Finding Home

Rate this book
Fourteen years after her abrupt departure, Samara Davis is back in Marietta, Montana. Now a widow, all she wants is to give her anxious four-year old daughter, Jade, a happy, stable home. Unfortunately, the heritage house she purchased is nowhere near ready for occupancy. And the man responsible for the delay is none other than high-school golden boy and love of her life Logan Stafford, available, interested and just as swoon-worthy as ever.

But this single mother has one priority. She’s all Jade has, and she’ll do anything, make any sacrifice, for her child’s future. And getting distracted by a long-lost boyfriend is not on the agenda.

Logan Stafford never forgot the lonely girl from the wrong side of the tracks who broke his heart. Not only is she as irresistible as ever, but her delightfully odd little girl has him wrapped around her finger in no time. Believing they’ve been given a second chance, Logan’s determined to pull out all the stops on the house to prove to them both that he’s a guy they can count on. But, despite how easy it is to love Logan, a second chance is still a gamble Samara can’t afford to take.

USA TODAY bestselling author Roxanne Snopek writes contemporary romance both sexy and sweet, in small towns, big cities, on secluded islands and sun-drenched beaches, with families and communities that will warm your heart. Her fictional heroes (like her own real-life hero) are swoon-worthy, uber-responsible, secretly vulnerable and occasionally dough-headed, but animals love them, which makes everything okay.

Avid gardener, soup-maker and bread-eater, Roxanne writes from British Columbia, Canada, surrounded by dogs, cats, deer, squirrels and occasionally bear and bobcat. When she thinks of it, she does yoga and cleans the house. Well, not that last thing.

This was a short, sweet romantic novella that I enjoyed. We follow a recently widowed Mum called Samara who moves into the town of Marietta with her young daughter Jade in search of a brighter future. Instead, Samara finds herself crossing paths with a former flame from the past called Logan, who is now helping high school kids struggling to make futures for others brighter (fixing up homes for new residents) and so most of them come together as a collective to help Samara and Jade. This I particularly liked since Logan was actually acting like a responsible adult and really seemed to care about everyone's feelings, which was refreshing to see. The pacing was good, enjoyed the writing style as well.

Got this as a freebie from Kobo!

Her Montana Hero was pretty cute. It's a sweet second chance romance as Sam heads back to a town she went to school in briefly as a teen. She needs to start over after a loss and only had good memories there. One who happens to open the door to the house she just purchased.

Sam and Logan were good characters. She's a bit neurotic and dealing with being a single mom to a special needs daughter. She messes up sometimes but she's doing her best. Logan's just a good guy. Hard working and considerate. Patient and just easy to like.

Their romance was slow but quick. It takes a bit for Sam to deal with things. She's strung so dang tight and doesn't handle things with her daughter well all the time. Closes down and lashes out when she's worried. I did like how Logan handled it, though.

All in all, an easy read and full of sweet moments and heart. I enjoyed it and look forward to more from the series.

Samara is widowed and moves to Marietta to start over with her daughter Jade. She never thought she would run into Logan, her former boyfriend from the brief time she lived in Marietta as a teenager. The attraction between them is instant, as if it never left.
I had a hard time liking Samara for the first half of the book. Even considering everything she had been through, she almost had more issues than I could deal with. Logan, on the other hand, was a wonderful sweetheart. I loved him from the beginning. The residents of Marietta were their normal friendly sweet selves. It was a good book, but Samara's issues and overprotectiveness of Jade were hard to tolerate at times.

This is the first of the Montana Born Books that I’ve read (although I’ve been intrigued by some of them before) and I can definitely say I’m missing out on something because of it. There are a ton of couples and side stories that we get little glimpses of as we read Finding Home that I think some familiarity with the little town would have helped.

BUUUUT having said that, I did really enjoy the story that Snopek gives Sam and Logan. It mostly focuses on Sam and her ability to let go, to learn to trust and rely on others. From the bits we are given, we get that her childhood was anything but ordinary and now she’s dealing with being a widow and single mother of a special child. Having Logan back into her life and moving into the close knit small town definitely shakes her life up … but in a very good way.

Finding Home is novella in length – right around 100 pages – and I wish I’d had a chance to get to know Logan better, learn more of his history. He’s smart, strong, and very well liked. He cares about his community and the people in it. He wants only good things for the kids he teaches and pushes others to do right by them as well. He’s experience as an educator definitely comes in handy dealing with both Sam and her daughter, and his interactions with Jade are so sweet that I felt my heart melt. He’s just about the most perfect hero that I’ve seen in a long time.

Jade is a fantastically complex little girl and I loved how the community just accepts her as she is. Sam, though, is WAY wound up with everything that has happened in her life and she’s a little more hesitant to let that go. There are times that she isn’t very likeable but she is relatable and seeing her accept people more and more is a joy.

If you haven’t read any of the Montana Born Books either, don’t let that intimidate you. The story is good, the characters are intriguing, and you’ll find yourself rooting for the HEA as you’re glued to the pages.

