Award-winning and bestselling author and physician Jillian David quickly writes then slowly edits medical romance, paranormal romance, and romantic suspense books. She loves to use medical situations and characters to drive drama in her books. Her favorite cell is the platelet and her least-favorite organ is the pancreas. She fully believes that curse words, when appropriately deployed during surgery, are hemostatic. Which also explains why no book of hers will ever bleed out...
According to multiple starred reviews, Jillian's books cause sleep deprivation and a drop in productivity, as well as visceral responses from her vivid descriptions -- side effects which might qualify as a breach of her Hippocratic Oath to 'do no harm.'
Here's what readers are saying: - "You will not want to start this book right before bed like I did because you won’t want to go to sleep." - "...a highly original, paranormal, second chance, romantic suspense novel on steroids, and it kept me turning pages until dawn, and it gets 5 bleary-eyed stars from this reader." - "I started this incredible paranormal suspense filled love story and couldn't put it down. I stayed up the entire night reading it." - "Such an awesome read. As soon as I started it, I couldn't put it down. I have loved Tuli sine the first book in this series and have been waiting for his story and Lou, she is so lovely and they have been friends forever could it be time for them to find their HEA.
Yukon Valley Fire Chief Tulimak Sampson is one of the best in this small town, caring and doing all he can on social media as an influencer to build Yukon Valley, one thing he wants is love and a family and there is only one girl for him his best friend forever Lou Wright but building up the courage to ask her out is not easy but it is time now and he is determined to do so.
Lou Wright loves her home town her family and her job as a medic with the ambulance but she is a quiet person and stays away from social media and she has not long had a bad break up with her ex, her cousin Hunter has moved back to town and seems to be pushy and then there is Tuli her best friend the one she has always wished for but when she receives devastating news she does not want to stop him from the dreams he has always had but chemistry is hard to ignore.
There is a lot going on in the town at the moment with the mineral rights and it seems that although some of the towns matchmakers are keen on pushing Lou and Tuli together there is also a spanner in the works to keep them apart, will love prevail will they find their HEA and both get the wishes they have always wanted?
I loved this one and the series and I can highly recommend, it wonderful characters and a fabulous setting.
My thanks to Tule Publishing for my digital copy to read and review.
I'm excited and nervous to have this book out into the world and in readers' hands. If you are new to my writing, my books are set in challenging rural environments, and showcase medical characters who risk it all to save lives, all while lugging serious baggage to work through if they’re going to find love.
Five Alarm Love is no exception and centers around a love for the ages. Fire chief Tuli Sampson and local EMT Louise Wright have known each other since they were children. Their love has quietly smoldered in the background, but right as it’s about to catch –
They get new information that will change their future forever.
Can a sexy and secretly-damaged fire chief convince a shy EMT who is dealing with life-altering news that their steadfast friendship can turn like the golden poplar leaves into a forever love?

What a heartwarming friends to more romance! This story has it all from friendships, family and romance to suspense, mystery and betrayal. It's beautifully written with an entertaining and interesting storyline with an amazing mix of characters. This book has all the feels. You'll be drawn in from the first page and won't be able to put it down. A great read and I highly recommend the series.
If this book taught me anything, it’s that Tulimak Sampson is not just a green flag - he is an ENTIRE PROTECTED NATIONAL FOREST! A sacred ecosystem. A biodiverse paradise of kindness, loyalty, and emotionally competent man energy!
Tuli has been in love with Lou ever since... well, he can't recall. But it's been a lot of time. He dreams of making it big and showing her she can bet on him for the long run. Lou, on the other hand, has had a rough time with her previous relationship, and Tuli's obsession with social media doesn't help her relax when it comes to her privacy. With others circling around Lou, and Yukon Valley in general, determined to make Tuli's life hell, can the hunky fireman chief prove to her they make the perfect duo? Or will those working against him manage to pull the rug out from under his feet for good?
