Stacy Claflin writes about complex women overcoming incredible odds. Whether it's her Gone trilogy of psychological thrillers, her ongoing Transformed paranormal saga, or her Seaside Hunters sweet romance series, Stacy's three-dimensional heroines shine through.
Decades after she wrote her first stories on construction paper and years after typing on an inherited green screen computer that weighed half a ton, Stacy realized her dream of becoming a full-time author.
When she's not busy writing or educating her kids from home, Stacy enjoys watching TV shows like Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars, and Once Upon a Time.
Not as good as the first book. This one was filled with teenage angst, but I understand why it was necessary. Hopefully the next one will get more exciting.
I can't believe just about everything in her life was a lie of sum kind. Tanner didn't have 2 die!! He was more of a friend 2 her than anyone at school besides Amanda. Cliff is the best best but he did stupid shit that he should earn back. I don't quite understand why he said about what she did 2 him (at the last part).
For Alexis to grow up some. I have to keep reminding myself she's only 17 and has been through a lot of major changes in just a few short months. As far as Tanner, Cliff, and Alrekur are concerned, I'm not sure I like any of them right now. But we will see how things go in the next book.
Just horrible. How is the lead character the most self-centered, petty, indecisive person in the book! I was really hoping for a transformation in her personality and character with this book, but she’s just as bad a person as she was in the first book.
Loving this story! I have a bit of spoilers since I've read the wolf books that take place after (though my memory is terrible, so the details I remember are pretty hazy), but it's definitely interesting to see how this plot unfolds.
By far my favorite part is the comparison of *sparkling vampires* to real vampires. I laughed too hard. This book has humor, romance, war and so much more to offer!
I read Deception for free and loved it so much I decided to purchase Betrayal! I'm giving this book a 3.5 rating. The book was great in the beginning but by half way through, I feel as though it lost its charm a bit, in my opinion. After Alexis went to Europe with her parents, I found myself missing Delphic Cove along with Tanner, Clara, Amanda and also her human family. It felt as if it completely dropped the characters and the familiarity of Delphic Cove and jumped straight into secrets, plans and missions about the first line of vampires. The story felt different and all the information came too sudden and didn't flow good like I expected it to. I found myself wanting to know more about the werewolves and the connection with Mr. Foley and Cliff's mother, but I didn't get anything. I'm hoping more will unfold in book 3 about those topics. By the way, I was Team Tanner from the beginning and will continue to be even if nothing happens, lol!
I'm cheap when it comes to books and if I love them enough, I'll suck it up and buy more in the series. I do like this series and want to see how it plays out but I think 3.99 is a bit too much for a book like this, honestly. Although I probably will read book 3 because I'm holding out hope that it will unfold some gaps! Overall, great job Stacy!

Betrayal by Stacy Claflin is a Contemporary Young Adult Paranormal Romance. While I both read and write paranormal romances, I don’t typically choose YA novels for my own reading pleasure. I have been known to read them on occasion because I still screen my daughter’s reading choices. I read Claflin’s first book, Deception, because I thought it was something my daughter would enjoy. Betrayal is book two in The Transformed series, and I read it of my own volition because the storyline is captivating and the characters are compelling. If you like teen romances and paranormal thrillers, you’ll love Betrayal.
Betrayal begins where Deception left off. The novel is a self-contained story, but it really would be beneficial if you read part one first. Alexis has been reunited with her family, she has come fully into her powers, and she has learned more about the world she was born into. She goes back to school knowing it won’t be long until she is reunited with her birth parents and can resume the life she was destined to lead as the Sonnast. But she learns that enemies of her parents (who happen to be her parents’ advisors and not coincidentally the parents of her fiancé) are conspiring to wage war against them, and a new teacher at school with an unnatural interest in her seems to be involved in the plot. Complicating matters, vying for her affections is an old boyfriend who is also eligible to marry her and rule at her side.
Before matters grow unmanageable, her parents call her away to be with them. They introduce a third party into the mix, turning her complicated love triangle into a convoluted square. She is both attracted to him and repulsed by his vile nature. Her emotions are a tangled mess, and her mind is trying to make a decision that will avoid a war. She ultimately takes action, thinking she will seal her fate, and that of her people. All these actions lead to a surprise ending, setting up an exciting beginning for book three.
Here is a truncated excerpt from Betrayal: Cliff looked at me as though I had betrayed him. If he thought that was bad, I dreaded his reaction to the news that was yet to come… I was afraid to look at Cliff, but knew that I had to. He looked furious. I'd never seen him so angry. Not even after I told him that I'd kissed Tanner. I thought he might hurt someone. He glared at me. Did you know about the true meaning of the Sonnast? I gulped. I found out when I was in Europe. Like I said, I only want you…
In The Transformed Series, Claflin created a world in Deception that has expanded in Betrayal. The characters are growing and maturing, and in addition to that, we are being introduced to not only new characters but new species of characters. We are being taken out of the main character's hometown and exploring other areas of the world, all of which are in this realm, but some of which are magical and extraordinary. The whole lexicon is expanding and shifting, creating a rich and diverse mythology that is setting up an epic battle in the third book. The plot of this book, like the first one, is self-contained, but there is a cliff-hanger ending leading into the next installment. I can't wait to see what happens, and this isn't even my preferred genre.
