You don’t know when…
You don’t get to choose if…
When it’s time to join…you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny.

But I do.

And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.

The 27 Club is about fear of the unknown, life, death, destiny and fate. It's about control and realising that some things in life are beyond our personal control.

If you've read the blurb you'll know that the 27 club is a unique place and one that may seem illogical to our reality but my interest was piqued, it's the very thing that attracted me to this story. I was keen to discover how it would unfold and develop, how would the author make me believe the premise? I was intrigued before I even started and happily the intrigue element of the story continued throughout creating an air of mystery surrounding the destiny of Zoey's family and their fate.

This story kicks off with Zoey's brother celebrating his 27th birthday, thereby making him eligible for The 27 Club and adding a poignancy to the prose from the very beginning.

Nate, the hero and Zoey's brother's best friend, is intense, handsome, kind, generous and likes to be in control. Always.

Zoey Flowers is a girl on a mission of discovery. She's confident but enslaved by thoughts of her destiny.

They both have fear to deal with, a fear that's unique to them on an individual basis. I love the way the hero and heroine are introduced to each other in the text. They have a wonderful chemistry together but believe they can never have more than a holiday romance, a sex only arrangement. In reality, will this be enough for either of them?

The 27 Club is deliciously hot. Kim Karr writes the heady feels of sex mixed with meaningful all-consuming emotions so beautifully. I absolutely adored all the times the protagonists are intimate, just lovely...

The premise of the story is the driving force for the heroine throughout, in terms of her actions and her thoughts. It controls her behaviour... Gives a darkness to her inner thoughts. My personal musings about the story as I was reading were I found it very interesting.

Zoey makes discoveries throughout, I wish some of them had been further explored within the prose because I believe that may have increased my book love for the story as whole. Equally some of the discoveries did not fit perfectly, for me,

I was really torn on my rating. In some respects I really, really enjoyed this book and certainly this authors writing totally appeals to me, but I feel the main story arc didn't work for me as much as I'd hoped, even though I love the ideology behind it. I couldn't completely invest myself in the fact that someone would be driven by the particular fear that the heroine had. But equally there are so many positives to this story.

Overall, The 27 Club was an interesting read for me and I enjoyed the ride. It took me longer than usual, it was a slow build and quite detailed. The premise is different and one I'm still thinking about and the writing of this author is so engaging, sexy and beautifully erotic. I think readers who love to find a story that's different from the rest, especially fans of Kim Karr, will LOVE it.

**Note: This is a STANDALONE told mainly from the perspective of the heroine

2 STARS! ★★

You know one of those occasions that you caught onto a good blurb and you just have to read it no matter what? This is definitely one of those instances but sadly this read wasn't what I expected it to be at all. Let me just put it out there that this isn't a PNR read despite what the blurb may seem to suggest. It does touch on the subject of belief in destiny/fate and somewhere along the lines of a family curse but that was pretty much all there is to it.

The 27 Club isn't your usual club, it's one that Zoey Flowers believed that her family is bestowed with a death curse that they all die at the unimaginable age of 27. Her brother, Zach recently succumbed to this deadly fate and now she believes that death is knocking down on her door very soon. Having to face the death of her brother, she flies to his place in Miami where she meets Zach's best friend, Nate and what she comes to learn about her brother's life isn't all it's made up to be.

I'll hand it to the author that the premise is refreshing for me and was how it caught my attention in the first place. The underlying message of living life to its fullest is something I appreciated but what absolutely didn't work for me is the execution of it all.

For starters, these characters are supposedly 27 but Zoey's lack of maturity was glaringly obvious that if it wasn't for the title of the book, I could have easily passed her off as a tween in her early twenties. I really struggled to connect with her especially when it kept harping on her constant fear of death and her continuous need to break into tears and running headfirst into Nate's arms. It was hard to shake off that Zoey came off needy of his protection and it started to look more like a brotherly connection than a sexual one at times.

Nate's character was a little better for me but their instant connection came off a little manufactured like a typical case of right place, right timing. I can understand that their no-strings attached relationship is running on a 'carpe diem' setting but at times, their petty arguments and misunderstandings came off unnecessary and honestly, a little frustrating. Again, this brings me back to my point of how I find these characters acting unlike their age.

Now the plot itself really had some great potential. There was an introduction of pivotal characters that shed some light on Zach's life prior to his passing but I wished it could have been explored more on which could have gave the read that extra depth apart from the romance factor. Those were the scenes that had me glued to the read but once it passed, I just wasn't as invested anymore.

Overall The 27 Club had a great premise but the execution just absolutely missed the mark for me. I'll give it 1 star for the plot and another 1 for the rather steamy scenes but sadly, that's as far as I can give. I've heard praises for this author's other works, so I'm still holding out my judgement and will give her books another shot in the future. Perhaps this one just wasn't my cuppa but it could very well worked for many others :)

The 27 Club is a standalone adult contemporary romance read.

I will start by saying this isn’t what I expected at all, it was so much more. After watching the trailer for the book I couldn’t wait to jump in.. The 27 Club is about love, loss, destiny and living.

The story begins with us meeting Zach, he has just turned 27 and knows his time is near. That seems so odd, but Zach just knows it’s his destiny to die at 27. He has a lot of evidence in his family to support his theory, but he decides to not let fear run his life and live life to the fullest. Unfortunately, Zach was right and he dies at the young age of 27.

