WANTED: A Nanny Who’ll Put Up With My Unsportsmanlike Conduct

When my balancing act between being a single dad to a toddler and a rugby union captain starts to falter, I’m forced to hire another nanny.

I’m already on thin ice with the agency because of my grumpy, overbearing micromanagement so Harper is my last chance. He’s clever, kind, caring, not to mention gorgeous, and I’m already antsy because he’s so capable he makes me feel useless. But Harper also has a core of steel and when I push him, he pushes back.

He makes me feel seen, like I’m more than a parent and a captain, and soon I’m falling for the man who’s brighter than sunshine.

I shouldn’t want him, even when it’s clear he feels the same. But maybe it’s time to throw caution to the wind for once and do the irresponsible thing.

It might get me everything I’ve ever wanted.

Honestly such a fun read from start to finish! Matty is such a relatable character. His parental guilt and feelings of inadequacy really resonated with me, and the mishaps with Jack were so funny and realistic!

Harper has the patience of a saint to deal with Matty and his overbearing ways, but their relationship developed so naturally and just made me smile so much. Harper becoming friends with the Court drag queens felt like such a good fit, and seeing Matty finally open up to his teammates and get a ton of relationship advice was so entertaining.

I also loved the little things in this book that I recognised: I know that exact beach in Skegness where they go for their training, having been there a few times when I lived in Nottingham; the Brambly Hedge books made me laugh because I have that exact same set, except they're too pretty to give to my brute of a child so I'm keeping them safe on my own bookshelf 😂😂

I'm really enjoying how every book in the series is building on that feeling of found family with the rugby team too, and I'm definitely curious about Danny's story...

I love this author. I loved the writing style. I loved the plot. I love love love nanny employee stories. This book was so good and I loved it!

But minor pet peeve - I hate when authors write out toddler accents phonetically. They rarely get it right and it always annoys me so much.

Once again Charlie delivers a superb romance centred around the Lincoln Knights rugby union team and I was fortunate to have an early beta copy to read.

As with the others in the series, there's a perfect balance between the sporting side of Matty's activities and the disaster which is his single parent life.

Until the moment Harper walks into it, bringing sunshine, early years training and a decade of experience as a nanny.

Harper's not used to being under the all-encompassing scrutiny of a single dad who's constantly worried he's getting it wrong and so over compensates because of his fears and there's a bit of conflict as they find their feet.

Jack, Matty's adorable almost three-year-old, is what draws them closer, Matty slowly realising that Harper is the perfect caregiver for his son.

And, as the friction lessens between them, the sexual tension rises as both men have been instantly attracted to the other since the start.

Of course, things are never easy and getting involved with the boss is never a great idea, and you can probably guess where the trouble comes from.

One thing I really appreciated in this narrative is how Jack's mum Hannah's story is so relatable but often overlooked.

That of a woman who wasn't a natural parent and who didn't ever expect to be one. She's doing her best but has a career which takes her around the world and she genuinely believes Jack being with Matty is the best thing for him.

It's refreshing to get a story where the ex isn't a hag making life difficult and I really liked Hannah and how she was able to make Matty see the realities of his situation.

If course, it's a romance, so you best bet there's a HEA and it's an utterly delightful one, helped along the way by the rest of the gang at the Knights, complete with shenanigans at Skegness, a surprising home truth or two from winger Danny (who's up next!) and two men who are an absolutely perfect match.

#ARC kindly received from the author via The Author Agency, I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I’m normally all for the romance but with this book I truly loved the family aspect and the ups and downs of raising a toddler in a single parent home more. Every scene with Jack in it was precious, even when he was having his big feelings. His sass was absolutely adorable.

Matty is a pretty overbearing parent but I think the author did an amazing job explaining why. He’s just a single dad doing the best he can to raise his son. He was lonely and grumpy but soften up once his sunshine Harper made his way into his heart. Harper was pure sunshine. He handled things with poise and was so kind.

I really liked Hannah’s character as well. Her and Matty were wonderful co parents who found a way to raise their son that worked for them. They always put Jack first. The rugby boys were also terrific brothers and there for Matty. They honestly gave the best advice were super supportive. I’m excited for the next book in the series.

