5 “The Beat and The Pulse” stars

This was awesome conclusion to Ash and Ren’s story their aliases rising Maverick and Spitfire like the spinoff of their everyday struggle to overcome the issues, insecurities, guilt and blame, redemption and revenge, forgivness and victory over the greatest enemy one has – him/herself.

Phenomenal read.

Ren is alone again. Ash disappeared and he’s been gone for six months…without anyone knowing where…
She’s heartbroken but also determined to grow strong, to fight it…

“I fought so I could feel something other than heartache. I fought so I didn’t feel alone.”

She gave herself to fighting to harden herself but she also loved it cause it gave her the meaning of self-existence, self-worth.
She’s connecting with her father and her life is looking positive, she’s heading towards the UFC tournament…although it’s not what she wants.
A new person appears and Ash’s whereabouts are revealed…they meet again BUT he’s not the same…

”If you love someone, you love them despite their flaws.”

You left me…you said…”
“I left to protect you,” he snapped. “I sacrificed –“

She’s reluctant at first but once she embraces the feelings that never disappeared but were only overshadowed by hurt, she doesn’t back off, she’s a fighter who fights for her heart, for his heart, for them both…and it only takes a push for Ash to see…to admit…

If this is love…then why does it hurt?”
“No pain, no gain, Maverick!”

I’m in awe of Ren’s strength and willpower. Even when she was at her worst she found the way to cope, she was strong enough to bring Ash back from his own guilty and burdened hell and made it worth living for, worth fighting for…

“I’d learned a lot about myself. But I’d learned a lot more about Ren. All the little things she thought were so important really were just that. No matter how mundane, they were all things that made her up as a person and I found myself wanting to know them all.

Hell and back had a nice ring to it, because that’s how far I’d go to give her everything she ever wanted.
-ASH-

“It was Ash. It’d always be Ash”
-REN-

The journey keeps on for them never stopping with the hardship and evil lurking…but they deal with it together being stronger than ever, being the support to each other, breathing as one,
TWO HEARTS BEATING AS ONE

“The only thing that matters is that we face the crap together. We are a team. Promise me.”
We are sharing something much more meaningful and deeper in our souls…something that no one could touch but ourselves.
-REN-

their love even more passionate and hard…

“…there’s Beat where you made my heart beat again…”
“…there’s everything that came after. That’s the bit that gave me my pulse back.”

-ASH-

Gotta love those two!
First time ever I came across to this author’s books and will continue to follow her work.

Pulse starts a few months on from where we were left at the end of Beat.

Ash is completely off the radar, nobody's heard from him since the showdown with Hammer. Ren has thrown herself full force into fighting, between The Underground and training to go Pro, there isn't much time to wallow in heartbreak.

 photo Renee_zpsevmu0vbh.jpg

Violet, Ash's sister has had enough. She can't bare to see her brother suffer any longer. Taking it upon herself, she's determined to unravel the world of hurt that lies between two broken souls.

It's time to bring them back together!

Again, I read this in one sitting. This instalment had a little more emotion, we got to see the relationship between Ren and her Dad and how much progress they had made over the last few months.
The battle of feelings between Ren and Ash when their reunited and the journey they embark to really get to know each other without distractions. But revenge still lies heavy on both their minds, it's time to set the wheels in motion and fight for their freedom.

All in all this is a great little series and I'm dying to know who book 3 is about, I'm routing for Violet and Lincoln.

Nice ending to Ash and Ren's story.

It was everything I predicted and expected it to be. Ended with all loose ties in their relationship tied up in a nice bow. I really enjoyed their story. Full of love, tension, drama and I'm happy with how everything turned out.

I hope to see books on Josie and Hamish's story because those two together will be one hell of a story.
I'd also like to see Violet and Lincoln's story and then Dean's. I don't like Dean and Monica so I hope if Dean gets his story he gets another girl..one actually worthy of his love and attention.

Pulse is the second book in the "Beat and Pulse" series. You need to read Beat before reading this book as its a continuation.
I've read a lot if Amity Cross's books previously and every book of hers that I have read has just got better and better. She is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and is now one of my "must read instantly" authors.

