triumph, a symbol of independence and determination after years of being doubted by those closest to her. She is proud, guarded, and not easily swayed. Trevor Jones, a former Coast Guardsman, knows hardship too, yet meets it with lightness and forgiveness. Where Willa is control and order, Trevor is warmth and optimism.
When their paths cross on a weekend away with friends, the spark between them is undeniable. What begins as a fleeting reconnection turns into something far more serious when Willa discovers her carefully managed world is about to change. Two pink lines throw her independence into sharp relief and force both her and Trevor to face not only their past but also the possibility of a future together.
Layna James handles these familiar tropes with care. The opposites attract tension is strong, yet the story also allows for quieter moments that make the relationship feel authentic. Willa’s fierce independence never tips into arrogance, while Trevor’s hopefulness avoids becoming simplistic. Their struggles feel honest, and that is what makes their eventual closeness so rewarding.
For readers who enjoy romance with emotional depth, witty sparks, and the comfort of tried-and-true themes, Always Will is an engaging and heartfelt read. It is a reminder that love does not erase the past but can offer a way forward.
OMG I LOVED this book!!!! It’s accidental pregnancy which has been a favorite trope of mine for a while now!! Trevor has been into his friend’s sister for a while now, but Willa didn’t want anything to do with him for the longest time. Willa is independent and neurotypical, she loves her routines and she’s also been hurt in the past so she’s not looking for someone to crash into her life & make waves. An unforgettable one night stand changes everything when she ends up preggo with Trevor’s baby. He’s all in from the get go with baby and Willa. They live hours apart, but this man is willing to fly or drive to see her constantly. Trevor is everything good and perfect wrapped up in a big, sexy, dirty talking package!!! He’s the sunshine to Willa’s grumpy and I love their dynamic so much. Trevor will happily be at her beck and call, and she hates it 😂 I love the way their relationship progresses though. Having Trevor as a constant source of support and care and just being there-loving with no strings- allows Willa this space for growth she’s never had. I cried so many times yall. He’s just happily standing behind her giving her that little boost of confidence to be happy & live her life without a mask. And asking for nothing in return 😭😭😭😭 Willa is so brave and strong! Her ND tendencies are honestly super relatable to me!! I loved these two and I really need yall to read this book asap!!
Willa has known Trevor for years now. He's part of her sister's friend, and she's pretty sure he has a crush on her. Which is too bad for him because he grinds her gears just by gazing at her admiringly and smiling with those dimples she wants to get closer to...
Trevor gives SUCH golden retriever vibes that I was certain that Willa would reject his fine ass just for being happy 😭 (She certainly tried). Willa was forced to do things for herself, by herself for so long that she now prefers them that way. Unfortunately, she finds herself in a situation that Trevor REFUSES to let her take on alone.
Does she like that Trevor is not at all deterred by her aggressive hyperindependence? No. Does Trevor care that she wants to keep him, his help, and his care compartmentalized? Nope! He has had his eye on Willa for years, and while this situation isn't ideal, he's thrilled at the opportunity to play a role in Willa's life and potentially make his dreams come true.
Trevorrrrrrr! I have to apologize. I was unfamiliar with your game, good sir. Willa and Trevor talk AND play a great game. 10 out of 10, no notes! Truly a chef's kiss 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾
I kept holding myself, thinking @laynajameswrites was going to take me through an emotional wringer, but here I stand, happy to report that I have landed sweetly in the softest of places 🥹
If you're looking for spice, tenderness, community, and an overall great time, Always Will is the book for you!
Firstly, thank you to the author as well as Luna Literary for sending this e-arc.
I absolutely loved this book. I was instantly hooked and knew after the first couple pages it would be an amazing read.
The accidental pregnancy tropes is one of my favorites and this book executed it so well. Watching Willa develop from her stubborn and independent demeanor to softer and trusting Trevor was so beautiful. Her stubbornness was a defensive mechanism and after her unveiling her past and seeing the interactions with the people who hurt her, I understood her. I loved watching Trevor show up and be there for her.
Trevor was such an amazing guy. His backstory about his parents and watching them love him like no other was wholesome. Seeing the interactions between his family and Willa was so wonderful. I loved seeing them envelope her and welcome her.
I personally think this book isn’t just right person right time but definitely, “when something’s meant for you, it’ll always find a way”.
