Suu Mar and Ko Tuu are middle ones among four children of their family. Eldest daughter is much older than them and, is a medical student. So, their father, who is also a doctor, favors her. She is also close with their mother. On the other hand, the youngest is 6 years junior to the duo and is getting all the attention. Only Suu Mar and Ko Tuu feel left out and neglected by their parents. As they are only one year apart from each other, they played together and entertained themselves in their own little world making some troubles from time to time. With strict restrictions, blames, and negligence, "voids" are formed in the hearts of these two children.
This is a story of a family where feelings of middle children are depicted. The writer seems to want to give message to parents about different parenting styles. Other than that, it is a predictable story with un-original concepts and dialogues. Some minor gender-stereotyping can be found here and there in the parenting, which I don't think is part of the message. So, the writer seems to think it is normal. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable and quick read (if you don't mind the conservative tone of the writer).
I can't tell how much I loved this book. I read it when I was a kid and remember I bawled my eyes out. She is an awesome author and I can really relate to most of her characters but this one. It is my all time favorite of Ma San Dar
