Redwood Pack #7

Wicked Wolf

Rate this book
The war between the Redwood Pack and the Centrals is one of wolf legend. Gina Eaton lost both of her parents when a member of their Pack betrayed them. Adopted by the Alpha of the Pack as a child, Gina grew up within the royal family to become an enforcer and protector of her den. She’s always known fate can be a tricky and deceitful entity, but when she finds the one man that could be her mate, she might throw caution to the wind and follow the path set out for her, rather than forging one of her own.

Quinn Weston’s mate walked out on him five years ago, severing their bond in the most brutal fashion. She not only left him a shattered shadow of himself, but their newborn son as well. Now, as the lieutenant of the Talon Pack’s Alpha, he puts his whole being into two things: the safety of his Pack and his son.

When the two Alphas put Gina and Quinn together to find a way to ensure their treaties remain strong, fate has a plan of its own. Neither knows what will come of the Pack’s alliance, let alone one between the two of them. The past paved their paths in blood and heartache, but it will take the strength of a promise and iron will to find their future.

Wicked Wolf by Carrie Ann Ryan

The Redwood wolf pack and the Talon wolf pack have formed an alliance and Gina and Quinn are on the task force to help the clan members commingle.
It’s instant attraction for Gina and Quinn and their inner wolves, but Quinn’s past has left scars and as a man he wants nothing to do with Gina.
From 1001 Dark Nights series. Can be read as a standalone.

Gina is powerful, dominant, and confident in who she is. She steps up time after time. You go girl! However...Gina and Quinn both needed to be more confident in themselves in love. There is a lot of denial and self doubt before they resolve it.

4.5 but downgraded because:
I read a printed copy of this book. As with other books I’ve read by this author, I enjoy the story immensely, but the proofreading is dismal. Simple context editing should catch “form” where it should be “from”. Catching a least a half dozen of these errors in a finished printed copy sends the other unread books I own by the author to the bottom of my tbr if not simply out the door unread. It's a shame because the stories themselves could be riveting if better editing was done.

Intrigued to read the series now.

Wicked Wolf was a short, but nice, novella to dive into. It's always interesting to see two groups, or more, start off one different sides of something.. just to come together towards the end of the book. It makes my heart happy and it always makes the book fly by.

In this book, you will meet two wolf packs - Redwood and Talon. Interesting to get a Talon wolf pack since I was just listening to a Talon dragon pack. To say that my brain was completely okay with all of this - it wasn't and that would be a lie.

Then came Gina and Quinn - ugh they were adorable. Of course things didn't start off well but we all knew how things were going to end between them. Couldn't help but ship them because they were both so likable. In the end, I wanted these two packs to merge into an even bigger bad ass one and I was completely happy with how this one ended.

This story had me in tears. So many emotions through out the story that kept me up late into the night reading. I finished this story the same night I started it. This story is at the top of my favorites written by Carrie Ann Ryan. One that I will reread again. One that will stick with me and one that I will not forget.

Quinn is a lieutenant for the Talons. He is a father. His son has not been a healthy kid since his mate Helena broke their bond five years ago. Causing Quinn to dislike and hate witches. He never wants to mate again. He had one, who broke his heart, tore his soul apart, and hurt his son.

Gina is a half witch half wolf. She lost her parents in the war with the Centrals and was adopted into the Redwood Alpha's family. She has seen parts of her future. She will become an Enforcer for the Redwoods.

Both Gina and Quinn's Alphas put them working together on a council. A council that they are building that will help both their packs work together. To build trust between them all. Gina feels a pull towards Quinn. She is drawn to him from the first meeting. Quinn cannot get Gina, The little wolf, out of his mind. He keeps thinking about her and he does not want to. He will do his job for the pack. He will work with her.

When Quinn's son takes a turn for the worst things change. Quinn would do anything to heal is son, even if it means finding another mate.
Gina cannot stand by and do nothing. Jesse is a pup and deserves a chance. "What she was about to agree to was going to kill a small part of her."
It was for Jesse.
Can Quinn let go of his past and see what his future can be? Gina wanted a family and a mate. Will she make it through?
Can they come together and make this bonding/mating work?

