I’m not sure where to start with this one. I guess I’ll start with a thank you to the author. After contacting me about reading the first part of this book, I was given the entire thing for free in exchange for a review. So, thank you very much! I certainly enjoyed it!

In all honesty, this was almost a five star book. However, whilst I’m much too nice about giving four stars when a book is a three point five star book, I’m not quite as nice when it’s a four point five star book. That being said, it was almost there.

In my review of the first part of this book (free on Amazon, go get it people) I said my four stars reflected the fact that I did not quite connect with the characters in the same way that I have in other books. Now, whilst that is true of the first part of the book that soon changes. It was a case of me not connecting as quickly as I would have liked, and I think that plays a part in the four stars given here. Honestly, I’m picky like that with my five stars – sorry.

Still, the characters are great. They’re well developed, they continue to grow throughout, information is given at the right moments to help you understand them better, and they’re all unique. Even better than the characters is the story. Wow, what a great revenge story we have here! I wasn’t quite sure what I had been expecting, yet it turned out to be much more complex and more beautiful than I had imagined it to be; such detail, so unique.

Honestly, it was great and I plan to come back to the author in the future. Pick up part one for free on Amazon and I can assure you that you’ll soon be pulled in.

Square 1 - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Square is an interesting and new twist on the traditional 'when-crooks-fall-out' type of thriller...and I loved it!
A must for fans of 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding' & other tv series, the characters in this [free copy, 1 of 3 in the series, of which this is my honest, freely-given review], book are clearly well-researched and provide a strongly written plot, set in the travellers community.

Tony is a (very recent), ex-con: while serving 4 years for his part in a savage murderous gang activity, he has had time to reflect on the wasted lives of [often illiterate] travellers, who could be so much more if given the education and opportunity to better themselves and escape from the self-perpetuating doldrum of teenage marriages, young parenthood and often a life of petty crime...such as that offered by traveller/gang-boss Stivie.

At the 'welcome home' party organised by girlfriend Becky, (his secretly pregnant & soon to be wife) Tony learns that his three brothers have left town one after another with no clue as to their whereabouts. Moses, now a drug-addict who was the last to leave, owes Stivie a lot of money - a fact Stivie's prepared to exploit, when Tony tries to turn his back on the world of 'chor'(crime).
All Tony wants is to achieve his ambition to use a local school's gymnasium as an education centre for any and all the travellers in the community, to help them realise their goals and dreams...especially now he and Becky are engaged.

How will things pan out for Tony and Becky? Will their dream of a happy family life and enrichment of the travellers' lives become a reality - or does Stivie have other ideas and no scruples?
This quick-to-read book by the talented Perrin Briar, will have you gripped from the first page right to the very last - and beyond to the next in the series - start the adventure right now!

Perrin Briar's book Square was absorbing, thought provoking, disturbing and relatively sad. Usually by the second or third page I know I am going to enjoy the read. This one took a little longer but was certainly worth reading on. Tony the only person to be jailed for a heinous crime which he was involved in together with other perpetrators has just spent 4 years in jail. The other men involved have since all disappeared. No one knows where they went. Throughout his incarceration he used the opportunity to educate himself further, being a child of a family of travelers he was working in the fields by the age of 4 and only periodically did he attend school. This can be way of life for travelers, they are not long enough in one place to integrate into the community or be able to secure a job. This leads to many of them being uneducated, illiterate, unable to get a job and this draws them into a life of crime to be able to survive and feed their families.

He is attending a welcome home party organised by his girlfriend Becky whom he is intending to propose to that night. He feels life is good when he thinks how he is going to turn his life away from crime and only do good for his traveler's community making their life better and their goals and dreams achievable by education.

Tony now feels he has purpose in his life through his determination and passion he will succeed. He deeply regrets his actions 4 years ago and wants to make amends through this project he has in mind. Unknown to him life has other plans and dire consequences.

This story takes you on a journey "what if" and makes you ask yourself the question would you seek revenge if
someone hurt your family and the justice system failed you with the sentence handed down. A must read. Highly recommend.

On September 5, 2008, Tony Green took part in a crime that led to his imprisonment by December 15. Four years later, he is released, reunited with and engaged to his girlfriend Becky in Becton, Britain. Throughout the first few chapters of the novel, there are little hints here and there that something is amiss, and this is expanded upon when Tony is haunted by his past. As Becky (anxious about what news may change her life) and her parents wait for him at a restaurant, he is captured by a vengeful woman, age 57. I wonder if Briar gave her the same age as Becky's mother on purpose. Perhaps to suggest that both characters are stuck in a sense? In either case, I was eager to learn more about the background that haunted Tony, and the fact that there is little description of thoughts of characters keeps the audience surprised as a TV series or film would; the novel relies heavily on compelling and revealing dialogue, the truthfulness of which keeps one guessing. You will understand the title a bit better once you see the symbolism provided within this suspenseful novel, the ending of which seemed unbelievable at first until it was explained a bit further via dialogue. If you found yourself rooting for Dexter Morgan, here you might find yourself routing for the person at the other end of the knife.

I was given the book Square as part of a deal for leaving a review on amazon for another of Perrin Briar's books, though I am not required to leave a review I believe this book deserves one.
From the very first page this book gripped me I even stayed up past midnight I just couldn't put it down, I had to finish it.