First of all, as you can already tell, I swooned for Tuli so hard - the kind of swooning I had yet to do for a male in this series! The flashbacks from when they were in school? OMG, elementary-school Tuli was a freaking adorable cutie! Those little dreams for his future? The pure-hearted sincerity?? I just wanted to scoop that child up, tuck him in my coat pocket, and guard him from the world forever. And as I said earlier, greenest of flags. Actually, no - fuck flags. The man was a whole forest by himself. A lush, thriving, oxygen-producing miracle of a human being.
But good LORD does he forgive way too easily. Because the way Lou’s family treated him?
Could not - would not - be me. I hold grudges like dragons hoard gold, and they’d get NONE of that forgiveness until the sun burns out. Tuli, babe, I love you, but raise the bar for these people.
Now, Lou. Oh, Lou.... I loved her in the first two books - witty, tough, independent. But here? Aside from deeply resonating with her desperate need for privacy, she just… wasn’t it for me. She spent half the book looking for excuses to push Tuli away, and the other half sabotaged by her obnoxious father, who has the emotional warmth of a damp dishrag.
Honestly? Somebody let Grandma Ruth loose on that man. She’d straighten him out for sure.
Now, allow me to scream about my FAVORITE character in the whole series: Bruce.
THE king. The hype man. The comedic relief. The emotional support bestie. THE TRUE MATCHMAKER OF YUKON VALLEY! Look at him supporting our sweet Tuli! And being a riot to boot! Protect him at all costs!
As for the romance and action? Smooth blend. Lou’s hot mess energy + Tuli’s golden retriever loyalty + social danger = a very satisfying ride. Tense moments mixed with emotional reveals - classic Jillian David art right here, and I couldn't be happier.
The only reason I gave it four stars is because while I’m obsessed with Tuli, Lou tested my patience JUST enough to keep this from being a full five - but still? An absolutely delightful, drama-laced, heart-tugging finale for this series. Wonderful work, as always!
***I was given an ARC by the writer in exchange for an honest review. The opinion stated in this review is solely mine, and no compensation was given or taken to alter it.***
I love reading stories set in Alaska and stories with characters that work as first responders, so I was very pleased to have the chance to read this book. Having worked in that field myself, I appreciate and sympathize with the realistic experiences that Tuli and Lou have in their small town. I admire the way Ms. David has written a story full of personal emotion and heartbreak surrounding these two characters, while also presenting a larger picture that is very up-to-date concerning issues like internet privacy and land use rights. In her online bio, one reader is quoted as saying that Ms. David's books can be described as "Grey's Anatomy meets Northern Exposure". Not just because the medical scenes are convincing and accurate, but because the characters and events are so small town Alaska in all the best ways. Lou and Tuli have feelings for each other, but they each have plenty of emotional baggage to work out, and Ms. David brings the reader to all the drama, heartbreak and resolution. This is another wonderful story in this terrific series.
I was given an ARC and volunteered to write a review.
Lou and Tuli have known each other for years, they're great friends, he used to visit when things were bad at home. He's loved her for a long time but she just has friendly feelings for him. Her ex put his side of the breakup all over social media, she was always a very private person but this made her become more so. Tuli uses social media in a good way, he supports the town, showing festivals etc to persuade tourists to visit. The council are discussing ways to mine the minerals (see Paging Dr. Breakup) when Hunter, Lou's cousin, comes back home. Working with Tuli as a probationary firefighter. He seems to be trying to go out with Lou, he's smarmy!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Five Alarm Love (The Yukon Valley, Alaska #3) by Jillian David
Another great addition to Jillian David’s brilliant Yukon Valley series!
This book is written with skill and heart, featuring wonderful, well-developed characters. Yukon Valley fire chief Tuli Sampson has long harbored feelings for Louise Wright, a dedicated medic—who just happens to feel the same way about him. Their simmering connection, set against the rugged beauty of Alaska, makes for a compelling romance.
The story pulled me in from the very first page and kept me engaged right through to the end. I’m already looking forward to the next installment in this series!
