#HOM3

Have you ever read a book that left you emotionally raw and yet touched you to the core? Heart of Marley by T.K. Leigh was that book for me. It was simply beautiful. It had characters that consumed you. A story that will grip you and leave you in awe. Heart of Marley was indeed an emotional journey to be experienced. Two hearts..two souls...two best friends..two siblings united by a bond that transcends all odds. A bond that has withstood hardship, pain, loss, suffering and darkness. In this beautiful well written book, T.K. Leigh will take her readers on a truly emotional touching vulnerable tale of the matters of the heart. It will open your mind to topics that must not be swept under the rug. And it will leave you magically spellbinded in the beauty of love, hope, family, friendship and light.

#HOM2

Readers were first introduced to Dr. Cameron Bowen in the Beautiful Mess Series. And in Heart of Light, we finally got to know the real Cameron Bowen. The surfer doctor who found love and light in Jolene. They say love heals and he did just that with Jolene. He slowly mended and erased all the shattered pieces of Jolene’s heart. He was her sun. He was her protector. Simply, he was hers and he did everything in his power to make her see that their love will save them. They were each other’s light. But we never got to know the real meaning of why “Light” is so important to Cameron. And in Heart of Marley, T.K. Leigh will take us back to a time of where readers got to know the first women who owned Cameron’s heart. His twin sister, Marley Jane.

Marley and Cameron were each other’s best friend and were inseparable. They were each other’s HEART. Twins connected by a strong bond of love, loyalty, and trust. Cameron would not be the man he is today without Marley Jane. She was his soul and the reason why Cameron’s heart is filled with hope, goodness, and love. She was his light.

#HOM1

Marley and Cameron did not have an easy childhood. First they dealt with an unexpected death of their father then witnessing their mother crumble to the abuse of drugs. But the most shocking and saddening thing was when Marley was repeatedly raped and abused everyday as child from the hands of her mother’s boyfriend. This traumatic event ripped every fiber of light in Marley. It left Marley shattered and broken. Pieces of Marley were scattered and these pieces were barely holding onto place if it weren’t for Cameron. He was the glue that kept Marley from completely being shattered. Slowly, Cameron tried to fix and help Marley but behind the happy face that Marley puts on lies a broken girl.

Darkness and pain was the only world that Marley knew. She had family that loved her but their love was not enough for Marley to escape the haunting memories. In this gut wrenching and heartbreaking tale, T.K. Leigh exposes the raw vulnerable side of the relationship between Marley and Cameron. She also showcases the power of love. It heals. Marley found two sources of light in Cameron and Douglas, her boyfriend. But sometimes, darkness has a way to creep back in. And for Marley, she was stuck. She wanted to erase the painful memories and welcome the light but sometimes the pain was so hard for her to deal with.

#HOM

Heart of Marley is not a romance story but a tale of life’s journey. Life is not perfect. It is not clear cut and sometimes it takes on another road. Marley and Cameron’s journey begins at a time where darkness only surrounded them but in the end they found the light. I really have no words to express how amazing this book is. T.K. Leigh had me glued to my kindle and had me in tears. Heart of Marley is a book to EXPERIENCE. It reminds us all to never be afraid to get help and speak up. And most importantly, nothing can dim the light in your heart. So if you are looking for a book that will grip and touch your heart, then I highly recommend you read Heart of Marley. Love this book to the moon and back!! <3

Shocked this book has so many 5 stars

Wow so disappointing I can't believe this book has pretty much all 5 stars spoilers starting now but I wish someone would have warned me so I didn't read this book. If you're like me and NEED a HEA do NOT read this book!!! There is no happy ending the ending is depressing and I wish I never read it. Now I need to go find an extremely sappy happy book to make me feel better because I'm weird and books affect my mood which is why I only read books that end happily which this book did not.

I just finished turning the last page of Marley and Cam's story... Again! This is the first book that I've read that I immediately went back and read again!! I am in awe! Complete freaking awe! This has to be TK Leigh's best book yet.