When Beat finished we was left with a lot of questions that needed answering. I was very happy that all my questions were answered in this book.
Ren is completely devastated in this book. Ash has disappeared and nobody knows where he is at all. He's shattered Ren's heart and she feels very betrayed by Ash.
Reading about Ren's heart break and her thinking it's just another person whose abandoned her in life is hard and emotional to read about. She's such a strong character that you can't help but feel sorry for her and want to give her a hug. I enjoyed seeing a softer more emotional side of her personality though, rather than the very strong, "I can handle myself without anyone's help" Ren.
Ren finally thought she had found the one person who cared for her and that would never leave her, so when Ash disappears it kills her inside. The fact that Ren has no idea why he left just made things do much harder for her. Ren is a fighter though and although she's dying inside she puts on a very strong front and fights through the pain, betrayal and heart break. I Completly admired her for doing that as reading about her and knowing she was hurting so much but wasn't letting any of her emotions out was hard. I wanted to give her a big shake as well as a hug and tell her it was ok to show emotion and be heart broken.
Ren has a very expected visit from someone that she didn't even know existed. That one visitor changes everything for Ren. She now has to make the choice of whether to go after Ash or not and it isn't a easy decision for her to make.
Ash has to decide if he wants Ren or if its better that he let her go. Hes paying for his actions but he still needs his revenge. The question is together can Ren and Ash fix the past in one way or another.
I really loved Ash and Rens story. Their both strong fighters and they fight just as hard in life as they do in the cage. Their story keeps you hanging on until the very end. I loved how unpredictable the whole story was and that I was kept guessing all the way through.
There are a lot of heart wrenching moments through the story but theres also a lot of happy moments. I thought the author was great at creating such a good balance between the 2 emotions and showing us different sides to both Ash and Ren.
You definitely go on an emotional roller coaster ride with this book. Nothing about it is predictable from start to finish. You could not guess at all what would happen next as there was so many twists.
I loved it and can't wait to read more from this author as her books are fantastic.

I have been looking forward to this book since finishing Beat and its WTH ending, wondering what had happened between Ash and the slime ball Hammer. Yet while reading Pulse I wasn’t too sure how I felt about it for the most part as it felt very different from Beat, more subdued but on reflection I realise that is because the characters are subdued themselves and reeling from the fallout of that eventful night at Beat.

We catch up with Ren six months on and find her doing well with her fighting but inside she is broken, heartbroken as Ash still hasn’t returned after that night. She is just going through the motions, working to build a relationship with the other characters at Beat, training towards a career she isn’t sure she wants, when the one thing she does want is Ash. Until a stranger arrives at Beat with some revelations for Ren, revealing even more secrets Ash had kept from her and puts her in a tailspin.

When we eventually catch up with Ash he is nothing like the angry ball of hotness we met in Beat, the beast is broken and struggling to come to terms with what happened that night and the events that led to his previous jail sentence too. He is locked away in his mind, torturing himself with “what ifs” and missing Ren though he feels it is best to keep her away. I hated seeing him so broken.

This is a difficult book to review without giving too much away; secrets are revealed, pasts to be faced, futures to be worked out, and enemies to be put to bed. Will Ren and Ash be able to work through all this and come out stronger and together at the end, if they both make it through at all that is?

I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t as fast paced as Beat but that is due to the circumstances the characters are in, that said the last quarter of the book was faster paced and has you flipping pages to get to the outcome. I really hope there is more to come from this series.

"It's not my story, Ren. It's yours. "

"Oh don't be draft. It's not my story. It's ours."

I just finished this story and I have happy tears running down my face right now! I was so excited to start this book because I knew it was going to be so good, and I was not disappointed! I just can not express to you how much I love Ash and Ren! I love everything about them! The way they fight, the way they support each other, the way they complete each other and most importantly, the way they can't live without one another! Just thinking about their story puts the biggest smile on my face.