That’s how we meet Zoey, Zach’s sister. She has come to Miami to resolve everything surrounding her brother’s death and maybe get some much needed closure for herself since she is now 27. Zoey quickly meets Nate, Zach’s friend, and they develop a connection. I don’t want to spoil the story because I do believe the less you know the better.

I love when a story unfolds while reading and I am able to experience all the twists, turns and surprises. I love when I can be surprised by things and Kim Karr definitely surprised me and left me guessing. I enjoyed all the characters. I loved how Zoey was able to channel her strength. I loved Nate, he was exactly what Zoey needed and I enjoyed his charming, refreshing personality.

More than that was the message I took away from the story. Now the take away will be different for everyone, but for me it was about living life. In this case it is fear of untimely death, but if we all look at our own lives we can see that we rarely LIVE everyday. While this book broke my heart at times in the end I enjoyed the message, I loved the romance aspect, and enjoyed how it just felt whole.

I met Kim Karr by pure coincidence; Real and Connected debuted in 2013 around the same time, and we both casually picked up the other's books and enjoyed them and we've been friends ever since. I just LOVE getting to read her books before release! This one is soooo well written, you guys.

This is the story of a woman who thinks she's going to die and for the first time ever, wants to live her life. It focuses on her discovering the value in life and finding toe-curling love in the process. It's sexy and super emotional, with honest characters who took me into a world that I've never been in before. I hope you all love this like I did! It's truly unique and it touched my heart. :)

Unfortunately I was not feeling this book AT all. I was under the impression there was club involved and maybe some mystery, but it was completely different to what I thought it would be.

I would describe this as a brothers best friend to lovers story. Quite sweet, and a bit depressing.

4 Welcome to the CLUB Stars

I’m a major Kim Karr fan. I’ve read all of her books in the Connection series so when I found out she wrote a standalone, complete outside of the Connection series, well I was all over that.

I’m also starting to love suspenseful novels. There’s something about being kept on my toes and trying to figure out what’s going on that just makes me devour books like mad.

Zoey’s family is cursed. A lot of people in her family have died at the age of 27. She lives her life very cautiously and questions everything she does. Zoey’s brother dies at the age of 27 and it has made Zoey kind of reevaluate her life. Especially now, as she just turned 27.

I get Zoey and I get her fears. A lot of people in her family have died and it would make me freak out too. We don’t get a lot of detail on how Zoey deals with this, but we do get a lot of internal dialogue on her feelings about her brother’s death.

She visits where her brother lives and tries to get some closure. Except when she shows up at his house, it’s not really her brother’s house, but his friend, Nate.

I love Nate. I found him carefree, loyal and the kind of guy you want to be with and friends with. I also liked that Nate and Zoey’s brother were really good friends and we got a tiny bit of back story with that. Nate offers his place for Zoey to stay so she sorts through her brother’s things.

I thought the dynamic between Zoey and Nate, a little insta-lust for me, just at first. I wanted a little more tension. Zoey is pretty upset with her brother’s death and Nate is really drawn towards Zoey, so of course clothes start flying off.

What I enjoy most about the book is the whole mystery element to it. It’s not heavy in the suspense, but there’s a touch that keeps me interested. Zoey’s brother isn’t who he seems and she tries to piece together how his life was like (away from her).

I wanted more of this. I wanted more of Zoey going from clue to clue and figuring out what the sketches meant and what really happened when he died.

The beginning is a bit slow at first and the relationship between Zoey and Nate is sweet, but turns saucy real quickly. I am not sure if it’s justified, but it wouldn’t be a Kim Karr book if there wasn’t steamy elements. I did enjoy that it wasn’t overly erotic.

Overall, it’s different from the connections series, but still has some of the elements I enjoy from a Kim Karr book.

This book was so beautiful and touching.
I'm surprised how well can Kim Karr to convey grief and sadness in that respect. You feel it yourself. Although this character (Zach) who has ded is not familiar to us. At the beginning of the book Zach description was minimal.
“They say the dead don’t speak. They say the dead will never leave you. They say a lot of things about the dead. What they don’t tell you is what you’re supposed to do when they weren’t who you thought they were.”

Zoey and Nate had amazing chemistry. Nate has promised to Zach that he does not look at Zoey never more than friend's sister. But Zoey has other thoughts. So this attraction that they have, it's hard to look past. And in addition there is destiny.
"Destiny—that hidden power that controls fate. Even though it’s a path I don’t want to be on, I’m not certain I can stray from it.
It owns me—I don’t own it."

Sweet end

DESTINY. noun des·ti·ny \ˈdes-tə-nē\
: what happens in the future : the things that someone or something will experience in the future
: a power that is believed to control what happens in the future

Do you believe in DESTINY? FATE? Some believe in destiny, some believe in fate, but I believe in creating your own happiness and living life the way you want. If we are looking at the big picture, we are all destined to die since it’s part of the circle of life. But it’s what we do in between in life that truly matters. We create our destiny and our fate. So in Kim Karr’s newest release, The 27 Club be prepared to have your emotions tugged and surrender yourself that life is about creating your own happiness. Life is worth living, exploring and appreciating the beauty that surrounds us. Boundaries will be pushed. Ideas will inspire. And love will tug all the emotions.

#27th

When I first read the blurb, I was so intrigued and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book because it was written by Kim Karr, an author who is on my one-click list. And Kim Karr did not disappoint me. Like always, her writing was intoxicating and captivating. What I love about this book was that Ms. Karr surprised me with this book because it was something I didn’t expect. As a reader, I love when an author can completely surprise in you in a good unexpected way.

