This is the real-life story of a boy who has become a world legend.
The book, which is being divided into three parts, records in detail the life of Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit who is an expert in the Shaolin arts:
The Formative Years – Traces the early age of Grandmaster Wong and how he learned Shaolin Kungfu, Taijiquan, Zen, chi kung and Chinese medicine from patriarchs of the arts.Building the Foundation – Describes how Grandmaster Wong founded Shaolin Wahnam and started to teach the Shaolin arts to the public.Spreading Health and Happiness – Records the travel of Grandmaster Wong to numerous countries to teach the Shaolin arts to more than 60,000 students in over 35 countries, helping people suffering from so-called incurable diseases to regain their good health, and giving vitality, longevity, mental clarity, peak performance and spiritual joy to people who are already healthy irrespective of race, culture and religion.Grandmaster Wong is also an international best-selling author. His writing is clear and a pleasure to read. Even if you may not be interested in the subjects he writes about, you will still enjoy reading his autobiography which is full of fun and humour, and benefit much from the real-life stories which illustrate many invaluable lessons to enrich our daily life.
The Special and Limited Edition comes with a DVD which consists of 70 videos that record the kungfu sets mentioned in the book.
Wong Kiew Kit is a fourth generation successor from the Southern Shaolin Monastery in China (not to be confused with the more commonly known Shaolin Monastery in Henan Province) and is a grandmaster of Shaolin Kung Fu and Qigong. He is also the head of the Shaolin Wahnam Institute.
This was a very special book for me. First off, I’m one of Sigung Wong Kiew Kit’s 60,000 students – through my Sifu in Frankfurt – but that bias notwithstanding, this was a wonderful book for many reasons.
It was the story of how a young kung fu student discovered the combat effectiveness of kung fu at the time when doing so was unfashionable and most claimed they learned kung fu for fitness. Wuxia fans would love the kung fu stories.
It was also the story of a man who discovered the healing powers of chi gung and who has taught thousands of people how to heal themselves from incurable diseases and find vitality, energy and happiness. Some of the miracles described are just amazing.
And, finally, it was the travelogue of someone who’s travelled extensively. It was a very inspiring book.
Oh yes, and as a bonus, this special edition had a dvd of 70 kung fu sets, many of which were previously considered highly guarded secret sets reserved for only special students as well as rare sets, such as Essence of Shaolin Kung Fu, Wing Choon 72-Pattern Tiger-Crane, Dragon Strength and a Choy-Li-Fatt set that came through a wing choon lineage.
I also might add that I found the book very interesting from a cultural perspective as it is about a Chinese person who grew up in Malaysia, which is a very culturally diverse and fascinating country.
It is truly an amazing and profound book. In fact, I can honestly say that this is the best book that I have ever read. I consider a book excellent when, after finishing it, I know that I will read it again many times. I will read it again many times because I know that every time I do I will learn many new lessons and will inspire and help me to become the best person I can be.
This book narrates the life of a genuine Shaolin Grandmaster who demonstrates by a living example how the Shaolin Arts can enrich our life and the life of others.
It is fascinating to see how many secrets and teachings have been shared here. In fact, I consider "The Way of the Master" as the most complete book related to the Shaolin Arts. I predict that this book will soon become a "modern" classic in the Kung Fu literature as it highly contributes to preserve the wonderful and genuine Shaolin Arts.