- Single dad X nanny
- Grumpy X sunshine
- Overbearing parent, rugby captain, caretaker MMC
- Live in nanny, glasses wearer, sweet MMC
- Hyper-mobility rep
- Secretly hooking up

It was a fun read . Cute and sweet romance. Plotline was simple and medicore.

Characters were enjoyable. I really like Matty's character. He was authentic and realistic character in my opinion. His worries as parents were relatable. He always looks for improvement in himself.
So , yes really like him.

Harper, he is smart and no nonsense guy. I really appreciate his character. The way he called Matty on jis behaviour was enjoyable.

Jack , he is a plus point. Make you read the book. 😅. He is such cutie.

Side characters were good and supporting.

The storyline was simple and medicore. It was combination of all other single dad and nanny and nothing new ( expect Female character was genuinely nice in this). So yes its make story a repetitive and less intresting.

Otherwise it was good read . If you want something light romance with lot of sweetness and mature characters . Then go for it.

I received ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

This was the sweetest low-angst single dad sports romance that I’ve ever read. Harper is a whirlwind that flies into single dad, Marty’s life when he most needs it. They butt heads, they argue but most importantly they communicate. It’s a bit forbidden and a lot spicy as they navigate a boss/employee relationship and taking care of a small child.

- Rugby
- Nanny/Single Dad
- No Sexual Awakenings
- Disability Rep
- Boss/Employee

Seeing the disability rep of Harper’s hypermobilty was the icing on the cake. It wasn’t a major plot point but included Matty making seamless accomodations as part of their everyday lives. I didn’t vibe all of the adult/child interactions but it was a very minor gripe that I had

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover and will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

Thanks to The Author Agency for providing me an ARC to read. This review is my honest opinion.

Such a cute sweet story. Omg, it was such a joy watching these two fall in love. Matty. As a parent I totally get it. The first kid is touch not knowing what the heck you’re doing. That feeling of failing them. It never goes away no matter how many you have, but you do your best apologize often and remember you are human too. Harper. I love you Harper because while you are sweet and so freaking patient you didn’t take anyone’s BS. And yay to bringing light to hypermobility! I’m being tested for that so it was nice to see it represented in a book.
I do want to give a shout out for the way Jacks mom was written. It was nice to see a story where for once the mom wasn’t a crappy person causing issues. It’s nice to see women in a better light and not once again put down. I also appreciate not having an ending where suddenly everything is fixed and better with the in laws. Some happy endings are happy because bio family was cut off. I’m here for that.
Writing was great smexy was yum and I love the found family.

A slow burn romance between the Lincoln Knights captain Matty and his new manny Harper. Matty is in overhead trying to find the balance of being the captain of the Lincoln Knights and a full-time parent to his adorable toddler Jack. Mattys' need for perfection has made his not an easy boss to work for, which has led him to lose many people at this point. When Harper applies for the job, Matty knows he is the right man, even if he has issues allowing all his trust into the man. What makes this story so believable is the relationship of Matty and Hannah, Jacks mother. Hannah is one of those people who doesn't want to be a full-time parent yet is supportive and helps in any way she is able. For me that is realistic, not everyone is meant to be a full-time parent, she is not made to be a villain, she in fact helps and supports Matty in his choices, while putting him in his place when his temper gets in the way.
The two have an immediate attraction, so they try to put this to the side, yet they are made to be so they eventually do allow their true feelings out. Enjoyed what could have been a higher angst story, was actually done in a tastefully done low angst build up to something real. Was nice to see past couples from this, and other worlds appear throughout the story. No previous reading is necessary, but it is always nice to know where these cameos are coming from.

I adored this book. They are both the sweetest and a little awkward 😂
This is a single dad x nanny romance so we have an element of the forbidden which means they both tread carefully when they realise there is sexual chemistry between them. Not that they resist for too long!!
This is still low angst and full of swoon, I feel we are really getting to know the whole rugby team now and I love seeing this group as a collective.
There is some great rep in here of co-parenting and postnatal depression and hypermobility.
The relationship dynamics made it such an interesting read, I couldn’t put it down.