I honestly think this book is one of those books that you must read going in blind. Expect the unexpected because the writing and storytelling will have you emotionally invested with the characters. Heartstrings and emotions will be pulled. Romance and steam will have you encaptured with the beautifully erotic writing but at the same time Ms. Karr will have you frustrated with several of the hot and cold parts of the book.

The 27 Club was one of the books that delivered a powerful message of life, love, and living. So do I believe that everyone has an “end date?” Well the answer is who knows but that doesn’t mean it should define you and stop you from living. The beauty of this book is the message we create our own destiny, fate, or whatever you like to call it. Who is to stop us from living? Only you have the power to give up on life so if you truly want to be happy...create your own happiness and embrace the life we are given. So if you are looking for a book that will inspire and has an engaging storyline then go read The 27 Club by Kim Karr.

"Destiny - that hidden power that controls fate. Even though it's a path I don't want to be on, I'm not certain I can stray from it.

It owns me - I don't own it."

Zoey Flowers is a woman who never really believed in fate or destiny until she unexpectedly lost her brother Zachary in a tragic accident. Lost, consumed with grief, and paralyzed by the fear of her own uncertain fate, Zoey is unable to move forward with her life and truly live her life to the fullest.

There were so many aspects of Zoey's character that I loved and could relate to. She's kind, intelligent, caring, and the type of person who will go out of her way to help those in need. Of the two children in her family, she's always been a good girl, living a safe life, staying in school and going to college, and staying out of trouble. That reminds me so much of my own brother and myself =)

My heart broke for Zoey while reading about what she went through after her brother's death. I've lost someone who was a vital part of my life, someone that I considered to be one of my best friends, and someone that I loved with all of my heart and I could easily relate to Zoey's loss on so many levels. I can definitely say that this aspect of the story touched me on a deep, emotional level.

"Stars are born, they live, and they die - just like people. Some shine bright, some twinkle, some are faint specks you can barely see. The lives of stars vary, their vibrancy does too - but once they burn out they extinguish, and then they fall from the sky.

Isn't that the way of life?"

Nate Hanson was Zachary's best friend and he is there for Zoey when she travels to Miami to settle her brother's estate after his death. I adored Nate's character so much! <3 He's a successful businessman, confident, likes to take charge in any situation, a little demanding at times, and a very generous person. Nate is also very guarded and prefers casual flings to any sort of relationship.

Nate and Zoey have such different personalities that compliment one another perfectly. I loved watching the two of them grow close, push past their fears and insecurities, and find happiness in a way they neither of them expected.

"He feels so real. He's what I crave. He's what I want. He makes me feel alive."

I thought that the message behind this story was powerful, unique, and highly emotional at times. I will admit that I struggled a bit in the first half to get into this story but it really picked up in the second half and I couldn't put the book down. I was hooked by the angst, tangible sexual chemistry between Nate and Zoey, and the author threw in a few twists that I did not see coming.

The 27 Club by Kim Karr is a heart-wrenching story about moving forward after experiencing a tragic loss. It is a story about facing your fears and coming to terms with our own destiny. It is a story about finding unexpected love with someone who makes you feel truly alive for the first time.

4 INTRIGUING-HOT STARS!

description

This standalone really surprised me. It is a romance story, a very hot one indeed, but it's not your typical fall-in-love-easy kind of romance. This story is mysterious and a little dark and it is that darkness that brings the characters together in some unconventional yet intriguing ways.

“Destiny—that hidden power that controls fate. Even though it’s a path I don’t want to be on, I’m not certain I can stray from it. It owns me—I don’t own it.”

Yes, destiny and forces out of a person's control are the big themes in this story and they manifest right from the beginning when tragedy hits the heroine, Zoe Flowers. After suddenly losing her loving brother, Zoe is truly devastated but also convinced that her family is cursed and that she will soon be next to follow her brother's path. Therefore, while grieving she tries to come to terms with her impending future but then circumstances bring her to meet her brother's spellbinding and irresistible best best friend, Nathaniel Hanson, and he immediately ignites something in her she thought it was long lost. . . Her desire to live.

“Being with him has allowed me to see a different side of life, a side I never knew I was missing—a more sensual side that I want to explore.”

So Zoe embarks into a very passionate affair with Nate and her worries almost seem to escape her when she's with him. Well, almost . The cloud of her presumed fate keeps overshadowing her but it's Nate's presence that makes all the difference to her. So much so that she starts to question her destiny and what it will mean to actually want to change it. That's when things start to get more emotionally complicated for Zoe because how can she changes her own fate? And also how is it possible to fall in lust so fast?

“I just stare at his lips, longing to kiss him. My body is filled with so many wants and needs, and all these new urges I've never felt before. And all I want is just for him to set me free.”

This book was sizzling. The intensity and passion are quite strong here that they mostly make the book feel like an fiery erotica novel. I really enjoyed that from the book, those hot scenes were so well written that they kept the story very enticing. Moreover, the core of the story is very realistic I thought, since the fear of dying or just the idea of death is something most of us can easily comprehend because it happens all the the time around us. But what makes this book especial is how several opposite themes throughout the story are beautifully blended together, like: darkness and light, passion and fear, death and love, and grief and hope. Such combinations and the ultimate message at the end are really what makes this story unique and captivating for me. ♥

“Love, it comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it’s patient, sometimes it’s kind, but sometimes it emerges in the depths of something dark.”

