Falling for the Hockey Superstar

Rate this book
Small town life in Elmwood is simple and predictable—until Beckett Hayes skates into my heart.
To the public, he’s a hockey legend.
To those closest to him, he’s a man with a heart as big as his hidden billion-dollar fortune, longing for something money can’t buy—family, love, and belonging.
I never expected to fall for anyone. My world revolves around my son, Jake.
But Beckett is a whirlwind I never saw coming. He’s kind, patient and completely irresistible.
His broad shoulders, messy blonde hair and gorgeous green eyes would make any woman swoon.
I promised myself that I would never love again after the tragic death of my first husband.
But when this persistent hockey hero says he’s “all in” for me, I think he just might be my happily-ever-after.
Maybe love is worth the risk.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️

A sweet and short romance story that will have you swooning throughout! Josie Frost does a phenomenal job with Falling for the Hockey Superstar. It is well written, perfectly paced, and organic. Nothing feels forced or rushed as our two MCs meet and their relationship grows.

Abby is still healing from a huge loss, while raising her son, Jake. Losing his father while barely remembering him, hits Abby hard.He is her priority and wants nothing but a happy life for him. Hence, being able to take him to a hockey game to see his favorite player is easy for her to do. When her son gets to partake in so much more than watch his favorite player play, she feels a pull towards this man that she hasn’t felt since her late husband. Seeing her opening her heart to someone new provides a wonderful story, but doesn’t come without its rough moments.

Beck loves mingling with his young fans and introducing them to opportunities the team provides to young kids. When he provides this for Jake, he also gets to know his mother who he is drawn to. She is like no one he has ever met before and her wanting to give Jake everything really resonates with him. He knows that she is special and is willing to take his time to slowly allow her to let him into both her heart and her and Jake’s life.

The love story that Josie provides is not just between two people, but rather three as it is not just Abby’s heart Beck must win over and Abby must protect. The comradery that Beck’s team has for each other shines bright as they encourage and help him win over Abby. Abby’s support system is amazing also and they encourage her as well to give Beck a real chance. They know moving on isn’t easy, but she can’t stay closed off forever.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Is a sweet small town, single mom, he falls first, Hockey romance with no cliffhanger.
Some of the lines I really like --- “And here I thought you were allergic to socializing.” --- "sometimes it feels like I’m still searching for what really matters.” --- “Even the best players miss sometimes. The trick is not letting it mess with your head. You miss. You reset. You shoot again.” --- "you can’t live your life preparing for heartbreak. That’s not living. That’s… surviving.” --- It’s time to stop fearing, to begin a new life. ---
--- “And you’re the guy who thinks he’s charming enough to get away with just about anything, aren’t you?” --- “But maybe love isn’t about erasing the loss—it’s about having someone beside you while you carry it.” --- “I always told you, kid—family’s not about blood. It’s about who you’d burn dinner for.” --- Because family isn’t just about the easy parts. It’s about showing up, even when it’s hard. ---
---
Jake's an adorable 7 year old who has a dog and loves hockey. Beck is his hero.
What's Griffin up to? What's Quinn up to? What's Wes up to? These and other questions will all be answered.
I loved Abby and Beck's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and can't wait to read her next book.

Widowed with a young son who barely remembers his father, Abby puts her son first and provides a happy life for him. This includes fostering Jake's interest in hockey by going to games of the local pro hockey team. While attending a game, Jake practically vibrates with happiness watching the legendary Beckett Hayes. Beck takes a shine to Jake and invites him to explore the professional hockey experiences with little tours, showing him his hockey equipment, and inviting him to share in some wonderful educational experiences that his team offers to youngsters. Beck also takes a shine to Abby, appreciating everything he notices about her.
This is a gentle love story about a man and a ready made family where all involved want to be together. Beck's best friends on the team support him as Abby's sister and friends also encourage and support her to put the past behind her and be open to possibilities for the future.
This is a love story for the three of them that will have you sniffing from happy tears, laughing at the silly moments of their combined animal family, and loving the family and friendship throughout the book. Beautiful!

This novella is a heartfelt and resonant romance that shines through its strong character development and warm, engaging plot.

Josie Frost crafts a fascinating story of healing, love, and second chances, centring on Abby, a widowed sports journalist, and Beck, a charismatic NHL star with a guarded heart.

The alternating perspectives offer rich emotional insight into Abby’s protective instincts for her son Jake and Beck’s muted longing for genuine connection.

The highlight of the novel is its authentic characters.

Frost’s writing style is smooth and evocative, blending humour, heartache, and warmth in equal measure.

While the story is a page-turner, the primary conflict, Beck’s concealed wealth, feels underplayed, and could benefit from more external pressure or buildup to land its emotional punch.

Also, Abby’s role as a journalist might have sparked deeper internal conflict over professional boundaries.

This is a cozy, feel-good romance with real emotional depth, perfect for fans of sports-themed love stories with heart and charm.

Josie is known for crafting captivating love stories, and this book maintains that tradition. I was particularly touched by the relationship between Beck and Jake. While the circumstance of their meeting at a hockey game seemed somewhat improbable, romance novels often benefit from a touch of drama. As someone who has grown somewhat jaded from reading numerous romance books, I appreciated the lighthearted tone of this story. Having read many of Josie's books, I occasionally found Abby's reserve to be frustrating, but it's understandable given her past experiences. Ultimately, I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and sentimental tale, which culminates in a satisfying happily-ever-after ending.

Hopefully this is the first book of an interconnected series. She's a widowed mom of a young son and a journalist. He's one of the players for the home team. She's scared to fall in love again. He started falling at first sight. Add in a dog with too much energy and some cats with huge personalities and things get interesting. What happens when he's handed two options that will change everything? Will she let him in or keep her walls up?.

The biggest wins don't happen on the ice.
Loved characters, not only Abby, Beck and Jake, but also his teammates, cats and dog (with adorable names, by the way - but I will let you found those out by yourself).
It's emotional and sweet. I even had a feeling that story is more about Beck and Jake, but not Beck and Abby. It was sweet love story. Maybe too slow for my liking, but I enjoyed it.

Great Story8

There is so much to love in this story. Abby and son Jake have gone through a lot and have made a good life for themselves. Beck has started from the bottom up in his hockey career and is a star. It's when the three of them, plus friends and animals, get together that the magic happens. The story is fun, funny, and so romantic.

Fast paced clean sports romance. Main characters have an instant spark. The writer has a style that gets straight to the heart of the romance and blends a heartwarming story with a few minor twists but a resounding HEA to boot.
