44 books29 followersCharles L. "Chip" Bell, Jr., lives in the City of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Linda, is the father of two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, and is a practicing attorney specializing in personal injury litigation, with his main office in Arnold, Pennsylvania.
Born on February 23, 1950, in Harrison Township, Pennsylvania, he grew up in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Tarentum High School in 1968, attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, from 1968 to 1972, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974, attended Duquesne University School of Law from 1975 to 1979, and graduated Cum Laude. He practiced law as a personal injury trial attorney with the law firm of Rosenberg, Sewak, Pizzi and Bell from 1979 to 2002, and thereafter as a sole practitioner up to and including the present date.
He is a member of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (formerly the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association) and has served on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association from 1988 to 1990. He is also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and served on the Board of Governors in 1988. He is a founder and past president of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Southwestern Pennsylvania, a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
He is the author of the Jake Sullivan series of novels, the first of which, Come Monday, was published in June of 2011, and the second, Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season, in October 2011. His third novel, Havana Daydreamin', was released in April 2012. His fourth novel, A Pirate Looks at Forty.has just been published as of June 2, 2014.

One Particular Harbor by Chip bell is a murder mystery that takes place on an exotic tropical island. Trouble seems to be Jake Sullivan’s middle name and it will find him, even on a working vacation. I look forward to island hopping on another Jake Sullivan adventure.
I have seen the sunset on the cover, I have swam in the salty blue water and sat under a tropical palm tree on a beautiful beach in the Virgin Islands. I have even had a cocktail at Pussers Landing in Tortola, so the location lends an aura of familiarity to me as I read along.
Jake is a Chief Federal Prosecutor of the Miami Office of the Justice Department. Even the President of the United States calls on him to solve some of the most difficult cases. It is not surprising that he has made some enemies and that they will occasionally rise up and bite him in the ass.
It begins the first night he is there. He is being set up, framed, for the murder of a prominent businessman. He trusts his secretary, Eva, and best friend, Mike, and will need them to help him keep from being convicted of a murder he did not commit.
Is it personal? Is it political? Is it payback?
I knew what would happen from the beginning, but not how. It didn’t matter to me. I love mysteries and Chip Bell’s writing kept the story flowing at a steady clip, every once in a while making me want to shout out to Jake…take Mike, don’t go there…
I love the closeness and camaraderie between Jake, Eva and Mike, also some of the peripheral characters. It is nice to have friends that will go the distance and Mike goes above and beyond the bonds of friendship.
One Particular Harbor by Chip Bell is a perfect summer read, whether you are at the beach or hanging around the patio. It is a quick and easy read that will keep you entertained and wondering what Jake Sullivan’s next tropical adventure will be and where will occur. I’ll be there, will you?.

A Pirate Looks at Forty by Chip Bell
This is the fourth Chip Bell book I have read and the best so far. Bell is maturing as a writer and his character interaction is even better in this book than the last. This is another Jake Sullivan novel. Jake and his "sidekick" Mike are pulled into another international thriller by an act of piracy in Jake's domain of south Florida.
The plot in this novel is introduced by a couple of chapters of seemingly unconnected historic anecdotes. As the book progresses you realize the foundation of the plot was laid out in the historic perspectives.
Somewhat reminiscent of Clive Cussler, the mystery within mystery is captivating. Jake and Mike's interaction provide an admirable camaraderie.
Once again, Bell does a very good job combining current events with a fictional thriller. In this case the hopes for peace in the Middle East and the recognition that other countries have the same fractional divides that our nation faces.
I recommend the book.

Jake Sullivan has been kidnapped and framed for murder in the U.S Virgin Islands. Why would someone frame Jake though? Does being the Chief Federal Prosecutor in Miami have anything to do with it?
Although the U.S Virgin Islands seem like paradise, it is definitely turning to hell for Jake. Luckily, he has friends in high and secret places. Jake’s best friend and chief investigator, Mike Lang, travels to the islands to convince and clear Jake on charges of murder.
My favorite character, Lou Caravaggio, is the type of friend every person wants and needs. Lou is a bartender who knows virtually everyone on the U.S and British Virgin Islands. He enlists the help of U.S Navy Seals and an MI6 agent from the likes of dangerous men. But Jake never saw one such dangerous man so close to him. This book is so thrilling that not even television shows or movies can compare to it.

Another great book from Chip Bell. I recently finished Book 4 of the Jake Sullivan novels, which I fully enjoyed, but this one was even better! Kidnapping, murder, and many twists and turns. I see anyone and everyone enjoying this book. It's an easy read and definitely keeps you engaged. I like how the book pauses and keeps you informed of where everything is taking place, it helps you get a better understanding about what is going on. After reading two of Bell's books I can't wait to read all of the others.

Great read; this is the second book I have read in the Jake Sullivan series. I enjoyed it just as much as the first. Lots of twists and turns and humor as well which all make for a great mystery. As with the first book you learn a little more about the characters as you read through each story. I will be reading the others books as well.

I was so surprised by the final twist!
This exciting story in paradise was non-stop action and treachery. Suspenseful, and a bit of snarky humor, keep the pages turning without pause. Well done!

Each Jake Sullivan gets better and better. One of those books I didn't want to put down. Action and adventure. Mystery. Life at it's ugliest. But justice prevails. Thanks Chip!