I very much enjoyed The 27 Club. This is the kind of read that doesn't follow the norm of what's expected from a typical romance and that totally worked for me because I love to be surprised. The unique story, the broken characters, the darkness, and the scorching passion all make it a very intriguing-hot read I sure would recommend. And again this is a romance story and it has a beautiful HEA. ;)

PHENOMENAL!!!!! Full review to come when released. I will say this One click this Bad boy when it is released!!!!!!

I am a huge fan of Kim and her writing. I have read every single one of her books to date. When I found out she was going to be doing a new standalone I was excited to see what she was going to give us.

Zoey’s family is cursed. Every member of her family has died at the age of 27. After the death of her brother Zach she heads to his house to pack up his things. When she arrives she finds that things are not as they seem. What she finds when she gets there is her brother’s best friend Nate in the house she thought was Zach’s.

“They say the dead don’t speak. They say the dead will never leave you. They say a lot of things about the dead. What they don’t tell you is what you’re supposed to do when they weren’t who you thought they were.”

While trying to figure out why Zach lied and piece things together about his life Zoey starts to get closer to Nate. Having accepted her own fate, Nate gets her to start to see another side of herself, a part that she has never explored before. As much as Nate has himself closed off he wants to explore this with Zoey. Can Nate convince her to think about a future or will Zoey continue to believe her fate is set? Will Zoey join the 27 Club or not?

I loved how Kim built this story up. Yes it was a little slow at the beginning but it was also intrigued and had me wanting to know more about what was really going on. We did not get to actually fall in love with Zach, but through Nate and Zoey we got to know a little bit more about him.

I will say take a chance on this. I know some liked it and some did not. But things are always worth the chance right?

I am a HUGE Kim Karr fan and was thrilled when first hearing about her new suspense filled romance standalone. I love when authors take risks and gift their fans new and exciting stories. I had feeling it would be nail bitingly edgy and I needed to get my hands on it ASAP. The 27 Club is a drama filled read with countless mysteries and several plot twists. It is a departure from her norm, but no less attention grabbing.

Without giving too much away, this is a story about destiny and self-discovery. Zoey Flowers (the heroine) believes she is fated to die at the young age of 27. These fears are not unfounded, since recently losing her brother Zach, as well as other family members, at that age. Turing 27 herself, Zoey’s obsession with death is all consuming as she still grieves his loss. During her temporary stay in Miami to collect Zack’s belongings, she soon discovers her brother led a mysterious life. Thus begins the quest to piece together his secrets and the circumstances involving his accidental death…she needs answers soon, before she become the club’s next member.

I liked Zoey, but found she lived a little too much inside her head, shrouding her existence in so much darkness. It was sad to see her outlook on life was poisoned by the thoughts of a family curse. Here enters Nate Hanson, her brother’s best friend and a bit of an enigma himself. There’s an instant attraction and Zoey makes it clear she wants him desperately. He’s handsome, sexy and controlling; the perfect man for a quick and steamy fling, since she isn’t looking for a long-term relationship. There’s some sexual tension, which I always savor, as Nate battles their connection. But when they finally succumb to the passion, these two sizzle. This couple had chemistry, and Nate was oh-so dominating and hot.

I adored the way Nate took gentle care of Zoey in her time of need. She began to blossom as the bonds of their relationship grew stronger. Under Nate’s wing, Zoey reassesses her outlook and slowly begins to live and thrive. In her determination to unravel her brother’s and Nate’s secrets, she discovers herself and is opening her heart to love.

“Let me help you live wild and free.”

Her road to self-discovery was inspiring. For me, this story reinforces an important message; enjoy the gifts life has to offer despite hardships. We may not have control over destiny, but like Zoey, open our hearts to love, joy and happiness.

The 27 Club was a fascinating read and quite the rollercoaster ride. Buckle up for Zoey and Nate’s journey - Kim Karr is known for her deliciously descriptive and detailed writing style, which I absolutely enjoy. If you are a lover of suspense with a sexy twist, give this read a go because it had all the makings of an interesting novel…mystery, intrigue, tension, passion and an engaging cast of characters.

4 "Create Your Own Destiny" Stars! Being a lover of unique and twisty suspense or mystery filled romances, I took one look at the blurb for The 27 Club, and I just knew I had to read it. Interestingly, although different in some ways from what I was expecting, I still found it appealing in its own way, and ultimately thought provoking which is one of the characteristics that I look for in a good read. To that effect, whether you believe in destiny/fate, or are convinced that life is what you make of it, The 27 Club will provide you with plenty of material to challenge and debate your conclusions.

When her brother, Zach, becomes the latest victim of an alleged family curse which has caused a number of Zoey's relatives to die a tragic death at the young age of 27, Zoey is rendered immobilized. Could The 27 Club be real? If so, having just turned 27 herself, how should she live the last year of her life? As if that wasn't bad enough, she knows she has to travel to Miami to go and collect Zach's personal effects, a task which she desperately wishes she could just forget.

Once she finally does arrive in Miami, however, her life changes irrevocably. Not only does she meet Nate, Zach's best friend, but she also starts to uncover clues which lead her to question everything she thought she knew about her brother. Nate and Zoey quickly also find out that they share a mutual attraction. As much as they want to give in to their desires, however, they are constantly confronted with the forbidden nature of that attraction. To that effect, Nate is notorious for being a love them and leave them type, and Zoey's temporary stay in Miami is supposed to be short lived. Then there is her late brother's wishes and the blasted 27 Club curse which looms dangerously near. Can their possibly be a HEA under the circumstances?