Knowing what I was about to read I was nervous and a little apprehensive. And WoW! Just WoW!!! From page one. Literally page one you are in need of those Kleenex. From that very page you are a part of Marley's emotions and fight to be "normal" due to abuse she suffered for years. And Cam's fight to help his sister. This book isn't about the actual act and criminal behavior of the creep behind it all. No, it's about her, what she goes through and feels on a daily basis, and her fight to survive. Her fight to overcome and be the teenager she yearns to be without the memories of her past keeping her from a normal life. You will cry for her. Like ugly cry! The kind where it hurts your throat because you try to hold them in. You will mourn her lost innocence. You will hurt for her. But you will have hope for her to. And you will feel happiness for her. You will also see what a kick ass spitfire she was. And giggle at her snarkiness. She was strong and brave even in her weakest and darkest moments. She was a fighter. And she was never alone. She had Cam. Her twin brother that will do anything to keep her safe and happy. And oh how I cried for Cam.

There is a character in this book that every person reading it can connect with and learn from. Everyone. Because T.K. Leigh wrote this story where you feel a part of it from the very beginning. This was an amazingly touching and gut wrenching story. Not just one of abuse, but the love between siblings. And what strength of that love can bring you. What one will do to gain back control over their life and the healing of the emotional and physical scars of innocence lost. And that no matter what darkness has found you that you can always find the light! What an amazing story! Definitely #1click worthy! And should be awarded The Best Ugly Cry Of 21014!!

You can also get to know Cam a little bit in the Beautiful Mess Series and Heart Of Light.

This book...I don’t even have the words to express the emotions I felt while reading it. Abuse is unfortunately a widespread horror that far too many experience, especially at a young age. When I read Heart of Light, I fell in love with Cam, and was interested to hear more about his sister’s story. Reading such an emotionally charged book, it left me wrecked. I truly felt for Marley and the struggle she faced as she bravely tried to put on a show for those around her. Masquerading as normal, when she was anything but. Sometimes we feel its better to sweep issues under the carpet, rather than face them head on. Marley and Cam shared a special bond and I fell in love with him all over again while watching him care for his sister and coax her back to the land of the living.
They would realize that how far from normal I am. And I want to be normal. But what is normal?

Marley is a character that stole my heart, while at the same time broke it into tiny pieces. Her strength of will, and unbreakable spirit were what I loved most about her. She is a survivor through and through and each bit of progress she made had me cheering out loud for her. She never once played the victim, which would have been very easy to do. What angered me, was the way that what happened to her was ignored. She needed to talk to heal, and her only outlet was her brother. While I understand this was all part of her journey, I still couldn’t help wanting to shake some sense into her aunt and uncle - force them to take a deeper look at what she needed to cope.
It burned me, and the only thing that extinguished the fire was letting the words flow from my mouth

Cam is the perfect example of a protective brother. He loves Marley with all of his heart and the guilt he feels over what happened to her for all those years is crushing. As they grow up, he does begin to find himself and if you have read Heart of Light, it really was interesting to see where the man we come to know later got his start. His budding relationship with Brianna was heartwarming - I loved their interactions. Even while carving out his own life, he never turned his back on Marley. A trait that is very admirable.
Now I welcomed hate. I tasted hate. I breathed hate. All because I loved Marley.

This isn’t a light read. The issues that this book touches on are tough, raw and real. These things do happen in real life and experiencing them through Marley’s eyes will hurt your soul. I thought that T.K Leigh did an outstanding job with Marley’s story. The emotions...god - all I can say is, keep those tissues handy and be ready to lose your heart to this book. It is an unforgettable read for me, and I think it will be for you too.

I don't think I will EVER have the right words to describe how much HEART OF MARLEY moved me. It moved me in a way that my heart broke with each passing word, and my soul was shredded with each turn of the page. I was left gasping for air not knowing if I was crying because of all of the sadness or crying because of the happiness that was in between. PERFECTION is a word that I would use to describe this story, but I still feel like that would not even be enough to do it justice. HEART OF MARLEY is one of those rare stories that pulls every single emotion out of you, leaving you breathless and in a puddle of feels. I applaud TK Leigh for writing a story like this. A story that will touch your mind, body, heart, and soul. A story that others are too scared to write about, because they are afraid of reader's reactions. Ms. Leigh deserves a medal for writing Marley's story, a story that is sure to open your eyes as well as your mind.