I love Ash! I fell in love with him in Beat and I just fell in love with him all over again. He is becoming one of my top book boyfriends from a MMA series. I would definitely say that he is giving "Remy" competition. He's so broody and has the hottest temper ever! He doesn't take crap for anyone and goes from be loving to beating someone's ass in 2 seconds! There's so many times that he brought tears to my eyes in Pulse. The struggles that he goes through and the love that he shows made me feel all kinds of emotions. I also loved his playful side when he let it come out. Most of all....I loved his mouth. He can say something that would make you shit your pants, then in the next breath he can get you all hot and bothered!

I not only loved Ash and Ren, but I also really liked all the other supporting characters that were in the story as well. I liked Dean and I hope he gets a book of his own and finds someone to love him. I'm not sure if I want that to be Monica or not, but he is so sweet and he needs his happily ever after as well. I also liked Josie, and I'm thinking that a story about her and Hamish would be good! Then, there's Violet. We get to meet Violet this time around and with what she has been through, she definitely needs a book of her own! Looks like Mrs. Amity Cross has some writing to do! I can't wait to see what is next. I know I will love it just as much!

"Ash and I....we were both broken...are still broken...but we fit. Our brokenness matched."

Reviewed for Hooked On Books

Four Fighter Licking Stars ****

This is book 2 in The Beat and The Pulse series and is not a standalone, you will need to read Beat first.

When we left Ash and Ren things were unfinished. I ended book one with a major girl crush on Ren, she had just enough fire in her. We ended with so many questions, did Ash kill Hammer? Where is Ash?

In book two we find Ren heartbroken, Ash and Hammer missing and things at Beat as hot as ever. Ren is qualifying for the AUFC and pro fighting seems to be in the cards for her future. She is mending the broken relationship with her father and he is training her to be a champion. Ren cannot let go of the Underground, the connection between that place and Ash is all that holds her fragile heart together. She puts herself at risk of injury and disqualification from AUFC by going to every match.

Ash, beautiful, strong hot lickable Ash is broken and hiding from everything. Especially Ren!

A surprise visit from a stranger and a rumour that Hammer has returned to underground lead Ren back to Ash, only he is not her Ash anymore. They learn each others secrets and start to heal the heart break.

So here is the thing, I kept waiting and waiting for something HUGE to happen, and loads of things happened but nothing that really made my jaw drop or my heart pound. I just felt the story needed a little more. I still love Ren and would totally lick Ash and this is a good story that is a must read if you read Beat. I wanted someone to kick Monica in the lady bits, i guess she got her punishment in a way i just wanted her to suffer (but that’s me) Amity writes characters that I just love and has once again given us a brilliant ending to the story we started in Beat.

I will still #lickafighter ...any one of them would do!

If you like a strong as nails leading lady and a hot as hell alpha fighter this is a book you need to grab.

THANK YOU BABY JESUS! This was exactly what I needed! I love me some Amity Cross!

If you loved Beat then you will love pulse! Ash and Ren are the perfect couple. These two are just meant to be together forever. This book had me flipping pages, I couldn't put it down. The story is well written and it flows just perfectly! I loved how the story keeps you hooked through out the the whole book.

I was upset with ash at the ending of beat but let me tell you ash will make it up to you in pulse! God that character is so sexy and swoon worth! The things that come out of this characters mouth is so hot! There were times where I did feel so bad for him and his situation. I just wanted to jump in my book and hug him and tell him it would all be okay! He has tons of his own personal battles to fight. But he can't do it with out Ren! Bring on Reign of terror! This girl is a bad ass since book 1. My heart broke for her at the end of Beat! But trust me there is a reason for everything. She loves hard and she is one total bad ass! This book was a roller coaster of emotions. And I loved every single page of this book. Amity I swear your sex scenes are HOT!!! Now can I have Josie or the twins story please!

Seriously.. seriously!?!? Why is this the end? ? Why can there not be more?? Why??? If you have read BEAT you are not going to want to miss this one. And if you haven't you have no idea what kind of awesome you are missing out on.

