A wealthy British doctor with an innocent bet: Transform a girl from the streets into a high society mistress.
A sassy Latina who makes the agreement: Pretend to be someone else and get a ticket out of hell.
The rules: No sex. No lies. No falling in love.
As truths become twisted, and passion turns dominant and all-consuming, playing the game becomes playing for keeps. Someone must fall, leaving one question:
Elizabeth writes steamy contemporary and paranormal romance by day, and works as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate by night. The night shift provides never-ending fodder for plots, characters and story lines! When not creating characters or saving lives, she wrangles three demonic children and tends to her heirloom garden in the beautiful Midwest.

I recieved a copy of this book for an honest review.
Things I look for in a great book... Hot British doctor √ Strong determine woman √ Overcoming your past √ Loyalty and strong family ties √
As you can see Elizabeth Otto's The Mistress Experiment has all you could want and them some!
Don't let the name fool you this is in no way a story of infidelity but of a woman who takes control of her life and never lets her dreams die.
When Anamila DePardo decides to volunteer at County hospital just to be near her sick nephew Luis she had no clue her world was going to turn on it's axis.
Dr.Isaac Kimball had been working in the pediatrics unit of the hospital for a while. Catching the eye of every hot blooded nurse in the place gave him no pleasure. He had fought hard to keep his dominant side under wraps because his family business (KML Antiquities) would not survive another blow to it's image! Now that the funding for "Power Play" has been axed from the budget the good Dr. is inclined to accept a bet from his cousin for funding... the expiriment has him thinking of the beautiful. young woman he can't shake from his thoughts. ( his very dark thoughts)
Mila has a decision to make, her last one did not turn out to be a good one. Wonder if this one will be? I got so sucked into this story that the last few chapters I spent wiping tears from my eyes and cleaning my glasses! I was so upset when I thought the happy ever after I was anticicipating got blown out of the water! You have to read it to believe it! I have nothing but love for author Elizabeth Otto and can't wait to read another story!
The Mistress Experiment is far different than her last series and I was apprehensive at first. My very first impression was an erotic Eliza Doolittle and was ready to hate it. Oh boy was I wrong. Elizabeth carried it off masterfully. The start was a little slow, but by the time I was at the point that I either quit reading or am sucked in, I was sucked fully into the book and story.
Mila and Isaac are on diametrically opposed ends of the population and there shouldn't be any reason that they're even in the same place, much less have contact. BUT they are and do and the sparks that fly are amazing even if neither of them want to admit it. The reasons they end up together and Mila's amazement and awe at things that shouldn't be that big of a deal makes it even more fun because Elizabeth writes it so that you too see these things with new eyes. And Isaac, that man is so freakin' perfect. A gentleman, tall, handsome, British and well, as I said, perfect...even if HE thinks he's damaged and below par.
A book that NEEDS to be on you TBR pile and at the top of it. Well done. Oh and as usual, she made me cry. Every book she's written at some point made me bawl my eyes out and this one...my t-shirt was drenched. Good job, Elizabeth.
This was a great fun read, it kind of reminded me of Pretty Woman, just that Mila is not a hooker. But the overall story, poor girl has a business agreement with a rich guy and they end up falling in love You can find my full review here: http://snoopydoosbookreviews.com/mist...
This modern version of My Fair Lady stars Isaac and Mila. Mila has a checkered past, something she is trying desperately to leave behind. When Isaac proposes a way for her to overcome her financial hardships by pretending to be his mistress, in the process transforming her from a poor woman to one acceptable to high British society, she reluctantly agrees. But pretending to be a mistress and actually becoming one are two different things and when the lines get blurred, will Mila and Isaac be able to put their pasts behind them and have a happy ever after together?