Heartbreakingly beautiful, HEART OF MARLEY is one of the BEST books I have read all year!

5 Stars!

Wow! You know how you read a book and it just sticks wit you? It was so emotional that took you on a ride that had you reeling by the end? A book that will tear you to pieces and make you ugly cry? That is this book. I loved the first book in the series, Heart of Light, and we got glimpses of Cam and Marley story growing up a bit through Cam's background but I wasn't prepared for this. This book totally tore me apart in ways I am not sure a book ever has.

This is Marley and Cam 's story. Marley is Cam's twin sister. Suffering years of abuse at the hands of her mother's boyfriend, Marley sees no escape. But Cam has had enough and saves her and takes her away. Marley is still dealing with her issues, but she does it silently putting on a façade for everyone. But facades can be broken. Will Marley be able to survive?

What can I say about Marley. She pulled at my heartstrings... THE ENTIRE BOOK. She went through so much hell in her life. I admired her strength and her will to survive. Her light was Cam. He helped her. And Cam, I adore him so much more and totally understand him better. We saw a side of him we did not see in his book.

Cam and Marley were best friends.... two halves... soul mates...!

"To the moon and back,"
"From the stars to the ocean."

I recommend this book and tissues!

Favorite Quotes:

“I’m not sure there should be this much discussion before a first kiss, Cam. It takes the spontaneity out of it a bit, don’t you think?”

“I stared at the cars driving by, hating the people in them for no other reason than it felt good to hate. It felt good to judge them from afar.”

“I’m someone with a voice. Someone who’s suffered, but who survived, even when the odds were stacked against me. And that’s who I plan to be every day for the rest of my life.”

My Review:

Kudo and curses to T.K. Leigh, she has wrecked me with her exquisite story telling. I rarely cry, even when I should. I am unashamed to say that this book has had tears streaming down my cheeks for the last hour. I had to stop reading to catch my breath and wipe my eyes. This book grabbed me from start to finish and I could not put it down. It squeezed my heart yet kept me guessing, as there was always something unexpected occurring in nearly each chapter. Well written, evocative, and deeply moving. I am Ms. Leigh’s newest fan-girl.

Heart of Marley By T.K Leigh
4 stars.

Be advised this has trigger warnings of SA, self harm and physical abuse
This book pulled at my heart strings big time. This is the story of Marley and her Twin brother Cameron. They lost their dad and at 8 years old their mother's boyfriend/Dealer started SA Marley for 3 years until one night Cameron shot him. They were sent to go live with their Aunt and Uncle in a small town where image is more then everything.

The twins are in their Senior year of school, just trying to work and graduate, and go on with their lives. Marley still has her demons to fight and then something tragic happens.

This is a emotional rollercoaster of a book, but well written, that to tell someone when you are being hurt and how much therapy really should be in play instead of sweeping things under the rug.

How do you help someone that you don’t realize even needs help? How is it possible that someone can look so perfect on the outside but be so totally destroyed on the inside? How do you help someone try and live a “normal” life when you don’t even know what that is supposed to be? What do you do when the other half of yourself is fading before your eyes?

Cameron and Marley Bowen are twins, but more than that they share a bond that most people would think is strange. At a very young age Marley is subjected to unspeakable horrors, and Cam is right there with her, trying to protect her, help her, experiencing these horrors right alongside her. Fast forward to their senior year of high school and we learn that Cam and Marley are living with their Uncle and his wife. Their Uncle is a pastor who firmly believes that praying and having faith in God will solve everything, and help to heal the wounds that have been inflicted. They are living in a community in South Carolina that is very superficial, with beauty pageants being a rite of passage for every self-respecting southern girl. Being a former beauty queen herself, their Aunt Terryn has completely submerged Marley into this world and lives vicariously through her while maintaining her social standing in the community.