This story picks up exactly where Beat leaves us and it's exactly what we need. We get to see how broken Ren is, but how focused she is on training...and fighting.. I love the strength that Ren shows us in this book. I also love her ferocity. She knows what Monica did, but she's not destroying her with revenge. The only thing that caught my attention was Monica's mom. What was her play? Why did she come back? i feel like that string was left dangling and idea was planted, but it was never address. That, my friends, was my one sole complaint about the book. Everything else was downright awesome.

I love the growing that BOTH characters do in this book. I love the steam, but I also love the not-steamy aspect. I love that Ren was wanting to wait and because of that, he did too. I loved her sister. I loved when the secret came out. I loved the run ins with the other fighters. Everything. Amity totally nailed it on this sequel.

The second book started half a year later after the first book. The heroine had become legitimate fighter. However, her self destructing tendency was overloading. Plot revealed more about the hero and the reasons why he was such an possessive and protective asshole. Once again, the sex were incredible. These two brought the pages on fire. I was fanning myself, believe me. This book was better story-wise. Perhaps because many questions were answered and some loose ends were finally tied together. Super hot and enjoyable read as usual.

~*~ Obsessed by books arc given in exchange for an honest review ~*~

This is the concluding part to this series and I highly recommend you read them in order. Again I must warn you this is a little different to the first as the fire and fight is on a low simmer initially. You need to recap on where we were left...Ren violated and shaken, unclear as to whether the love of her life had just murdered the lowlife scumbag who had tried to force himself on her. Set up by her half sister caused by the insane jealousy Monica felt towards her, Ren is still grieving for her mother, dealing with a family member that wanted her crippled and a distant father. The writing style is subdued and reflective of the characters mood, showing how they are all muddling through day to day.

Ren, having given up the Underground, has been training hard and is on the road to winning the Championship. Her dad is now her coach and they have formed a relationship and now have a better understanding. Ren is ghosting through her life no longer feeling anything as Ash's unexplained departure has left her dead inside. Unsure of what she wants and how she feels she is letting the tide of success pull her along...that is until she receives a surprise visitor.

Ash has been keeping secrets...and we learn each and every one of them. We slowly see him let each brick surrounding his heart crumble as he lets Ren in. He is fighting his past demons and his present, reconnecting with Ren relights the fire in his soul and together they decide they need to end things once and for all.

The path to forever is never easy and Ren has many choices, none of them straightforward. But we see her fighting spirit emerge from the black cloud of defeat that had surrounded when Ash was not in her life, he is her sunshine she is his centre, together they are undefeatable. The story takes many twists and turns, the romance is a slow build as the trust has been broken and too many secrets scatter the path. Dealing with one issue at time is the only way forward for these hard headed fighters.

This is a story of love, redemption and endings. Of family and support, it's more than sex scenes and happily ever afters with real emotions and explosive revelations. I loved the writhing style and was not disappointed. I hope we see more of the Twins, Hamish and Violet...I feel they have their own stories to tell! And more of the Ungerground please!

A five star blood splattering read.

I was so excited to dive back into the underground with Spitfire and Maverick. I love fighter romance and this book was everything I knew it would be.

It doesn't quite start right after Beat. A little while has gone by.

'Ash had abandoned me. He'd left with hardly an explanation and had never come back.'

Yep, that's where we start. Ash is gone, without an explanation and Ren is beside herself. I feel so bad for her. Her inner demons have surfaced and she is doing the only thing she can to stay sane.

'Call it bloodlust, call it punishment, but the only time I felt alive was when I was in that cage, pounding my fists into my opponent. I fought so I could feel something other than heartache. I fought so I didn't feel alone.'

She continues to just go through the motions, doing everything she can to please everyone else but herself.

Oh Ash, how I have missed you. . .

'I thought I was a god that nobody could touch. I was unbeatable. I was wrong, if I could hear her voice... if I could just hear it, I'd beg for her to tell me everything was okay. Then I'd be able to make my heart beat again. Then I'd be able to tell her I loved her. That I'd do anything...anything...to make things better. I let Hammer live, but I died instead.'

