A pretty black cat with a proclivity toward kleptomania, a Halloween festival with small town charm, a missing teenager and the secret she'd been hiding, and the cold case murder that only Bexley and her friends will be able to solve.
Bexley Cosgrove has a soft spot for abandoned animals after being abandoned herself as a young child. She knows she owes her life to the dog who found and rescued her, so as an adult, Bexley has committed her life to rescuing as many dogs and cats as possible.
In book 2 of the new series, small items from the Seattle adoption center seem to keep turning up missing. After a bit of investigation, security cameras reveal that a black cat seems to be sneaking in at night to take whatever items might catch his eye. Bexley and her team are stumped as to his means of getting into the store, so Bexley comes up with a plan to track him down. She eventually determines that the cat is living on the street and has in fact built himself a nest which he has filled with various items stolen from businesses in the area. Once of the items Bexley finds in the cat's nest is a bracelet that was last seen on the arm of a teen who went missing more than three weeks prior, and another item found in the nest will provide a new clue in a very old murder case.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

A pet rescue center seems to have a cat sneaking in at night and stealing toys, treats and whatever catches it's fancy. Also stealing from the other businesses down the alley. When rescue center owner Bexley tries to nab the cat who has an injured leg, she finds more than she ever bargained for. The clues lead to a body that's been dead for over twenty years, and also clues to a young girl who has recently gone missing. It is up to Bex and her friends to assist the FBI in finding the girl, hopefully alive.
The storyline was good. However, I downgraded the book because I don’t support the idea of perfect homes and the idea of potential adopters jumping through multiple hoops to adopt an animal. Having fostered lots of different animals and having a career working with animals I don’t believe perfect exists. Humans are imperfect. These policies tend to be born not out of the need to protect animals but a need to protect the imperfect people running the organizations so they don’t feel the sting of disappointment again. So if the author could have left out the multiple mentions of the perfect home and the policies of home visits I would have given this book 5 stars.
I love all of Kathi Daley's books, cosy mysteries set in gorgeous locations, with great characters, some who appear in more than 1 series.
Some series are spin-offs from a long-running series, just based in a different location in the same town. This is one such series, located in Gooseberry Bay, the same as Cottage on Gooseberry Bay. This series is based on the pet adoption centre, run by Bexley, and it has a similar set of main characters with some new ones as well. It also expands on Avery Carmichael, the FBI agent; Ainsley (her sister) is one of the main characters in Cottage on Gooseberry Bay.
In this book, the second book in this series, Bexley is alerted to cat who seems to be finding its way into the adoption centre after hours, availing itself of the soft beds and treats, then disappearing again. Bexley names the cat Klepto Kitty because the cat takes small items.
Bexley is also made aware of a missing girl with a strange past who has gone missing. It occurs to Bexley that the girl is in danger, and she tries her best to find out where the girl is. Using her new set of friends at the condo resort in Seattle, where she lives some of the time; as well as her set of friends in Gooseberry Bay, she tries to find out what has happened to the girl.
Is there a link between Klepto Kitty and the missing girl?
If you love animals as well as cosy mysteries, then this is the series for you. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline. You dont have to have read Cottage on Gooseberry Bay to enjoy this series; but it may help with background.
I've read nearly all of this authors' series and have truly enjoyed them all, so if you liked this book, try another series by Kathi Daley, you wont be disappointed.
These books always have so many different characters, that I’m always super grateful for the who’s who handy character list at the beginning. Even though I’m familiar enough with the Gooseberry Bay crew, when they aren’t in their regular setting, sometimes I even forgot who they are if that makes sense lol.
It boils down to lots of awesome people getting together to do something good for someone. In this case they were actually finding a missing girl along with a cold case murder that the klepto kitty in the story found a clue to. And of course Halloween wouldn’t be complete without an amazing party. Those folks at Elderberry Bay definitely know how to throw a party!
Wellllll....... I gave the first book in the series a 3 star, because I was left with so many unanswered questions, some questions were answered in this second book. It is a cute little series and I do plan on reading the 3rd book once it hits KU in November. I wish I would have waited for all of the books to come out so I am not left with questions. But over all the series is definitely getting better.
I truly love Kathi and all of the series that she writes. I honestly feel like everyone is a friend and that the locations are perfect. Bexley gets caught up not only with a klepto kitty but a missing person as well. With the help of Remi, Ainsley and the group from the Peninsula both get solved. Can't wait for the next one.
I was completely intrigued by the black kitty who left a trail of glitter and was glad to find a happy ending for him, as well as for several people. A very enjoyable read!
Really enjoyed this book in the Rescue series. A missing woman, very shady families, and a group of young people who are willing to get involved. There are lots of rescue animals and a very clever cat who likes picking up things that don't belong to him.
Love this series and this one does not disappoint. Expect still delivering pets and her and Remind run into a missing girl. The case has many layers and is well written.
The human characters and the animal characters give you a feeling of reality. Keeps you hooked until the end. You are lost in these characters and can't stop reading. Only problem I have is waiting for next book.
This series is really good and fresh. The characters seem to have more life and it moves along quickly. The author has done a good job with the storytelling.
I started with this 2nd book in the series, so I had to work to remember all the characters. But it's about animal rescue workers, so there were a lot of satisfying animal subplots, along with a few human mysteries. I plan to go back and read the first book, and then the 3rd when it comes out.
I absolutely loved this book the mystery griped me and I loved the cat saving clues to solve it But when is Shredder getting a series of his own and can he and Avery get a HEA together as a couple
I love this series and all of the characters and animals. Especially Klepto Kitty. It's hard to keep track of where they are because there are at least 3 places involved.
A terrific mystery, or several mysteries I should say and a happy ending of course. I loved this story. I quite enjoy this series and wish they came closer together.
A new series full of mysterious happenings Also, a means to get to know Bexly and her background story even better. I loved the addition of Klepto Cat!
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Thank you GoodReads for the opportunity to read a complementary copy of the ebook Klepto Kitty. I have not read any other titles in the series so can only speak about this book. It did take some time to get into it as there seemed to be a lot of character background that was part of the first book. The main story was a nice change of pace from my usual reads and it was fun to see how the title kitty became an integral part of the plot. Things got wrapped up a bit more than I was expecting at the end but I liked how it got to that place.