Tony has just finished a four year jail sentence, while inside he vowed he would change his life. His fiancée beccy has always believed in him and she is his inspiration for wanting to help people like himself from maki the same mistakes he has. His dream is to set up classes at the local community centre for kids and adults from disadvantaged families to learn to read and write, to give them a chance at a better life. But somebody can't forget what he did and thinks he got off lightly. Will Tony manage to start his classes or will his dreams be shut down?

This book is a gruesome tale about revenge and what that much hatred does to the human mind. Parts of this book will leave you cringing, it is so realistic you can almost feel the pain and hopelessness. It's an amazing murder mystery type book and appeals to so many genres, you won't regret reading it. I give it 5 stars, it can be found at amazon.

Woa, one fine read! This book is absolutely fantastic. It's alittle dark, but would be dealing with getting revenge on someone who killed the man you loved. I was hooked from the very first few chapters. This book opens your mind to sinister hatred and revenge...would I kill someone, would I plot to get even, or do I have it in me to carry this brutal revenge out? How much hatred does it take carry out this plot? The evil of the revenge goes so deep into the soul.

Wow, Becky loves Tony so much that she never quits looking for him or his killer. What a love that most of us will never know. Tony comes home from prison after spending four years remaking himself into more than the killer he had become. Becky waited then and she waited now. I bought the whole book at one time. I didn't piece meal it one at a time....mainly because I couldn't wait. I had read the free exerpt fron Amazon and then was hooked. My only disappointment is that I couldn't buy it on Barnes and Noble. So I bought it and had to read it on a large tablet. Excellent book. This would be a great book for review.

This was a great read! I will start by saying it is in part a dark tale of revenge and hatred. It is quite graphic in parts but necessary for the story to be told. Please be forewarned instead of leaving a bad review based on that. This was an original plot and it was well written. I couldn't put this down until the end. I was hooked from beginning to end. Hatred is a strong emotion and some will go to great lengths because of it. Seeking revenge will change a person. This is also in part about redemption and wanting to atone for a bad decision. Regret is also a strong emotion that will change a person. You will be left thinking long after you have finished this book about right and wrong, revenge and redemption. The characters are very well developed. You come to know Tony and Becky and like them, flaws and all. Each character is good and bad in their own way. You get to see each side of them.
I would definitely recommend this book to others. It will grab your attention from the first page to the last.
I was provided a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review based on another book I reviewed. This did not effect my review one way or the other.

I finished this book in 2 days, as it was one of those thrillers that was hard to set aside.

I was somewhat taken aback by the chapters dedicated to the revenge killings orchestrated by a widow. She spent much of her time plotting the torture deaths of the 4 men who had done the same to her husband & decided those exact means should be suffered by them.

She had already fulfilled her mission on 3 of them, who were never seen again, & was pleased when the last of them, Tony, was finally released from prison. She set herself up, under an assumed name in a remotely-located business which she felt, because of his past, he would eventually contact & which he did.

What occurs during the time she has him in captivity is a lengthy & detailed, step-by-step torture beyond descriptive words.

If you enjoy this genre of plots, then this is the book for you, as nothing is left to the imagination. The only thing I perhaps would've changed was the way the story ended, as the events which unfolded didn't seem that plausible.

**I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Wow. This book, 'Square', completely took me by surprise. I loved the storyline and how it played out. Tony is a great character that has such high hopes for those who need help. He is definitely a caring and compassionate character. I loved how the whole story came full circle. Becky is a strong woman to endure what she did. I loved the characters. This is one of those books that pulls you in and doesn't let go. I couldn't put it down. I loved the ending. A great add to your tbr list.

I was asked by the author to read part one of this book for a review.
I can honestly say that I'm not sure I would have downloaded the book, had I not been asked to. Now that being said, I felt it was a little dark but had some insight on the life of travelers. I know little of the life of travelers. I found that it was something that I enjoyed reading and look forward to the other parts of this book. I was reading and got to the end and disappointed that the story stopped, want to know what happened next......

Psychological Revenge Thriller

Square, Episode 1, introduces Tony. He served four years in prison for a murder. He learned a lesson in prison and he wants to make a difference.

Square (the complete seasons 1 - 4), by Perrin Briar, is a psychology thriller as well as a mystery. It's full of twists and turns. It's difficult to give the story justice without spoiling it for the reader. Take a chance on Square.

Good golly! Talk about edge of your seat, I fell off a couple of times.

I started by reading the first 'episode' entitled Welcome Home and then moved on to reading the entire novel.

This is a suspenseful tale, filled with surprises, moments that makes you cringe and shriek, moments of despair and moments of triumph.

A real roller coaster ride I thoroughly enjoyed. Perrin Briar

I only read Part 1 of this series... and won't be reading the rest. It was slow moving and none of the characters grabbed me. From the sounds of the other reviews, perhap the story picks up, but at this point, I could care less about the characters. The book I read ended with Tony passing out in the washroom and his girlfriend discovering she was pregnant.

Typical of any Perrin Briar book it is well written and always deals with a societal issue. In my case I found the issue of revenge up front and center. I just love the way the lady just waited for her time to take perfect revenge. This is one of those books you can't put down so you might as well to plan on reading it in one day.
