When dude ranch wrangler Charlotte – aka Charlie – Randall kisses Zack Harris in an act of empathy, she falls hat over spurs for the handsome military veteran turned cowboy. Zack has too many demons, however, and refuses to get involved. A year later, he's still stonewalling, and Charlie needs to move on with her life so she can find a fulfilling relationship, not frustrating unrequited love. Putting distance between them seems the best way to get Zack out of her head and heart...but that means quitting the job she loves and accepting a position in Colorado.
He didn’t mean to kiss her back…
Growing up, Zack longed for a real family, and had one with his squad while deployed in Afghanistan. Now, he's back in the States and doesn't want anything messing up his new ranch family, no matter how much he's attracted to the sexy, hard-working Charlie. She could break his heart and ruin the comfortable working relationship they and the other wranglers enjoy. Besides, her friends claim she's looking for the perfect guy, and perfect he's not.
A kiss is just a kiss…or is it?
When Zack learns Charlie's thinking about leaving the ranch, he decides to find her a boyfriend — someone so good, so perfect, she has a reason to stay in Montana. Until he realizes too late that the only cowboy he wants her kissing is him. Can he commit to love and convince Charlie not to leave? Or has she made up her mind to put the past, and the kiss that started it all, behind her and move on without him?
Montana Born Rodeo Series Book 1: Tease Me, Cowboy by Rachael Johns Book 2: Cherish Me, Cowboy by Alissa Callen Book 3: Kiss Me, Cowboy by Melissa McClone
I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, two daughters, son, dog and too many cats! I write "sweeter" contemporary romance novels for Harlequin and Tule Publishing.
Kiss Me Cowboy by Melissa McClone is book three in the Montana Born Rodeo series. For some reason I am in love with books about Montana Cowboys and this book came through on every level. The scenery, the cowboys (sigh), the horses, the cowboys. Oops, did I say cowboys already?!
Charlotte aka Charlie Randall is 26 years old and has lived at the Bar V5 since she graduated from high school. She didn’t have the most stable of upbringings and loves the life she has built here for herself. She has worked hard to gain the respect of the other wranglers and they see her as Charlie, one of the guys. That was ok for awhile but she is feeling the need for something more. She is ready to fall in love, have a family. Well, actually, she already did fall in love, the feeling just isn’t reciprocated. One year ago when Zack needed someone to talk to, sitting under the tree by the stream, they shared a kiss which led to many more kisses that night. But Zack has a strict no dating people he works with policy, so that was the end of it, for Zack anyway.
“She’d tried moving past her attraction but so far no luck. She’d fallen cowboy hat over spurs, fallen hard like a hoof to the chest. No Cupid’s arrow needed. L-O-V-E.”
Zack Harris is an army veteran. His army buddies were his family. His own parents weren’t what one would call good parents. But during an attack, a mistake was made and lives were lost. Zack has been at the Bar V5 for two and a half years now. The people here are now his family. He can’t let anything change that, not even his attraction to Charlie. It would ruin everything. So when Charlie starts talking about leaving the ranch and moving to Colorado to work, he decides that he needs to find her a boyfriend here so she won’t leave. But he can’t stand the thought of any other guy touching her.
“You’ve worked with Charlie for two and a half years.” He’d known Charlie for that long, but he’d only just met Charlotte.”
This was a super sweet story about overcoming your past and allowing yourself the chance at your own happily ever after. The story is told from both Zack and Charlie’s points of view so we get inside both of their heads. Zack doesn’t feel he has anything to offer and Charlie is afraid no one else will ever measure up to what she feels for Zack.
We also get to see a little bit more of Caitlin and Noah and Caitlin’s little kitten, Mistletoe from Melissa’s book, Mistletoe Magic. I absolutely fell in love with that little Christmas novella and was so thrilled to get the chance to revisit these characters.
This was a quick and enjoyable feel good story which is exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much to Melissa McClone, NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review**
Zack had a rule--don't date coworkers. But one night he let Charlie (Charlotte) kiss him while consoling him over the death of a friend. It felt good, but not enough to break his rule. Over time, Charlie has wanted more, but knows about the rule. She can't stand being close to him, so she starts looking for another job. Zack, not realizing she's really into him, offers to help her find someone to love in order to will keep her on the ranch. She reluctantly agrees, but everyone falls short of Zack. And, they keep finding themselves in situations where they end up kissing--both feeling the spark.
