She’s forty-two, newly divorced and rebuilding from the ground up. He’s thirty-three, brooding, brilliant and entirely too fit to be her boss. This was never meant to happen.

Callum Wright
I came to the countryside to slow down, not set my life on fire. Then Stella Marsh showed up for an interview. Quiet voice, mumsy cardigan, clearly nervous and knocked the breath out of me anyway. Nearly ten years older. Sharp as hell. Curvy in ways that wreck my focus. I hired her because she was capable. Somewhere along the way, I started craving her. Now I’m seconds from crossing every professional line, and the worst part is, I don’t even want to stop.

Stella Marsh
I thought this job would be a sensible step forward. I should have known better the moment I laid eyes on my new boss. All tattoos, sharp words and the kind of stare that makes my knees forget how to function. I’m too old for office crushes and far too bruised to play games. But Callum sees me in a way no one ever has. Not as a project. Not as a placeholder. As a woman. And the more I try to keep my distance, the harder it gets to pretend I don’t want to give in.

A sharp, sexy age gap romance about power, passion and finally saying yes to the kind of love that doesn’t play safe.

About the author

Dani Elias

46 books222 followers
Dani Elias writes swoony, steamy British romance about women in their forties who are very good at some parts of life and quietly unravelling in others. Her FMCs are relatable, flawed, funny, and fully human. Some are plus size, some are not, but all of them are centred, desired, and allowed to take up space in their own love stories.

Set mostly in small towns, with the occasional city romcom, Dani’s books are written in British English and focus on emotional connection, lived-in chemistry, and intimacy that deepens the relationship rather than dominating it. Her heroes are usually golden retriever cinnamon rolls with a side of nerdy dorkiness, because frankly, that’s the dream.

Based in Carlisle (UK), Dani writes romances for readers who want grown up love, real bodies, real feelings, and proof that happily ever after does not come with an age limit.

The bar for novellas has been lifted so high with this one!!!

I have 30 highlights from this book - let this speak for itself.

It’s the first time I didn’t get even the slightest ick with the insta-interest. It’s a novella so my expectations for the fast pace and instantness were properly adjusted in the first place, but I seriously didn’t mind AT ALL the insta-lust/interest and how quickly they started being together.

This novella felt as a full on novel!
It’s a little over 100 pages so of course everything kinda has to happen quite quickly, but it all just felt… right. It all made sense and wasn’t lacking anything, anything at all.

I have a very soft spot for FMCs whose ex made them feel small. I was furious with the ex-husband here.
But Callum, oh Callum, after being a bit of an a-hole at the beginning, was so good to Stella after the first hiccup was sorted out.

I loved that Stella is in her 40s and that there is reverse age gap trope. I loved loved loved how she stood on her own after the divorce.
Her relationship with Callum was just so good.

Again: just a little over 100 pages but when they got to the I-love-yous scene it felt right, not at all forced “for the sake of the plot”.
The iloveyou scene was so cute!!!

I think it’s tricky to find a good novella, and this one? It’s *really* good.

Another fantastic story from Dani. Stella was such an absolute amazing fmc, I loved how strong and more herself she became. She found herself after her divorce and never looked back. Callum was there to support and fight for her every step of the way. The sparks were flying instantly between them.

If you enjoy spicy romance and you haven’t read a book by Dani Elias, you are really missing out. I’ve been hooked since the very first book I read by her and I always look forward to a new one.

I loved this book so much and I devoured it. I don’t read a lot of reverse age gap but I ate this one up! I loved Stella and Callum so much, even though I wanted to smack Callum upside the head at first. The way that he stood up for Stella had me swooning.

One thing I really love about Dani Elias’ books is that the relationships are so adult and mature. There’s not any toxicity and the characters communicate!

5/5 I have no complaints whatsoever and I could’ve read a much longer book about these characters.

Thank you so much to Happily Booked PR and Dani Elias for an advance copy of this book!

