About the author

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bourgeois graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational therapy from the University of Western Ontario in 1974. She was a psychiatric occupational therapist for three years before deciding to focus on her writing. She studied journalism at Carlton University then worked as a reporter for the Ottawa Citizen and CBC Television. She became a freelance journalist in Washington, D.C. contributing pieces to Chatelaine, Canadian Living, Reader's Digest and Maclean's. She returned to Toronto in 1983.

In 2003, she became a Member of the Order of Canada and in 2007, she received an Honourary Doctor of Laws from her alma mater, the University of Western Ontario.

Franklin Has a Sleepover is a delightful story about Franklin inviting his friend Bear for his first sleepover. Bear comes over after dinner and they build a tent in the living room, had a cookout and then Bear gets homesick for his room.

Franklin takes Bear to his small cozy room and they go to sleeep after Franklin tells Bear's toy bunny 'Goodnight', just like Bear's mother does every night. The first night a young child spends away from home, they can be upset and Franklin understands his friend's concerns and helps him feel better.

I keept Franklin Has a Sleepover as part of my classroom library.

A cute read especially for a child who is getting ready for their first sleepover. Franklin and his friend Bear are having a sleepover and it tell us the fun things they do together. This book shows to Franklin and Bear are great friends. A great read for kids between the ages of 3-6

Good book to read prior to a sleepover. Pictures were colorful but standard and story was standard. Good discussion book for elementary kids.

Not impressed. Good art, but just a so-so story. Plus, it's confusing to young children that the bear is just called "Bear", while the turtle is called Franklin.

A good story for a child to read who is going to have their first sleepover. It's good to know you might get scared or upset when you are staying at a friend's house for the first time.

This was a nice Franklin the turtle book; helping children understand that it's okay to feel a little nervous about sleeping over at a friends house for the first time. This story was well written about Bear sleeping over at Franklin's house and how Franklin and his parents make Bear feel better. This story and the cartoon are 'similar' but are different. So if your child is used to the show they maybe a little disappointed but the storybook is a good one.

Very cute book! Would be a good book to read to children before their first sleepover. Franklin has Bear over for a sleepover and he gets homesick. Good opportunity to talk to children about what to do if they get homesick.