I quite enjoyed this story. At the beginning I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, I found the first few chapters to be a bit stilted as the characters were introduced but soon thereafter I found myself hooked on the story and did not want to put it down. I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The backgrounds of both characters were interesting and were key to the story with the rich man/poor woman plot line and the disparity in their lives. The sexual chemistry between Isaac and Mila was evident from the start and when they eventually gave into the attraction between them, the resulting love scenes were steamy and well written. The secondary characters introduced added a lot to the story, giving moments of humour and tension. Overall, I found that I believed in the romance between them and delighted in the happy ending they found together. I hope there will be more stories with some of the secondary characters introduced in this one. 4 stars!
When I first read the summary for The Mistress Experiment, I knew I had to read it. I’m always game for a steamy read involving a HOT doctor, and the hero in this one is also British, so win-win for me.
What I LOVED most about this story is how both Mila and Isaac are such strong characters that go way beyond the “he’s rich, she’s poor” element. Their personalities are complimentary, and they are both selfless individuals who want to work towards a common goal. Dr. Isaac Kimball is a pediatric surgeon at a county hospital in Chicago. Mila DePardo works as a volunteer at the same hospital. They both care for and adore the children there, and, as it turns out, will do anything to keep a particular program funded. The good doctor proposes an arrangement to Mila, and when she accepts to be his mistress, the experiment begins!
The proposition/arrangement aspect of the story is fun and intriguing! While Ms. Otto kept the sexual attraction between Isaac and Mila oozing with heat and scenes super steamy, I just adored how she built their romance. Despite all the obstacles these two faced, I cheered them on right from the beginning. I ended up caring for them so much that my heart tugged all the more near the end.
Elizabeth Otto is a new-to-me author. I’m happy to say that I’m glad I took a chance on this story. This is the first book in a new series. A few characters were introduced that were quite interesting and sort of mysterious to me. I’m hoping we’ll learn more about Isaac’s cousins in the sequels!
Oh My Goodness! Sexy, alpha Englishman Isaac had me gushing and fanning myself constantly. When Isaac’s cousin, Jensen, comes to visit him, he proposes a bet Isaac can't refuse…
Isaac must get a working-class girl, polish her up and convince his peers that she's his mistress. Isaac is, at first, hesitant but then realizes he has the perfect candidate: Mila.
Mila has not had the easiest life, and my heart went out to her because, despite her really trying to make a better life for herself, she still feels the need to help out her family. Well, when Isaac mentions that proposition, she’s also a bit hesitant but decides to go for it.
As I saw Mila transform into someone “better”, I also saw how Isaac tried to remind himself that he was not attracted to her. Try as he may, it was impossible to deny the chemistry they had and, believe me, Isaac really tried denying and fighting it! This story reminded me of a "Cinderella type" because of all that Mila went through, and yet here came her Knight-In-Shining-Armor – sexy as sin Isaac.
This was a SEXY read that had me gushing (in many ways...*wink wink*) and had my Kindle heating up as well. ~ Kara, 4.5 Sinfully Sexy Stars
I was sucked in a pulled under by this book! I don't normally read steamy romance but this one stood out from the crowd. The main characters are flawed but still likable, which is a difficult but important balance for an author to strike. The plot was an intriguing modern take on Pygmalion, the locations were believably written and clearly well-researched, and the romance was super sexy. I don't usually describe romances as page turners, but this one certainly was! Great pacing and a satisfying conclusion.
Anamila (Mila) DePardo burden with taking care of both her mother and sister, as they can’t get their life together. This has made things very hard on Mila as she struggles to keep them all alive. Trying to put her criminal past behind her while in between sneaking a few minutes a couple times a week to see her nephew. Volunteering at the hospital has been the escape she needed. When Dr. Isaac Kimball keeps bumping into her, she can’t help but feel the attraction they have but Mila knows nothing could ever happen between them. After the devastating news of cutbacks at the hospital affecting a beloved program for the kids, Isaac offers her a chance to help get the program back while escaping her life. All she has to do is agree to the mistress experiment that Isaac and his cousin have come up with to prove that anyone can be a mistress. Will the truth behind Mila’s past ruin everything or will they be able to win the mistress experiment and each other?