I loved this! It was a squishy, lovely low angst book that I needed to read when I did. Matty and Harper are wonderful characters, but let's be honest - Jack stole every scene he was in. The disability rep was done really well; I appreciated the author's note at the end that tied in to it. I also really (really) appreciated that Jack's mom was not made out to be a villain, and was a wonderful character. Also, I'm a former rugby player, and the actual rugby in this book made me so happy!! I very much need to go back and read the first couple of books in this series to get the other guys' stories, because I know I'll really enjoy them.

Burn the house down with the heat between these two!! Single dad looking for a nanny, he’s a rugby player and over protective issue, in need of someone to handle him. This was so sweet.
Matty hadn't been in a relationship in a long time and he didn't want to start one with his manny. But you can't choose who you fall for.
Harper was a such a cute guy and he knew that if he gave in to his attraction to Matty his job would be in jeopardy. But, once more, the heart is to stubborn and wants what is wants.
I really liked them together, they made a very good couple, they didn't want to give up on each other so they came up with solutions to prevent that from happening

If you're looking for a heartwarming, medium-burn romance, " The Scrum Half " will more than satisfy your cravings. This MM romance tells the story of Matty, a gruff, no-nonsense rugby captain who carries the weight of being both a single dad and a leader on the field. His world is turned upside down when Harper, his son’s kind-hearted and fiercely independent nanny, enters his life and begins to soften his hardened edges.

Matty, the epitome of the "grumpy" trope, fits every bit of the rugged Rugby captain personality, but what truly makes him shine is how the author reveals his vulnerabilities. As a single dad, he's emotionally scarred, cautious about trusting others with his son, and perhaps even more hesitant about letting someone into his heart. His tough exterior is built around years of managing expectations, both in rugby and in his personal life. The slow unravelling of his emotional walls is genuinely touching.

Harper, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air. He’s patient, empathetic, and unafraid of Matty’s grumpy demeanour. But don’t mistake his kindness for weakness—he’s strong and self-assured. Harper’s ability to connect with Matty's son, Jack, combined with his quiet but growing feelings for the intimidating rugby captain, makes him an incredibly compelling character. His inner strength contrasts beautifully with Matty’s more outwardly strong presence, creating a delightful dynamic between them.
The chemistry between Matty and Harper is like a slow, simmering fire that builds over time. At first, Matty is clearly resistant to his attraction toward Harper—he’s not used to being vulnerable or needing anyone, let alone falling for someone so integral to Jack’s life. Meanwhile, Harper is caught between his professional boundaries and the growing, undeniable connection he feels with Matty.
The pacing of their relationship feels just right. It's a medium burn, with plenty of tender moments that build up to a satisfying, if not entirely unexpected, climax. The moments they share—whether it’s a late-night conversation or an unexpected act of kindness—are filled with genuine emotion. There’s a palpable tension, and the eventual payoff is incredibly rewarding.
One of the book’s strongest themes is the complexity of fatherhood. Matty’s devotion to Jack is unwavering, and it’s clear that his little boy is the centre of his world. His hesitancy in letting anyone close to Jack—especially a man who might eventually leave—adds layers of depth to his character. The way Matty grows throughout the story, learning to trust Harper not only with his heart but with his son, is beautifully portrayed.

The dynamic between Matty, Jack and Harper is heartwarming. The little boy is a star in his own right, and the bond between the nanny and his charge is precious. It’s one of those sweet subplots that adds authenticity to the romance while reminding us of the importance of family.
The dialogue is sharp and witty when it needs to be and deeply moving when it matters. The emotional beats are balanced with humour and lightness, making the story feel genuine and not heavy. While the setting might be a bit stereotypical (rugby captain falling for the nanny) and the story not too deep, the author elevates it with nuanced characters and real emotional stakes.
" The Scrum Half " is a low angst, well-crafted MM romance that delivers the perfect balance of sweetness and steam. Matty and Harper’s journey is one of healing, learning to trust, and navigating the complexities of love and parenthood. If you enjoy stories where love grows slowly and naturally, and you're a fan of the grumpy/sunshine trope, this is a book you’ll want to check out.

ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lincoln Knights book 3 gives us single dad to two (almost three) year old Jack & team captain of the Lincoln Knights Matty's story and Harper, the last-chance nanny Matty hires after his overbearing and particular ways have driven away every other nanny before. These two have a bit of a bumpy start thanks to Mattys ways but Harper isn't afraid to call him on his BS which Matty comes to appreciate, as time goes on their attraction towards each other grows but can their budding relationship withstand the power imbalance created when you start hooking up with your boss/employee?