We live their senior year of high school through the eyes of Cam and through a journal that Marley has been keeping at the suggestion of Cam. It was fascinating how T.K. lays out their story, getting a glimpse of how Cam viewed a situation, how he felt about it and what his thoughts were, and then getting that scene through Marley’s journal entries and the differences in how she viewed it, felt about it, handled it. Marley is doing everything she can to deal with her past, trying to move on and heal without having had the benefit of any type of counseling. Counseling is a taboo subject in her community, so she is left basically alone, trying to navigate through her past, while trying to be a “normal” teenager. What is normal even supposed to be anyway? The only person she has to help her is Cam, who is also trying to assimilate, experience normal teenage things, like first love, picking a college, and helping Marley make it through each day. Marley also experiences first love, but is she worthy of it? She struggles to believe she is and also struggles with the fear and internal pain she feels every day. It was actually heartbreaking for me to read about what she has been through in her life and has basically received no help of any kind because of the stigma that will fall upon her family because of her past.

Cameron and Marley basically just have each other to lean on and depend on. They have established some traditions to help each other when they need it:

“Say it. I can’t say my part unless you say your part first.” “To the moon and back, Mar.” “From the stars to the ocean, Cam.”

I want so badly to discuss so many things but in doing so I will reveal too many spoilers so I will just talk about how brilliantly this book is written. T.K. has done an amazing job of capturing real emotion within the characters. I felt like I was living within the story, like I was a fly on the wall watching everything unfold. The depth she gives to these characters made the story almost that much harder for me to read. I felt Cam and Marley’s highs and lows, their happiness and their sorrows. Their nervousness and giddiness at being in love, and in lust. The true pain and fear that Marley feels when something happens to trigger her memories of the past. The helplessness Cam feels when he tries so hard to help Marley make it through the lows she experiences.

This is a coming of age story but one that includes a horrific past and how these two young people try to navigate through the land mines of that past, deal with the here and now of a superficial society that doesn’t want to deal with “problems” and move towards a future that they aren’t even sure they deserve or can achieve. Once you read this book you will look at life in a whole new light. I guarantee you will remember this book for a very long time. I can honestly say it has left a permanent mark on me.

I honestly wish there was a way to give this book a million stars, not just five. Five doesn't even give it justice!

Important issue discussed

Little too repetitive, but sweet book, as far as the twins’ love for each other. Also, many emotions involved throughout the story.

T.K. Leigh has done it yet again with her beautiful heart wrenching story, Heart of Marley. This book will take you on a journey of love, passion, disgust and anguish all in a matter of a few pages. The characters are so real and thought out, that on a personal level most can relate.

Marley and Cameron Bowen are twins. Twins who have lived in such tragedy that it makes a person wonder how can anyone survive and become whole with all of the loss they have faced. From the loss of their dad at eight years old and then the physical abuse brought on by a sinister man who tore away the innocence no child should ever loose, the twins only have each other.

Trying to move on and living with their aunt and uncle, Marley and Cam grow up struggling to put the past behind them. In a world that puts young girls on display through pageantry. Marley can never be normal. Cam being more normal than his twin, still has the need to always protect her.

This story will bring you to the brink and make you feel so much that your heart will ache. From the very beginning I was drawn into the characters plight for survival. Leading up to the very end, the story takes a twist that I was not prepared for. With a heavy heart, I endured, crying my eyes out from the injustices that the world imposes everyday on those most vulnerable. I feel that T.K.'s insight to child abuse in this novel has given a voice to all those who are scared to tell. This is a book that should be read! It touched my heart and soul and I will forever remember the Heart of Marley. Thank you for powerfully singing the voice of injustice, T.K! ~TSRBR

T.K. Leigh wrote about something so horrible in such a beautiful way. She wrote about a tragic event in someone’s life and showed her readers what might be going on in that persons head. How a small town which a lot of us live in can be so closed minded and judgmental they would rather not hear about it and act like it doesn’t exist and that that child is just troubled. Not realizing we live in a sick world and most girls that seem so happy could be living in fear every night of someone coming in their room to hurt them. This book devastated me and I will never forget it. The author has done well in my eyes with this story. It flowed well, I never wanted to put it down and even when I had to put it down I thought about it and what would happen next. If an author has you putting your kindle down because you can no longer read the words because your vision is blurred from tears coming down your face she knows what she is doing and is using her talent to help her fans addiction of reading well written books! You only cry like that while reading because you forget you are reading a book and the characters aren’t real. But you have created such a bond with them in such a short period of time you feel like you know them, that they are real. Read this story, open your eyes and realize we can all make a difference in the world if we see signs of abuse don’t ignore it, help that child. This book deserves way more then 5 stars!

