I’ve never been sure why I’m such a disappointment to my father, but since my mother passed when I was born, he’s all the family I have, so of course I’ve always dreamed of being able to finally make him love me.

Yeah… this one didn’t really work for me. The smut was actually really well done (like expected) visually hot and paced nicely, but I just couldn’t feel any of it because I didn’t connect to the characters at all. Like, I wasn’t rooting for them, I wasn’t invested in their dynamic and honestly… I didn’t even find them all that interesting. They kind of just existed on the page for me, but nothing stuck.
The story itself also didn’t catch me. It felt like it was trying to do something emotional or intense, but I stayed pretty unaffected the whole time. And I know this is a weird nitpick, but the use of “baby” as a pet name just threw me off completely, don’t ask me why, I usual find it fine but here it just didn’t land for me at all.
I can totally see why some people might enjoy it but for me, without that emotional pull or connection to the leads, even the good smut wasn’t enough to carry it.

4.5 stars. I am a huge fan of praise in romances so when I saw the title for this week’s story it was pretty much an auto buy. I read the blurb and knew I had to get it! I’m so glad I did because overall I really enjoyed this book!
I loved the concept of this one with the estranged uncle saving his nephew from his father. The uncle (Bastian) does start off as a complete asshole and it was hard to like him. It made sense for him with the business. I got it. But with his conquests and even how he thought of his nephew (Seth) before he got involved with him wasn’t great. But thankfully he changes and once he realizes how much Seth needs the praise everything Bastian does is for Seth. It was amazing!
There was one scene I absolutely loved where Seth starts bawling and Bastian asks him what’s wrong and Seth says “Nothing” and that’s why he’s crying because for once he’s ok. And it was just so powerful. And I loved how he could just let go when he was with Bastian!
If you’re a fan of this author I definitely recommend this one!

I quite liked this - I liked the idea of a rich protective, previously unknown uncle ready to jump in and protect his nephew from the world. I sort of expected the father to also be in on it, perhaps an asshole because he had secretly liked the brother not the sister? But no, the father is actually just an awful person. The uncle is sort of an awful person as well, but I guess he's at least sincere in love unlike the father?

Um you know what it kinda makes sense that Merrick didn’t want Bastian anywhere near Seth if that’s what he did in less than 24 hours but 💀. I think Seth’s innocence makes it feel a little more icky as well somehow? I didn’t know it was incest when I started reading it but I don’t want to rate it low just because it’s not really my cup of tea so it gets a solid 3 stars like most novellas because the pacing is always weird ahahah

The second half of this book was SO much better than the first, which felt like it was just trying to do too much. But once we got there, amazing! Their relationship was sweet and hot and everything I was looking for.