Wanna know where Ash has been for the last 6 months? Buy the book. When they finally do connect, (there was never a doubt). It was hard, rough and worth every single page.

'He pressed his forehead against mine, his lips parted and skin hot and sweaty. His gaze held onto mine as he drove his c*ck into me again and again, pounding against my cl*t and building my orgasm to breaking point.'

This book had it all. There was sadness, and calm. There was anticipation and let down. In the end Ren and Ash will get what they deserve and I loved being along for the ride. ~ Stacey, 5 stars

This is book 2 in The Beat and The Pulse series by Amity Cross and is not to be read as a standalone, you will need to have read Beat first before venturing into this round.

When we left Ash and Ren in Beat things were unfinished and ended with so many questions, did Ash kill Hammer? Where is Ash? And what will Ren do now?

In book two we find the answers to the questions. Ren is heartbroken at been left by someone she trusted again. Ash and Hammer being missing leave things at Beat as chaotic as ever. Ren is qualifying for the AUFC and pro fighting seems to be in the cards for her future. She is slowly building back up the broken relationship with her father and he is now her trainer. Ren cannot let go of the Underground fighting circuit though: it's her last connection to Ash and puts herself at risk of injury and disqualification from AUFC by going to every match, but she can't stop going....

Ash Fuller: strong, tattooed, an ultimate fighter is broken and hiding from everything and everyone, including Ren. He has his reasons but is it worth all the pain it has caused for the last 6 months. Everyone fears the worst, he's dead but he feels what he's living is worse than that and doesn't want to taint anyone else with his problems.

A surprise visit from a stranger and a rumour that Hammer has returned to underground fighting leads Ren to have to make the ultimate decision: go after Ash and heal her heart or fulfil her Dad's dreams of wining the championship??

Will Ren choose to fight to be a champion or sacrifice everything to save the man she loves?

This is one book that's addictive reading till the final round!!

Ren always leaves me wanting more from herself, because she isn't he woman we all try to become: strong, forward, speaks her mind, yet vulnerable in so many aspects, because of the fear of abandonment she carries. Still Ten is a woman to which love is all, achieves it all. Could that love could save him: Ash Fuller?, or even will Ash let her carry him in this moment of isolation we find him at the beginning of the story.

Ashe Fuller wasn't loved enough. In his case everybody abandons him, he believes because of the beast, the animal that lives inside. He loves Ren so much that he sacrificed himself, his liberty to secure Ren and Violet's safety. Needless to say he is a total alpha male, no one touches his woman, and he is all hers, as she is all his.

They find themselves in a, let's call it a crossing in life: competing professionally, giving themselves a chance at real, 100% unconditional love (could you expect less from two so intense personalities), going back to The Underground and finally avenging themselves and Violet, Ash's sister.

What path will they choose, or will they get to achieve it all four of this things? Could live be, finally, smiling at them both?

This is by far the best writing Amity Cross has done, and all the previous are amazing books. The ability she has of making us feel every thing the characters she creates feels, is something not all writers can achieve. There are stories we enjoy, there are stories we love, and then there are stories we live through and stay with us forever, well that will happen with both Beat and Pulse. Always hoping for more from you Amity Cross. Amazing Job, excellently done.

"I thought I was a god that nobody could touch. I was unbeatable. I was wrong."

There was a lot of devastation at the end of book one and this one picks up with the aftermath. Ash is gone and Ren is alive but barely breathing with the hole that was left in her heart. She is trying to move on, she left the underground, she is becoming a fighter but her heart is not in it. Just when she thinks she is in a place to move on, he comes back into the picture (well, sort of). Ash is an emotional mess. Jail ruined him and he can't get over this newest series of events without extreme anger. Part of that problem is that he walked away from the other broken piece of himself.

Ren and Ash are not in very good places when we start this book, so emotions are high. They both have issues that make them feel less what they should and they both need the other so badly it permeates off the pages. Life for these two have been a series of obstacles and together they need to fight their way around them. The ride was just as intense as last time but the prize was much sweeter.

