Nellie Abrams can hog-tie a pig and outwork any ranch hand, but she’s after more than chores and chaos; she wants a love that sees her strength and spirit. When a mail-order match arrives, she dares to believe the unknown might just be everything she’s dreamed of.
Widowed rancher Peter Cosgrove juggles twin mischief-makers, a struggling ranch, and far too many burned breakfasts. Quiet and kind, he’s not just looking for help; he’s hoping for a partner who brings laughter, warmth, and love back into his home.
Their connection is instant, but their expectations couldn’t be more different. Nellie’s ready to saddle up beside him; Peter’s determined to shield her from hardship. As they navigate misunderstandings and growing affection, will they learn to meet in the middle, or will they risk losing the love neither of them expected but both have begun to cherish?
"An Unconventional Mail-Order Match" is a historical romance novel of approximately 60,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
As a Christian author myself, I was caught up in the flow of the story. I related to Nellie and the fact she loved working outdoors. Changing folks attitudes and relying on the Lord are real challenges then and now! Thank you Lilah for a fun read!
No lies in this mail-order match, just a woman delightfully unconventional and raised like a son. Oh, she knew how to act the part of a woman when she had to, but the truth is she lived for the ranch work alongside her father, and now her new husband. It's a marvelous thing to watch her husband learn to take his cues from her; he wants her to be happy, wants her to love her new home. The only thing standing in the way is a persistent, aching homesickness. It’s an unusual take on a mail-order bride story, and a refreshing one. And truly, if everyone looked at life with the practicality and clear-eyed joy that Nellie does, we would all be a lot happier.
Was a good book. A woman decides to try for a mail order bride. She is considered too outspoken and outgoing to be a genteel wife. She matches up with a widower with twin sons who are a handfull. Her new in-laws and husband have a hard time accepting her personality. In time people see she is just the kind of wife and mother the ranch needs.
This is a great western romance. I loved that it focused more on everyday family life with two rambunctious little boys. These little boys seemed to have very developed vocabularies for seven-year-olds. I loved watching the relationships develop between the characters as well. This was a very entertaining book and I must admit, the further I got in this book the more my housework was neglected.
Liked the story. Not a fan of modern day problems inserted in the story. Pretty sure that pioneer some worked right along the men. Not sure about the traditional roles the book tries to overcome.
This was a great story that touched your heart. Nellie was ready for marriage but was afraid a new hubby wouldn’t let her continue working outside like her dad did. After much talking and teasing Peter let her work outside . They fell in love snd all was great.
A very enjoyable story, bringing to different personalities together. They have arguments and fun ways at bridging the gap. They're commitment to putting the family first is very sweet 💕
Peter and his twin sons start a new family when Nellie arrives as Peter's mail-order-bride. They struggle to get to know each other, and the twins struggle the idea of having a new mother. This is a sweet story that is full of family and love.
The characters were well developed and believable. The storyline showed an interesting approach to forward thinking individuals in a time when you wouldn’t expect it, but it likely occurred.
I really enjoyed this book! Great story and it really makes you rethink what is important in our lives! I so look forward to more great stories from this author!
