Margaret Daley has a new series, Alaskan Search and Rescue, and the first one in this series, The Yuletide Rescue, is due to be released Dec. 1, 2014. A true signature of her writing is a good, clean romance. This is a story of a romance interlaced with suspense and a crisis of faith. Her amazing ability to weave words together doesn't just bring you a good story, but actually pulls you into the story.

We are introduced to Aubrey "Bree" Mathinson who is a young woman that has had a rough couple of years. After losing her father 8 years ago she left Alaska to go to medical school. After completing school she returns to home to practice medicine. She has been overwhelmed with survivor's guilt since the death of her fiancé 6 years ago and then losing her mother has left her very vulnerable. She has thrown herself into keeping busy by flying to the outlying villages for a month at time to provide medical care. If not for her dad's childhood friend and her adopted uncle, Jeremiah, her life would be very lonely, but even with Jeremiah she still feels empty inside.

The story takes place as Jeremiah flies out to pick her up from an outlying village, but on the return flight the plane crashes leaving Bree to battle the elements in order to stay alive.
After retiring from the Air Force David Stone is approached by a friend to come to Alaska and help with the Northern Frontier Search and Rescue. David lost his wife while serving a tour of duty in the middle east and if that's not enough, he also suffers from PTSD. His dreams are haunted by the faces of the men who died while under his command, especially Lt. Adams. So keeping busy was his ultimate goal. Putting his flying skills to good use rescuing people was a sure way to keep both mind and body occupied. When the call came about a plane down and that is was Jeremiah's, David knew time was running out for his friend with the approaching weather system.
Arriving at the crash site and finding Bree alive was a stroke of luck, but suddenly their luck was about to run out. Was Jeremiah's crash only an accident or had it been orchestrated by an unknown assailant? David's protective instincts kick in and Bree knows he will keep her safe physically, but is afraid her heart won't be. As David witnesses Bree's deep faith and trust in God he begins to wonder how he lost his, but is determined to find it.
I do believe this is one of my favorite books by Margaret Daley. I would recommend it to anyone who like an inspirational story. The next book, To Save Her Child, which is the second book in the series is set to be released in Feb. 2015. I was given this book by the author for a honest review without bias as stated above.

Once again, same old stuff, though with a slightly better ending. There were little things. Though Alaska does have evergreens, we usually call them by their names (Spruce, etc.) instead of by the generic name. The family reconciliation at the end was pretty quick and convenient. The male protagonist is a retired Air Force Officer, and he would never refer to his branch of service as the "air force," as the author does throughout. It would be the "Air Force." I had two combat tours in the B-52, and the male protagonist is a retired B-52 pilot. He would have called his people who flew with him his "crew," not his "team." Finally, though one situation written is technically possible, the author gives the aircrew (including the pilot) far more direct combat experience than most aircrews had. My experience in the Viet Nam War in the B-52 surprised me as, unless we got shot at by a missile or anti-aircraft guns, it was really dull (this cannot be said about my second tour in the AC-130). We would fly in at 40-50,000 feet, get handed to a ground radar group who would tell us where to go and when to drop the bombs, then fly away. We most often could not even see the ground, as it was at night or there were clouds. The standard idea of the B-52 flying over someplace as Hanoi, with surface-to-air missiles flying everywhere, and airplanes being shot down did happen, but was rare and not for prolonged periods. No B-52s were shot down in Iraq or Afghanistan (I do realize this is novel, and it could have happened).

