Forced from their home of Asheville, North Carolina, Jace Stanford’s family, along with a convoy of suburbanites, misfits, criminals, and soldiers, must battle their way through the I-40 corridor of Eastern Tennessee. When they are separated from their friends and allies in Knoxville, the Stanfords have to rely on their skills as post-apocalyptic survivors to fight off the Zs, insane Vols fans, homicidal sorority girls, and the most deadly of the post-apocalyptic threats- cannibal gangs! No longer are the Stanfords trying to survive day by day, but hour by hour and minute by minute, foot by foot and inch by inch, as they flee down what is known as Cannibal Road.

Halfway through the series, and everyone knows how to take down zombies (Zs I mean). Jace is becoming less of a leader, which is a good thing, and his kids are growing up. At least they made peace with the Cannies (sort of) Another awesome read!
Aarrgghh... it's so frustrating. Every one of these books has the potential to be really great but there is always something holding them back.
Before I get into my frustrations in more detail, I want to make it clear that these are some really enjoyable and interesting books. They are fairly original (in comparison to other Zombie books), and they do make me laugh at times. However...
Let's start with my biggest gripe and one that has been bugging me for a few books now; Jason is always leaving Elspeth behind.
Elspeth is easily the best character in this series. Beyond being kickass, she has a childlike innocence about her that makes her instantly likeable, but more than this, she's loyal to a fault. She won't hear a bad word about Jason, is always throwing herself into danger for him and his family, and what is her reward? He leaves her... constantly.
It seems at every turn Jase is using Elspeth as a distraction so he or his family can escape. That's really got to stop. Their relationship outside of this is one of the strongest aspects of this series, and I really want him to start treating Elspeth like the family member he claims she is.
My second issue is another one that is quite long running; Jase is constantly taking stupid amounts of punishment.
You know how annoying it is when a protagonist makes it through a whole book and all kinds of danger against insane odds without a scratch? Well, to me it's just as annoying when the protagonist gets injured all the time, in every single fight. In a fully functioning society with modern medical care, Jason would have been dead ten times over with what he has had to endure in these books. In a post-apocalyptic world, there's no way he's still breathing. It's really starting to bug me.
Finally, there's the luck issue. Jason is supposed to be this great thinker, but it's always luck and never his brain that saves him. Because we're seeing events through his POV, we know he's the protagonist. However, he's kind of useless and without the people around him who are the true heroes, he would be dead a million times over. It's Harry Potter syndrome.
Now, all of those issues may seem like niggles to other people, and maybe they are. But like I said, they have been building over the course of multiple books. Small annoyances that build like that do tend to become big annoyances.
However, what really bugs me about them is that I genuinely care about these books. I am officially invested in this series now. I like the characters, the overall story is good and I think that the potential is there for this to be a great series. It is because I care so much about these books that these few issues keep holding me back. I really want to give a 5-star review to one of these books before the end of this series which is why it is so frustrating to have to dish out another 3.
So to sum up, this is an enjoyable book with a few issues, but there's lots of potential. Hopefully, the future books live up to that.
Once again Mr. Bible has cracked me up in the zombie apocalypse! Jace is still funny as hell, I love him. Elsbeth is still bad ass and she is my favorite. Stella and the kids brought out some cans of whoop ass as well! I love this was set in Knoxville as some of my family live in Knoxville and we were all born not far from there. The new canny gangs are a whole other set of messed up characters! Always looking forward to the next book to come.
I think Jake Bible is a tad insane bro. There is some seriously demented content in this book bro. That being said, I enjoyed it and the three books previous to this one, bro.
The action is over the top and ridiculous, but fun and entertaining. There is more gore and blood than The Walking Dead. I hope there is a Z-Burbia 5. What else will this sick guy come up with?
I really want to give this book four stars but I cannot move past how this great series is turning into MadMax meets Tank Girl meets Bozo's Circus. The basic plot is the same since book one but the settings and cast of bad guys keeps becoming more and more outlandish, even for a zombie book. And here is how I see the characters so far: Jace - Our funny narrator, yes he is a corn ball but he is not helpful to his community and family and is more of a destructive force. Mrs Stanford - well written and a good foil for Jason The Stanford kids - super annoying, would not mind the zombies taking a bite or two here Elsbeth - best character in the series and very under utilized in this book. John, Critter, and the rest of the cast - the real heroes of the series and only receive a "Thanks for the assist" from Jace.
This is a very entertaining series but it could have been so much more than that.
Everyone is on the run and boy do they run into so much more than they can believe a medical center taken over mental patients, and varies cannibals from old ladies who dress like teenagers age cheerleaders who kill the men or eat them to hunting for women to add to their club and the ever growing zombies. This is a sad story but in this story there is a bit of humor cannibals who are humans but they barbecued them instead of just cooking them as other in addition they had a road called cannibal road were seven groups played games to see who would survive and the survivers came lunch for the winning cannibal group. They try to find any of their friends who have died and bury them or if they are zombies kill them and bury them
Survivors of the dirty bomb become new entertainment on cannibal rode Excellent narration from Andrew as always Highly recommended zombie series I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review
This one was completely nuts. The cannibal road scene, the cannibal gang leader, Barfly... all of it was just fulfillingly crazy. But, I'll be happy if I never hear anyone ever say "Bro" again, especially repeatedly.
cannibals and cannibal games! this book series is exciting. ive gotten through more than half in less than a week. still hilarious, still more wtfs and i cant put this series down. bring on more zombies!
Laugh out loud, sob uncontrollably mayhem and sadness all going down in the zombie apocalypse. Well written, well fleshed out characters. Completely believable in a way that makes the zompic seem normal.
As the Stanford family, along with their friends - new and old - continue to head west they run into one snag after another. When they begin their trek down Cannibal Road one only needs to guess what the biggest problem is about to be. I'll give you one hint...it's not the undead!
As always there is lots of action and killing; a little bit of swearing; and a ton of laughs. Some scenes may not be for the faint of heart, but then again it's an apocalyptic thriller; so what do you expect. If you are into zombies then I'm pretty sure you will love this series. I haven't read this much in years!!!
Great book! Awesome series!! I can't wait to get started on Z-Burbia 5: The Bleeding Heartland!!!
The Stanfords are together at last and taking on Z's, crazed co-eds, and cannibal gangs. For the majority of this series they have been separated and fighting their own battles, but they really are more entertaining together.
Now the whole convoy is under Critter's command and united with cannies. Things should get interesting in the next book.
This was by far the most graphic book in the series-you cannot be gross when writing about cannibals. If it hadn't been for the nonstop action and having to know if the Stanford's actually make it out of Knoxville , I wuks have put the book down for good.
I did enjoy this one but it really felt like a guilty pleasure:)
Is this series getting boring? Hell no! The cast of characters is as insane as ever, but it is the zombie apocalypse after all. More fighting, capture, escape and lots of blood and gore. They have left the 'safety' of zburbia but the fun and games continues in Mr Bible's inimitable style. Buy the series, read them all, you won't regret it.
I'm tempted to knock a star off the rating for this book in the series because the author starts the book with a scene, and then makes the rest of the story into a flashback on how they got into that situation. Not cool bro. I'll forgive him because the story mentions several of my favorite songs.
