My name is Kierra, and my entire life fell apart during my first, and last, high school party.
If I’d never let Mom talk me into going out, maybe I wouldn’t have lost my normal life. Maybe Mom would still be here.
That same night, everything else went wrong. Everywhere I went lights flickered, and the shadows stalked me. The final straw was being dragged into a world of magic, and horror. This world is ruled by the powers of light and darkness, my greatest fear. My only chance to get home is to take control of my terror, literally.
Not only am I trapped in a new world, but I’m stuck between two my oldest childhood friend that I’ve been in love with forever and feels like safety and home, or a magic-wielding immortal who empowers me and sees my weaknesses as beauty.
Can I find the strength to bend the darkness to my will, or will the shadows consume me?
The premise of this is great, and I’m definitely hooked on the story! The author advertises this as “Fanta-mance” instead of romantasy because the fantasy comes first, and that definitely comes across. The writing here is also great and especially impressive for an indie author/self publisher (no shade to this author at all, but full shade to some self publishers lol).
I wish the pacing had just been a little different. I honestly think this could have been more than one book, with more depth in certain areas. I wanted to feel more emotional buying to Kael and his city in poverty, for example, before moving on.