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. Mila has had a hard life. She’s stuck living with and taking care of her alcoholic mother and prostitute sister. She tried her best to take care of them but that only landed her with a criminal past. She does try hard to get past it and move on but that’s not always easy. I love how she cares for her nephew even though her sister doesn’t. She tries to see him as often as she can without his foster family knowing. What she is willing to do to see him, just shows how much love Mila has to give. To bad her mother and sister don’t see what they are doing to her. Mila takes a risk to save a program that her nephew loves and helps him get through his illness. She comes off more as a mother than an aunt to him. She is a strong-willed, caring person who was dealt a crappy hand. When she agrees to the experiment it changes everything in her life including her mother. What I like best about Mila is the strength she shows that she gives so much of herself and trust people easily that it almost to a fault. She is a very strong woman for what she has had to deal with in her life.
Isaac Kimball may have had an easy life compared to most but with an eccentric father, nothing has been easy. He’s spent most of his adulthood cleaning up after his father. Needing a break, he moved to Chicago to work with kids in the county hospital. This fulfills his need to help others. After seeing Mila in a patients room he feel an attraction that he hasn’t had in a long time. Being a Dominant alpha male, he’s had to watch what he does. After his ex-fiancé accused him of being abusive he has had to hide that side of him, only to have it awaken by Mila. During the experiment, Isaac gets a chance to see how Mila responds to his dominant side. He’s pleasantly surprised that Mila not only likes, but wants it too. She gives him everything he could ever want in a woman but he is concerned that she may not want it for long. You have to give Isaac credit as he is a man who likes to be in control but he can give it up to see to others needs.
The chemistry between Isaac and Mila is off the charts. The fact that they come from two very different backgrounds means they have to work just a little bit harder to keep what they have. With certain expectation of them, they find a way to navigate through. Mila connects well with the important people in Isaac life when she arrives in London. Isaac tries to fight what is happening between him and Mila. She lets things go more naturally and wait to see what Isaac does. I chose this book to review as I found the idea of a Mistress Experiment intriguing and I wasn’t disappointed. Elizabeth explored both social classes beautifully while keeping it very really. I like how she didn’t just have them fall for each other and live happily ever after as that isn’t always the case. These two characters had to work for what they wanted and push to get to where they needed to be. It was left as a cliffhanger and the next book will be a while before it comes out but I’m sure it will worth the wait.
I couldn't resist the premise of this book in a series I'm sure I'll love with all my heart. After I finished it, it's obvious this is a stand-alone so the other books will cover other characters which I assume we meet in the first one. Yay! Because I liked all of them. So, rich man grudgingly accepts a bet from his cousin to turn a poor girl into his mistress in front of posh society in My Fair Lady style. I had to read that! And what a surprise this has been in the best sense of the word. It's what I expected but oh so much more. The author does a great job at establishing a background for her two main characters before the proposal even makes an appearance. Who they are, what darkness and pains they harbour, and how they bump into each other and the sparks start to go wild. The experiment itself doesn't arise just out of sheer lust though. It's a mixture of a bet and a good cause which I found helpful and curious. Of course, there's lust too. Lots and lots of beautifully blossoming attraction. Another fantastic asset of this situation is the way the intimacy grows and heats you up while they start their unconventional agreement. The writing style is subtle, sensitive, gently arousing and deeply insightful. It delves into all the stages of an awkward acquaintance due to the characters' differences and secrets, slow understanding of other person's context, doubts and needs. Then, it explodes into pure sensorial awesomeness. I loved the way Isaac and Mila's encounters become more and more heated as they surrender to their demanding chemistry. He's afraid to let his inner darkness come out of his self-imposed punishment. On the other hand, Mila is keeping dirty secrets about her past and how she came to be volunteering at the hospital where this hot, perfect British doctor works. The bet that binds them as British man and his mistress takes them beyond their dreams but poses a great danger to trust and heart. It's a painful journey to cover