I REALLY REALLY love second chance romances. There is something so heart-warming about two people coming together a second time (or third or whatever the case may be) and making sure that whatever might have spooked them or kept them apart earlier in their age, doesn't happen again! And you throw in kids and I am done for! LOL
I really loved every minute of this story. It was short, sweet and to the point. The small-town setting, friendships and second characters provide a really emotionally satisfying story.
Other than telling you it was well written and even tho it was short in page numbers, it did not feel short, there's not much else to tell unless I tell you the details and for THAT you gotta read the book!! Pick it up, YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY! :)

Roxanne Snopek has given us another great read.

Samara and Logan get a second chance at love and this time nothing will keep them apart.

Finding Home was a heartwarming read, loved seeing Logan connect with Samara's little girl Jade.
Logan was an amazing guy and the perfect man for Samara and Jade :)

Nice small town romance

I enjoyed Samara and Logan's story. It was great how Logan cared for Sam and her daughter Jade. The ending came rather fast but it was good to see them together, looking forward to their future.

Posted on What I'm Reading

Yesterday I read Finding Home by Roxanne Snopek. I have enjoyed Roxanne previous stories, but I had a hard time connecting with this story. Don't get me wrong, Finding Home is a nice sweet read that deals with some serious issues.

Basically, Samara Davis finds herself as a widow and decided that she wanted to move back Marietta, Montana, because when she was younger that was the one place that she felt that she could feel at home. When she gets there things aren't going as plan, and she struggles. She has a lot on her plate with being a new widow and dealing with her child; the last person she expect to see was Logan Stafford. Now Logan couldn't forget Samara, even if tried. However, they were together one and the next she was gone. Now she has return to Marietta, and maybe this is a second chance for them to be together.

I really liked Logan. In Finding Home he was a decent guy and willing to bend over backward for Samara. Now Samara, I had a huge issue with her. I think a lot has to do with the fact she was extremely emotionally closed off that she wouldn't let anyone in. Now certain residents aren't going to let Samara get away with that. Logan being one of them, and Eliza and Aunt Mabel being the others. She realized what she was doing, but didn't know if she wanted to fix. I love that Aunt Mabel stepped in and pretty much put her in her place. I did like Aunt Mabel even though she's a bit brash.

Overall, Finding Home is a well written story with characters with strong emotional issues. A lot of story focuses on Samara and her taking back her life after the death of her husband and learning to trust the people in Marietta. Logan is fantastic and how he handles Samara and her daughter. Not a bad read, and it wasn't until the end when I finally liked Samara. However, others have enjoyed this story and this is just my personal feeling.

Roxanne Snopek wrote one of my favourite series' so when given the chance to read Finding Home I grabbed it with both hands. And she doesn't disappoint as she has brought us a sweet, touching romance, that whilst fairly short, is filled with feeling.

"Getting a second chance is a miracle. It's a gift."

When widow Samara Davis and her daughter return to her hometown in Montana from New York, the last person she expects to find restoring her new home is her high school sweetheart, Logan Stafford. But she does and it's immediately evident that the attraction is still there and it's mutual, but 14 years have passed and her daughter now must come first.

Logan was a sweetheart; kind, protective and patient, he found his way into my heart straight away. Sam, took some warming to. I liked her, but I also found her a little difficult as she doesn't trust people with her daughter and she can be short and offhand when they are trying to help. But rest assured by the end of the book I'd completely warmed to her; she hasn't had an easy time of things but she and Logan were perfect together with realistic, natural chemistry which burned bright.

As is Roxanne's MO, a cast of secondary characters bring snark, humour and support and animals and children bring the cute, heartfelt moments. Whilst I perhaps would have liked a little more detail of Sam's backstory with her husband, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I could have happily read a full length novel. If a family feel, small town romance is what you want, then Finding Home is exactly that.

(It's worth mentioning that this is part of the Homecoming series although it can easily be read as a standalone. That said, I intend to read the rest of the series.)

This book started off good then quickly went downhill. Sam's attitude regarding her daughter and the world around them started pissing me off. Her daughter has issues, but they wouldn't be near as bad then if Sam would just take a chill pill. I assume Jade is maybe autistic or something of the sort, but it's never explained. Other characters are able to calm her down no problem, but with Sam she has complete meltdowns. How is it that Jade's own parents can't see to her needs but complete strangers can?? And there was zero chemistry between Sam and Logan. They apparently had a past, but you wouldn't know it because it's never explained. The hints that we do get are half-assed and certainly do not give any clues to why these characters are drawn to each other.

A great story of first love, heart break, and a reunion that proves the love never died. He was the golden boy, she was from the wrong side of the tracks but the attraction was immediate and strong until one day she was gone. Many years later Samara is back in Marietta and when she and Logan come face to face the spark is still there. The last thing she needs though is a new relationship, or so she thinks.

This story is wonderfully written and these characters are warm and funny and people you just want to see have their HEA. And of course what would a Roxanne Snopek story be without a wonderful canine character. Bob definitely does not disappoint. Excellent read that I highly recommend.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Again, this book had a lot of potential, but seemed pulled in a million different directions. We're never really given a full background on Samara and Logan's past, or even what the situation is with Gramble house. To be honest, it seemed kind of slapped together. Parts I liked - the house fixing up, Logan's ability to handle Jade, Jade and Bob, Jade and Mabel.