🌶 - Spice Level

Rich CEO tired of the hustle and bustle of the city moves to the London countryside and needs a personal assistant. Small town only offers a single, divorced mom who hasn't worked in a decade. She's finally left an emotional abuser and made a life for herself along with rediscovery.

These two were Instalust from the moment she interviews. Day 1 of working together, and he was already so hard up for her his peen was standing up. I did enjoy that this relationship would be the healing she needed and to be treated right. He was all in sexing and protecting her from the ex.

I found this was almost too short to really get a fully developed relationship between the two mains, but it was a good start.

I feel so honored to be an ARC reader for a Dani Elias novella! I absolutely love her writing! This was so good! I laughed out loud and even had my daughter read one part! The feels are all there—hesitation, lust, friendship, respect, lust, protectiveness, support, lust and LOVE! Callum and Stella’s story is so beautiful. It’s a Perfect read! @danielias

Guilty pleasures. That's what Dani Elias writes. Quick reads that just make you happy. Not your typical relationships that you find in every other romance read. Callum and Stella are perfect for each other. They know just what the other needs. Perfect for when you need a quick read to enjoy.

Surprise Me Tonight by Dani Elias was a quick read. Fast-paced, age-gap romance with the spice from Dani Elias that I have come to look forward to! Stella & Callum are the type of couple that gives hope to women in their 40's that true love exists!

First off this was an ARC, so thank you to the author for this opportunity.
Now for the review - I’m giving this 3 stars. This was not for me, however I liked the author’s writing style. I like the dual timeline, and found her writing easy to stay engaged with. The plot was a little unbelievable for me and the amount of spice was way too much for my preference. I’m also clearly not a fan of the workplace romance or the dominant male main character. If you like those tropes and are a fan of quite a bit of spice then this could very well be something you’d enjoy.

This book was a fun, quick, insta-lust workplace romance that had me smiling the entire time!

In the book, we meet Stella Marsh, a 40-year-old divorcée who, after a painful marriage that left her self-esteem and confidence shot, is ready for a new start. Enter Callum Wright. Callum is 35, rich, and fine!!!!! He has just moved to Little Hadlow and needs a personal assistant. Stella goes in for an interview, and the moment she walks in, sparks fly! Callum falls and he falls hard; within just a few days of being hired, these two are unable to keep their hands off each other and the rest...like they say, is history! I really enjoy Dani's writing style. Sometimes, I just want a quick, flirty love story where the people know what they want and go for it. This is exactly what I got from 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.

In addition to the Callum and Stella’s story which was hot, flirty, and very steamy, I also enjoyed the side characters and secondary storylines. I loved Stella's friendship with her bestie Fran. Fran not only brought the laughs, but she also brought some much-needed wisdom. Where Stella’s ex-husband tore her down, Fran was always there to remind Stella that she was everything and more.

Speaking of the ex, Jeremy was the worst! I felt so sad for Stella because he made her feel unwanted and put her down so much, that she carried that into her relationship with Callum. Every time Jeremy appeared in the book, I was yelling at my kindle "She doesn't want or need you anymore, go away dude!" Lol. What a complete loser. But I loved watching Stella rediscover her worth and finally stand up for herself with Callum’s love and support.

If you are looking for a slow-burn romance, this is not it. This is a steamy, fast-paced read that will have you clutching your pearls. But in the end, Stella and Callum found love and peace in each other. Honestly, what more can you ask for?

Thanks Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the gifted ARC.

Surprise Me Tonight is a small town, age gap romance featuring Stella Marsh and Callum Wright.

Callum is a 33-year old successful business man who is ready to slow down. He decides to move from London to Little Hadlow, a village in Kent. He needs a PA though and it seems none of the applicants are interested in commuting there.

Stella is a 42-year old divorcee, a resident of Little Hadlow. She has been out of the workforce for years but is in the process of completing her Executive Assistant training and is encouraged to apply for the position. When she shows up at Callum's place, she is certain she is all wrong for the job and that there is someone better out there. During the interview though, she calls him out and readily puts him in his place. Stella is not only competent but honest and seemingly fearless. She's perfect for the position. The only problem is, Callum finds himself highly attracted to her.