up one's dirty deeds while falling in love with a man who can't take her seriously. It made me ache for Mila, but what a wonderful ache! The baptism of fire of this bet takes place at a gala in London. It is approaching the final moment when Isaac will flaunt Mila as his mistress to win the bet. Even though security is high, Mila keeps her past hidden in fear of losing Isaac. The longer she hides, the deeper their feelings run and Isaac's trust is growing. When the truth comes out and that trust is shattered, there's going to be hell to pay for both of them. Oh, I was trembling through these pages with anticipation of the pain and emotional turmoil. It was so good! Right before the gala, there are so many poignant moments. Scenes that are deeply moving and revealing both in terms of character and romance. Still, the secret is kept hidden from Isaac and it was killing me. And then it's all out and the poisoned emotions, the ugly truth, the hurt and the betrayal and the love that cannot be just envelope the reader and swallow them whole. Wow. This story came packed with a lot more depth that I expected. I thought it would be light-hearted or maybe even vain, but far from it. It's passionate and meaningful in plot and characterization. It's about the repercussions of being cast as a second-class lover, what id does to a woman, how she considers herself as such. And the characters! Oh, I fell in love with both of them. Isaac, the rich British gentleman who is exquisitely sensual and flawed, afraid to exert control in his private life in case he's punished for it in his public life. And beautiful, strong, bright Mila, who has such bravery and is living such dire circumstances. Yeah, I loved The Mistress Experiment. Well, I should say yes, always yes ;o)
Dr. Isaac Kimball will melt your panties away with his accent, his brains and his looks – not to mention his way in bed. How can you decline his offer?
He’s a great guy, a pediatric surgeon who tries to help those people who needed his work the most. On the other hand, he too has a darker side, usually confined in the privacy of the bedroom. But after his trust has been broken by one of the person he value the most, he decided to rein it. When a regulation did not allow him to help the charity closest to his heart, a friend offered him a proposition: to transform a woman from the street into a sophisticated mistress who can pass in London high society n exchange for his support to the charity. He thought it was ridiculous until he found the perfect girl – the one who he can’t keep off his mind and challenges him in every way.
Beggars could not be choosers. Poor people, to survive will have to swallow their pride. Mila tried her best not to say yes – his offer was absurd. She already had a bad past, and was trying to live a new life. She wanted a clean slate. When he offers her something to take her away from hell and into the glamorous life in London, lying about who she is was easy. She has been doing it all along. Until, what they have, what supposedly is a show, a pretend turned out to be something real.
What they have is CHEMISTRY. They have a lot of it, and it’s all over the place – but there was this big elephant at the corner of the room, and Mila refused to acknowledge it. It was threatening what they have, I wished she told him earlier, he could have been a little lenient, but no. She chose to keep it. But no secret stays secret for long. One way or the other, truth will come out. And when it did – what they had, what they were building started to crumble down. And it was a little heartbreaking to watch it.
It was desperation that made Mila do things she shouldn’t have done. But her character was strong, and despite her records, possesses a good heart. All she wanted was to take care of the people she love. She might have lied, but she thought she needed to. She will go to any lengths to protect and be with people who are important to her. I wished Isaac could understand that.
I hated him when he broke her heart. He like perfection, and knowing what she did puts her on the imperfect list. I understand that he has a lot on his plate when he came back to London, and when another bomb was dropped into him, he just couldn’t take it anymore. Good thing it didn’t take long before he realized his mistake and did something to rectify it.
Honesty and trust is important in a relationship. A lie, whether by omission or by commission will always be a lie. Even though we did it to protect the people we love, once the truth is out in the open – it will affect the relationship one way or the other.
It’s hot, titillating, sinful and captivating.
The Mistress Experiment is the first book in the series. I thought it would end in a cliffhanger, and imagine my relief when it didn’t. Thank goodness! I love the way it ended. It was a relief. I was hooked from page 1, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with Isaac and Mila. It was a wild journey with these two, and I’m just glad they both got what they deserve at the end.

