If you're the parent of an intensely emotional, meltdown-prone, and wildly creative child who “holds it together” in public but unravels at home, you’re not alone—and more importantly, you’re not failing.

• Why traditional parenting advice fails 20% of kids—and what works instead • How to differentiate your child’s sensitive nature from other neurodivergent diagnoses • The Resilience Rewiring Protocol™ to stop shutdowns and outbursts fast • How to lead with playful structure without coddling or walking on eggshells • How to spot and transform the hidden triggers that sabotage your child’s growth
Written with fierce compassion and strategic clarity, this book speaks directly to high-achieving parents who are tired of parenting on hope and guesswork. If you're ready to raise a self-assured, emotionally intelligent child—without burning out—Rewire Your Sensitive Child’s Brain is your must-have manual.
Let’s break the cycle and build a future where your sensitive child thrives.
This is the most helpful book I’ve read on high sensing, or highly sensitive children. It is easy to read and very conversational. The author, Megghan Thompson, spends the majority of the book helping parents understand high sensitivity as a God-given temperament. She explores the intersectionality of high sensitivity with various neurodivergent traits as well as trauma since all three of these can go hand-in-hand. The book is well supported and evidence based, and Thompson has years of experience working with HSCs and their parents and families.
I like that she developed a framework for the parent to understand their child and the “why” behind the behavior before giving a concrete map for addressing the meltdown cycle. When the practical part comes in chapters 12-18, you are well prepared and encouraged to engage with your child in a helpful way. She teaches you step by step how to help your child slow down, engage some of their rational brain and make a resilient choice.
It is a parent training manual- not a “fix your kid” manual. As parents we spend the most time with our kids, and we have the most impact on their growth and healing. Sometimes we make parenting decisions that don’t compute for a highly sensitive child. Thompson calls this out in a direct and helpful way, free from shame.
It is truly a groundbreaking book. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it needs some editing. For example: in part 3, the practical part of the book, she outlines 6-steps the parent will take. Each step is its own chapter, but the chapter headings don’t have the same phrases and don’t line up with the steps, so it is confusing which step she is talking about. She also uses ellipses frequently, and some of the graphs and diagrams don’t line up with what is being discussed. They are small things, but I noticed them frequently throughout the book.
A friend let me borrow this book because I think Simon is an HSC. Maybe not to the extent this book outlines, but definitely has traits and behaviors that present this way. It was really helpful and practical. It also confirmed some of my parenting strategies I already implement like validating emotions. She explains how important that is for all humans and clarifies that validation doesn’t equal acceptance of behavior. As with most parenting books, everything starts with the parent’s mindset work. lol. Would recommend to any parent esp if your kid has big feelings/big melt downs etc., or educator/person who works with children (we’ve definitely taught many HSC).
Parents of highly sensitive kids you must read this book. It is eye opening to learn how to parent these type of children and understand them better. Making these changes has been very successful for our family!
This book along with Megghan Thompsons online class has given me hope in raising a highly sensitive daughter. I was crying daily and feeling so lost on how to help my daughter manage her big feelings and complete meltdowns. This has given me knowledge and understanding and also tools to implement that have already started working after just a couple days. I just wish I had had this earlier!
