Ethan Armstrong was both thrilled and worried as his daughter, Allie, embarked on her college journey in Arizona, 2,000 miles from their Michigan home. As Ethan and his son made plans to join his wife, Tess, and daughter in the Grand Canyon State, a devastating EMP attack on the United States realized his greatest fear. The disaster occurred on the very day the two women flew to Arizona to settle Allie into her dorm.
Against All Odds, Ethan and Dustin set off on a daring cross-country journey to rescue the other half of their family. Meanwhile, his wife and daughter are forced to navigate the ensuing chaos on campus, surrounded by thousands of stranded parents and students.
As communication fails and resources dwindle, society starts to crumble, and the Armstrongs’ fight for survival on opposite ends of the country begins.
***This book has been re-edited and is a new release for Raventhorne Books. It was previously published for a short period by the author.
Amazing trip to rescue family and great characters! The plot is well crafted and surprising too. Hope there is a follow up for both the ranch and the family.
One of the primary things I look for in a book is how does the conversation flow? Are the sentences like what I hear in regular conversation so as a reader I can relate to the characters? This book helped me relate to characters easier when the situations and the way they handled them was different than I have chosen. It helped to have their reasonimg explained so I was then challenged to reexamine my thinking.
I was surprised by how the author presented disagreements with neighbors that disagreed when all needed to work together for common good. A situation that was new to me was written about with the logic and made me realize the danger my way would have created if I had done things my way. I am an avid reader of all types of books many times a book in a day or two so I appreciate slightly different situations and different ways to present it so I could think differently.
I liked the way the leaders in the book described new options for a situation when SHTF to be prepared. Some new additions to my plans.
I’ve read a lot of books about the end of the world and this one has got to be one of the worst. It lacks detail, depth, and character development. It mentions illegal immigrants an odd amount, makes the women appear to be dumb and in need of a man, mentions Native American characters in a way that seems like a white man wrote it. I would not recommend.
Enjoyed! Really liked the real people doing what's necessary to survive. The story line is sadly close to "what could be real". Praying real humans don't come to this.
A new book in a new series introduces strong characters who do their best to do what is right. It isn’t always easy, tough choices have to be made. Looking forward to the next installment.
Not a bad start to an EMP survival thriller series, but is a bit on the discriminatory towards immigrants for my tastes, but, redeems itself by the respectful treatment of Navajo Native Americans. I'll continue the series, for what its worth..