Finding Home was a sweet, pretty clean read. This is a novella, so it didn't take long to read it. I liked the characters, and I usually like stories about high school sweethearts reuniting; however, I felt like something was missing in this story. I didn't feel as though there was any build-up to Sam and Logan's relationship. It just didn't feel that deep to me.

Samara with daughter, Jade returns to Marietta because it was the closest thing that she had to to everything, Logan took for granted. Instead of a soft peaceful landing she got a house that wasn't ready and a man that she also was not ready for.
Loved this book, well written characters and it was great to be back in Marietta. I really enjoyed the character Bob, ok so he was a dog but Roxanne always includes them. A great addition to the Montana Born Homecoming series. Highly recommend.

Ok

I would give this book 2 1/2 stars of I could. The writing was good, but the characters were not developed. The book also ended abruptly. Also, the author never really says what issues the child has. As written it could be seen that the child is just bratty. And the heroine has some issues of her own she needs to work on. She did absolutely nothing that I could see to cause the hero to be so devoted to her. I thought her to be selfish and kind of petty

Samara and Logan were High School sweethearts. Now a widowed mother of a challenging daughter Samara has come back to town and Logan is the contractor/teacher who is finishing up her new house. I love the coming home and reuniting first loves aspect to this story. It is a good story and has sweet characters, but some aspects were far reaching. Overall nice read.

This is a wonderful story of second chances. Samara,a widow, comes back to Marietta, Montana, with her four year old daughter. Marietta was the place Samara lived for one very happy year in an otherwise unhappy childhood. Logan Stafford, her teenage love, is still there...now divorced and teaching at the high school and coordinating building projects for the students.

2.5 Neither Samara nor Logan's characters jelled with me. Logan at first seemed a little immature, but that changed about halfway through. I so enjoy stories of re-found love and in that, this did not disappoint. Loving the Marietta setting minus the cowboys!

Canadian author Roxanne Snopek has penned Finding Home, a sweet and heart-warming story that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Finding Home also features in the Montana Homecoming anthology, a fabulous book I won a few years ago. The moment I read the first line of Finding Home I knew this would be an irresistible, romantic read. And with a hero like Logan, gorgeous, sweet and loveable, I would have been quite happy for the book to continue…well…forever. The focus is also on Samara’s 4 year old autistic daughter, Jade and her service dog, Bob which I thought gave the story more significance.

I love the small town setting of Marietta and look forward to reading the 2nd book in the ‘This Old House’ Series.

Finding Home will charm your socks off.

Sweet Romance but...

Sweet second Chance Romance but nothing special. Samara returns to the only p,ace she felt happy as a child and runs into her high school sweetheart, Logan. She also has a child, Jade, with special needs who she is raising by herself. Samara is a mixture of strong, weak, crazy, concerned parent and reluctant lover. Logan wants to make everything good for both Samara and her daughter. It was just too predictable to be more than an average read.

Part of a series. Closed bedroom door romance.

This is the first book in the Montana Home series by Roxanne Snopek. Samara Davis moves back to Marietta, Montana after fourteen years. Samara is a widow with four-year old daughter Jade. But the heritage house she purchased is being renovated and not ready to move in. Logan Stafford is the high school boyfriend she left and Logan is determined to help her get the house back in shape and win her heart. Samara isn’t sure she is ready for love yet. Find out if Samara and Logan get together. I really enjoyed this fantastic second chance at love romance novel.

3/2/25: this was a quick, easy timepass. I was in the mood for a romance and it scrached the itch. I didn't like the MMC. I thought he showed some alarming red flags of an abuser and the logic or rationale behind his behavior was "passable" but flimsy. I thought the author id a great job illustrating anxiety and panic disorder. I did however question if she liked children at all based on some of the scenes and dialogue and inner thoughts, of characters, etc. I am not likely to read from this author again, but this was fine for what it was.

Okay

I like the town, Logan and his special projects helping at-risk teens, and the sweet dog. Sam seems to be an extremely over-protective mother to the point of being rude and hurtful to others who are only trying to help. Jade possibly has autism or another medical issue - we aren’t really told for sure, but a lot of it sounds like she’s just plain spoiled. A story of second chances, finding home, making new friends, and finding true love.

This was a sweet story about Samara and her daughter Jade moving to Marietta. Samara and Jade have had it rough after her husband dies suddenly. Samara moves back to a place she is comfortable with. Samara meets her old boyfriend when she returns. Logan is remodeling the house Samara is moving into. Samara and Jade move into Bramble B&B and get to be good friends with Eliza and Aunt Mabel. Samara learns a lot about living in a small town again.

Samara comes back home to Montana with her young daughter Jade a few years after losing her husband. When Samara visits the house that is being worked on and will soon be the home her and Jade need she finds a former love heading the charge. Logan is shocked to see Samara a woman he loved in high school back in Montana. This is a beautifully written second chance at romance that I couldn't put down.