Heart of Marley-what a roller coaster ride of emotions! I literally just stepped off said coaster and wow! T.k. Leigh has written pure gold once again. From page one to the very end, you're glued to the book.
T.k' s writing style never ceases to amaze me. You'll feel Marley' s unrelenting pain, the constant reminders of her abuse and assault. How she dreams to just be a normal teenager, and wishes she didn't have to hide behind a fake mask. Her only true companion, the one who knows the real Marley, the truth, is her twin brother, Cam. Just when the roller coaster reaches its peak, you're zooming through loops and laughing hysterically at Marley' s quick wit and sarcasm. Her happiness and spunk bring a smile across your face. Seeing her bond with a new friend, find love, or just have feelings of contentment.
But with joy, comes more tears. Tears for Marley and tears for Cam. Trust me, tissues are needed for this read. you'll laugh, you'll get teary, and then you will just cry. If you're like me, once you step off this emotional roller coaster, you'll take a deep breath, dry your eyes, and think " damn T.k. how do you do it? Every book is always perfection."

If you haven't read Heart of Light, a stand alone novel by T.k. Leigh. One click now for more Cam!

Marley and Cameron Bowden are twins but they are closer than most as they share a secret.

After their death of their father when they were eight, their mom turned to drugs as her coping method. Her drug supplier set his mind on Marley even though she was still a child. On New Year’s Eve they were allowed to stay up late while their mom was already passed out on heroine as he put the kids to bed. Later on that night he violent rapes her as this continues for the next three years until Cam had enough and took his mom gun and shoots him but he survived but spends the next few years in jail.

Their grandma takes them in but as her health fails, they are thrown into the foster system causing outbursts when they were separated, Finally they are taken in by their aunt and pastor husband as they try to live a normal life without the aid of therapy as they hide their secret from the community.

Marley has a hard time dealing with things and her aunt’s need to show off her at nearby beauty pageants which she hates being paraded around. Her outlet is cutting herself to release her pain that she is going through and the feeling of imperfection that surrounds her until she finds Douglas who she falls in love and accepts her as she is.

Can she move on from her past and let her scars go or will she be consumed by it?

Another epic book by T.K. Leigh! Once again, she wrecked me with her writing and I LOVED it so much!
We meet Cam for the first time in the Beautiful Mess Series and then again in Heart of Light. He is an amazing man and hero. This is his and Marley's story of growing up.

Marley and Cam are twins and best friends. They were happy children until their father was killed and mother started doing drugs. At the age of 8, Marley is betrayed in the worst way that doesn't end until Cam takes matters into his own hands. After that, they are sent to live with their Aunt and Uncle. Living there was still hard on them, as they were expected to never talk about their past so Marley is a mess inside from the abuse.

This book literally wrecked me. I ugly cried like I have never cried before in a book. T.K's writing is amazing. She doesn't glorify the abuse by writing it in detail and yet, still got her point across about the abuse so many children face today. My emotions were all over the place while reading this book, pain, love, hatred, fear, happiness, and respect for the strength of Marley. This is a book I will read more than once and I recommend it to everyone. Just be sure you have tissues by you when you read it.

Heart-wrenching, but worth every tear or sob! T.K. has, once again, written about a topic that needs attention. She does it in a way that informs, entertains, AND makes you care! I lost sleep over this book, even waking in the middle of the night (once I finally found sleep). Marley's story stays with you, haunting your dreams. Marley's torment and the abuse she went through as a child will break your heart over and over again. Her story will, hopefully, make you less judgmental of others, realizing we all have struggles and come with baggage that comes in different forms. This book is not for the faint of heart, but the abuse scenes are written with as much dignity as one could write about such horror. Nothing is too graphic, but you still feel the trauma and terror.

