Every summer the residents of Sunset Island are besieged by an ungodly plague - tourists. Ray Weller, known to most as The Captain, pilots the ferry that brings the very thing he hates to the shores of his beloved island. Ray loathes the tourists, detests his job and nickname, but will soon discover that Sunset Island is threatened by something far worse than tourists.
Something lies beneath Sunset Island. Something ancient and long forgotten. Something man should never have woken from its slumber.
As a hurricane cuts Sunset Island off from the mainland, residents and tourists alike, are trapped as the sea reclaims the island. Sharks, fleeing what has risen, swarm the flooded streets. The creature, starving from its long hibernation, swims towards Sunset.
Now Ray must find a way to save the island he loves and maybe even a few of the people he hates.

Goodhue currently resides in New Jersey with his wife, daughter and two hardheaded pitbulls.
This was a pretty good Kaiju type monster tale. A company is drilling for oil when they accidentally release a monster. And then things just keep getting worse.
There were some really cool parts in this one. For example, at one point the island floods, and the sharks are fleeing from the sea monster. So you end up with sharks swimming all through the streets, which was an exciting twist.
The story had plenty of action and moved at a fast pace. The type of monster released was never fully explained, but apparently was some kind of dinosaur. One thing that did throw me.
If you enjoy Godzilla type disaster stories, check this one out. Plenty of action and gore, and a good read.
Man konnte vorblättern ohne das man was interessantes verpasst hätte. Das Ende kam abrupt, ein Epilog wurde nicht geliefert. Kann man mögen, war aber nicht so mein Fall - obwohl das Schreibstil recht ansprechend war.
You don't expect high style from a thriller about sea monsters, nor an intricately crafted plot - but this just doesn't have enough of anything to hang together. The sea monsters behave in ways that make no sense, the people behave in ways that make no sense, the laws of physics seem not to matter - and then the author attempts to throw in some humour (and obviously doesn't like hipsters very much) which just seems odd and out of place - even if a couple of the lines or set pieces are amusing.
It just isn't scary, or thrilling, or funny. I wouldnt bother
I like modern day sea stories that have a blend of horror, action, thrills and a dash of hi-tech science. This book has all of the above. After a few sample pages, I was hooked and I had to find out what was going to happen next. As I read it became clear that the writer had really taken the time to piece the story together because it flowed with increasingly intense action. In every scene, I knew exactly who was on stage, where they were, what they were doing and what every character's motivation was. There are many characters but they are all distinctly different, such as the crusty sea captain, oil exploration engineers, the greedy mayor, a gnarly old female bar owner, snobby tourists and hipster 20-somethings. It was extremely easy to keep track of who was who because each character looked, acted, spoke and thought distinctly different and they were all consistent (and increasingly more intense) throughout the story. Another good thing is there were no complicated flashbacks. Too many books use complicated and confusing flashbacks but this book had none. I also appreciated the author's sense of humor. There are many times where the characters are in conflict with each other or with the environment but they are wisecracking or arguing in a funny yet serious way. Being able to blend horror, thrills and humor into an action-packed plot with characters you care about, is one of H. E. Goodhue's best qualities as a writer.
Oh boy have I received my share of monster stories this week! As a matter of fact, this one was so good, I read it in just a couple of hours! Tidal Grave, by H. E. Goodhue is a quick masterpiece! From the very beginning through to the end- death, mayhem, the cockiness of a mayor and annoying city folk kept me hooked until I deleted it from my device, but not my ebook library.
Sunset Island is nice and always takes on its share of tourists before the cold season. Usually, it's easy money for the residents of the island, but not this season. A rig from Glaxco Company dug a little too deep... and awakened something! And it's traveling the waves of a nearby storm, eating everyone and everything in its path.
This book rocked! Oh, this is also a sort of Part One to a story I previously reviewed (RIP Tyde) on May 6th. If you like monster stories, I promise you won't be let down with this one. It reads so fast, it's like a short story but much more in depth! I'm off to my next book! *For this review:http://bit.ly/1s1on2r **eBook is from my personal Kindle library.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it's been a long time since I've picked up a book and been looking for opportunities to sit in a quiet place and read.
The descriptive nature used was perfect. Rarely do authors get this right. There's either too much information so your mind has no say on creating a mental image or not enough so you can't fully immerse yourself in the plot.
Fun, funny and fantastic. Not afraid to make a joke of the scenario. There is always a danger of the author taking a monster novel too seriously. Trying to convince you that this is a serious matter. H.e Goodhue doesn't do that, he manages to make this a great rollercoaster read.
Finally and I don't mean this as an insult, (quite the opposite), it's a nice easy book to put down and pick up. I hate it when plots get too weighed down with details that if you get disturbed you have to re read a chapter to make any sense of it. Tidal Grave flows beautifully.

This isn't my usual genera, although from time to time I enjoy venturing off to something different..... In this case, I'm glad I did! Tidal Grave is a tale about a creature from the deep sea but you know that already. What you don't know is the story. H.E. Goodhue packs a punch with this science fiction thriller adding all the right ingredients for a perfect storm of complete destruction. The book is action packed and wouldn't be complete without the gore, H.E. Goodhue is known to shine quite well in this department! Not only with the sea monster as a threat, he manages to throw in a couple extra elements to keep you on edge. Overall, I enjoyed this little adventure!
While the author has some good lines in here, this book is not very well written overall. Very little to no description. The repetitiveness of some words was annoying. And for a book published by a professional publisher, there were more typos and grammatical errors than any self-published book I've read. I had high hopes for this one, and it started out interesting enough, but by the end, I had to force myself to finish. Two stars.
There is absolutely nothing original about this book. It borders on the absurd. What could have been a truly chilling tale was lost in a mess of bad spelling and grammar.
A lack of any kind of background story and very little description of the creature really ruined this for me.
I did not choose this book, it showed up in my carousel even though I did not purchase it. I was charged for the book and did not get an option to cancel so I thought I might as well read it. It is short, unbelievable, predictable and rather dull (even though it includes a "sea monster.") Do not waste your valuable time reading this.