While I do have to admit that I had expected a little more to the romance angle of this story, as I didn't immediately feel the connection beyond the physical attraction, the mystery surrounding the heroine's brother's true lifestyle, and the outcome of the family curse, kept me glued to my Kindle. Every time I thought I had it figured out, a new tidbit was thrown into the story causing me to start question my conclusion. I love books that can keep me on my toes!

All in all, if you're looking for something different, then The 27 Club may just be the next book you're looking for. This was my first read by Kim Karr, and it certainly has piqued my interest to explore more of her works.

I was very excited when I saw the blurb for this book. The title alone captured me immediately. Knowing that the author had been inspired by the real life 27 Club, I naturally assumed that this book would be more of a mystery-suspense type of story. The true 27 Club is a list of almost 50 musicians who all died coincidentally at the same age of 27. This list includes well known artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobain, Amy Winehouse, and many more. Conspiracy theories have been born from this and speculation grows as the names continue to be added. I was really looking forward to a fascinating read that I could really sink into, something that would be introspective and puzzling. Although the story veered in a completely different direction, I would have been fine with that had it not been for the total lack of connection to either main character or their relationship.

The heroine especially not only didn't grab my interest, put she was off putting to me in the worst way. Zoey was immature and to be blunt did nothing for me but annoy me. I tried to look past her whiny mentality, but it kept coming back to bite me in the ass. I understand that this woman lost her brother and was struggling with coming to terms with her own possible mortality. Death is a morbid and difficult topic to approach, so kudos to the author for the attempt at tackling it. But in all honesty, this woman came off the pages as if she was weak and irrational and that is not the type of female character I care to read about no matter what the circumstances.

The hero was a decent character, however I felt that he lacked development and I really did not understand at all his attraction and connection the the heroine. I felt confused over how he grew to feel this inexplicable need for her. And when the foundation of the couple's feelings isn't steady and strong, it leaves me feeling ambivalent to the story.

Although I didn't personally care for this book, I have read and enjoyed books from this author in the past. She's a very talented author with the skill to draw you into her words and characters lives. But respectfully, in this case that never ended up happening for me.

(I wasn't so sure about my stars... 4 or 5 - but because I love Nate & Zoey so much - I just had to give 5 stars!)

Zoey just lost her brother Zachary - Z. He died at the young age of 27. And he's not the first one in their family history to die at that exact age. Their mom, grandfather and a few other people, a few generations back, also died at the age of 27. And now Zoey just can't handle her life anymore because she's so afraid to die. She's afraid the family curse will kill her very soon.

But then she goes to Florida, to take care of her brother's belongings and to find out if he was at least happy with his life there, knowing he might die soon.....and that's where she meets Nate. Her brother's best friend.

description

Instant attraction on both sides.

Could this hot guy finally be someone who makes her want to fight to survive this year?

But Nate is not without his own problems.... will he be able to help Zoey fight for their life?

And what kind of secret life was her brother hiding in Florida?
Nothing really makes sense....

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO ZOEY & NATE???
WiLL EVERYBODY SURViVE THE BOOK?
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER???

description

NOPE . . .

description

I'm not telling you ☺

I don't want to spoil too much....
Cliffhanger???

I REALLY LOVED THiS BOOK!

I wasn't really sure what to think of the book once I read the blurb....and saw the cover. Because both blurb and cover are totally weird...they don't really fit with the story in my opinion :/ At least in the beginning of the story ☺ Especially the shushing mouth on the cover? It looks a bit like weird porn meets Pretty Little Liars ☺ But yeah - after reading more, the secret part makes a bit more sense - but still the cover is not really gonna make it on my favorite list ☺

And another tiny little thing that I didn't like - but that's just my own weirdness - I don't like Florida - I don't want my books to be set in Florida :( It's just so hot and humid and I'm sweating just reading about it :/

But I really liked the story.

First we meet poor Z - who obviously dies - which we already find out in the blurb.... And which is really sad, because we could've really fallen in love with him :/

Then we get to hear about Zoey's problems via her therapist.

And then Zoey finally starts with her POV.

She wants to clear out her brother's house in Florida - only it's not really his house - he lied a bit about everything.... The house belongs to Nate.

And while Nate is showing her Z's favorite places and a bit more about her brother's life, the both of them kind of fall in love with each other.... But Zoey doesn't want that really, because she believes she's dying soon. And Nate - he has his own demons and reasons for why a relationship with his best friend's sister is not something he should want.

But of course both of them not really wanting it, doesn't stop them from doing it ☺☺☺

description

It's a really interesting story.... with lots of things happening at once.

Zoey trying to survive another year - Nate trying to keep her from getting too close and the whole secrecy about Z's life...and how Nate & Zoey try to get to the bottom of it all. And so much more.

I really enjoyed reading it...

THE 27 CLUB was a surprisingly erotic & moving & adorable Romance! I totally fell in love with Nate & Zoey!!!

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

Sometimes you have to wonder if your life is too good to be true.
Is it real or just an illusion?
Does the man lying beside you really love you like he says he does?
If the answer is yes, you’re meant to live happily ever after.
If the answer is no, you’re living my life, and nothing will ever be the same.

What you do about it—that’s up to you.

Me, I’m in too deep and there’s no getting out.

I’ll take whatever I can get for as long as I can because I know when it’s over…

I’ll never find another man like him.