Mattys character in regards to his anxiety and feelings of inadequacy surrounding parenthood is really relatable and those anxieties manifesting in his helicopter parenting tendencies tracks. Jack is one of the more realistic almost 3yos I've seen written in a while, I too have an incident involving a child who stripped themselves down and smeared themselves with a substance just before we were meant to leave the house so I feel Mattys pain. Harper shows understanding and patience with Matty whilst also not allowing himself to be walked all over and sets firm boundaries in regards to how he expects to be treated. The romance between them develops naturally for the most part but there was an element of insta-lust to it as the change in their dynamic seemed to happen a bit abruptly for me, the spice was great with some good dirty talk sprinkled in and the found family/close friendship group vibes from the Lincoln Knights team were once again present.

I'm enjoying reading a series set in the UK written by an English author as the setting, slang, overall vibes of the characters personalities etc feel right, they feel genuinely British and that is refreshing in comparison to some of the British settings/characters I've read by authors from other countries where for whatever reason it's just a bit off. This is a great addition to this low angst MM series filled with diverse, interesting characters and stories that highlight support and acceptance really well. Book releases 10th July! 🌶🌶

"He was Jack's nanny, my fucking employee, and completely off-limits, Except my brain had decided to exercise free will and ignore the mental barrier I'd tried to put around Harper because it knew the guy who'd erected it was full of shit and wasn't going to do a damn thing to stop it."

"Now I'd had a taste, I knew I'd want more.
It was like when I opened a punnet of fresh strawberries-it was impossible to only have one. Especially not when the rest of them were just there, waiting.
I leant down and kissed him, revelling in the taste of his satisfaction. There was no way I was going to listen to my worries now. Temptation had won, andit was too de- licious to ignore."

"Watching my son dragging around an enormous toy plague doctor was definitely a new experience, but it just confirmed that I was probably raising a tiny goth. I'd already put money on the idea Jack would want to be a plague doctor for Halloween, and that was going to be a fun one to explain to the nursery staff."

Matty is struggling to raise his two year old son Jack, alone. He is such a control freak he has difficulties retaining the service of any Nanny due to his need to micromanage the care of his son. When Nanny number 8 walks out he is desperate, he needs to get down to the Training Fields with his team, the Lincoln Knights Rugby Union Team where he is Captain. Luckily the Nanny Service manage to find a last minute replacement.

Harper was about to take a little break Nannying but accepted the last minute booking. When Matty opens the door and sees the gorgeous tall guy, with long blond hair, and painted nails he is blown away, not easy to do when you’re a hefty Scrum Half on your Rugby Team. Reading through Harper’s resume and seeing all his degrees for various. childcare skills he offers him the job immediately. Harper is delighted and more so when he sees his live-in accommodations consists of a bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom and living space on the top floor, all to himself.

It’s doesn’t take long for Matty to start micromanaging despite all Harper’s qualifications, matters comes to a head when Matty comes home and sees a plaster on Jack’s hand. He freaks out and the scene is actually quite hilarious. It is one of many such events that has Matty and Harper locking horns, with Harper doing it is such a nice way that Matty doesn’t realise how he’s being romanced by the gorgeous Harper. It doesn’t take Matty long to cave in to his sweet ways.

The mother of Jack, an ultra smart business woman, only visits each month, but calls quite frequently from various locations round the world, wherever her job takes her. She loves her son but Matty has full custody. She does play an important role when the possibility of a serious legal situation is brought to their attention.

There is lots to keep your interest and engagement in this story with many interesting characters on this Rugby Team, plenty of sassy banter, plus an interesting club of Drag Queens, some of whom have boyfriends on the Lincoln Knight Team.

Harper has a medical condition ‘hypermobility’ which affects his lower limbs, and is described well here. I’d never heard of it before.
I was happy to see that there didn’t appear to be any hassle about gay team members and having to hide ‘in the closet’, maybe because the setting in the UK made a difference. The camaraderie on the team and their support for Matty gives a warm fuzziness and the chemistry between Harper and Matty offers all the feels and steam off the pitch.

