Rate this book
Most people can’t farm experience in their sleep… or without leaving their room.

The 42nd Merging arrives, mass-transporting every human to a hostile new world with a System. Everyone must choose a Class, and Quest directives compel them to climb the leaderboards for categories like highest level… and most kills of other people.

Jordan isn’t anyone special before the Merging, but the new start equalizes the playing field. He must exploit his versatile class to overcome powerful monsters and opportunistic strangers who kill people as a quick path to power.

He’ll find that the greatest threat may not be monsters or humans but hostile alien species added in the Merging. Sharing the leaderboards and the same final prize, they will stop at nothing to wipe out the competition.

For Jordan, surviving isn’t enough. The System promises unfathomable power to those who embrace it and distinguish themselves. To do so requires more than personal strength. Jordan must establish dominion over the new world, defending his territory and expanding it so that he alone reigns above all.

With the power of multitasking and a summonable army, how hard can it be?

I think that this series has a lot of promise. Maybe a bit too crunchy on the numbers in an unrequired way? like do we as the readers need to understand the math involved for the levelling numbers of what the next level will look like etc. but I know that's a semi staple of the genre, so it's not a deal breaker.

I will say It would be nice in the future to get a bit more action out of the MC instead of just sort of...chilling with passive gains and not doing much, like summons for sure should make him a back line character but I guess I wanted to see some tactical choices on his part that we were part of, as opposed to just the results of said action. If we can dedicated paragraphs to the math on levelling up, and theoretical xp gains of different level creatures, we could talk about how to set up an ambush too. It leaves me with some concerns that this will become more of a kingdom builder series which... I have mixed feelings about as scale gets away from a lot of authors when the kingdom becomes the MC instead of an individual.

Looked interesting but was really slow and couldn't keep my attention. Its very crunchy with lots of internal dialog about points and skills.

Book one

At first I questioned why the MC is able to take apart the drones, after all the people can build planets and transport civilizations across vast distances to populate said planet. I finally decided that the tech has to advance at higher levels, so right now they are basically low grade junk.
I gave three stars simply because I'm not a math geek. As a matter of fact I'm not a fan of math at all. That and the way the MC keeps getting lost in his own thoughts are why I took away a star.
If you enjoy this series then head to Royalroad as it is being published there first.

6/10 I'm going to read the rest of the series.

Got a bit boring over time till it wasn't bearable anymore. But in the middle it started to actually get interesting and good. With Haje as a companion I feel like there is more action now.

I am so disappointed this book turned from this is good to I wish the mc would shut up 🤬 he overthinks everything I feel like I'm stuck in a science nerds iner ramblings this was a slog to get threw every move he made was over thought it took him 10-15 minutes for every action then he started to hyper focus on the leader boards I can't tell you how many times I lost focus because the mc droned on and on overthinking everything. I hate that he got a house 🏠 because now he is lazing around stuck in his head playing with the house instead of trying to level up he is working on adding things to the house like this will permanently be his home is he trying to stay in this area? not explore? Boring yea I just can't this is going down the base building road and the mc is just not interesting enough for that the title is misleading because it makes you think that the mc is going to get out there and be a murder hobo but it's a rambling nerd that would rather use his drones so he can pretend to be bill nye the science guy and test things this could have been amazing hears me hoping he gets betrayed and loses that stupid house then maybe he will get his head out of the clouds. Dnf the word vomit 🤢 was just to much

now with 20% more words

There was a lot of analysis paralysis and overthinking of things. I found it can easily be skipped without missing anything. Good overall and will read the next in series yet wasting my time with unnecessary words and the terrible survival advice demanded star subtraction. Note to authors: Think like your readers who all would’ve checked out the building for heat, a kitchen, a stove and refrigerator before building a fire. The only reason the mc didn’t is because the author knew what was inside.
I would like to smack, not just the mc like he asked but all the authors who have no clue about survival, yet write like experts and are going to get people killed when the system actually arrives. This was so cringe like someone on tv shooting a computer monitor to shut down a server in another room. As a lifelong hunter; the temperature, the offal, and insects are way more important than this myth about draining the blood. Remove the heart and guess what happens as a result. Authors, take some time and educate yourself so you are not misleading all the readers. Lookup uncooked meat spoil time and then think of it sitting in the bacteria of the guts. Cringe.

I really wanted to like it but it's just not good

It's just not good. I wanted to like it The premise wasn't horrible.

So what are the problems? This is one of those stories with the protagonist is alone almost all the time because it's hard to write in-depth characters and if you only have to write one it's easier.

Tons of plot armor

Very much feels like it was written with no outline. Like one day the author sat down and just started writing.

The protagonist pretty much constantly makes questionable choices even though they're supposedly a fairly intelligent person with experienced gaming. For example they make the decision to minMax even though this is very much not a game and they know that and there's very real things they'll have to do like run yet they put no No points into even getting a baseline strength or endurance.

Ah, that was really enjoyable!

- I really enjoyed the different take and subsequent storyline based on being able to choose a technology based ability.
Many other writers simply choose to play off of the common tropes found in video games like wow. Sword shield magic or healer.
Letting somebody choose technology as the base was really quite fun.
It makes me like to imagine how I would have chosen my drones to be different if I were in his situation 🤔. I would have strengthened and picked the air drones to be the highest priority, you just can't beat flight.
Tanks are ok and all but with flight you have more dimensions to work with.
Thanks for the fun mind adventure, can't wait for the next book.

Will give this a go to see if I like it.

This was a slog.
Within the first quarter of the book I wanted to drop it. I don't like the protag, the magic he got was kinda nice, but not used how I expected.