I just couldn't get into this book. The storyline wasn't grabbing me, and there was not enough development by this point to hold my interest.

I know that many have enjoyed this one, and I may go back and finish in the future, but at this time, this book just wasn't for me.

The 27 Club is another fantastic book from Kim Karr. In the author's true fashion, we are given an intriguing and highly emotional story. One of those books that stayed with me long after I finished reading. A It was filled with mystery, unanswered questions, and need. I felt every bit of this story right down to my toes.

Zoe's brother has recently passed away, and she goes to Miami to settle his affairs. She discovers that basically everything she thought she knew was a lie. She meets Nate her brother's best friend and is immediately thrown for a loop. Secrets, and deceit are all she finds, plus a undeniably attraction to Nate, who has plenty of secrets of his own. One being what Zoe's brothers life was really like. There is also the fact that most of Zoe's family die when they are twenty-seven and her days just may be numbered. Is this, all Zoe's destiny or something completely different and out of her control?

When we meet Zoe, she's lost, hurt, and in need of closure. Nate gives her everything she needs physically, but emotionally they are oceans a part. He holds answers that she may not be prepared for. Honoring her brother's memory becomes difficult when they are both drawn to one another. We are given an emotional union between the couple that seems to start the healing process for them both. Nate's demons have everything to do with Zoe's questions, but nothing to do with how he feels for her. It's a traumatic journey, and one I loved traveling on. Their love was beautiful in so many different ways.

If you believe in love and destiny, then you will fall in love with this story. You never know when you are going to discover what the future holds, but when you do, and you feel it in your bones, then you are done for. Some paths are chosen for you and the circumstances that lead to them may not make sense, but there is a reason behind every struggle, and every tear. Life is bigger than all of us, and as long as there is faith everything will work out.

The background of this book matched the romance. I could feel the Miami sunshine, and smell the ocean air. The symmetry of the story was vividly defined in such a unique way. I loved how Zoe and Nate made me feel. They were tender, sweet, and full of unbridled passion. Plain and simple a beautiful and captivating story. I was easily lost in this book, and I can't wait to do it all over again. This certainly will be at the top of my list of most beloved romances.

Dylan Thomas said it best ~

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Death is not a topic that too many people freely discuss. It’s morbid and scary. But it’s reality. Regardless of the fact that death will come for everyone at some point, it’s up to each and every person to decide what they are going to do with the time they are given, even if it’s way shorter than they were hoping.

Zoey Flowers and Nate Hanson, the main characters in Kim Karr’s newest release The 27 Club, may have different views on living and whether or not they believe in fate, but neither of them is truly living their lives to the fullest – both out of fear but for very different reasons.

Since she was young, Zoey’s believed in destiny, losing many family members as the years had gone by. But since her brother’s death at the young age of 27, she’s allowed fate to lead her into darkness and sadness, simply waiting for the same fate as many of her bloodline. For the past 27 years, she’s lived a tame life, meeting expectations in a boring and calm way. She wants a reason to move forward, but she won’t allow her uncertain future to ruin anyone else’s life. With extreme acquiescence, Zoey’s resolved herself of her fate, but while she waits, she wants Nate to show her how to be untamed and carefree because she’s never felt more alive than she has since meeting his brother’s best friend.

Nate Hanson’s life is one of control and work but not love or commitment. His path has been shaped by watching his father lose the love of his life and endure years of suffering. He refuses to walk that same route, so he keeps people at bay, never allowing anyone close until Zoey. Nate takes it upon himself to teach Zoey how to be wild and free, but in return, Zoey shows Nate what his life’s been missing; now, he just has to decide if he can see past his hang ups and change his destiny.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Fuck destiny! Fuck fear! Fight against it and win!

Regardless of if you believe in destiny/fate or not, The 27 Club sends a clear message about living life to the fullest and figuring out how to grab hold of the present by letting go of the past and not worrying about a future that may or may not occur.

Kim Karr’s newest release is a different kind of read, but it’s so worth the read because at the heart of the story is two people finally realizing how to live a life worth living!

This book was so hard to rate, not because it wasn't good or because the writing was bad, it was good. Just wasn't for me.

I love Kim Karr's connection series so when I had the option to review this book I didn't hesitate but after finishing the 27 club I was highly disappointed I couldn't relate to the storyline. I couldn't really get into the book until fifty-one percent and on top of that it was really slow. Way too slow. And of course the heroine got on my nerves.

What I really love is the heroine's brother in the beginning he's probably the only character I liked.

Brilliant storyline with a unique storyline.

Zoey lives in fear of death now that she's 27. Why? Well a lot of her family members have died at that age, including her brother. When she goes to her deceased brothers house she meets Nate his best friend. Zoey believes in destiny. Nate believes in taking the bull by the horn and enjoying life. I really liked these characters and loved that the author portrayed them so real.

This is a brilliant romantic story with great suspense running through it. Although it's a long story it doesn't feel like it is and I couldn't wait to read it. Emotional story about making the most out of life. Highly recommend this story.

The title didn't click with me but that didn't take anything away from the story. It was probably me just thinking it was gonna be an actual club!!