This is a series of 4 books and ‘Scrum Half is no. 3, I’m going to read the two earlier ones next and the 4th one is due in Autumn 2025.

I received an ARC copy of ‘The Scrum Half’ and this is my unbiased review, offered voluntarily.

I am usually not a fan of single dad tropes just because it’s not well written but geez, Charlie knew how to do it. I fell in love with Harper, Jack and Matty from the moment I started this book.

I loved the whole mental health rep and it was written so well with Harper’s hypermobility. Also, I loved how Matty was so caring towards Harper or how he wanted to spoil him, like c’mon, who doesn’t want to be spoiled.

Jack was so entertaining and he was so fun. Heck, the first chapter starts with little Jack covered in Nutella and Cheerios when Matty is ready to leave the house. Man, he certainly had to tread water with that one so he didn’t get anything white covered. Priceless.

Matty and Harper together are perfection. First off, I love how Harper immediately tells Matty he knows what he is doing and won’t take his crap. Freaking love it so much. Matty is just not used to this and it’s one of the reasons he falls for Harper. The dynamic between them was perfection.

I also loved how real this felt because Harper was so scared for his career. When Hannah came up with the perfect idea, I loved her even more.

The spice scenes were so good and the caretaking was so good. I really loved how Matty got the cushion for Harper during that one scene. Steamy and caring all in one scene… who would have thought?!

All in all, I loved this book from the way that they get together, the cutest little boy, the found family and man, the teammates was so good. I really loved how Matty learned the parenting of a three year old with the help of Harper. This was such an amazing emotional roller coaster and I was here for it. I only wanted more from these two and cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐.5 / 5 (rounded up)
Spice: 🌶️.5 / 5

Matty and Harper are pretty adorable, ngl. This contemporary single dad/nanny romance has a professional rugby backdrop with a bunch of fun, supportive, and shit-talking side characters. It’s low angst with some steamy spicy scenes.

I love the parent and hypermobility representation here. It made the story feel both relatable and human. I definitely chuckled more than once at Jack’s antics (and the resultant exasperation and adoration from Matty). And the pressure Matty puts on himself to be an amazing parent? Ooof. So felt.

This is a quick, easy, happy read. Harper is a delightful sunshine character because, despite his optimism and sunny personality, he’s tough as nails underneath. He takes no shit and doesn’t back down when he shouldn’t. Since I find many sunshine characters are often also portrayed as meek or soft spoken, I appreciated how competent, strong, and confident Harper was.

And Matty? Well, it’s so easy to root for him to find his HEA. The banter with his rugby teammates made it clear how valued he is as a leader and human. The random scenes with these side characters were honestly some of my favorites.

I did want more from the romance at times. The switch from Matty being a “dragon” and difficult to manage as an employer to he and Harper not being able to keep their hands off each other felt abrupt. I still devoured this story super quick, though!

I absolutely love this author and this series so I don’t want this rating to throw anyone off, this particular one just didn’t hit as much as the others in the series for me but I did still enjoy it.

I know Charlie’s books are pretty low angst, but I was craving more angst with this one. Matty has gone through so many nanny’s and he’s portrayed as such a difficult parent to work with I just wanted more head butting between him and Harper. They had a few moments but it starts to smooth over too quickly for me as they start to act on their mutual attraction. I would have loved to see Matty’s growth in this regard be a little harder, though it was fun to see Harper professionally put him in his place.

Matty is a wonderful dad and I liked the storyline of his co-parenting with Hannah. I found it so honest and real. I loved that dynamic and how they both worked everything out to everyone’s benefit and what they could handle and were willing to do.

Harper has the patience of a saint. Loved his relationship with Jack. He has a huge heart and I loved how he gave his all with him. He superbly handled overbearing Matty and kept his cool!

Matty and Harper are very cute together, loved the spice and I liked how Harper was taller than Matty. With him being a rugby player I we all would assume the opposite. It was nice for the non athlete to gaze down at his athlete love interest lol.

Jack absolutely was a main character all of his own. He was hilarious and well written. I enjoyed him a lot.

I enjoyed the team and how they came together to help Matty with this relationship and I hope the glimpse we got for the next book is who I think it’s is cause it’s got to be hilarious and I’m looking forward to laughing through it!