First of all, thank you to author Elizabeth Otto for gifted Collector of Book Boyfriends with The Mistress Experiment (Mistress series #1) arc!
I think that the book description for this book does it no justice! I LOVED The Mistress Experiment! I had a hard time putting this book down. Isaac and Mila’s characters were instantly lovable.
Isaac is a British pediatric doctor from London, who came to Chicago to get away from his eccentric, bipolar father and a personal dilemma that is threatening his livelihood and his family’s business, “KML Antiquities”. Even after disappearing to Chicago, Isaac still feels torn in two. On one hand, he is this professional, pediatric doctor that loves his job, but has no love life and then on the other hand, he also has this side that craves dominance. But after negative past experiences with previous lovers, he hides that side away…until Mila. “She made him feel like both sides had come together for the first time.” She saw past his mask and knew there was something he was burying deep within. “Is there someone else you want to be, Isaac? Maybe someone who isn’t always such a gentleman?” (Mila). Can she make Isaac feel complete for once in his life?
After meeting Mila for the first time and getting to know a little about her, he realizes that they both could benefit from this ridiculous bet his cousin propositioned him with: show up to his (cousin’s) holiday gala in London with a mistress and convince everyone she’s Isaac’s lover and if he successfully did this, his cousin would donate a huge sum of money to the hospital. This bet would benefit her by getting her “off the streets” and it would be benefitting him professionally.
Can they pull this bet off? Can they do so without building feelings? Can they resist their sexual attraction? Can they bring open with each other and not have any secrets and lies?
There is so much more to this story than meets the eye. Did I already say I loved this book? Well I do! I was SO excited to see there will be 2 more books in this series…the epilogue in The Mistress Experiment was not enough of a “closure” for me. I cannot wait to read more about Isaac and Mila!
5 stars!!
Book #2 “Becoming his Mistress” (Summer 2015) Book #3 “Seducing his Mistress” (October 2015)
“Most of her life had been spent on emotional neutral. She had no idea if she had a switch to anything else on.”
5 Shiny Stars
The Mistress Experiment is the perfect blend of emotion, sexiness, conflict and romance. Having been waiting for this book, since I heard of its impending release, I was beyond ready to dive in and devour this story.
The Mistress Experiment is layered, meticulously written, and executed flawlessly. Not just another love story about two deliciously damaged and flawed characters, Otto gives us a refreshing and addictive spin to the age old story of falling in love with someone from the opposite side of the tracks. Mila DePardo is a woman on a mission, poor and struggling to provide for her family; Isaac Kimball is an extremely wealthy and successful surgeon. These two are completely closed off to the idea of love, neither one of them focused on anything other than their everyday routines. Their mundane existence is flipped on its head, when a physical attraction is unable to be denied. Given the opportunity to save a children’s charity that is important to them both, an experiment is proposed. It seems like a perfect solution to both of their problems, obtain funding for the charity, and explore the unexplainable attraction between them. Setting ground rules, makes Mila and Isaac both feel secure in the fact that they’re invulnerable to each other. We all know how that goes, rules are meant to be bent, stretched and twisted, especially when emotions come into play.
“In the shadowy light of his room two days ago, she’d had her first experience of being overwhelmed by a man.”
Mila and Isaac are both familiar with exercising control in their lives, and denying their desires, but the chemistry and pull towards each other is not going to be denied, no matter the risk. When the carefully constructed walls they have both lived behind for longer than they can remember begin to crack, it’s evident their lives will never be the same.
“Each time he ran into Mila, Isaac had the sensation he was embraced by a force of nature. Energy, resilience and subtle beauty combined into one element that left him feeling he’d just wandered through a confusing, yet refreshing storm.”
Otto managed to give me all the feels; in this book you get the total package. You’ll run the entire spectrum of emotions while consuming this book. I loved the characters, the writing, and the experience. With a story that is so much more than what you’d expect, Otto more than delivers. The Mistress Experiment is more than just another love story; it’s a brilliantly crafted slice of book bliss.