This is a story of grief, confronting your inner fears and finding love on the other Side of it.
The story opens with zach flowers on a night out for his birthday where he meets the woman of his dreams. However, he is convinced that this is the year he will die. For some reason it seems to be a family curse where members die at 27. So I was a little disappointed when in the same epilogue his sister, Zooey,is visiting a therapist and tells her that her brother has died and she too is scared of the family curse. I really wanted to see where the story went with zach and the girl he just met.
When Zooey goes to Zachs house she has an instant connection with his best friend nate, who at first I found a little creepy, sneaking around zachs house in the night, avoiding questions..but god does the author paint a pretty picture of him. Coffee bean hair and forest green eyes. Yes please.
It seems zach hasn’t been all that truthful. That wasn’t his house and it’s hints that there’s parts of his personality Zooey has gotten confused, she describes him as a romantic, however in the epilogue, zach is chasing anything in a skirt?

This was a different kind of romance genre for me. As in, nobody is kidnapped and the “alpha” male is well..well he’s a pretty nice guy, says he’s an arsehole but it’s obvious he likes her. It was a welcome change.
All was going well until halfway and I’m not sure what happened but some very soft bdsm was introduced and it felt like a lot of padding out for what was an obvious ending from the start. It did pick up enough for me to finish it though.

I’m giving this 3 stars (an ok read on my scale) I enjoyed it because it was a little softer and tamer than my usual reads, but I disliked it for the same reasons. I realise how odd that sounds. I guess I need a bit more thriller and less filler in a book especially when it’s so blatantly obvious the girl gets the guy in the end. Also the whole mystery about her brothers secret lifestyle was hardly mysterious..But it was a nice summer read, that for the most part kept my attention with its likeable characters and happily ever after vibes. Possibly the most contradictory evaluation I’ve wrote.

Kim Karr 's The 27 Club is different. It takes a subject that most of us don't like thinking about, our morality, and turns it into a story that leaves us feeling the need to make each day full of living life to the fullest! I signed up to read this book based solely on the fact that I loved Kim Karr's Connection series and her writing. I don't remember reading the synopsis until I picked up the book to start reading. (Kim is an auto read author for me). After reading the synopsis, I knew I was in for something different from the Connection series, something grittier and darker. (Did you get that too from the blurb?) However, The 27 Club wasn't what I was expecting. Zoey and Nate took me on a different journey than I expected, and while I enjoyed this story I am left wanting a bit more angst and drama (I know! I never want more drama!)

The 27 Club takes the idea of destiny and plays around with it in how these characters live their lives. Zoey Flowers is afraid to live, for most of her life she was taught to fear turning 27, and after tragedy strikes with her brother dying at 27, her fear of dying paralyzes her from living. Zoey was a character I wanted to like more, but never truly connected with until the last half of the book. Nate, however, captured me from the beginning. Nate was the hero we all sigh over and had me all tangled up for the first part of this book and completely infatuated by the epilogue.

Kim Karr had a lot of threads going on in this story and while it did take me a bit to get into the story, once it clicked I was hooked. One of my favorite things about Kim's writing is the unexpected threads that reveal themselves in her books. In The 27 Club there were some threads that intrigued me (The Estate) but never went anywhere, but then there were threads that led to interesting twists and surprises. I enjoyed the whole moral to this story that destiny is the path you choose and life should be lived each day to its fullest, but I was left wanting a bit more. A bit more drama. A bit more mystery. A bit more heart tugging emotion. A bit more of The Estate.

The 27 Club, while not what I was expecting did deliver a very good story. I think jumping into this book without reading the synopsis might be the best way to go, that way you don't have false assumptions to cloud your perception of what to expect. Kim Karr definitely gives the reader a lot to think about in this book. What would you do if you thought your life was counting down fast? Would you grab the first person that made you feel alive and safe and hold on? Or would you hide away? The 27 Club gives you a lot to think about and while I wish we got more from Nate, his epilogue is one of the best I have read in a while!

Kim Karr has created a book that was thought provoking, hot, and filled with characters you can't help but want to know more about. If you were a fan of the Connection series, then you will enjoy this next offering from Kim. If you have never read a Kim Karr book, then you are in for a treat with how she intertwines her stories with heat, heart and thought provoking subjects. The 27 Club is definitely a book you will want to check out and see for yourself how Zoey and Nate decide to "FUCK Destiny!"

The 27 Club was nothing like what I expected from the blurb or the cover. What started off a little mysterious in the beginning and at times had me wondering which way the story was headed, finished with a flawless ending. I didn't want to let these characters go.

This story begs the question - do we have control of our own destiny, or will life end at some predetermined time? Zoey recently lost her 27-year-old brother, Zack, and she fears the same fate awaits her. Death any day, now that she's twenty-seven. Through the generations, several of her family members have also died at the same age, hence The 27 Club.

Zoey heads down to Miami, a few months after her brother dies, hoping to find some sign that he led a happy life there and to get some type of closure. What she doesn't expect to find is someone that changes everything, her brother's best friend, Nate. They have chemistry from the start and it awakens something in her. Usually the responsible one, she wants to throw caution out the door and live her life or what little time she might have left, with no regrets.

Nate doesn't do relationships and Zoey's convinced that fate could step in any day, so a summer fling in Miami is all that either of them can commit to. They live in their own bubble of hot sex, tender moments and in a way it's healing for both of them. Zoey starts to realize that it's so much more than just a fling for her, but does Nate feel the same way? Does she even have a future? It's so worth the read to find out.

"I need you next to me when I wake up in the morning and lying beside me when I fall asleep at night. I need you like the air I breathe."