Scrum-Half by Charlie Novak, The Lincoln Knights book 3.
I cannot express how eagerly and impatiently I've been awaiting this book! And how sad I was, once I finished, that there was no more book. Matty, the Lincoln Knights team captain, single dad, and permanently exhausted pigeon. Matty is struggling and trying his hardest to maintain control. He has not been able to retain a nanny due to a not great attitude, and micro management. Enter Harper, highly educated, dedicated nanny, joints of bubblegum, spine of steel. Jack is a very adorable and determined 2 year old. Poor Harper is very aware of Matty's attractiveness from their first meeting.
Harper won't let Mattys poor behaviour go unchallenged. Mutual attraction from the start, builds to mutual connection and affection. The awareness they have have of potential pitfalls of seeingg your boss/employee doesn't stop Matty and Harper. Thank goodness, cause they are wonderful together. Matty and Harper give each other something they were searching for, and help each other be happy. The issues are handled carefully. I can't help but think, that being Captain for the Lincoln Knights has helped prepare Matty for parenting a toddler. There are so many wonderful details in this book, Jacks nails matching Hannah's, Harper's sisters and their relationship, Harper's Hypermobility (what do mean forcing your body beyond it's limits is a bad idea, and has consequences?) I could continue to gush. With Hannah, I loved seeing a different depiction of parenthood, and Hannah pursuing her career and working on her relationship with Jack. I adore visiting with Charlie's characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and all the characters in it. Charlie has done excellent job with storytelling and writing amazing characters. I loved both the main characters - Harper and Matty but Jack (Matty’s son) stole my heart with his questions, wittiness and sassy attitude. Matty is caring, responsible, kind and overall a good person. Matty has his flaws like him being overprotective of Jack and not asking for help when he is overwhelmed or showing his vulnerability. Harper on the other hand is the definition of sunshine. Harper is kind, compassionate, loving, caring and an amazing nanny. He understands Matty’s struggles as a parent but he also doesn’t let Matty’s overprotective tendencies slide. Harper sees Matty as more than a father or rugby player or a captain. Harper is exactly what Matty needed in his life and Matty is exactly what Harper was looking for in his life. Matty is super caring, accommodating and understanding towards Harper when it comes to their relationship. Their relationship started slow but once they acted on their attraction towards each other, things moved fast. They had few hurdles that they had to overcome but they did so with open communication and understanding. They make a lovely couple who fit together perfectly. I will absolutely recommend this book if you are looking for your next MM romance book with a sweet storyline and amazing characters.

I love a single dad romance and Matty and Harper's story is really a great one.

Matty is the nightmare for every nanny and is nearly blacklisted by the agency. His overbearing need for control is causing significant issues but no nanny also doesn't work.

The story starts with most parent's nightmare early in the morning. I think I haven't started a book and had tears in my eyes laughing before this one.

Charlie Novak did her research and managed to create the perfect toddler.
Jack steals the show from the first page, he is the perfect mix of mischief, funny, curious and loving.

Harper definitely has a spine of steel, he understands Matty but he is no doormat and pushs back against Matty's control. he is a really loveable character, has his hopes and dreams, a great family. And he is exactly the person Matty needs.

There are reasons for Matty's control issues and it's great to see him changing and also putting his needs out as well, not just being the dad and the captain but also realising that he is lonely and wants to be loved.

The boss/employee or dad/nanny thrope is not one of my favourites as the power play can go seriously wrong and I think Matty acted without thinking first.

But I love how he made clear what Harper means to him when confronted and that the small drama was dealt with by the adults behaving like responsible ones.

Seeing the queens from The Court again was great and the Knights are again just a great accepting, helpful and supporting team, even if they can't help but pushing their captain once in a while.

I've really enjoyed this spin off series. But this is my favorite of the lot- so far.

Why? Well, I feel like Matty is an adult with his %^*& together. He owns a house, he has a son, he's the captain, he doesn't have 2 other roommates, etc. He's had a rough go as a single dad and I was so happy to see him get his happily ever after.