3.5*
Gina was adopted by the Redwood's Alpha after her parents'death. Her wolf is dominant and she is on track to be one of the Pack's Enforcers. She is also part witch (from her mother) and has to deal with some of the Pack's mistrust of witches. Quinn is part of the Talon Pack. The Alpha's of each bring select members together to form a council with the goal of bringing the 2 Packs closer.
Gina and Quinn are picked by their respective Packs to head the council. This starts out with them being distrustful before moving to more. They do start to work together. Gina is strong and brave and puts her feelings out there. Quinn behaves like an asshole and is called out on it. He does take longer to admit to said feelings, in part because of his history (his mate broke him when she left him and their child).
Even though this is part of a series, I didn't feel lost or like I was missing anything.

My review:
Wicked Wolf is book number eight in author Carrie Ann Ryan’s Redwood Pack series as well as the first in the 2015 1,001 Dark Nights Novella line-up. I have read only one other of author Ryan’s work and after enjoying it tremendously, and being a huge fan of the 1,001 Dark Nights series, I was excited to read this novella. Well, I wasn’t disappointed and now have another series I will be following. This story was fantastic.

Members of different packs, both Gina and Quinn have suffered their own heartache and loss separately. Gina having lost both of her parents and Quinn having lost his mate, they weren’t strangers to feeling great pain. It’s that former pain that leads them both a bit leery of forming future relationships. But fate, that fickle gal, always has a plan and soon Gina and Quinn find themselves in quite a situation. After being asked to work together to make sure the treaty between the packs remains strong and only continues to grow, they soon find they may actually be fated mates. Ordinarily that would be great news, but Quinn isn’t able to let go of the painful loss from years earlier. Enter fate agin. Soon Quinn is faced with yet another possible loss and it’s a loss only Gina can help prevent. The loss of his son. Lucky for Quinn, Gina won’t let that happen and before he realizes it, the bond he once feared is the bond he now craves. The problem is, Quinn hadn’t exactly welcomed Gina with open arms in the beginning and now that he wanted her, she may not want him.

With so much at stake for both packs, and now for both Quinn and Gina personally, will the bond they are meant to form grow into a truly loving relationship?

From the very first few pages, the pull between Quinn and Gina was palpable. Nether wanted to acknowledge it at first, but there was no denying what was happening between them and it was amazing to read. I loved the push and pull of emotions and I loved being inside of each characters head and to read their inner monologue. It gave us a real feel for their emotions. Oh, and the chemistry between them once things heat up? Beyond smoking hot!

On top of the amazing characters, I love how Carrie Ann keeps the pack dynamics true to how wolves interact in nature. I once visited a wolf sanctuary close to my home and I was so fascinated with the mannerisms of the Alphas and their packs. It is truly an amazing dynamic and that they all communicate without words is almost magical. Carrie Ann wrote her characters in such a way that it was easy to lose yourself in the paranormal wolf world and, even if for just a moment, believe that somewhere out there a world like this could truly exist. That, to me, is a gift.

I will be looking forward to reading more of this series as well as going into Ms. Ryan’s backlist to enjoy more of the Redwood Pack. Thank you, Ms. Ryan, for a magical and fantastic read!

A passionate, heartfelt and wonderfully witchy paranormal shifter romance...

Quinn would do anything for his son.
Including mate the one person he refused to want.
Her.

1001 DARK NIGHTS: WICKED WOLF by Carrie Ann Ryan is the first book I've ever read by this author, but, after inhaling it this afternoon, I plan to check out her other books soon. I received this novella as one of my goodies in my check-in bag at the Coastal Magic Convention; I hereby send out a fervent thanks to the universe to whoever was responsible for placing this book in my bag as I really enjoyed it. I've read that this book was multi-purposed; It was meant to serve as an introduction to her writing, to both her Redwood Pack and her Talon Pack series and also as a bridge between the two series.

Obviously, since I've not read any of her other books, this installment works well as a standalone. It riveted my attention from the first page all the way through to the last. There were interconnected characters with her other books, but I never felt lost as the author seamlessly provided all the information I needed to fully enjoy this story.

This was the tale of two wolf-shifters in two neighboring packs: Quinn Weston, a lieutenant in the Talon Pack, and Gina Eaton, a wolf-witch hybrid destined to be the Enforcer of the Redwood Pack. Quinn has essentially been a broken man since his mate broke their mating bond with the assistance of a dark witch five years ago. He and his son both almost died because of his mate's betrayal. Now, as the Redwood and Talon packs strive to more closely align their packs, he finds himself inextricably drawn to Gina. Because he was wronged by that witch years ago, he can never allow himself to trust another witch.

Gina finds herself drawn to the gorgeous, heavily-inked shifter. But, his intense gaze on her is not a friendly one. With her heart at risk, can she survive being around this alpha male?

