Tavie has just died, but that isn’t the end of her existence. Instead, she ends up “living” in Deadsville, where the dead play games, look for entertainment, and wonder when they will move on. Reapers walk the streets occasionally, taking “deadies” who are ready to move on. All of that’s normal until two deadies are murdered in a way that the residents of Deadsville have never seen before. They need someone to figure it out before more bad stuff happens. They need Tavie, that is, Detective Tavie, as she was known in the living world. Tavie isn’t exactly happy about the promotion to Deadsville Sheriff. She sees gods of the dead, people who died in bizarre ways, and is presented with a mystery that requires unusual creativity to solve it. And that’s all before the dust settles from her arrival in the land of the dead. Nothing in Deadsville is ever boring.
C.L. Bevill has been in the U.S. Army, cleaned floors, a graphic illustrator, a therapist, and a stay at home mother. She lives in the Alabama area with her husband and daughter and keeps plugging away at the next great American novel.
CL Bevill is at the top of my indie author list so when this book came out I bought it right away. I was not disappointed. I've reread it few times and it just keeps getting better.
When the author announced on Facebook that the book was available on the Nook, I immediately bought it that morning, and started reading it. It was so good, I couldn't put it down and finished it that night.
Like all of C.L. Bevill's books, this one did not disappoint, and as the plot went along at a good speed, it kept me interested almost to the end. I had to force myself to slow down, I was thoroughly enjoying the book, and did not want it to end. It's funny how you picture characters in your mind. I imagined Tavie to look something like Olivia Benson on Law and Order SVU, a strong woman who won't take crap from anyone. The author does a great job describing Deadsville, I feel I might know my way around when my time comes (but not today, God, not today).
I'm hoping this will be a series, and can't wait for the next book.
Have you ever picked up a book because you like most of the author's books but don't really have high hopes for it? And then couldn't put it down? Deadsville is one of those books. Tavie wakes up in a strange place A clown is trying to pick her pocket. She is in a strange grey and black place that looks put together with damaged spare parts. The clown tells her she is in Deadsville and that she is dead. As she is a police officer she is offered the job of sheriff of Deadsville after she prevents 3 "deadies" from assaulting a young girl. Then one of the deadies is found actually dead and the adventure really begins.