This was a beautifully written novella. It didn't feel rushed or too short. The author did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. There is some intense chemistry between them, and their passion jumps off the page. I loved seeing Stella come into herself, and bloom. She was a little like the ugly duckling who grew to be a beautiful swan. I loved that a bright, sexy, successful, younger man fell for her, and fell hard. He saw her beauty and appreciated her for exactly who she was.

I have quickly become a big fan of Elias' writing and am keen to get my hands on whatever she will be releasing next!

This is Book 1 of Dani's new series, Claimed on Sight and is available as a model cover on the eBook version and a special cover for paperback, which I think is absolutely beautiful!

🌟 PLUS THIS IS WRITTEN IN BRITISH ENGLISH! 🌟

Our very first book follows Callum and Stella - two individuals with their own interesting backgrounds.

Stella is mid-40s, newly divorced and getting her life back together after a jerk ex. She is finding herself and her voice again and is just a brilliant character... I think every woman can see a piece of themselves in her.

Callum is mid-30s, company driven and escaping the city to try and create a better work/life balance for himself. He is determined and driven... and could be be perfect for Stella?

I adore Dani's writing and this book was no different. It was good to see a reverse age gap if I am honest, as usually it's always the younger woman which can get a little boring at times.

Dani explores Stella's determination and confidence issues beautifully and I think every woman can relate to at least one of Stella's concerns over the course of her life.

The story itself shows with characters growing and developing and it was brilliant to see this. We see Stella becoming herself again but with added confidence and we see Callum realising that not everything is temporary (relationships) and works shouldn't come first over happiness...

This is just a brilliant start to her series and I can't wait to see where Dani takes us next!

This was a quick read that keeps you entertained when needed or in my case from doing my own assignments.

This book was really sweet and spicy as well. It was a perfect mix between both and kept you hooked from the beginning. It also has very good representation for older ladies finding love after they think they won’t.

I loved how the character interactions didn’t feel forced but actually flowed well. Even with the actions taking place within the book everything was so well written that I couldn’t put the book down unless I finished it.

Stella is such a badass especially with how she didn’t let Callum give her any shit. And she also called him out on his behavior of being an asshat at the beginning. I found it so funny but at the same time I was cheering her on. I love how hard working she is especially with how studious her character is since it is something I could relate to.

Callum was a character that I didn’t expect to be such a lovable character. I was expecting some sort of king off all assholes but he was actually a very misunderstood character that showed he was nothing like how I expected. The way he acted towards Stella was also something I loved and loved how he basically showed his love for her in many ways.

These two character as ones I won’t let go any time soon that’s how much I loved them and the book as a whole!

I absolutely loved Surprise Me Tonight! Stella is such a refreshing FMC: she’s ambitious, witty, and vulnerable in ways that make her easy to connect with. She’s strong, but also human enough to stumble, and that balance made me root for her. Callum, on the other hand, is pure book boyfriend material as he’s swoony, steady, and just the right mix of playful charm and emotional depth. Together, their chemistry leaps off the page from their very first interaction.

What really worked for me was the dynamic between them: the banter is hilarious, the tension is addictive, and the moments of intimacy (both emotional and physical) feel real and earned. Dani Elias writes their romance with just the right balance of fun, spice, and heart, so you’re laughing one minute and swooning the next.

The supporting characters and the light chaos of romcom setups add even more warmth to the story without overshadowing Stella and Callum’s journey. The pacing flows smoothly, and every scene serves the story, whether it’s to make you laugh, fan yourself, or clutch your heart.

This book has everything you’re looking for: humor, heat, heartfelt moments, and a romance that feels alive. Stella and Callum are a couple I’ll be thinking about long after finishing (even though the book was short). A definite 5 stars from me!

