Good Fiends

Rate this book
Good Fiends is a standalone contemporary fantasy set in a modern world transformed by the emergence of shadowy fiends.

Blue has spent half of her life trapped in an underground bunker where she is subjected to exposure to a mysterious light. When she isn’t in the saturation tank, she’s recovering from the painful side effects, reading, or honing her Ttacher skills, which grant her the ability to command fiends using the glowing cord in her chest. But Blue has seen glimpses of life outside the Institute through the eyes of her only friend, and when she suspects the compound will be moved, cutting her off from the rest of the world entirely, she escapes into the Southern California sunshine.

Bonding with a furious wolf fiend to escape the Institute guards, Blue agrees to help Kai get out of the debt trapping him in San Diego in exchange for his protection on the road to Vancouver Island, where the Ttacher Union may offer Blue refuge from the organization that raised her. As they move through California and Oregon by boat, bus, train, car, and foot, they deal with fiends from Kai’s past in addition to Blue’s pursuers. Den leaders, ssmoke dealers, Institute coatguards, and corrupt Ttachers stand between them and their goal, but as the pair get closer, they grow stronger. Blue has traits her Ttatcher abilities can’t explain, and Kai’s connection to his umbral body keeps advancing. While they struggle to decide what future to make for themselves, outside forces attempt to steal the choice from Blue forever.

When Blue ends up back in Institute hands, she and Kai must break mortal limitations to remain in a world where they can be together— or die fighting for the unbreakable bond they share.

This is the SWEET EDITION, which has closed door or non-graphic intimate scenes.

I'm not someone who typically reads romance, but I had a great time with this one! Blue and Kai are both hilarious and extremely likeable characters and I couldn't help but root for them. The world building is extremely interesting and is woven very naturally into the story - no info dumps here! Delaney is off to a great start and I'm really looking forward to reading more of her work!