Great addition to this series. I have been waiting for Tuli’s story. I have to say that for me this has been my favorite. Both Tuli and Louise grew up together and they are good friends. They both have things they are dealing with. Tuli is a more outspoken person while Louise is shy. Things happen and Tuli decides that perhaps he needs to make his move on Louise. I loved their story. It was entertaining and it will make you laugh. I am looking forward to reading more by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Five Alarm Love by Jillian David is my favorite of the Yukon Valley, Alaska Hospital. Book three has Yukon Valley Fire Chief Tuli Sampson as a true community protector as well as Louise Wright, his childhood close friend. This unrequited love story has characters who have issues that is a part of their lives. Then there are community issues with mineral rights for rural areas.
Characters that you will love, issues that are relevant at a town level and at a personal level told in a compelling story that keeps you reading. One great first responders story taking place in Yukon Valley.
Five Alarm Love is book 3 in the Yukon Valley, Alaska Hospital series by Jillian David 4.5 stars
Tiki, the Yukon Valley, fire chief, and tourist influencer has always had a soft spot for Louise, the town medic and his childhood best friend. We have watched the chemistry between them in the prior books, but will these two find their HEA after years of longing…only time will tell…
I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is book 3 in the Yukon Valley Alaska Hospital series. I am really enjoying this series and this story is about the Yukon Valley, fire chief Tuli Sampson and EMT Louise Wright. Lou and Tuli have known each other since they were children. Tuli has loved Lou for a long time and Lou has the same feelings for him. In the other books, you can see the lead up to this one. That being said, this can be read as a standalone. But I’m so glad that Tuli and Lou are getting their story. I love watching their relationship change from friends to lovers. One of my favorite tropes. This book is a very well written story with very strong characters. And I cannot wait for the next installment.
I received this ARC in return for my honest review.
Another welcome addition to the Yukon Valley series. i liked this book because the characters are dealing with issues from the past that are affecting their current relationships. they are best friends who want to love each other but struggle with feeling inadequate. there is a HEA that left me with a satisfied sigh.
A nice addition to the Yukon Valley series. Tuli and Louise are friends, they grew up together and for Tuli, it has never been the right time to make his move, as he has had feelings for her for years. The both have some baggage but once these two get together, they’re slow. Urn romance runs into a few roadblocks.
This was a great friends to lovers read! Lou and Tuli were total opposites and somehow had been friends since elementary school. She was shy and reserved, and Tuli was very outgoing. They were both very protective of her brother, Gordy, who stole my heart. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and deal with some tough topics such as genetic abnormalities and how that can affect having a baby. There is an open door sceif thats an issue, beware. It's easy to pass over though. Overall this was a great book!
I won this in a giveaway. this was so sweet. I haven't read the first two books in the series so I was a little apprehensive about reading this as a stand alone. I will definitely be going back and reading the first two! loved their story it was so sweet
Another great entry in the Yukon Valley Alaska series.
I love these books and the community they're set in. Five Alarm Love tells the story of Tuli, one of my favorite characters from the earlier books, and Lou.
My very favorite part was Gordy, Lou's brother. I have a brother with similar challenges and I loved seeing how much Lou loved her brother. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great friends to romance book! I didn’t even realize it was part of a series! Reads great as a standalone but definitely interested in the rest of them now!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book for an honest opinion.
Five Alarm Love by Jillian David I might have enjoyed past books I've read of her's more but book three in the Yukon Valley, Alaska series is still a very well written book. Would probably give it a 3 1/2 rating maybe a little more. Enjoyed reading more about past characters in past book and maybe some new ones. I look forward to reading more by author.
Really loved the themes of this book, overcoming obstacles, life never turning out how we plan but learning to love it anyway. A really hopeful amazing read.