Willhema spent so much time turning Trevor away but he never forsake her. Instead he watched from a distance and loved her silently. Seeing that love blossom. He was patient with her and so attentive.
I absolutely adore this book and heavily recommend it. Not only was it beautifully written but I enjoyed every inch of it.
Thank you Luna Literary Management and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Trevor has been harboring a crush for years. Willa hasn’t been interested, finding him annoyingly perfect and too nice. She didn’t even think she was his type until a flirty night at a bar.
Their story was sweet. I loved learning more about them and reading them learn more about each other. Their communication becomes open and healthy and it was everything seeing Willa allow herself to fall and to be loved. They complement each other and were able to combine their lives smoothly.
I enjoy Willa’s independence and stubbornness and appreciated Trevor’s admiration and patience. Their relationship started with sexual chemistry, but they get to know each other deeper and work their insecurities and anxieties.
I also loved seeing the leads from the others books in this one. It felt natural and was nice seeing how their relationships have progressed.

Overall, I give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I loved Willa and Trevor and their dynamic. Though their relationship begins to deepen because of an accidental pregnancy, everything after was full of love and intention. I’m itching for more.
HAPPY ALWAYS WILL DAY (which is now a holiday I personally recognize from here on out)! Layna James hyped us up for Always Will across socials and ma’am I think you might have held back on us again…because WOW this story was so perfect for Willa and Trevor.
I love Layna’s narrative voice and the recognizability of her characters - if you meet them once, she is so consistent with them that you never feel like anyone is untrue to themselves to the extent that I’m easily able to imagine all of them as friends I could have and want in real life. Why not romantic interests? BRO. Because each couple is written so perfectly for each other and together that how dare I imagine I could come between!
Willa is my hero for her independence, grit, and how well she knows herself and her needs. Tre has so much more depth than anyone is giving him credit for, especially “Jim.” Their ensemble of friends just now they need to give each other a chance. Letting their guards down together just might be the best thing that ever happened for both of them. A sweet surprise teaches them more about themselves, their values, and their boundaries allowing the couple to pretty literally grow together. Did I love this story? Always Will. 💜
Please check your tropes & triggers and ENJOY! Thank you to the author, Layna James, and Luna Literary for the ARC!
thanks to Layna James/ Literary Management for the ARC of this book.
This story follows the FMC Willa & Trevor; I met both in book 2 of the series as side characters. Trevor has had a crush on Willa for a few years, but she would not give him the time of day. Willa was the grumpy one in this book but with good reason once you learn more about her. When she decides to let loose and have a little fun on her birthday, a few weeks later she finds out she is pregnant.
This was a true accidental pregnancy and not a secret baby. Everything that Trevor did after finding out about the pregnancy just gives green flags vibe. The FMC Willa has been through a lot in her life including being estranged from her parents and was forced to be independent at a young age. It is not easy for her to give up control and let someone in, but with time Trevor starts to make entry into her heart. It was beautiful to watch her let go and to see both of them journey to falling in love. I really love how relatable to couple were also in their everyday life and career.
Even though this book still touches on deep topics such as childhood trauma, abuse, mental health, therapy etc, it still felt like a cozy read and was so beautifully written.
If you love a true accidental pregnancy, no secret baby, no 3rdc act breakup, golden retriever MMC that will make you swoon definitely add this to the TBR
This was hands down my favorite book in the series so far! I absolutely fell in love with Willa and Trevor’s story.
Willa is so a strong and independent, and I loved seeing how her guarded nature slowly began to shift once she finally let Trevor into her life. Trevor was the perfect balance to her - a man shaped by hardship but determined to live with lightness, loyalty, and compassion. His persistence in breaking through her walls wasn’t just romantic, it was inspiring, and I loved how much care he took in proving she could rely on him.
I’m a big fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, so I already knew I was going to be hooked, but the way it was handled here was just beautiful. It never felt forced or cliché. Instead, it became such an authentic part of their journey - one that really highlighted Trevor’s loyalty and tenderness. He stood by Willa, defended her, and consistently showed her she could lean on him without fear.
Trevor’s unwavering support and Willa’s journey toward trust made every page feel both emotional and hopeful. Together, they built something so meaningful, and the path they took to get there felt real and deeply satisfying. This story had me smiling, tearing up, and rooting for them every step of the way.
I was grateful to receive an advanced copy of this book; all opinions are my own and are shared voluntarily.