Charlie takes a chance and tells him she loves him, but Zack has put up a wall--though he knows he loves her, too--to protect himself from losing himself in love. He's afraid to take a chance on love, family beyond the "ranch family," and commitment because of his dysfunctional past and a tragic incident when he was deployed. He starts seeing her more as a woman as she starts dressing less like one of the guys, and a little more feminine. Losing Charlie to a job at another ranch wakes him up to the reality of love and what it's worth.
I loved how this couple finally figured it out to take a chance on love and the happily ever after!
The prologue was nice, made my ears twitch (metaphorically speaking), made me pay attention. Then the attention curve plummeted, and finally completely blinked out somewhere in the middle of the book. And I just couldn't go on.
I. Didn't. Care.
I knew what would happen, of course. I knew how it would end. I just couldn't be bothered with getting there. Because there was just too much thrown into it. Stuff I didn't care. The hero talking to his horse about the heroine while inspecting fences. The heroine musing, and musing, and musing, and endlessly musing about the kiss she and the hero shared in the prologue, about how the hero didn't care for her, about how she wanted no one else but the hero... Well, girl, do something! Open your mouth and speak! Be proactive instead of bemoaning your fate!
And the musing wasn't done solely on the heroine's part. There was the hero bemoaning his fate, constantly thinking about his crap parents (following the if-my-parent-were-crap-I-cannot-be-anything-but logic), about his inability or unwillingness to commit (again the crap-parents thing)...Yadda yadda yadda!
And the whole fixing-the-heroine-up-so-she-wouldn't-leave ploy was just idiotic. Maybe if the book was shorter, I don't know, by half, it would've been funny instead of pitiful.
Charlie (Charlotte) Randall may be a cowgirl, but she's first and foremost a woman. She wants Zack Harris, a fellow wrangler, to realize that. She is infatuated with him. Rather than go through daily torture, she is considering leaving her job at the Bar V5 and moving to Colorado. Zack doesn't want her to leave. He needs his "family'. He hasn't recovered from the emotional trauma of Afghanistan. Do these two have a future? Charlie is a feisty heroine who is realistic in her expectations. She cares for those around her and is a wonderful friend. Zack is an honorable man. He won't hurt Charlie. These two have feelings for each other. I wanted it to lead to a HEA. Marietta and her Rodeo are a perfect setting for romance. I always enjoy reading more about the people who live here. The secondary characters make me smile. I love seeing their interconnection. Melissa McClone has written the perfect, feel-good story. I laughed at the antics of Arrow. What a rogue. Reading Kiss Me, Cowboy made my day!

The Billionaire’s Nanny this novella is part of the Montana Born Rodeo series:
Ever had one of those relationships that is comfortable and then something happens to upset the apple cart. Zach and Charlie have that type of relationship. She is his sunshine. Then one night she comforts home at his lowest and the cards turn, but to hold on to what you have, you deny the chemistry, because you are so scared to lose the person. Charlie "Charlotte" can't survive seeing Zach out with others or not giving them the opportunity to have a relationship. She is torn with moving on and the place she has learned to call home, the Bar V5 and Marietta, MT.
Zach is scared she is going to leave and he doesn't want her to. She is part of his family, but he won't give on his rule you don't date co-workers.
The sparks will fly, emotions are heated and decisions are tough. You will enjoy how Zach and Charlie both find their way and happiness resides.
Charlie works on a ranch in Montana with a bunch of guys. The problem arises when she finds herself attracted to a fellow worker. Zach swears he will never get involved with someone he works with. No exceptions. Charlie finds it increasingly difficult to work with Zach and deny her feelings. Melissa McClone captures the tender emotions of a young lady faced with tough decisions. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of the series.
That is, if the tags don't already properly convey what I think about this book.
A pushover, heartsick girl who can't get over a guy because they kissed, and an arse of a man who is determined to keep her in a co-worker (not friend, mind) zone for his own selfish reasons while he gallivants around? A small apology and an utterly unbelievable 'I love you' made it alright in the end?
Yea.. um... Zack needs to learn to quit while he's ahead, "let me try again. We would kiss, but we'd be kissing for Arrow's sake. To get him to come out from the trees." That totally doesn't make sense Zack just admit you have feelings for Charlie and freakin' act on them. This book was alright, it wasn't what I was expecting. I thought there would be a little more romance and passion.
Just NO. Weak willed female character setting back the gender by decades. Girl, get a life. She may have improved, since I did not finish this, but I doubt it. I did not like the main character enough to waste my precious reading time.