What I love the most about Kim Karr's books are the intense connections she creates between her characters. It's impossible to deny the strong feelings between Zoey and Nate from the moment they meet. Of course, Nate was my favorite part. He was a broody, sexy guy, hiding a huge, but damaged heart. And there were a few times that he let his vulnerability show and it was heart stopping. I just couldn't get enough of him.

"Are you sure you want me?"

There were a few things that felt disjointed and maybe even a little odd along the way, but it didn't change how I felt about the story. I expected some pivotal things to be revealed about her brother and more so about Nate, but that's not what happened. It wasn't about one huge truth being uncovered, it was more little things happening throughout. The story had a different feel to it, and I appreciated that.

3.5 ★

This is a first Kim Karr read and for me and I think I’m pleased enough with it.

I must say, it was a weird feeling reading the prologue. The dialogues felt a little stilted and I was wondering if the rest of the story will feel like that. Then when I got to the first chapter, ah shucks, I almost felt guilty for even thinking that, just knowing what happened. Yes, weird! I meant, yes, I know, I’m weird…

It’s quite an emotional story, not quite what I was expecting. Well, to be fair, not really sure what else I was expecting. Mystery shrouded in darkness? Perhaps?… But like I said, not quite the touching emotions… hmmm…

Zoey just lost her brother when she met Nate who was her brother’s close friend, and so began their story. Zoey was dealing with personal issues brought on by death and family and destiny. Nate was dealing with personal issues brought on by death and abandonment and family. I really felt for Zoey, to have had that burden over her head, whether it was true or not. And to have a loss like that, it was sad. And Nate, I understood his issues. They had what each other needed but didn’t want to acknowledge it. And before they’re even aware of it, they gave what each other needed, and they couldn’t have been better paired. Their connection, it sizzled!

Having said that, there was something that prevented me from fully connecting with the story, not quite sure what it was. Maybe it was some of the stilted dialogues that popped up here and there, not just in the prologue? Also, as wrong as my sorta’ expectation of it being a dark read, I guess that played into it too when I realized that this is more of an emotional read.

In the end, my qualms took away points in my head but not enough to not have enjoyed Zoey and Nate. All good, as they as say…

Okay, I really really enjoyed this! After reading a few reviews I didn't think I would care for it but because I loved her other books I gave it a shot. I loved it!

I adore Nate's character. He is sweet, attentive and yet he's alpha and yumm. It's the perfect combination. He immediately is drawn to her even though he knows he "shouldn't" be. I loved the chemistry between them both, even when he was trying to deny what he felt for her. I also find it's rare in a book

I also loved Zoey's character!

My favorite thing about this book was that it wasn't rushed, it was realistic and I love Kim's writing. The ending was just what I needed and I'm so happy it ended that way!

I can't wait to read more!

The 27 Club is unlike any other Kim Karr novel that I've ever read. Can I finish this review with just that statement? No? Okay then.

The premise, the synopsis of The 27 Club is a beautiful mystery that hooked me from the start. The only thing I'm sure of when I started reading this was that I'm sure this is another story that will touch my heart, in what way, I still have to figure out as I read along but after reading it -- damn, this is so much more than what I thought it would be. Do you have any ideas on what this would be about from the title and the synopsis? If you do, brace yourself for a surprisingly stunning and somehow emotional twists and turns from Zoey and Nate's story.

Zoey's life has been norma, somewhat routine and boring, her only family and the 2 people she cares and loves the most in the world are her Mimi and her brother, Zachary. But with Mimi gone and then Zach's death, she took it hard. Add to that that now, she's always worried about the 27 club unlike before. She now lives everyday in fear and detached not just from any kind of relationship with people, but also with things and tasks such as planning and making decisions about the future.

When Zoey flew to Miami to sort out her brother's things, she discovered that Zach has been keeping things from her and his best friend, Nate. Lies, secrets, Zoey couldn't let things go. She had to know. She wanted to know. So she spent her time in Miami doing that. She wanted answers and she found ways to get those answers but that's not the only thing she got. She got Nate Hanson, too.

Nate Hanson, Zach's best friend, Zoey's fantasy come true. At first, Kim got me frustrated with Nate. It's obvious how attracted he was with Zoey yet at the same time, I'm also curious as to why he felt the need to pull away from that attraction. I understand Zach told him off before, but how he was acting felt like it was so much more than that and then it happened... Kim Karr sure know how to turn what a seemingly simple answer would be to a surprising twist that's not too over the top but still managed to get the "Oh, that's why!" reaction from me. And there were a lot of "Oh gosh, really?" moments for me in here, too!

So why 4 and not 5 stars? I enjoyed everything about this book, it got emotions out of me that would normally tick me off but because in this case it made for an effective storytelling, I'm putting that under pros instead of cons. The premise was unique and this book was not just about love but about living life to the fullest. I just felt like holding off on that 1 star for those few parts where the scenes/dialogues didn't work too well with me. Since those were just few and didn't really impact how the story developed and ended or how I enjoyed reading the not just Nate and Zoey but also Zach.

I read books to get away from the real world sometimes or when I'm craving some emotions that reading books give me, but with The 27 Club, Kim Karr also provided an inspiration for me and overall, this is what it was for me. A story about family, life and love that Kim Karr's writing turned into an intriguing story that will have you guessing and emotional.

Stars: 4 stars
Recommended to: If you're looking for a standalone romance that will make you fall in love and want to live life to the fullest, this book is an inspiration!
Series: No.
POV: First person. Female POV (with other POVs).
Extra comment: I wanted a longer Epilogue, but then again that's me and my being a sucker for mushy endings talking.