Welcome to Anchorage, Alaska!! This is the place of an
action- packed suspense story blended with Christian romance.
It is the first book in Margaret Daley’s “Alaskan Search and
Rescue” series.
Dr. Aubrey “Bree” Mathison is returning home to Anchorage
abroad an airplane flown by Jeremiah Elliot, who besides being
her next store neighbors is a family friend.
Then the plane crashes as Jeremiah has a heart attack. Bree
survives the crash, makes a ice cave, fends off a wolf pack.
She is rescued by David Stone who is a “Search and Rescue “
pilot. While being rescued, a helicopter lands with armed men
surround & search the plane. Then the plane is stolen.
For what are they searching? Who are the men searching? With
what was Jeremiah involved? Why was Jeremiah’s then Bree’s
homes trashed while being searched? Why was Bree‘s friend and
coworker kidnapped? Why would someone being trying to kill
Bree?
The characters were well developed and very believable. They
are involved in a puzzling plot that has many sharps twists and
turns. The ending provides a stunning surprise!!
In addition to the suspense and romance, there is a mixture of
humor, family and personal values.
You will want to put Yuletide Rescue on your to be read list for
this Christmas season!!
Thank you to the author for the book. My opinion is my own.

What a fabulous suspense story this is! It kept me guessing till the end and I love it when an author can do that. The main characters are very likeable and believable, and their attraction throughout the book is wonderfully done.

Bree is a strong woman, a doctor, who is very alone in the world. She has lost so many people that she loves. I was able to really feel for Bree. Having lost family and friends, she is very scared to trust her heart to another. This is something she struggles with throughout the book.

David knows all about pain and loss. This widowed father is dealing with guilt and grief. The feeling that he should have been able to rescue people close to him is part of the reason that he volunteers as a leader with a search and rescue group.

David and Bree have to figure out who is after them and what they want. Watching these people fall in love while trying to stay alive was quite a ride! I am so excited to read future books in this series!

My thanks to the author for the complimentary copy of this book that I received in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. The suspense/mystery was there from the start till the end and I didn't know who the ring leader was until it was revealed.

For some reason I didn't connect that much with the characters. I found a lot of Bree's concerns/feelings was repeated a bit too much which came across for me as whiny. I however did love that she kept holding unto her faith and that she didn't think twice when praying, even though David was not as committed. As a reader I could see her relationship with God is the center of her world.

Overall an enjoyable suspense which will keep you guessing till the end.

Did I read the same book as most other people?

Aubrey "Bree" Mathison is a doctor stationed out of Anchorage Alaska who often goes to remote villages in one month stints. Her family friend, Jeremiah, flies her in and out of these remote locations. This is what is happening when we first meet Bree, only Jeremiah has a heart attack. He manages to emergency land/crash the plane before he passes, leaving Bree alone in the Alaskan wilderness to await rescue.

David Stone is a retired Air Force pilot who now runs a small search and rescue facility and flies his small plane for said rescues. He is the one that locates the crash site, manages to find a place to land and locates Bree. When trying to get her out, they stumble across a team of men, looking over the crash site. Forced to abandon Jeremiah's body, they flee and return to Anchorage, only to find Jeremiah's house has been trashed. Someone was obviously looking for something.

Due to the storm David helps Bree secure the house, capture Jeremiah's deaf cat and get home (next door) safely. David's protective instincts surge, rise, etc numerous times during this book. Numerous. So his protective instincts kick in and he decides to keep a close eye on Bree, because Jeremiah was obviously into something. Everyone but Bree chalks it up to drugs. David, cops, David's retired cop dad..."It must have been drugs." "It's not drugs! I know Jeremiah. He wouldn't to do that" That's totally me summing up about three or more conversations that take place in this book. Only Bree begins to question the man she knew after she finds a few empty bottles of alcohol in the house (oh no! the man casually drank!!!).

Next Bree finds the medical bag she lost in the crash on her desk. She rightly takes it as a warning, not as the wrong doers kindly returning it to her. Then her house gets trashed. Then her friend gets kidnapped when she borrows Bree's vehicle. Then she realizes Jeremiah was better off then she thought. Then there's a cabin. Then then then....things just conveniently pop in and out. Most of it off 'screen'. You just hear about the after math.