And while he is the grown up in the room, Matty still has issues. Mostly because he is THAT DAD who doesn't think anyone is good enough to care for his son. Even the fully vetted professional nannies he gets from an agency. None of them last very long with his nonsense. Then he gets Harper, who is absolutely perfect for the job until Matty almost ruins it again.

Matty and Harper find a balance eventually, with the adorable Jack center stage. But they have chemistry that is hard to deny, which is going to be a problem in the long run.

The other books in the series seemed to involve a lot of the players in different capacities. They were friends or roommates or whatever. But this one really put the focus on Matty and Harper, which I thoroughly enjoyed. And while there was rugby (duh) time was spent in the family suite during games which was fun and a different dynamic. I appreciated that the rugby wives didn't treat Harper like a shiny new toy. Young, gay, nanny and all that.

Being that this is a classic Charlie Novak happily ever after, they do get there. I wondered how it would happen and I was pleased with the outcome.

Must read for the Charlie fan.

**4.5**
I adore this series, each book is so entertaining and offers something new. Scrum Half is for Matty, captain of the Knights and single dad to Jack. Matty finally accepts that he needs help, and though he's on his last chance, he takes a nanny via the agency. Harper is more than Matty could have hoped for, especially when it comes to Jack but what's best is how he's not afraid to stand up to Matty and his overbearing ways.
Harper is a sweetheart who really knows his stuff when it comes to childcare, and who can deny the cuteness of Jack, but he also can't deny himself when it comes to the hunk that is Matty. They have a great chemistry and get along so well, once Matty gets his head out of his backside and trusts that Jack is safe with Harper.
I really enjoyed how open to everything Matty was, no dilemma or overthinking everything. It's also so great to read a co-parenting relationship that works so well and has a positive influence on everyone. Hannah is a great character with her own story to tell that was interesting, though slightly sad for a moment. The Knights, as a whole, are such a supportive group of guys. Yea, there is the teasing that's pretty much mandatory in team sport but when it comes down to it and Matty needs help, they are all there with advice.
Another must read from Charlie Novak, and I love the moments we get with some of the characters from previous books in the series. Looking forward to the next one already!
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

✎ The Scrum half is the third book in the 𝕃𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕠𝕝𝕟 𝕜𝕟𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 𝕊𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕤.I love this book,It’s basically about a single dad and rugby captain who is finding it difficult to juggle his career and taking care of his adorable 3 year old son.and because of his grumpiness and overbearing attitude (which stems from his love for his son and wanting the best for him)towards his nannies, they tend to quit on him, until he met the nanny whose all sunshine but won’t put up with his “grumpiness” and will call him out on his sh*t.

✎ Harper and Matty had a connection from the first moment they met,the chemistry was there and as the got to know each other it became apparent that they cared and respected each other and they both wanted wants best for Jack.I love the way they prepared before breaking the news about their relationship to Jack,it meant they cared about his well being and mental health.

✎ I love that the book talked about Hannah’s struggles with being a parent and her perinatal depression,I know she was not a major character but I was so glad this topic was brought up.

✎ I loved every character in the book so I will definitely go back and read book 1 and two before the book 4 comes out, because I love the rugby team and the family kind of friendship they have.It was all love, respect, care,Kindness and warmth

This is book three of the Lincoln Knights series. I had not read the first two, and did not feel lost. The story centers around single parent Matty and his precious 3-year-old son, Jack. Being a Rugby captain and major caretaker for this toddler leaves Matty exhausted and frustrated. He is upset with himself for not being the perfect father. His ex is a good friend, but prefers her work even though she genuinely loves Jack. Matty isn't bitter as he likes being the primary parent.

Matty tends to micromanage all of his son's nannies, and they leave. The agency has one last recommendation. Matty is aware he is difficult, but a combination of guilt and worry makes him a challenging boss.

Enter Harper, a blond, cheerful, and excellent nanny. Despite Harper's wonderful qualifications, Matty slips back into his bad, old habits, and Harper is close to quitting.

I enjoyed the family dynamics. And how far Matty grew in the story. He struggles, but recognizes his flaws. Harper gets under his skin with his sunshine-like personality, and before long, there is a major ethical question. Can an employer be romantically involved with his hire?

An overall sweet story that hinted at some conflict, but it was quickly resolved. I might not revisit the story, but I do recommend this no-angst and fluffy romance. Happy reading.