4.5 STARS This story takes the age old tradition of a man taking a Mistress and puts a modern day twist on it. Isaac is not married but is no stranger to having a Mistress although it's been years since he's been in that sort of relationship. After being betrayed & blackmailed by his ex fiancé, Isaac moves half way across the world, starting over but hiding his true self from others and avoiding intimacy with women.
Mila has had a hard life, doing whatever she has had to do to support her family and survive she ended up paying the ultimate price and now has a criminal record to prove it. She is now on the straight and narrow but desperately seeks a better life for herself, but poverty can be a hard cycle to break out of. My heart really felt for Mila and the life she had been dealt.
When Isaac & Mila's paths cross, Isaac can't help but proposition Mila to help with what has been deemed the Mistress Experiment. It's a simple bet he has made with his cousin for a worthy cause and a bit of fun, but Isaac has no idea that the Mistress Experiment will turn into so much more.
While Mila & Isaac navigate the rules of a modern Mistress, Mila senses there is more behind the man that Isaac presents to the world and encourages his wild side to come out. Isaac is weary at first but feels like the part of him that's been locked away for so long can be freed when he's with Mila.
Scared that Isaac will not understand her past, Mila stays quiet knowing that in the long term he'll be better off. When her secret is ultimately revealed, hearts are broken, trust is misplaced and reputations are put in question. Will they be able to recover or will one of them walk away....... I recommend you read and find out ;)
Can we ever out run the errors of our past? Are they really errors or just reminders that we are human after all and bound to make mistakes. In the end, we should be able to make mistakes, learn from them, and pursue a better path in life.
Mila has had her share of troubles. From a very young age, she was forced to take care of both her mother and her sister. Her mother's drinking and her sister's loose life have both been the reason she made choices she regrets now. Going to prison for stealing money from the her sister's lover, in order to feed the child their union produced, is not an excuse the law takes as evidence of innocence. Her entire life has been burdened with the need to provide for her family and survive. No time to dream or plan out a future for herself.
Isaac is the handsome pediatric surgeon that crosses paths with Mila at the hospital where she volunteers. Their attraction and need for a loving relationship, is something they fight because they both feel it would never work out.
Isaac makes a bet; Mila is willing to help; and in the end, these two are thrown together in the Mistress Experiment. Think Pygmalion or even better, think My Fair Lady. The road to successfully wining this bet and Mila's transformation makes this story a heartfelt journey as Isaac and Mila discover each other.
Well written, adorably candid, and heartfelt are the words that immediately come to mind to describe this story. We are promised two more stories in this series with publication dates in 2015. Can't wait to read what awaits us next.
I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review. This book comes out November 14th. You must put it on your TBR list. You will not be disappointed.
I LOVED this book! This is book 1 in a new series so you get brief introductions to a cast of characters some are just a pass by others have bigger roles. This book shows you that life is not all roses and rich or poor people/families have issues.
The story line and the push and pull of Isaac and Mila were stressful at times. The way they both tried to ignore what was happening for totally different reasons. The way they totally grew to fall “in love” and finally admit it to each other although not in the best of circumstances! You will laugh, shake your head, swallow the lump in your throat and yes want to throw your book, especially when everything finally comes out. You will love how strong and caring Isaac is but you will also want to punch him! You will see his family loyalty and his reasoning (although crazy) and why he feels he has to do what he does. How Mila was always looking out for everyone else especially Luis and her mom even her sister before herself and all along all she was looking for was someone to take care of her to love her for her. Mila will once again put Isaac ahead of herself and walk away to in her eyes spare him her past. You will be turning the pages to see if the HEA happens or if a sense of family will keep them apart. I cannot wait for book 2.