Surprise Me Tonight is a heartwarming, second-chance romance about rediscovering yourself and learning to love again. Stella is piecing her life back together after a divorce, determined to focus on herself now that her daughter has left for university. She’s trying to reclaim the confidence her marriage stripped away — a journey that’s both tender and empowering to watch.

Enter Callum Wright, a 33-year-old entrepreneur who’s ready to slow down after years of nonstop meetings, corporate politics, and relentless ambition. He’s settled into a quieter small-town life and is searching for an assistant — and a little peace. Neither he nor Stella expects much from a chance encounter at a coffee shop, but sparks quickly fly.

What I loved most about this book is how Stella’s character evolves. She starts off reserved and hesitant, but as her connection with Callum deepens, her confidence blossoms. Their dynamic is playful and sharp — full of witty banter and sass — but it’s also layered with genuine care and mutual respect.

Yes, there’s spice, but what truly makes Surprise Me Tonight shine is its emotional depth. The way Callum supports Stella, helping her rebuild her sense of self after a damaging relationship, gives the story a beautiful emotional core.

This was such a fun, charming story. It had just the right mix of humor, emotion, and chemistry to keep me hooked from beginning to end. The setup felt like something out of a rom-com—a surprise auction, a reluctant connection, and a spark that builds when neither character is expecting it.

The writing was sharp and full of personality. I loved how natural the dialogue felt, especially during the teasing, flirty moments that made me smile. There were also a few emotional scenes that hit harder than I expected, giving the story a nice balance between lighthearted and heartfelt.

The main characters had great chemistry, and the tension between them was believable without being over the top. The slow build of trust and attraction made the ending feel earned. My only minor gripe was that a few scenes moved a bit too quickly, but overall, it didn’t detract from how much I enjoyed the story.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (fun, steamy, and balanced with emotion)
Cozy: ☕☕☕ (light, warm, and full of small-town energy)
Chills: 👻 (none, just the romantic kind)
Action: ⚔️⚔️ (emotional tension and relationship drama)

A sweet, sexy, and heartfelt romance that left me smiling. Perfect for anyone who loves a good mix of humor, heat, and heart.

Surprise Me Tonight by Dani Elias is the definition of a guilty pleasure, quick, spicy, and guaranteed to make you smile. This novella may be just over 100 pages, but it reads like a full-length novel with perfectly developed chemistry and heart.

Stella, forty-two and newly divorced, is rebuilding her life and rediscovering her confidence when she takes a new job as a PA. Callum, thirty-three, is her brooding, brilliant, and far-too-attractive boss who moved to the countryside to slow down, not fall for his employee. From the first meeting, their connection sparks, and what follows is a blend of passion, understanding, and genuine emotional growth.

Dani Elias writes relationships that aren’t cookie-cutter, and Stella and Callum’s story is proof of that. I loved seeing Stella regain her strength after a painful marriage and Callum’s steady, supportive presence as she did. The insta-attraction felt natural, never forced, and the story flowed beautifully from start to finish.

If you love age-gap, workplace romance with a bit of spice, real emotion, and a heroine finding herself again, this is the perfect quick read. It’s heartfelt, sexy, and simply so good.

Callum may be a big time CEO, but he's tired of the city and the daily grind. That's how he finds himself in the small town of Little Hallow. Still feeling the pain of her divorce and the insults her ex had left her with, Stella is trying to move forward with her life. But jobs for an executive assistant are few and far between in her little part of the world. So, despite some misgivings, when she's offered the chance to work with the CEO who just moved into town, she grabs it. Neither Callum or Stella were looking for a relationship, but it seemed to have found them.

I enjoyed this sweet, low angst romance of two people who found something they didn't even know they were looking for. I liked that the main characters were older. It brought a different perspective to the relationship, giving it a more sincere and honest feel. I also liked the way Callum saw Stella. He gave her confidence. And Stella gave him a space to be Callum the person instead of Callum the CEO.

This is a story with heart. It's gentle, tender tone was perfect for a quiet afternoon read when all you want is a feel good story.

