Reena Mackay has just been taken advantage of – yet again. This time, the result is that she’s out several thousands of dollars and may have nowhere to live come this weekend. So when Adam and Nick introduce her to Mitch Corrigan, a pro athlete who trains at their club and who’s desperate to move out of the roach hotel he’s stuck in, Reena agrees to live with the tall, muscular, ferocious kickboxer.
Mitch is a man with a rough past, a man who’s almost at the top of a violent profession, and who has a thing for leggy, dark-eyed brunettes. Nobody is more surprised than Mitch himself when he develops a burning attraction to delicate, blonde, blue-eyed Reena: the primal part of him longs to slay a dragon for her, save her from a dark knight, sweep her up in his arms and carry her back to his castle.
But Mitch knows that this is real life, not a fairy tale, and women like Reena never go for guys like him. What he doesn’t know is that Reena understands true brutality and violence all too well; that her continuing faith in people is actually an astounding act of courage; that in her own way, she’s as strong as he is.
When a golden Prince Charming hurts Reena badly, it’s Mitch who’s there to make her feel safe again. But is that enough for her to be vulnerable with another man – especially a man like Mitch? And if she does let him in, will Reena and Mitch get their happy-ever-after (or even happy-just-for-now)?

4.25 RATING- I wasn't sure from the blurb if I would love this one or not but I really enjoyed it. Probably my favorite from this series so far. I am disappointed after reading the blurb for book four...not sure I'm going to read that one...
God, I loved this one. It was sweet and sexy, and I really believed in Reena and Mitch as a couple, because they were friends first. The fact that Mitch was a hot, ferocious kick-boxer just made him all the sexier for me ;)
Not safety gang safe. Like the other books in this series, the women are abused and beaten and the guys are players. The main characters liked each other but were not dating when he brought other women home to their shared apartment so it is not technically cheating....but he was picturing Reena while he banged the first one-night stand x3.
Ok, I am a sucker. 3 in a row and I can't help myself. Another freebie in the Fighting For Love series. In this one we have another heroine who has been beaten up and left for dead. I think these chicks should stop hanging out with fighters. Just plain bad luck.
In this installment we have a painter who had grown up in the foster system who learnt to shut herself off from hurt. Luckily she was adopted by a loving hippie couple who made her life better.
Reena's "friend" had stolen her money and left her in the lurch when starting a new lease on an apartment. It was because of her trust and faith in humanity that had got her in this situation, so she would fix it herself and not expect her friends to bail her out. Luckily her friends were able to help her anyway by finding a roommate to share the cost.
Mitch, a fighter who has a heart...and a foul mouth. Needing a new place, he jumped at the chance to move in with Reena knowing that he had feelings for her. Some long suffering lust, hooking up with random chicks and a little bit of self loathing, leads to a very drawn out match.
Reena has a bad experience with a man she should have never been with in the first place finally brings the couple together. Some issues finally get resolved and we get to the sexy times which were Ok.
Another interesting installment. I can't say this is my favourite series...but I keep going back for more.
Absolutely brilliant! Excellent writing, and central characters who I utterly fell in love with! Characters from previous books were revisited and played an important role in the story (often they appear to be reintroduced as just a nod to the reader but without any true purpose, but that is definitely not the case in this series). But the stars of this story were the hero and heroine, they were incredibly well written, they were given enough back story to be completely three dimensional and I couldn't put the book down until i knew if they got their HEA.
The only niggle that remained for me was what I considered to be only the partial resolution of the assault suffered by Reena (whilst the physical confrontation was satisfying, the legal side remains unresolved) but hopefully (as in previous books in the series) this will be addressed in the next book 'Fighting History' which is due in November.
Really good book and story. I'm not a fan of martial arts but the actual fighting sequences were limited and subdued.Ms. James, as usual has a real flair for dialogue, even when showcasing some real unpleasant material. I'll keep reading this series until I finish them or they lose my interest.
Reena and Mitch’s story was definitely not as good as Katie and Adam. Their story fell flat like Nick and Mia. I liked both characters but I didn’t feel any of the “intense” love they suddenly had for each other.
I like that there was more of Katie and Adam in this book too.
This book just seemed to repetitious for me and kind of predictable. I hate how all of the men in these books call the women “baby” and “sugar” before they are even in an intimate relationship – that annoyed me. I hope the next book is better since it’s the last in the series.
To be honest, I wasn't crazy about the way the book started. I didn't like the way the H stepped back to let someone else date the h, or the way he brought ow home to their apartment. After the first third, it really picked up for me. Surprising action/suspense, and I liked the way the couple ended up together. Characters were good--except for the H's attitude in the beginning. I also liked the h's trusting attitude, even though it seemed to get her in trouble.
4.5 Stars I liked this friends to lovers story it was really sweet. Mitch was lovely with Reena especially after Reena is hurt. What I really like about MJ’s books is the continuing story of the other characters, just because their book is over their story isn’t done, so no doubt we'll more from this couple.
This series just keeps getting better and better! Although each book can be read as a stand alone, I strongly suggest that you start from the beginning. Not only will you get amazing stories but you'll also get a better understanding of all the characters and even other ties to Ms. James' other series too. You definitely don't want to miss any of them!
This was a short, quick, fabulous read. Reena and Mitch are fantastic together, they build a friendship before anything happens between them. They overcome a boatload of stuff and their chemistry is off the charts! Throw in a great story-line and writing, and you've got a winner. I loved this story Marysol James!
I read this book on one of those ‘pay per chapter’ apps.
The best of the series. Girl likes guy but ends up dating someone else because she’s too shy to be with said guy. Other guy doesn’t take the rejection well and beats her up, original guy saves her and helps her with the police case and they get together. The end.
A sweet friends to lovers story, that handles another sensitive issue delicately. Okay so we didn’t really get to the nuts and bolts of the issue and I wish it had been fleshed out a little more but this didn’t spoil my reading experience.
Really enjoyed this book! I wasn't sure if I was going to pick it up since Reena was barely mentioned in previous books. We know she is a friend, but I didn't really know anything about her. I love a good friends to lovers story, and this one really worked well for me!