This is my favorite in the Yukon Alaska series. Finally Tuli is getting his chance at romance. OF course nothing is easy with his recent injury but things are looking up until Hunter comes to town. Tuli is ready to ask Lou to date him and her cousin Hunter comes to towns seemingly set to ruin his life. Their is intrigue due to the mining rights the tow1n is still considering, and with Tuli and Lou's health. Really enjoyed this series and this book especially
Welcome back to Yukon Valley, a small town in the Alaskan interior. It’s a place filled with kind and caring people, people who are always ready to lend a hand to their neighbors. It’s also a place where there have recently been some odd happenings that have endangered some of the residents.
In Five Alarm Love, EMT Louise (Lou) Wright, is getting over the heartache of breaking up with her former boyfriend. Not only that, but trying to regain her confidence after he betrayed her and shared personal details about their relationship, many untrue, with anyone who would listen. It shook her up and has made it hard for her to trust anyone.
Tulimark Sampson, is accomplished in many ways. He’s the town’s fire chief, he mans the deli counter at the Three Bears grocery/convenience store, and he’s a successful social media influencer who touts the wonders of interior Alaska, helping the area to gain tourist attention. Tuli, however, has some confidence issues of his own, based on a difficult early childhood with parents who abused drugs and alcohol. Raised by his Grandma Ruth, a village Elder, he’s grown into an intelligent and considerate man, but the pain of his youth still haunts him. He doesn’t think he’s deserving of getting the thing he wants most, his childhood friend Louise. He’s also still suffering the effects of the snow machine (snowmobile) accident he had last spring. It caused serious damage to his leg, but at least he didn’t lose it.
Tuli and Lou are trying to figure out exactly what they are to each other. Friends, for certain, but is there more there? They were working through things and coming to realize just what they mean to each other when Lou’s cousin, Hunter, shows up and starts to throw proverbial wrench’s into their relationship. Hunter’s up to more than just getting in the way, but exactly what it is remains a mystery.
Lou has an older brother, Gordy, who suffers from a genetic syndrome that impacts his health and prevents him from speaking. Gordy is good-natured and everyone in town dotes on him. Lou, concerned about any future children she might have inheriting the same syndrome, has sent off her DNA for testing. She doesn’t plan to share the results with anyone other than her parents, but she’s concerned about the impact the results might have on her future. (I Googled the syndrome that the book specifies that Gordy has. I couldn’t find a condition that matched Gordy’s by that name; although, there is another syndrome by that name that’s completely different. There are enough actual medical conditions, that I felt that the author could have used a real one, instead of making one up. This was a bit disappointing.)
There’s a lot more to this book than just romance. There’s mystery, discrimination, and betrayal. There’s friendship, family, and traditions. Most of all, there’s learning to trust when so much around you that urges you to doubt. And highly important, there’s a community that stands up for and supports each other.
This is the third book in the Yukon Valley, Alaska series, and it appears that it’s meant to end the series. That’s sad, and I’ll miss the wonderful characters, the harsh but beautiful setting, and especially the festivals. This book could be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading the series in order to better understand the relationships and setting.
I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher, Tule. I thank all involved for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Five Alarm Love is the third book in Jillian David’s terrific series, Yukon Valley Alaska. This is a wonderful romance between childhood best friends Louise Wright and Tuli Sampson. Louise is an EMT and Tuli is the fire chief and local social media star. She had been in a serious relationship but that ended with her ex embarrassing her in public. She is a shy person and doesn’t like her business to be shown to others. Tuli respects her feelings and keeps his ever present camera recorder away from her. He had been injured and his leg is still not functioning properly but has been trying to hide it so he can do his job as fire chief.
As the book opens, Lou receives devastating news. She had taken a genetic test awhile back when she was still in her prior relationship. Her brother is special needs and she wanted to see if she would pass this condition on to her children. It was her dream to have children. In fact, back in school days she and Tuli discussed having a family together. The results showed she had the gene so she cannot in good conscience have children. She realizes she has romantic feelings for Tuli that she now has to push aside. She knows because of his history that having his own family is very important to him.