I liked the prologue but it went downhill from there. The hero had the maturity of a young teenager and I can't believe he was in the army/combat. He needed to put on his big boy pants. Charlie needed to stop the repetitive inner monologues. There were so many name drops and details about people who live in town (some not even in any book scenes) that it got boring and confusing. I get that a series has to intertwine but my ADD brain was overloaded with ranch guests, Sage's candy shop, some country singer, the vet, the best friend, all the guys the hero mentioned as potential dates etc. and I even got a dog and a character mixed up since they had similar names (Dustin and Dusty I think).
The little typos annoyed me. In all the Marietta books it was called Copper Mountain but this repeatedly mentioned Cooper Mountain.
The word kiss was used 124 times in the book. This GROWN man kept obsessing over "getting a kiss."
Continues the Bar S 5 Ranch series from McClone. Charlie (Charlotte) and Zach have some romantic tension and neither wants to admit it to the other which causes all kinds of confusion and heartache. They fit together so well though anytime they are together that the reasons they refuse to admit it start to fade away.
In Kiss Me, Cowboy (Montana Born Rodeo #3) by Melissa McClone, Charlie has worked hard to fit in as a wrangler at the Bar V5 Dude Ranch. She loves her job...but she also loves Zack.
Zack is former military now working as a wrangler alongside Charlie. He's got ghosts of his own that haunt him and has no desire to be in a relationship with anyone. No matter how much he's attracted to Charlie. He has his 'family' on the ranch and will do anything to protect that family he's made for himself, even if it means not getting involved romantically with anyone he works with.
The one kiss Charlie gives Zack on a night he desperately needed comforting only makes her want him more. A year has passed and she can't stop thinking about him or dreaming of being with him. She thinks Zack is oblivious to her, but he's not. He just knows he's not perfect, and he thinks she deserves better. Charlie wants him anyway...
But Charlie can't go on with this, being around Zack and loving him, with him denying them a chance. With changes at the Bar V5 happening, Charlie is going to have to make some decisions about what she wants and how long she'll wait. Zack might have waited to long, and Charlie might be ready to move on.
Kiss Me, Cowboy is a real up and down emotional romance! Charlie is independent, and underneath the wrangler is a cowgirl dying to get loose and be herself. I admired Charlie for what she's done and her inner strength. Her infatuation with Zack that lasted a whole year seems like a long time to secretly covet someone once you're all grown up...and I was glad when she finally admitted to her feelings, despite the risks to her heart she was taking. Zack exudes strength and cowboy hotness...but he's hiding a tortured soul. He was a bit hot and cold at times with Charlie though, which only confused her more. I saw a lot of growth in both of these characters through out Kiss Me, Cowboy, especially in Zack. I would love a follow up with these two!
I love the ranch setting and Melissa did a fantastic job of taking me there with her descriptive writing. The secondary characters round out the story well without overwhelming and taking away from Charlie and Zack.
Kiss Me, Cowboy is well paced with believable characters whose world you can easily fall into. Kiss Me, Cowboy can easily be read as a stand alone, but the previous Montana Born Rodeo books are just as enjoyable. I'd recommend Kiss Me, Cowboy to any romance reader looking for a quick, sweet romance with a western flare!
I am really loving the Montana Born Rodeo series. This story adds to the aura developed in the other novels, drawing you right into the heart of a rodeo weekend. McClone gives a sense of what rodeo and ranch life is like from the outside of the circuit, bringing a love of the outdoors to life. Her breathtaking descriptions allow you to ride through the pastures alongside the wranglers and to experience the thrill of watching a rodeo. She also tugs at your heart with the unforgettable romance between the main characters.
I found the characters that McClone presents to her readers to be quite endearing. The two main characters are attempting to muddle through broken hearts, neither admitting what they really want. The confusion and heartache that this causes them is actually comical at times. Combine this with the fact that they are attempting to hide everything from their friends and family and you have a pair that will knock your boots off.
As a whole this was a fast paced, quick read that gives you a healthy dose of romance with a pair of characters who couldn’t be more clueless. It was pricelessly endearing!
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
If only Charlie Randall could get over her infatuation for Zack Harris once and for all. Maybe she would be happy. Maybe she could continue working at Bar V5 Dude Ranch. But, it has come down to the point where she needs to move on to get him out of her system.
Zack Harris is an army veteran with a lot of baggage. His parents were con artists. He watched them go in and out of jail for as long as he can remember. He joined the army and experienced death which has stayed with him to this day. His rule of no work place romances is set for a reason and he refuses to break that rule even though he is breaking Charlie's heart each time he kisses her.
Will Zach be able to put his fears to rest or will Charlie move on without him once and for all?
I really enjoyed reading this story and got a real feel for the ranch life of the wranglers experience on a day to day basis. The love story took a while to build up, but it was well worth the wait.