There were a few typos, but those are easily overlooked, because you'll be absorbed in the action. Fans of YA Paranormal Romance will want to read this series.
After reading the first book in this series (Deception) and being left on a huge cliff hanger I couldn't wait to read the sequel and see how things played out. Once again Stacy Claflin has engrossed me in her world and kept me transfixed for hours as I couldn't put the book down unless it was imperative.
Betrayal picked up where Deception left off straight away and I was thrown instantly back into Alexis's world. It was great that the story took off so quickly as it captured my interest and didn't relent until the end. One of the issues I had with Deception was there were too many cliches in the romance between Cliff and Alexis and I was pleased to find that all though they are still madly in love their relationship came across more believable and less cheesy. The emotions felt right and it made it easy to relate and sympathise with them. As well as this the love triangle that continued was developed brilliantly and I found that my opinions of the characters have shifted from what I thought of them which is great as it shows Claflin has done a good job in their evolution. The book had its ups and downs in terms of emotions, at some points I was laughing and others I was feeling sad for the characters - I love books that can do that!
Although I didn't feel there was as much action in this book it didn't stop it being interesting and the scenes where there was it was fast paced, tense and described with the senses well. The stroyline continued to be unpredictable like in Deception and filled with twists and turns. I won't reveal who or what is introduced as it will ruin the suspense I felt when reading it for you guys but the characters who come up I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. As well as this they all tie into Alexis's life well and I couldn't fault the structure or plot - it was linked really well and was solid.
When reading Deception, although it was a vampire novel it was still pretty original to me due to the nature of Alexis's change and the vampire hierarchy. For me Betrayal lost some of the originality around the mid-way section with the introduction of a new species which I have read about a lot before. Thankfully though these characters took a back seat in the book and after a few chapters the story picked up again and became unpredictable and original once again. Even though they were less original they were still interesting to read about and it was slightly different so I did enjoy the book regardless.
Overall for me Betrayal bettered Deception and after Claflin left the story on yet another impossible cliff hanger I am dying to find out what happens in book 3 when it's released! I would definitely recommend this series to YA paranormal lovers.
I have been provided with a copy of Betrayal by the author for an impartial review. This is the second book in the Transformed series and it picks up not long after the first book Deception ended. This book was such an easy book to get dragged into. I absolutely love the characters in these books and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
( I received an ecopy of this book. Thanks to Stacy Claffin )
AMAZING book full of surprises!!!! I found the answers to my previous questions but now am left with other new ones. OMG!!!! Such a fantastic book :)
The most funniest part. That I just LOVE!!!!!
Absense makes the heart grow fonder. Clara finds another decendant of William. I hope he is her true love. He might be her destiny.
There were so many surprises in the book. The fact that Alexis was supposed to marry Alrekur surprised me the most.......He is so devious. He just Killed Tanner. But I liked the fight between Alexis and Alrekur.
I'm so excited to read the next book. This is one of the best series I've read and even one of my favourites. I'd surely read this book twice some time soon. Can't wait to find out what happens next........
I was given this book for honest review. 'Betrayal' is the second novel in 'The Transformed' series. Warning - if you haven't read the first book this review may be spoilerish! Alexis is a teenage girl who had her life turned upside down with the revelation that not only was she a vampire of a royal line, but she also has a destiny that is already carved out for her.
As with the first book, it took me a good few chapters to be pulled into the story but once that happened I could not put the book down. 'Betrayal' is quite a bit darker than 'Deception' and there's some brilliant humour brought out of the dark situations. Alexis herself is definitely transforming - she is more confident even to the point of arrogant in a few places. I liked that she wasn't perfect in her behaviour or her choices, it made the whole situation that much more believable.
There is a love triangle that gets a little more complicated in this book. I won't give away the choices she makes here, I will say that both Tanner and Cliff still have very strong feelings for her, and she still loves them both. Personally I thought Tanner was a nice guy, I sympathised easily with him and thought the immature stuff he did was understandable. Cliff on the other hand comes across moody, even a little bit creepy at points, and I'm still not sure what to really make of him.
Alexis' cousin Clara seems to be supporting and even encouraging some of her bad decisions, she's kind of rebellious and I liked her a lot. Brooke wasn't in this as much as she was the first book, but I didn't really miss her.
'Deception' had a few shock twists I didn't see coming, but 'Betrayal' was even more unpredictable and shocking. The twists have been really well plotted, there's no way to predict what they'll be. Alexis is really being messed with and I can't help wondering how it's all going to end, though there's virtually no chance of me figuring it out so I'll just need to wait for book number 3.