Book Rating: ⭐️ 5/5
Spice Rating: 🌶️ 3/5

I loved this book! Surprise Me Tonight by Dani Elias was everything I want in a quick, feel-good romance...smart, sexy, empowering, and full of heart. Stella completely stole my heart. She’s forty-two, newly divorced, and learning to rediscover herself after years of feeling invisible. Watching her find confidence again, one sharp-witted remark and flirty glance at her new boss at a time, was so satisfying and relatable.

And Callum? Swoony doesn’t even begin to cover it. He’s charming, grounded, and the perfect balance to Stella’s chaos and self-doubt. Their chemistry was instant and only got better as the story unfolded. What I loved most, though, was how their relationship wasn’t just about attraction; it was about growth, respect, and finding joy again.

Dani Elias nailed the balance between spice and emotion here. The banter had me grinning, the tension had me fanning myself, and the tender moments had me full-on melting. For a novella, it packed so much heart. This one is proof that it’s never too late to fall in love again, and that a younger man with good banter can absolutely change your life.

Suprise Me Tonight by Dani Elias
(ARC Review)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I devoured this book in one sitting. It’s such a good time of a book! Both characters really settle into themselves throughout the book and the chemistry between them is off the charts! ##

If you want something short, sweet and spicy then this is for you. It has a surprisingly good amount of tension and yearning for a novella, the side characters are funny and I even teared up towards the end! The FMC is a 42 year old, plus size, soft bodied warrior of a woman pulling herself together after a toxic marriage and the MMC is a 33 year old rich AF businessman who hasn’t allowed himself to relax since leaving the RAF and becoming successful. Sounds like he needs a soft place to land right?!

You won’t regret giving this a go when it releases (October 7 paperback and October 10 ebook).

Thank you for the ARC @dani_elias_books and @happilybookedpr , all opinions are my own 🖤

Surprise Me Tonight is the first book in the Claimed on Sight series. Stella Marsh is forty-two and in the process of rebuilding her life after divorce. Callum Wright is thirty-three and in the process of making the countryside his home base, ready to slow down for a change. When Stella is hired to be Callum’s PA she thinks it’s the first step to getting her life back on track, but the attraction she feels towards her new boss threatens to derail it. Callum can’t stop thinking about Stella either. Will they be able to keep things professional or will the chemistry between them win out?

I am always a fan of anything I read by Dani Elias and this latest book is no different. I love the fast pace in this book and the storyline. The chemistry between Callum and Stella is great and I enjoyed seeing their romance unfold. Overall this is a good, fast paced novella that is easy to get lost in and quick to get through. If you are looking for a workplace reverse age gap romance this is a good one to check out.

What a fun novella with great plot line.

Callum is a highly successful career driven man who owns his own company but when he starts to feel the burnout he looks to leave London and head to the country.

Stella is the country. Housewife for the past 18 years raising her child and living in a sham of a marriage where she was treated so badly she felt herself become invisible.

Their lives collide when Stella’s sister Fran hears of a PA job for a successful businessman and applies for it for her.

Their first meeting wasn’t great.. it was brief,
in fact he dismisses her entirely, and at her interview she tells him so. There goes the job. Or so she thought….

She gets the job and what follows is a series of events that has both of them questioning if Stella was right to take the job.

Can they work together after he was so dismissive? Can Stella believe she earned and can do this job? Can they keep it professional???

Another 5 star read from Dani. Looking forward to next book.

Quick sweet read with some spice. Callum is the 33 year old CEO of Wright Enterprises and feels like he is missing something in his life despite all his achievements. So he decides to slow his go-go-go pace by moving to the countryside and working from home. With how tiny the village is he is struggling to find a PA. Stella is a 42 year old divorcée who is getting back into the workforce after raising her daughter. Her ex made her feel so small and she stuck around for her daughter but once she left for uni, Stella left her awful ex. Now she needs a good paying job and is interviewing with Callum. Despite them both being attracted to one another they enter this working relationship thinking they have a handle on it-they don’t. They give into that spark and the spice is the best they’ve both had. They’re both cautious but they can’t help falling into lust and then love. A very sweet and steady relationship is formed, proving that your person can always be out there despite your age or how badly you feel lost or broken. I enjoyed it!