This review is from: The Mistress Experiment (Mistress series Book 1) (Kindle Edition) This is book 1 of this series. It is well written and characters are well defined!!! Dr Isaac Kimball is a sexy, hot, British pediatric surgeon with a dark, kinky side he keeps hidden usually in the bedroom. After sharing his darker side with his last relationship it ended badly, know he refuses to let his heart feel anything! Until he met Mila, A sassy, spunky street smart almost homeless woman, who is working hard to keep her dysfunctional family together. His board, rich cousin proposes a bet to help fund Isaac's pediatric charity- turn a woman with no means from the streets into a sophisticated English Mistress( in the states "The Other Woman") before he returns to London in a few weeks, it must be believed by all of London's high society. Mila cares about this charity so Isaac tells her about the bet in hopes he can help her, while she helps him. She wants to say no, but cold, hungry and almost homeless living in a shelter-- YES was the only answer! The chemistry they shared made it hard to maintain the fake relationship and the more time they spent together the sparks lead to the bedroom! She was finding it hard to not have feeling and she would do almost anything to make him happy including helping with his dark kinky side and liking it!! Mila protects those she cares about at all costs!!!!!! THE JOURNEY BEGINS.............. Looking forward to book #2, easy to get hooked!!!!!!!
Falling in love while trying to keep things nonpersonal and buisnesslike isnt always easy as these two find out. A rich British Doctor with a secret dominate side pairs with an woman with a record who dreams of turning her life around.
Mila might have spent some time in jail three years ago but that isn't who she is or wants to be. Poor and struggling is just the way of life when your mother is a drunk and sister a drug dealing prostitute.
Issac has been fixing every problem and issue his family and ex have thrown at him. He can't deal with any more bad press or KML is done for. An essecntric father lying blackmailing ex tends to make trusting an issue with him.
There are other characters like Jensen who starts this whole powerplay mistress bet and others but Issac and Mila and their 'relationship' had my complete focus.
I enjoyed this story it had some good drama and rather exciting intimate scenes with a taste of control giving and taking. It was overall a sweet sexy story of falling in love and being true to yourself. Loved the plot and characters and really did enjoy the read.
I recieved a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Mila has spent her life taking care of her family. Between her drinking way too much mom and her prostitute sister with a baby she couldn't raise, Mila has had her hands full. Her refuge is the time that she spends volunteering at the hospital where she spends time with a little boy. This is where she meets Isaac who is a doctor there. There is definitely some serious chemistry happening between them and Isaac asks for her help to win a bet by becoming his mistress. At first it is a rouse, but their true feelings for each other come out the more time they spend together. When she accompanies him to a trip home, Mila's secret comes out and Isaac has to decide which Mila he loves...her true self or the one he created to win the bet.
I so loved Mila's heart. She wanted so much to help those around her. I loved that she found her heartbeat with those children in London. Mila and Isaac were scorching hot together especially when he left that gentleman outside. I couldn't stop reading their story and left the last page wanting more.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mila has experienced hardship and poverty her entire life and has struggled to keep her family afloat. Along the way she has made some bad choices however that is all behind her and she is trying to do some good.
Isaac is fighting against the man he is due to past experiences and trying to protect his position and family.
When the 2 of them meet some choices need to be made. Neither of them want to compromise their views but fate will ultimately decide.
Acting for the interests of others both agree to a bet that sees both of them adapting and allowing themselves to be who they are.
I liked both Mila and Isaac, identifying with the need to adapt to the ideals of others whilst struggling to retain their identity. I would have liked more background information on both to give more depth but this is just personal preference.
A very good read that was difficult to put down. I would definitely recommend.
An ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Elizabeth Otto is a new author for me. The description of this book definitely caught my eye so I jumped at the chance to try for an ARC. I am happy to say that the book surpassed my expectations. I have a weakness for British characters and Isaac was a quick favorite for me as I read. I loved how reserved and in control he was. It made it all the more exciting once he lost some of that iron held control later in the book. Mila took awhile for me to warm up to. I liked her spunk and how selfless she was, always looking out for those around her, but I got frustrated with her at times because she was almost too selfless, much to her detriment. I very much enjoyed the slow build up of feelings between Isaac and Mila. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and am looking forward to revisiting with them in future books in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and getting to know the main characters, Isaac and Mila. I loved Mila's strength and how she refused to give up even under the direst circumstances. Isaac was a treat because not only was he a gentleman (hot and dominant), he took some time to figure out what was going on in his heart and ultimately didn't let anything get in his way.