Fear and betrayals may very well circumvent any chance at happiness for this couple. They had scintillating chemistry; but, will their fears and past betrayals prevent them from opening their hearts to a better future? Fasten your seatbelt for an emotional roller coaster ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed Carrie's writing. It exuded emotion which was perfect for this story. The book did not feel rushed as sometimes happens with short reads and the characters and story were fully developed even though the book was a relatively quick read. I would highly recommend 1001 DARK NIGHTS: WICKED WOLF to anyone who enjoys bewitching, passionate and heartfelt paranormal shifter romances.

Carrie Ann Ryan ... you slay me. Half way through reading my husband had to ask if I was okay because I was bawling. I had to stop to calm myself, yes, I sound so drama but it is true. This is like Fighting Fate all over again (the bawling, I mean). I wanted to throttle Quinn. I get where he was coming from, I really do but still, that was such a dick move. Reading Wicked Wolf is so bittersweet to me, I love this series and I loathe to say goodbye. I am, however, looking forward to Talon pack and the ominous undercurrent that's brewing.

I know I'm not much of a reviewer, this is my first attempt. If you have yet to read this series or if you're undecided then I say, get the entire series. You will not regret it. Ms Carrie Ann Ryan is one helluva writer. She'll slay you like she did me but you keep going back for more.

"You're my witch, my wicked witch," he panted. She met his gaze and let the tears fall at his words. The love in the word that had once hurt her made her fall in love with him all over again. She cupped his face, rocking her hips so she could feel every inch of him. "You're my wicked wolf, Quinn. My wolf. My everything."

Quinn is broken because his mate had a witch sever their bond and his son is sick because of it as well. Gina can't understand why Quinn hates her. Until she tells him that she's his potential mate, does Quinn reject because she's part witch. Quinn devastates Gina by rejecting her but Gina is the only one who can save his son. Quinn finally sees what he and Gina can have together but will Gina be able to forgive him. Great read!!

A Peak At The Future

How totally awesome to read a story that shows us how the children of the Jameson's have grown up. I have to admit a little sadness thinking about the former Alpha Couple. However, it is quite obvious that Kade and Mel did alright on the procreating end of things and are moving the Pack forward as the new Alphas. I also love this Talon-Redwood collaboration. It is good for both Packs and leads to some really interesting outcomes. I wish there were more in this series so that we get to know the next generation of Jamesons. As for the Redwood talon alliance, I hope they all find their mates!

building trust

The Redwoods and Talons have decided to create a council to try and bring the two packs together and start the process of trusting each other. They put Gina from the Redwoods and Quinn from the Talons as the leaders of the council. They add two others from each pack. Gina learns that Quinn is her mate, but doesn’t know if he knows. Then Quinn’s son makes a turn for the worst. They think if his father mates it might form a bond to strengthen Jesse. Can they make the bond work? Will the past try to destroy everything? Come on in and find out.

I received this book from the library. I have not read any of the series and I was not lost. I enjoyed Gina, strong, independent, willing to put her self out there, take a risk. Loved her. Quinn I understood, but I was so with Walker when he bitched slapped Quinn (verbally). I enjoyed this so much I will have to read the rest of the series! Plot, romance, action, and the sex (which many loved) was not constantly in my face. Though no holding back when they did. Ha!

How totally awesome to read a story that shows us how the children of the Jameson's have grown up. I have to admit a little sadness thinking about the former Alpha Couple, Edward and Pat, as they were a true force of nature. However, it is quite obvious that Kade and Mel are moving the Pack forward as the new Alphas and did alright on the procreating end of things. Their parents would be so proud of how well they are taking care of the Pack and one another. I also love this Talon-Redwood collaboration. It is good for both Packs and leads to some really interesting outcomes. I wish there were more in this series so that we get to know the next generation of Jamesons. As for the Redwood- Talon alliance, I hope they all find their mates!

This was so good. Quinn and Gina are serving on the newly formed council to pull the Redwood and Talon packs together. Her wolf recognizes him as her mate. He will not acknowledge her, because his last mate broke their bonds and nearly kills him and his baby boy, Jesse. Can they work through this? I enjoyed the story very much.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
A powerful bridge between Redwood and Talon Packs, Gina and Quinn’s story is packed with tension, chemistry, and the kind of emotional depth that sticks with you. Their journey through past wounds and hesitant hope was the perfect way to end this sprawling, heartfelt series.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun read that gave us an introduction to the next generation as they are grown/growing up. I loved the little introduction to the Talon pack as well. The characters were great and held my attention from beginning to end.