“For every woman who's been told she was past her chance at a grand, messy, heart-stopping romance.”
Your are not!

From the dedication I was hooked. Stella is just getting back to her life after a divorce. With her daughter now at Uni she is looking to focus on herself and get back the confidence she lost in her marriage. Callum Wright is looking for an assistant and to slow down in life. As a 33 year old he has moved to a small town and wants to cut down on his hectic work life he's tired of the meetings, politics, power games and endless work and who can blame him. He has hired the people he needs to run his business and just wants to relax. From a run in at the coffee shop neither Stella or Callum knew what they were in for. While Stella comes off as reserved little by little you see her gain her confidence back. She sasses Callum and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Surprise me Tonight has the spice but I think that for me it was the support and understanding that was given. Getting out of a relationship that breaks you mentally and seeing how someone can build your confidence up is what made this read extra special for me.

Callum is a 33 years old billionaire and CEO who needs to leave London to try to relax and just breathe, but trying to find a good PA in the countryside is a little bit complicated so when his PA in London finds him Stella, who is 42 and has a 18 years gap in her CV, he isn't thrilled.

She is beautiful in simple ways and she doesn't falter to express herself to him, so when one morning she arrives in a green wrap dress that show her curves he can't lie to himself he is attached to her. And when that same day he finds her at the local pub being molested by her ex, he just kisses her to prove to him that she isn't past her prime days.

That kiss changes things between them because they have chemistry and maybe they are what they didn't know they needed.

This is a short office romance where the tattooed billionaire helps her feel stronger again and leave her insecurities behind.

Surprise me tonight is a lovely story from the pen of the queen of novellas!
I love that Dani can bring the reader a full story in novella form, and you finish the book feeling completely satisfied.
In this case, we have pretty much insta attraction, on both sides, but its not weird or icky, its just. . . right.
Callum is looking for a more quiet life after following the corporate world for years, and has decided to move to the country. Only problem he has, he needs a PA, and no-one is going to want to commute from the city to the country.
Enter Stella.
Our female lead has taken on the quiet country life, but really needs a job to help get rid of her reliance on her horrible ex, and also its just time.

These two compliment each other perfectly and are wonderful together. I love it when a couple are just meant to be.

This was an ARC copy from Dani. Thank you for letting me read it!

Callum, a rich CEO worn out from city life, relocates to the London countryside and desperately needs a personal assistant. Enter Stella, a divorced mum who has been out of the workforce for a decade after leaving an emotional abuser. Their connection is instant when they meet, and on Stella's first day, Callum is already drawn to her in ways that raise eyebrows. Despite initial concerns about their dynamic, their relationship evolves into a healing journey for both characters.

I loved Stella's no-nonsense attitude and how she gradually reclaimed her confidence. This forbidden workplace romance is filled with heartfelt moments and great supporting characters that make the story shine. Dani Elias really captures their chemistry and the ups and downs of their unexpected bond. The blend of feelings, humor, and charm makes it an enjoyable binge-read, and you'll find yourself cheering for Stella’s journey back to herself!

Surprise Me Tonight by Dani Elias is a short, spicy read that focuses on Callum and Stella. Stella is 42 and Callum, her boss, is in his 30s so we have this delicious taboo office romance and a reverse age gap.

I absolutely loved Surprise Me Tonight. Stella has been through so much with her ex husband and it was so wonderful to see her come into her own and stand on her own two feet. As a 40 something woman I really understood so much of what Stella was feeling…it’s hard not to feel invisible at our age. Again, watching her gain back her confidence was my favorite part of this novella!

The chemistry between Callum and Stella was explosive! I loved them as a couple. Callum really needed someone like Stella in his life. They complimented each other perfectly.

Thank you to Dani Elias for the ARC of this book.