British crabs as the big bads is uninteresting.
The protag being gullible was annoying. I understand it was used to show his growth from naivety, but I specifically wanted to drop the book right there.
He misused his tech.
Trees have sugars. He could have cutdown trees, feed them into his transmuter, and got sugars from it.
He could have fused the rabbit meat into a steak form if he wanted. So many missed opportunities.

I won't be reading the sequel. This could have been done so much better.

First of all the title doesn’t match the story. He kinda farms a little here and there but no more than expected and not in such a way that it would justify the title.

I think in some ways the story got away from the author. A lot of good ideas but before they could really flesh them out they would get distracted and change focus to the next “shiny” idea.

Overall I enjoyed it though. The world building was cool and I like the tension that’s building between mankind and the Crabs.

Unfortunately after reading reviews I will not be reading book 2. The ADD “shiny” issue levels up to the next worst thing with double digit POVs taking place throughout the book. Deal breaker for me.

The Titles system is very lame. You gain a ton of power for doing some stupid thing first. Basically pure luck, and you gain endless power, and then as you gain power, you do more stuff first, which gains you more Titles and more power.

The main character rambles on and on in his head. Every decision is endlessly expounded on.

I don't like the MC. He's lame, and his endless checking of the leaderboard just annoys me.

I am kinda sick of this formula. Sick of moron main characters that gain power by doing nothing special.

This might have been 2 stars for a lot of people.

It's very chunky. Lots of stats, lots of extra details, lots of breaks for other characters numbers.

Some interesting world around the world building. Could work out well.

I'm. . unsure if I'll be continuing. There are some interesting elements that I'd like to see how they continue to develop, but I'm not that invested in the character. And while I think the alien 2ndary character is a pretty interesting take on an alien mind/body, I'm not sure I'm sold on them either.

A unique LitRPG experience

I enjoyed this first book and look forward to reading the next. I will say it is a bit gruesome but I agree with someone who reviewed it and said it was a little like hunger games as this does have a hunger games feel to it. I will say there were times that I was undecided on how I felt about the book as it is a bit gruesome and rough but I am interested in seeing where the MC’s class takes him and hope he finds more humans to save.

Could be Better

The writing is good and I like the story …. But please don’t make such an idiot the MC. I’m half way through and if the author is setting the bar low to try to build him up and show change then he has failed. You can’t build up from someone as naive as a toddler poking at an electrical circuit. If the book ends after 100 pages and details how the MC randomly died then I would understand and it would make more sense than whatever is happening here.

I really enjoyed

I really enjoyed this book. The majority of the book has the main character alone. Thankfully he didn’t fall into “I’m a horrible person because I had to kill someone” trope. The interaction with Haje a intelligent stone being are my favorite. A lot of the book is him finding out about the system and what his skills do. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Quick enjoyable read. Fairly standard "system integration" LitRPG. For those who read a lot of system books, it contains fairly standard tropes and system aspects, without relying on a super broken skill/cheat. Story is well written with good pacing and progression. Looking forward to the next book.

There are some cool ideas at work here—enough to make me curious about what happens next.

What keeps it at an “okay” rating for me is the hit or miss editing and the focus on a whole lot of math. I am sure that crunch appeals to a lot of readers in the genre. I am not one of them. It’s easy to skim or skip, but it’s still a drag.

This story is extremely slow, I'm letting it slide a little for the first book. That being said the entire first book is a week.

The main character has a lot of internal dialogue before taking every action. It can be burdensome and filled with math.

The world seems interesting and will likely become a world builder.

Poorly Written

The premise is fine, and I remain curious about the final outcome. But the MC is annoying, there are no supporting characters for 80% of the book, the text is insulting-ly explanatory, and the boring hypothesis speculation gets gobs of page time.
Not recommended, and not reading the sequel.

Note to self: too much inner monologue, not enough action. Quit a third of the way in, got tired of overanalyzing every decision, pregaming every conversation response, and barely getting anything done.

Great concept, cool sounding ability and class, underutilized by a boring MC who we hear more thing and overthink than actually do.

Good story

It's a good story and I enjoyed reading it. However, I did end up having to skip a lot because he just rattles on and on with the experiments and things literally repeating the same thing. He says so much that yeah I had to skip but even skipping. I enjoyed the story and I'll read the second one as well.

good read

I love OP MC. The pacing seems good for progression. There’s more to explore and understand. It’s a bit wordy with the inner conflict/thought process essays about the MCs inner psyche but it’s not horrible either. The use of some phrases and stuff like “and stuff” can be repetitive. But overall it’s a fun a read.

Quite fun

This book was a lot of fun. It's slightly different than the standard hack and slash LitRPG. The MC is a bit more cerebral than a lot of MCs. Do yourself a favor and pick this book up.

Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the concept. The world-wide competition was fun. The world was unique with characters and races that were unanticipated. I like that it didn’t feel like a lot of generic fantasy novels out there. I’m interested in seeing where this series goes.

interesting book

I liked the premise of the book and large parts of it but the story gets bogged down in the main MC’s head which gets annoying after a while. It doesn’t move the story forward very well. I will still read the next one as I like the plot so far.

This is boring. The main character is an every man type, which is fine, but he was given no personality. You never connect with him at all. The description sets expectations that are never met. The conflict is minimal, the combat is horrendous. The entire thing is tedious and fails to engage.

There was a really dry and booooooring part halfway through where MC was running experiments on his drones forever, but other than that, it was a pretty enjoyable story. I look forward to the next book.

I liked the story. But there was just way too little of it in too many pages. There where chapter with nothing really happening. I found myself skipping forward utterly bored by skimming text without anything remotely interesting.

Fun new read

This was a well written fun read. I enjoyed the characters and the unconditional gaming metrics that had me doing the math in my head to try and get ahead. I look forward to reading the next book!