I especially liked when Mila happened upon the Mistresses book. It was very intriguing and gave us a little insight into how much society affects our thought-processes about class systems and their inter-workings.
This little book had me running through a gamut of emotions and I cannot wait for the next one in the series. Thanks for sharing this with us Elizabeth!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. I fell in love with Mila! She is strong, compassionate, and a feisty Latina!! the scenes at the hospital with her nephew had me in tears.
Dr. Isaac Kimball is the hot British pediatrician. Hmm, a hot doc with an accent, loves kids and an alpha to boot!! Put these two characters together and boom -- let the chemistry begin!
I enjoyed watching the characters grow and learn from each other. Two people from two different worlds, overcoming their flaws and pasts and finding love where you least expect it.
I always said there is just a bit of sanity in the craziness. After reading this novel the statement could not be truer. I really felt for the character of Mila and her struggles to survive and be a good person to the one person she loved from birth. Elizabeth gave great detail in the struggles of living life in poverty and trying to just survive day to day. This has a HEA, but has realistic qualities that say "Yes, one day I'll get past this".
I can't wait to see what's around the corner for Mila and Isaac. The scene with his read silk tie was one of my favorites and can't wait to see how this relationship blossoms.
This book is vastly different from the others I have read by this author and I started reading it with a bit of apprehension. A quarter of the way through the book all the apprehension was gone and I couldn't put it done. Mila is from the streets and does what she needs to do to get by. She longs for a way to get ahead. Issac seems to have it all. Wealthy, successful, handsome and very mysterious. But he craves so much more. This is a very sexy read that was completely entertaining. I highly recommend it.
I LOVED Isaac and Mila's story. Besides the fact that Mila was a compatriot of mine :) the story was fantastically developed and written. This is my first from Elizabeth but it certainly won't be my last. The imagery was on point. The dialogue flowed smoothly. The internal conflict was real. It was a glimpse into the lengths good people have to go to protect their own. I love that premise. The chemistry between Isaac and Mila is off the charts and the love scenes prove it with some HOT action. I totally recommend this book. I can't wait to see other characters through Elizabeth's eyes!
This is a really great story. First book I've read by Elizabeth and I have to say she has gained a new reader. I highly recommend you give her a try you won't be disappointed. Loved the characters. I did want to smack Isaac a few times though, but he does redeem himself. What a strong character Mila is. Changing her life after all the hardships she endured in her life. Couldn't be happier reading her journey to her HEA.
Seems I am in the minority on this one. Perhaps, I my expectations were too high, but I didn't feel a strong connection between Isaac and Mila until the very end of the book. I did like Mila - she is a strong and honorable woman but Isaac was not as steamy as I hoped. Even though the experiment was mutually agreed upon, it bothered me that Mila was treated as a mistress upon their arrival to London. Overall, my rating is 3.25 stars.
I received a ARC of this book and I was absolutely blown away. This story is engrossing and amazingly hot. Isaac is a Dr in the need of a mistress. Mila is the lady that fits the bill. will the hidden secrets tear them apart or bring them together. I could not put this book down it is utterly enthralling and just a little different from the norm. Highly recommend this book.
this kinda of like a Cinderella story meets pretty woman. Issac is a hot docter who has a big heart and big pockets. Mila who has a past is poor, but has a golden heart. These two characters are wonderful the love you feel from them makes you root for them. this was a great read. I was given this book for an honest review and I was not disappointed.
As someone who's not a target romance reader, I'm constantly impressed with Otto's talent for creating characters who you can actually care about as well as being a dab hand with all the hotness! Love this book!