We also got to meet Ash's sister and find out what got him to this point in his life. It's not a pretty tale and even though Ash is left a beast the most damage was to his little sister, who I am very excited to read about soon. This book did not lack in intensity and heat. The author moved through time with ease and again we had some fierce fights in and out of the ring. I am hooked on this series and need to know what happens next for our cast of characters.

This might be my favourite Amity Cross series yet. And it’s been a gorgeously, sexy journey of falling in love with her writing from The Devil’s Tattoo, then again in the Unexpected Series, and BAM! (Said the lady!), Beat just kicked it all up to high gear! As soon as I finished Beat, I _needed_ to read Pulse. NEEDED IT!

Ren with her broken heart, hardened again and again by rejection from those she has loved in her life. Ash and his bruised soul, believing himself to be a beast incapable of giving & receiving love.

Pulse does not begin with the happy feels. It picks up months after Beat left off, and you feel the pain and the every day trying-to-make-it-through that Ren is going through. I felt like I was walking on eggshells watching the interaction, the almosts, and then waiting for it to break when they made some progress.

I’ll write naught more about the storyline, because Spoilers, Sweetie!; but I will tell you this is a book series you don’t want to miss out on. Every book that Amity writes is an absolute pleasure to read.

MMA is not my usual choice for reading. I love my rock stars, bikers & badasses, but when Amity writes it, you gotta read it because, Amity Cross.

Pulse by Amity Cross 5 stars

** arc received for an honest review**

3.5 Stars!

Pulse is the second book in The Beat and The Pulse Series. You must read Beat first!

Pulse picks up the story of Ren and Ash about six months after Beat. Both Ren and Ash seemed to have gone through many emotional challenges from the last time we were with them. Ren is doing her best to move on with everyday life while suffering a broken heart. Ash is a caged animal and just simply broken. These two characters don’t have an easy reunion. It is turbulent and slow moving, but it’s inevitable that they work through it. For better or for worse, being together is just meant to be.

This book had a much different feel for me compared to Beat. Although we follow the reconnection of Ren and Ash, it seemed that much more focus was on the MMA aspect of this series. New characters that were introduced along with past supporting cast definitely added a bit more drama and sympathy to the story and to Ash’s past.

Pulse will put an end to your unanswered questions, bring you more suspense, more hot scenes, and will touch your heart with emotional revelations. If you loved Beat, I highly recommend that you continue the journey with this installment.

Hmm.. I'm struggling with the words to say about Pulse, I mean that in a good way. Pulse was an amazing conclusion to Ren and Ash's story. It is definitely the book to lose sleep over, i know I did anyways. Once you start, it's hard to stop.

If you thought Ren and Ash were strong characters in Beat then just wait until you read Pulse. Both of these characters grew so much in this story, not in just the physical way but in the emotional and psychological way too. They took a shitty situation and stomped all over it.

If you want action, you got it. If you want sweet words, you got it. If you want hot sex scenes, you got it. Pulse has a little something for everyone. The suspense is killer, never knowing how a fight will end until it does, but it will for sure keep you on your toes and keep your fingering swiping to find out more.

Will these two win or lose in their fight at a better life? Get ready for a suspenseful, action-filled ride, we'll see you on the other side.

You have to read book one (Beat) before reading Pulse or you will be a bit confused. The ending of Beat was omg cliffhanger moment for me do not know about you who have read Beat? Ren and Ash have some issues to deal with when they reconnect and they have both been through the emotional wringer. There are a lot of surprises with this book. I like how we got more of Ren and her relationship with her father, but it is all about Ren and Ash and them facing the past and trying to move to a future togehter. I will not tell you if they do or do not as that is for you to read and find out and i do not want to spoil it for you :)

This is book two in the Beat and the Pulse series. I was hooks from page one. This author doesn't disappoint. EVER. All of her books hook me and keep me engrossed from page one. Follow Ren as she qualifies for the pro circuit. Where has Ash gone? Did he kill Hammer? Is he hiding? What happens when Ash's sister Violet shows up at Beat and wants to talk to her? Find out the answer to those questions, and more in this amazing book. This is a MUST READ!!!!!
