Well done Regency story

Pros: It's really well written. Ms. Vixen is skilled with dialogue and character building. This a Regency story for sure, with angst, slightly forced proximity/marriage, communication issues, and a few other very acceptable tropes. There's no violence, assaults, or anything like that, just some basic things that don't interrupt the flow of the story. SV is a solid writer!

The female lead, Emily, is a mature but naive and shy woman who falls for the male lead quite early on. Her hesitations are around being trapped in marriage, unable to follow her path as an artist.

The male lead, Cassian, is a heavily damaged dude who needs to get married and reproduce to satisfy his crappy father's will. He isn't interested in a love match, so that makes this relationship line up with both partner's supposed needs. Of course, things turn out differently, because this is a Regency romance!

Cons: Speaking of romance, I could have used more of that. There were two brief intimate scenes but very little romance. Naturally that fits into the storyline of two people who supposedly don't want love. Still, I wanted more. There were no actual $ex scenes until the bitter end, and by that time I didn't really care, which is sad.

SPOILERS AHEAD

There were a couple of sour notes, both involving secondary characters. Cassian has a sister in law who wasn't married to his long dead brother, but has his daughter, who's almost grown. This SIL spends the entire book acting as a harbinger of doom, telling Emily that Cassian can never love her because of his background. She also drinks like a fish and constantly acts as if she's jealous of Emily, but professes she is only trying to save Emily from hurt. That song got old fast and I never bought it. The other strange character was the cousin, who originally sourced Emily as a potential bride for Cassian. The cousin says he's not interested in becoming the Duke if Cassian fails because he hates bookwork and farming. But he, too, like the SIL, harps constantly on the bad idea of getting into a loveless marriage. I kept thinking that either these two sourpusses were in cahoots to thwart the marriage and split the estate, or one or both were secretly in love with Cassian. None of that turned out to be true. I get that these characters were supposed to create tension, but it felt like a lot of overkill. Just saying.

Otherwise, this is a well written Regency story with some romance and a HEA. Not much spice, so if you're looking for that, keep going.

This book is the fourth title in the Wedding Crasher Series by Sally Vixen. Although Daphne ultimately did not marry the Duke of Clapton, having run away on horseback, her sister Emily (the woman he was supposed to marry), is left at the altar. Such a tangled web. Cassian, the Duke of Clapton, must marry and produce and heir within 12 months or he will lose his inheritance. Emily, the woman the Duke is supposed to marry has no interest in marrying. She wants to paint. She also knows she will have to marry to perhaps have the freedom to paint. Sally’s formula for her Regency novels doesn’t disappoint. Her characters are believable, the plot has some twists and turns and her readers are not disappointed.
If you enjoy spicy regency romances, you will enjoy this book.

Well, Well, Well, what an amazing story to read. Holds you till the end of the book. All the characters are emotional, inspiring, witty and passionate. Emily has some secrets that she doesn't want to be known yet Cassian needs a wife and child by the end of the year. Emily gets away from marrying him the first time but not this time, he's ready for her. Cassian isn't going to give her a chance to flee this time. Has lots of offer the reader- mystery, secrets, society, romance, marriage of convenience or maybe a little heavy handed Duke to make sure the marriage happens this time. Excellent storyline. Would recommend to everyone.

Will blackmail get him a wife?

A well written look at the trouble parent can cause by stupid additions to their will. Cassian is Duke, but he must marry and produce an heir before he’s thirty. Only has a year and no prospects, his cousin Richard suggests Emily, knowing her secret he blackmailed her to marry him. But at the wedding her twin sister was dressed as the bride, but before he knows what’s happening she runs from the church! He’s left at the alter, but knows it was Emily’s twin Daphne. Must find his bride! If you want to know the rest, then you must read it!

His tempting duchess

This a a good heartfelt read. Emily was being blackmailed to marry Cassian the Duke of Clapton. Cassian has a deadline to marry and produce a heir before is next birthday per his fathers will. He is determined to only have a marriage of convenience,, that is until he gets to know Emily better. But he has got to fight his demons in order to have happiness in his life again.

Good read!

It was a little slow, but entertaining.
I do feel like it started to get to a point in the last third of the book where it was more of them being unhappy then not, which isn't what I like reading.

Though they were humorous & fun moments throughout the first two thirds of the book that did make it overall enjoyable.

A promise made by a child at an unfortunate time does not need to be followed.

An unfortunate childhood caused by a hard father does not have to determine one's future. Fortunately, a difficult clause in a will leads to several disturbing events but a true happiness derives from it.

A True Love Story.

Sometimes you start to read a book that you really get into from the first chapter. His Tempting Duchess was such a story. No high drama just a story of how love starts to weave it's magic through two people's lives. It was gentle and sweet and left you wanting to read it over again. Beautiful.

This is the fourth book in the Regency Wedding Crashers series. It was an entertaining and well written historical romance. The characters were interesting and likable. I enjoyed this witty, occasionally humorous, emotional, sweet, and delightful love story. The ending was lovely. I highly recommend reading!

Unlikely union

Emily got out of marrying Cassian once. Cassian is stuck in the past and refuses love. Emily is ambitious. And wants independence. Their journey has some quirks along the way. A must read. Excellent story.

This book was quite awesome. It deals with heartbreak, frustration, fury and happiness all in one book. The characters were well developed and had one cheering them on, then telling one of them “oh man up.”

It’s a somewhat clean read with very mild graphic content.

If you like a story that also has emotions, you will enjoy this story. The characters are well written and you will enjoy the extended epilogue. Just a little warning there are some graphic sexual scenes.

A lovely easy read

Our duchess is such a lovely character and our Duke the perfect confused male who eventually sees the light. Clever use of the art world in this and some excellent peripheral characters. Romantic, sweet and all with a smooth even pace.
So easy to enjoy.

DNF. I have read a few of Sally's regency novels but couldn't finish this. The initial plot was interesting but got lost with all the pointless side pieces. There was something lacking in the chemistry between the MCs and I couldn't get behind them.

Cassian is in desperate need of a wife and a child with her. He is running out of time as he will lose his inheritance according to the clause in his father’s will if this is not done before he turns thirty. Emily has been submitting paintings under an assumed name and would be ruined if this information is revealed to the public. Cassian’s nephew in submitting a letter, in Cassian’s name, asking for Emily’s hand in marriage somehow turns this letter into a somewhat threatening blackmail letter implying that her secret would be revealed if she did not marry him. What ensues is a rather comical event where Emily’s twin attempts to switch places with her at the wedding, is discovered, and then flees leaving everything in tatters. However, Cassian for some reason, still has his mind set on marrying Emily and proceeds to court her, promising her freedom and to support her continued painting. This was an interesting story with the male, as usual in most stories lately, having to overcome a past trauma that was preventing him from opening his heart to love. It then resolves when Cassian is able to overcome his past allowing the love he has been feeling to be revealed and we have our happy ending.