Tuli recognizes that his feelings for Lou had changed from friendship to something much stronger. He is worried that he’s not good enough for her because of his bad leg and his family background. Lou’s cousin Hunter is training with him for the fire department. So when the alarm goes off it’s the two of them that work together. Hunter gets nasty and notices Tuli struggling to get the victims to safety. He lets Tuli know he plans to take his job and hints he has other plans to make him lots of money due to the mine next to their town. Hunter tries to get in good with Lou and her dad because he’s an elder working with the mine issues. He sets out to sabotage Tuli through his online work as well. Lou and Tuli finally share their feelings for the other and decide to act on it in private. Initially both are keeping it secret about their own issues. Once all is shared, can the couple turn their relationship into a lifelong one?
This is a beautiful love story where best friends turn their friendship into a loving relationship. Tuli and Louise both have tragedy in their pasts but both have turned it around and come out the better for it. I enjoyed this book so much. It is well written, the characters are genuine and so likable and the people from the prior books are also included in the story. I’ve never been to Alaska but Jillian paints a clear picture of what life is like for the reader to see. This is another five star book and a fantastic addition to this series.
I was fortunate to receive this ARC from Tule Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
I didn’t quite understand the title of Five Alarm Love but I imagine it has something to do with the main protagonists, EMT Louise Wright and fire chief Tulimak Sampson. This is the third book in the series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. It’s set in a small Yukon Valley town in Alaska, which is a drawcard for me. There’s the remote nature of the location, its beauty and the inherent dangers of living in such a place, bears being at the top of the list. Tuli and Lou are great characters. Both are dedicated to their work, both have been friends for a long time and both are trying to better themselves, Lou through her studies to become a paramedic and Tuli through his secondary occupation as a social media influencer. Though there is definitely a spark of romantic attraction between them early in the story, their romantic journey is not an easy one. Lou has just discovered that while she is free of symptoms, she has the same disease as her brother Gordy, a disease that means he can’t speak without the use of a communication tablet and is laregely wheelchair-bound. There is a secondary storyline involving Lou’s smarmy cousin Hunter, who has been employed as a fire fighter but is also ingratiating himself with Lou’s father in a bid to get the local Athabascan community elders to take him on to manage a gold mine they’re considering establishing. I know I wasn’t meant to like Hunter, and I didn’t, but I felt that his vileness was a bit overdone. While I enjoyed this book and cheered for Lou and Tuli when they finally got their happy-ever-after, I was left feeling a little tepid as I finished reading.
This book is so good. If you are looking for a great love story look no further--Five Alarm Love is the book for you. I loved reading Tuli and Lou's story and I know you will too. Let us know what you think.
This story is based in Alaska in the Yukon Valley. We have Fire Chief Tuli Sampson and Paramedic Louise Wright finally admitting their love for each other, For years starting in grade school these two have really liked each other and been best friends for all of that time. They used to get the kids and all play house under the monkey bars. And in all of this playing they had lots of kids. And then life steps in and blows that dream. Louise has a brother that has a terrible genetic disease, he can barely walk, talks through the help of a computer and is not expected to live past 30. She was just recently tested to see if she has this disease or is a carrier. Turns out she is a carrier so any babies that she could have might have the disease and she is not willing to take that chance. She knows how much Tuli has always wanted kids and no matter how much she loves him they can not be a couple. She can not deprive him of his babies. He will be a fantastic father one day.
When Tuli learns of her secret he is not bothered by it other then being worried about Lou. There are other ways of having babies, they can adopt, become foster parents or just be happy having each other. Will he ever talk Lou into taking a chance on them? He knows they could be very happy together.