I don't know. I have been binge reading a lot of Love Inspired Suspense and this one just doesn't make the grade in when all of them are stacked together. Stupid mistakes are made. Ex-boyfriend issues conveniently just drop in from the sky having never been mentioned before until the point it was needed to create a little relationship tension. Come on! A lot of things are there/mentioned/placed/etc for the convenience of the writer. It's not an awful book, but it's definitely not the best it could have been. Things are far too convenient. Another example, family reunion resolution after all those years of tension, convenient.

Is it really hard to get into a book when you can't believe the flow of things. When tragic back story is there and only mentioned when it is needed to create tension. When the people know they are in danger but do stupid things anyway. Oh, they're looking for something and have been to three locations that they know of looking for something, let's lead them to a fourth! Genius.

I digress.

In summary, this book missed the mark. When I started I thought it had all the markings of a good read. But the more I read the more the author unfortunately used stupidity, sudden background story dumps, etc to move the plot along. I couldn't find the whole thing believable. A good book has to be believable, no matter how unbelievable the contents. The author has to set that up. Unfortunately it was not the case for this one and it's a shame because it had so much promise! So instead of being able to mark it as something I REALLY liked, I'm marking it as something that is just okay. The premise will stay with me, but the actual execution I would prefer to leave behind.

When it comes to search and rescue operations, nothing is as daunting as the landscape in Alaska. I know. My cousin has flown medical missions into remote areas of Alaska for years. That’s one of the reasons I chose Margaret Daley’s The Yuletide Rescue to read this week.

Dr. Aubrey (Bree) Mathison is picked up by pilot Jeremiah Elliot to take her home after a medical mission trip. Jeremiah took over the role of surrogate parent when her parents died. She thought nothing of his stop at a remote cabin in the woods of Alaska to deliver Christmas presents on their way back.

When a sudden heart attack strikes Jeremiah, they have no choice but to land on an open lake. Terrified when she’s unable to save Jeremiah, Bree takes the supplies she needs and burrows into the hillside to weather out the oncoming snow storm.

David Stone is a pilot with a past. Flying his plane over the wilderness that is Alaska, he spots the downed plane and sets out to save the occupants while the wolves are circling.

Neither the weather nor the threat of the heavily armed men in the white helicopter will thwart David’s attempt to get the beautiful doctor out of danger. Or, so, he thinks.

What was Jeremiah up to and how did he get a million dollars? Why did strangers trash his home? What were they looking for?

Things escalate when Bree’s friend suddenly disappears while driving Bree’s car. The chase is on. Time is running out, and Bree and David have no clue what they’re running from. Or, could they be running toward something?

“The Yuletide Rescue” is a fast-paced mystery involving two unlikely partners. Will David and Bree ever overcome the demons of the past and learn to trust again?

This book is also a Love Inspired Suspense title.

We have a female Alaskan doctor named Bree who doesn't seem to do much medically in this book except patch up people who've had emergencies in the outdoors. Bree is left alone after her long-time family friend Jeremiah passes away. She discovers he is not all that she thought he was. Bree also has a past boyfriend who is mentioned around page 100 (for the first time) and then never mentioned again--he has a part in why Bree is hesitant to believe she's in love with Dave.

Jeremiah's cat Ringo is interesting. I do notice though that in many of these types of romance books, there's an animal that is usually hesitant around strangers who has a love-at-first-sight experience when the main love interest shows up.

Dave is ex-military now working search and rescue. He blames himself for not seeing that his wife was lying to him, resulting in him being on a military deployment when she overdosed on pills. Dave's daughter blames him for her mother's death, leading to an estrangement between the two. At least the mention of this is more consistent throughout the book, and I was glad to see the two working toward patching up their relationship by the end of the book.

Bree seems to feel that seeing someone under conditions of extreme stress, such as running for your life, shows their true character. I'm not so sure of that myself. (Though in this fictional case, it was true.)

"The Yuletide Rescue" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. Bree's uncle flies her to remote areas to do medial care, but he crash-lands while having a heart-attack. David runs a search-and-rescue, and he's able to find her from the air in his plane. As they leave the scene, a group of men show up and search the wreck, but why? When the uncle's home, then Bree's home is searched, it's clear they're still looking for something.