Cam is the hero we all need in our life. The guy that stands up for those without voice. If possible, after A Beautiful Mess series and Heart of Light, I love Cam even more. That being said, this can be a stand alone book. After reading it, though, you'll want more of Cam.

I can't recommend this book highly enough!!!

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. I, honestly, loved every emotional minute of it!

I don't even know where to start with this book. I am just going to tell you many reasons why you don't want to wait to read this book:
1. It's written by T.K. Leigh ('nough said there).
2. You get the younger Cam.
3. You will get a more clear picture on Cam, which will give you more insight to him from Heart of Light.
4. Marley is a kick-ass character.
5. You WILL ugly cry---if you don't, you're an athiest (well, not really, but I would think there is something wrong with you).
6. The connection between Marley and Cam is undeniably strong and emotional---you can't help but to love them both.
7. This book is written by T.K. Leigh. (Wait, did I say that already? Oh well.)

Seriously, I couldn't get enough of this story. It is heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, and overwhelming (in the best way possible)! We kind of know how the book will end from reading Heart of Light and the Beautiful Mess series, but that doesn't change the shock and awe of it. The brutality and realness of it will bring you to your knees.

Yet, another, MUST read from T.K.. I just can't get enough of her writing!!!!

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Heart of Marley. I just finished it today and all I can say is "wow!" Heart of Marley pulled so many different emotions from me. I went from laughing to crying (back & forth) throughout the entire book. T.K. captured me completely. Marley and Cam will stay with you - their story is that strong.
Marley's life is a continuos roller coaster and I feel like I took the ride with her. The writing was amazing! I loved the conversations between Marley and Cam- they were perfect.
Thank you for Heart of Marley. You touched my heart and I am positive many lives will be touched because of Marley!

amazing!!!!

This book.... What to say... Just wow... Worth more than 5 stars in my eyes

there will never be words to describe how amazing this story was. it was an emotional Rollercoaster and has u glued to every page and wanting more.

T.K. makes you feel everything the characters are feeling snd going through.

Marley is trying to get past all her pain from her abuse and wishes she could just be a normal teen and not have this darkness hanging over her all the time. she has one friend who knows the true Marley and that is her twin Cam.

you will need a box of tissues for this read but totally worth it.

This story is gut wrenchingly good. Talk about a roller coaster of emotion. As you read Marley's story you will cry when she cries. You will laugh when she laughs and you will feel hurt when she hurts. And you will mourn for her as Cam mourns. This book will definitely draw you in. It makes me feel so so lucky for my own carefree childhood and makes me shudder at all those children whose innocence has been lost and darkness descended upon them. An amazing story, very well written and I only hope that everyone I know puts it on their TBR list!

Keep a Kleenex handing, you'll have tears lots of them!! This is a heart breaking and amazing story. It's very emotional. It's the back story to when Cam and Marley were little and their life growing up. You learn what Marley and Cam when through and how Cam became Cam, always helping people and never giving up. It's not easy to read and sad to think that this does happen in real life. I knew what I was getting into when reading it and still it was so worth it. With all it's sadness, pain, hurt and truths it was so beautifully written.

A captivating, heartbreaking story.

Where to start with this review. This had me hooked from the start and deeply regretting not reading it when I first bought it !!
You'll need tissues and once you start reading it your plans for the day will go out the window !!! I seriously couldn't put this down it really did pull me in. It's so beautifully written with so much emotion that you feel the pain Marley first s going through, empathize with Can and want to slap a few characters too.
Absolute must read !!

This book will make you smile, laugh, be mad and is heart-wrenching, but worth every smile, laugh, tear or sob! T.K. has written about a topic that needs attention.

I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put my Kindle down. Loved the story and all the characters! The ending will gut you and make you ugly cry. The worse part for me was the graduation speech that Cam gave.

Definitely read this book!

Emotional read filled with painful purpose!

This is one of those books that are brutal to read, but important to finish. This book should be read after the Beautiful Mess Series, but before Heart of Light. This is the beginning of Cam's story, but it is all about Marley (his twin sister) and her traumatic, heartbreaking, painful childhood, and how she made a difference. I can't say more without spoiling, so I'll leave it to you to read for yourself.
