I'm an independent West Australian writer, philanthropist and fundraiser for good causes.
An ardent traveller I've visited over 453 cities in 51 countries and lived in 17 of those cities in 5 different countries.
I specialise in writing novels set in the places that I've been and about the things that I've has seen. All of my writings, including The Roads Of Luhonono, are fiction based on fact.
After much consideration I’ve decided on a 2 star for this book. There are some great ideas and concepts in these pages however the execution can be frustrating. Phrases are often repeated, the challenges the main characters face are resolved a little too easily/quickly and I found the setting difficult to grasp. I often found myself having to stop reading or completely pulled out of the story because of these things or a few inconsistencies throughout the book. In my opinion this book would have been much more suited to an audience of 12-14 year olds rather than young adults because of the above, Hamilton’s way of story telling and the lack of moments where I was able to figure things out for myself and instead had the situation spelled out to me. There are a few extremely poetic lines, which I adored, but which were often overshadowed by an explanation.
Full disclosure: I received this copy as a gift with the intention of reading and offering the author some feedback, which I have recently done. Above are some of the things I have brought to his attention but I also expressed some other suggestions to help with overall appeal and better representation of the novel as well as some spelling mistakes and inconsistencies that had managed to get passed the eyes of several beta readers and a professional editor (to you I ask please do better). I am intrigued to see where the characters are lead (or where they lead Hamilton) and what more the world has to explore, however I do hope some of the suggestions I’ve given will be taken into consideration in the writing of book 3. If I have time between work, studying, housework and bookclub, book 2 might get a similar treatment to book 1 in preparation for book 3.