The suspense came from the danger to Bree and not knowing what the bad guys wanted or where to find it. I love that Bree contributed toward her rescue (both with survival skills after the crash and quick thinking later). The main characters were engaging and reacted realistically to events. Bree and David got along well and grew to care for each other as they spent time together. The Christian element was trusting God when life was confusing and forgiving people. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.

This book was fine, but the writing was slow/not engaging, especially towards the end where I just wanted to get the book over with.

Bree’s plane goes down, after the pilot (a family friend) dies, and David is the one to find her. That part of the book is over with relatively quickly (which was surprising to me since I thought that this was going to be a surviving in the wilderness story) and Bree is able to return to her home. After that, there are weird things happening with the accident as well as around Bree, which means that David feels the need to protect her.

Bree and David were fine, and I liked that this wasn’t a lust-centred story.

There were some side characters, such as Bree’s friends/coworkers and David’s family and rescue team, but they weren’t shown much or Bree’s relationship to them felt quick (like with David’s father).

This book was fine, but not for me so I’m probably not going to continue with the series.

Action packed Christian romance!

This story is full of action and has a super Christian focus. Bree is in a plane crash in the Alaska wilderness. David is the one sent to find the survivors and bring them home. Things happen at every stage. And all along the way, you can see realistic characters trying to live a Christian life. The faith they show is believable and what I would hope to see. It wasn't just a prayer here and there, but trying to forgive, etc.

The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character and action oriented storyline with no steam, just a few brief kisses. The characters are vibrant and engaging. You really want to see the main characters succeed. I really enjoyed this story, as I did book 2 in the series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I definitely found this story interesting, with Bree coming back from a month's rotation as a doctor in a remote Alaskan village and landing plump in the middle of a nightmare. First there's the plane crash and the death of her good friend Jeremiah...then the discovery that he had some sort of mysterious secret life, and his stalkers expect her to figure out how to find what he stole from them. All of her friends may be in the crossfire when Bree gains a target on her back...but she has powerful allies in her rescuer David and his retired-Chicago-officer father.

I particularly enjoyed the father in this one...excellently drawn secondary character. I also really liked the leads and will be reading more of the series.

This book had so many twists and turns! First the plane carrying Bree crashes and her pilot friend is dead because of strange circumstances, then she is forced to survive one night in the wilderness, Alaska, with wolves, in the middle of winter.

She survives and is rescued by a SAR leader. She is now running from the very people who is trying to kill her because of what they think that she either knows or has. What that is, she doesn't know. The SAR leader doesn't leave her alone and helps her solve the case.

While they are trying to find out who is after Bree, they move and hide in a cabin and the bad guys end up following them and kidnapping Bree. Does she make it? Yes she does. If you like fast paced Christian suspense, check out The Yuletide Rescue.

On her return flight from administering care to an Alaskan village, Dr. Bree Mathison, friend and pilot suffers a heart attack and makes a crash landing. When David Stone, Search & Rescue leader arrives they watch a mysterious white helicopter circle the downed plane, drop men who search the plane and then pursue them. What was Jeremiah into that someone was after him? When Bree then becomes their target David steps in to protect her. A good inspirational suspense story.

Well done Christian suspense. I like the strength of Brees faith, I understood the wavering of David's and I lived that I had no clue who the leader of the crime gang was. Heart broken for Bree when she finds out about Jeremiah. I wish we had a little more explanation with Jeremiah, but other than that it was a great read.

DNF. Oh no. I like a romance and a bit of suspense but this is so bland and linear, with the most cardboard characters, I stopped at 20%. Not worth my time. And I didn't realise it was an American Christian title or I would have steered clear!

Great story

Good descriptions of Alaska. We have miles of wilderness & at times killers\crazies from the Lower 48 seek out the small towns at the end of the road to kill: Manley Hot Springs & McCarthy in the 80's.
A bit of mystery\suspense; just the right touch.
A great story