What do you do when the one you love doesn’t see it?…..you think about leaving. That is what Charlie (short for Charlotte) has come to the decision after two years of working with and loving Zack from afar, that it is time for a change. Zack doesn’t want Charlie to leave, so he sets out to find her a man to keep her on the Dude Ranch. He doesn’t know that he is the cowboy that has stolen Charlie’s heart.
I found Charlie to be a young woman that is just beginning to find herself. She has wanted to fit in with the guys on the Dude ranch so she has hidden the truly girly Charlotte. When she finally decides to let the woman inside emerge you can tell that change is coming.
I found Kiss Me, Cowboy to be touching and a sweet romance. I enjoy reading Melissa McClone style of writing.
"Charlie" falls in love with Zack when she comforts him over the death of his army buddy. Zack has a rule about not dating people he works with. Charlies knows that they can never be a couple, but no matter how she tries she can not get over him. The heart wants what the heart wants.
The reader gets the story from both main characters. This allows us to understand where each of them is really coming from and why they act they way they do. This story is about not letting our parents terrible marriage and even worse parenting prevent you form having your own happily ever after. Great read. I can't wait for book 4 in the Montana Born Rodeo series.
Charlotte (Charlie) loves Zack.Zack feels deeply for her but has an unwritten rule of no relationships with co-workers. They both work on the BarV5 Dude Ranch. Charlie is contemplating leaving the ranch for Colorado because it hurts to see Zack everyday. Zack equates work love with breaking up the workings of the team, something he experienced negatively when he was in the service. knowing how Charlie feels for him and he for her, he sets out to find a man for Charlie, knowing all the while he is the one.
This is a Rodeo Novella that started right out getting me misty eyed in the prologue. Charlotte Randel called Charlie and Zack Harris work at the Bar V5 ranch together and this is their story, when they are with each other they have so much chemistry its like shooting sparks, almost combustible. The Copper Mountain rodeo was just getting started and Charlie and Zack will see alot of each other there, but will they ever get together as a couple? I would recommend to lovers of Western Romance and to followers of all the Mariette books who want to catch up with Mistletoe the kitten.
I liked most of this book however, Charlie's lack of strength and doubt irked me. She is so strong and determined in all that she does, but not when it comes to Zack. Charlie has been a cowgirl living and working her dream with horses since she graduated high school at the Bar V5 Ranch. One day with Zack has ruined her for any other man. Zack doesn't want to date anyone he works with and Charlie is off limits because she is part of the family. What to do when faced with a standoff, someone needs to make a move.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Although, a sweet story I personally was not able to stomach how wishy washy and uncertain Charlie/ Charlotte was about making up her mind. Not only that, but she was going to make a huge life decision biased off of some guy who hadn't given her the time of in over a year since they shared some hot kisses one night. Why not make a choice that was best for her? Why have this wrangler who doesn't look her way twice carry so much weight in her decision.
Our heroine goes on about what a great guy the hero is, he's not a great guy he's an idiot. He's selfish and plain man playing with her feelings, trying to talk her into dating just so she'd stay and never considering what she actually wants. The kiss scenes are bland and don't show any hint that he wants her. I prefer a take charge hero and a bit more heat and steam.
I really liked Charlie (Charlotte) in this story. The struggles she went through deciding whether to stay on the ranch she loves or leave to protect her heart were very touching. I could feel her pain and confusion. Zack was a great character as well. He did come off as quite the tease though. But I loved the way the story progressed to the end.

A sweet story. I'm really enjoying this series and the characters and dialogue in these books. They grab me from the first page and when I finish the last page I still want more. Who wouldn't. I would totally recommend if you enjoy a good romance then read these Montana Born homecoming series you won't be disappointed.
I loved Kiss Me, Cowboy! I really liked how Charlie and Zack's relationship progressed throughout the book. I also liked how descriptive the book was it made me feel like i am there with the characters. I am really enjoying this authors writing and will definitely be reading more.
Disappointed with this book. I found it not very engaging and for a romance novel it lacked “romance” . I normally really enjoy this genre and I enjoy books set in “cowboy territory “ but this just lacked that sparkle that leaves one with a rosy glow feeling after reading ...... sorry.
Got a little annoyed at this story. Zack could not make up his mind. Seemed to want his cake and eat it too. Did not want Charlie to leave but led her on and did not want her to see anyone else but would not go out with her himself.
The story was uninspired. The obstacle and characters were wishy washy. The pacing was too slow, too fast, then fine. I just wanted more backbone and gumption.