Five Alarm Love by Jillian David Love this series because I've read it from the beginning and can follow along with updates of the mineral rights, others who want to buy up the whole town, the people that work there and live there. Yukon Valley we find Lou and EMT and her partner Mav who also works at the deli. He's the most knowledgeable resident about all the rumors. Story also follows Tuli. You and Tuli have grown up since grade school and they used to play house with the kids on the playground. He'd be the father and Lou would be the mom. Their dream was they'd marry and raise a family together soem day. Adult situations and Tuli had taken a pic of Lou sleeping, just a head shot. At the fire separtment he left his phone while he used the bathroom and another who was out to get his job took the phone and posted the pic on social media. It all gets back to Lou and she drops him being her boyfriend. Will they ever get back together now that they understand one another. She'd had a heart to heart about her inferitility issues and he was on board. Great story about a native American and the reasons why they fought for their land. Received this review copy from the publisher and Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.
Five Alarm Love is the third title in the Yukon Valley, Alaska Hospital series, and brings us Tuli’s and Louise’s slow-burn romance.
Although this was my first encounter with the author’s work and this series, I’ll definitely be back for more. I hadn’t read the earlier books, yet I didn’t feel the least bit lost, as any of the details that I truly needed to know were found in either the dialogue or the narrative.
Tuli and Lou have been friends forever, it seems. And while Tuli has been holding back any stronger feelings because of their friendship, Louise is just beginning to see him through different eyes. Both have issues from their pasts that affect how they handle relationships, but her ex’s actions were unnecessarily cruel given how private she is. They might have held on to only that friendship if someone hadn’t come sniffing around, someone who most definitely wasn’t worthy of Louise.
Watching Tuli deal with the past, begin to show his true feelings for Louise was a beautiful, emotional journey. Sometimes, friendship and a forever love pair up perfectly. I understood Lou’s hesitation in trusting any man with her heart again, but Tuli already had proven his love for her in so many unspoken ways. I had such a good time with Five Alarm Love; it’s well-written, emotional, with a few complications tossed in to rile things up. If you love a friends-to-lovers romance with all the feels you could possibly long for, a realist couple that you’ll root for to find their happily ever after, then this one is perfect for you.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
“Five Alarm Love” has all the feels with a surprising plot twist at the end. The story follows EMT Louise Wright as she navigates her love life and career within the well-meaning community of Yukon Valley, Alaska. Lou has lived through heartbreak and needs some convincing to get back in the dating pool, and her childhood friend, Tuli Sampson, wants to be her guy. He has loved her for years and pulls out all the stops to get her attention. However, when their friendship starts to turn into something more—difficult relatives, misunderstandings, and a heartbreaking secret tear them apart. This is a slow-burn romance from sweet friendship to steamy lovers. I've read all three books in this series and loved seeing familiar faces return, but this book was my favorite, and I can guarantee the sweet relationship Lou shares with her disabled older brother will squeeze your heart in all the right places. Get your copy now!
I love being back in the Yukon Valley in Alaska - such a different world to small-town Queensland in Australia - I gobble up all the details about this different life. Fire chief Tuli Sampson is trying to shoot his shot with local EMT Louise Wright. They grew up together, but it's never been the right time for them. Tuli has a lot of baggage - they both do. He's a big personality in the town, running their social media, working in the general store and he's the fire chief. He's also hiding a significant leg injury which makes it difficult for him to do his job properly. Lou also has her own issues, after a failed engagement and some news looming that impacts on her fertility.
Young buck Hunter Wright returns to town, spouting about family and opportunity, and while he is all over Lou, his behaviour makes Tuli declare himself. So many obstacles, but one of the biggest is that Lou is shy and intensely quiet, and she's having nothing to do with the social media side of Tuli's job. Tuli's extroversion gets him into trouble and Lou's dad is judgy about his prospects. SO good! There's an external threat to their lives in the Yukon Valley and this threads through all three novels in the series.
Both Lou and Tuli belong to the native tribal communities and there's plenty of detail about aspects of their culture - fascinating!
I adore both Lou and Tuli, so much pining and chemistry for two damaged people who need to find the courage to claim each other. Recommended - along with books 1 and 2 in the series!
Thank you Jillian David for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
