Well, I might like this better than the anime. And the anime was pretty funny to start with, so that’s some sharp praise indeed. Yes, it’s time for a hapless ninja and an all-business assassin/student to cohabitate and spill a little blood.
What I really liked here is that I felt the portrayal of Konoha was really flat, deliberately, in the anime, but here it has just an iota more life to it. Her deadpan delivery was really well done, and befit her role as assassin, but there’s just a bit more to it here that I appreciate.
Satoko remains as clueless as ever and that hasn’t really changed. She is as likely to kill herself as she is anybody else and the amount of culture shock she has is hilarious, doubly so since nobody else from her village appears to have such issues.
Konoha is super skilled, but messy, and Satoko is hapless, but can make bodies disappear. And since Satoko is being pursued by her former village, well, there are a ton of bodies to go around.
If you don’t take your comedy black, probably stay away from this one. Murder is on the menu in merciless fashion and the mangaka goes out of their way to make each death as hilariously tragic as possible.
This is the sort of series that comes with a bonus flashback chapter where all the ninja girls who died in the previous 160-odd pages get together and gush over how great their lives are and what good friends they are.
All these characters are hilarious on their own and bounce off one another ridiculously well. Everybody is more than happy to say secret information with little to no provocation and trust is sacrificed immediately for a good joke.
Needless to say, this is absolutely up my street and the successful gag ratio is off the charts. If I wasn’t laughing at something I was at least chuckling and this is all material I had seen before. That’s a strong endorsement.
4 stars - I mean, it has no emotional depth, but it’s a blast of comedy gold here, so, who cares? This is a standard odd couple-style pairing done very, very well.

This was more yuri-coded than I thought it’d be. It was also surprisingly uninteresting, tbh. I understood that it was a slice-of-life comedy manga, but I didn’t find the humour all that funny - and for a manga with both a ninja and an assassin in it, it’s kinda plain. It’s mostly just the assassin lady killing different enemy ninjas every chapter, which bored me after like the first time it happened. The ninja / civilian couple were a bit fun I guess, but by the end of the volume it was too little, too late imo.