These books are highly addictive, recommended reading for fans of YA Fantasy/Paranormal.
This is my second time reading this series, and I definitely have a lot of strife with the series in the earlier books but overall I think that it's not too bad as just a little piece of entertainment. i would say that as the books continue, they progressively get better and more enjoyable. if you're annoyed with how annoying Alexis is in these first two books, keep reading because she quickly leaves her teenage whining behind and grows up.
overall, I think this book is okay. There are many moving parts that have been introduced in these last two books but they all eventually line up.
What I dislike the most about Claflin's writing in these books is that she is not super great with the "showing not telling" aspect of writing. I wish we spent more time learning about each character through their interactions with each other and not just saying stuff like "I spent the last week with ... and learned a lot about vampire history... I really am starting to like her" or whatever that quote is. all I'm trying to say is that I'd like to see more of everyone interacting with each other outside of just these really serious conversations because I don't feel emotionally connected to anyone except Alexis.
also, side note, is it just me or does she never actually give any physical descriptions of these characters aside from "so beautiful" or " most gorgeous man id ever seen". Like hello? what do these people look like ?
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.
If ever you will feel sorry for a character, I can pretty much guarantee that you will feel it for Alexis in Betrayal. As the title states you will not be surprised to find that she will be betrayed but by whom and in what circumstances. This book is a whirlwind of plots within plots, twists, turns, ghosts from the past and fears from the present.
Alexis comes across most of the time as quite level-headed and calm but don't get me wrong, she can also act like a complete spoiled princess too. She insists on going her way on a lot of things which I guess isn't that far removed from pretty much every teenager around.
The characters in this series all have their own strengths and flaws which makes them remarkably human-like for vampires! When you figure out who you can trust please let me know! I have heard this book being likened to Stephanie Meyer's series (as are most YA/Paranormal books it seems!) but honestly, I never saw a comparison when I was reading it. Gripping, enthralling and will keep you engrossed. Definitely recommend this series.
I think this one is better than the first one. The only thing I didn't much care for was the rehashing of stuff that happened before but I guess that needs to be there for those who haven't read the first book or who read it a while back and don't remember.
This one pretty much starts where the other ends and tells about things that happen to Alexis after the transformation to vampire.
There are some interesting things going on. She finds out that there are werewolves still in the world(they have been hiding!), and that her future-mother-in-law is planning a war to get rid of her and her parents so that she can be the queen.
She also finds out that her vampire parents don't really care about her too much...they just want to use her to find their other daughter. So she is basically back to where she started on that.
There is a new centuries old vampire as a love/hate interest and just lots of happenings.
I just want to know what happens next. I figure someone is gonna die...but who?
Stephenie Meyer who?? Forget the "Twilight" series everyone, there's a new vampire in town, and her name is Alexis!
Stacy did an AMAZING job with this series so far - ending this book on a cliff hanger that drove me crazy with curiosity! This book is the follow up to "The Deception," which follows Alexis, a strong willed, independent young woman who is coming in on her own, discovering more about her heritage and, more importantly, the prophecy.
After experiencing a series of incidents that made her feel betrayed and angry by those she loves most she goes and does the unthinkable, and betrays the one she claims to love.
I had a hard time putting this book down, and the only disappointment I had was that it when I finished reading it - all I wanted to do is continue reading the book and find out what happens. I found that the plot line thickened amazingly, captivating readers to want to know what happens. Stacy has an amazing gift for storytelling!
I was really looking forward to reading this book, but I gotta say I liked the first one better. I still really enjoyed this book, but I didn't like how Alexis has changed in this one. She seems a bit stuck up to me now. She seems to think she is better than everyone and is VERY stubborn. She yells and complains that no one will help her or tell her things, but when they try to she doesn't listen and would rather go out and learn them on her own. Tanner and Clara are my favorite characters so far. Alexis and Clara are more like sisters than cousins. She is the only one Alexis will actually listen to and accept guidance from. There were a few surprises I didn't see coming in this book and overall I am happy with this book.
No sparkly vampires here!!! Wow, This is the second book in her series about a teenager who found out she was born a royal vampire, but what she thought was her destiny is not really what her parents had in mind for he after all. Torn between the two loves of her life, everything is not as she thought was planned, but instead another twist is coming her way.....I don't want to give anymore away, but thoroughly enjoyed this.
Book 2 in Stacy Claflin's series is awesome! Alexis is finally reunited with her parents and travels to Germany with them. She finds out some shocking news to do with her prophecy and her mark. She feels betrayed by her parents and begins a journey to find a way to marry the one she loves. But things are about to take place that she may not be able to stop.
I couldn't put this one down just like this first in the series!
Rating 4.5 Alexis is back!! For all who loved the first book in the transformed series, the second book is a must read. Betrayal was as captivating as Deception and did not disappoint. I won't go into detail about what happened but what I can say is that it has either just as much or possibly more plot twists then the first, this book is definitely one of the most addictive I have read.
