The City of Legends concludes with Empire Rising. Maci finally got her twin sister, Nova. But the villians would not stop even if they got Max. Depowered villians are coming back to wreck havoc and nobody knows why.

Empire Rising was a must-read for me because it was the last book in the trilogy. And this book did not disappoint at all!

I love that every detail in the story matters. And everything just leads up to an exciting conclusion. Though very thought-out, it did feel as though what the characters were doing was too easy. Like they were just given an easy way out with the situation. Which I tought failed to deliver. But the action, how things fell into place, and the flow of the story was really good.

Though romance is not the focus of the story, it gives off a lot of sweet moments, but feels as if it were unnecessary. I guess, I was hoping their romance as a couple would be more connected to the story.

I liked this series all in all. Action-packed and keeps you wanting more! And I applaud Cheyanne Young for doing such a good job!

This review is going to be super short not because I didn’t like the book, I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I am so sad that this series is over. I just want to make this review spoiler free so you can read it and understand that I think this series is so well done I don’t want to give anything away.

I loved the characters, the story and the world this is set it. I loved the connection between Maci and Nova, how they build as characters. I loved the romance that these girls have with certain boys. I just love everything about this book and series. The ending was done perfectly and I couldn’t have asked for a better way for this series to be wrapped up.

Cheyanne Young has totally won me over with this series, not that she isn’t awesome anyway…because she is. I just love her writing and love the stories she tells. She will forever be one of my favorite authors. This book/series I highly recommend. One of my favorite series, lots of action, romance and a few twists, lovable characters and an amazing world had me on the edge of my seat and devoured it in no time. These are the kind of books that make me love reading!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

This was such a great conclusion to a fun series. Talk about everything coming full circle. Conflicts? Resolved. Relationships? Made stronger. Heroes? Better than ever. Maci and her sister are exactly where they belong, doing what they do best. Really enjoyed it.

This is a great finale to the series. I could not wait to read this book and I am so excited to say it was worth the wait. The story and characters were well written and developed. I recommend reading this series.

Eighteen years ago, Maci Knight’s family was destroyed when Aurora Falcon killed her mother. Now Aurora’s partner, Felix, has kidnapped Maci’s brother. For five long months, there’s been no sign of Max. His Codex is offline and she can’t feel even the slightest trace of his power. Maci refuses to give up hope, but when a new threat on King City emerges, Maci is ordered to abandon her search.

Somehow Felix has managed to do the unthinkable: repower all the villains that Central has depowered over the years. Now they’ve banded together to get revenge on the Supers who wronged them. What feels like an arduous mission becomes an opportunity when Maci realizes that if she can stop the villains, she can get them to lead her to Felix—and her brother.

We begin another installment with a Hero exam, which was obvious from the start. It has been five months since the events of the last book, and Maci has been desperately trying to find Max. After months of barely any activity from the regular villains, suddenly repowered villains are making an appearance. Seems the plot didn't want to deviate from a regular super heroes vs super villains story, even in the finale. The rest of the world is just a playground for this species to push each other around. The writing this time around was, however, significantly better, though it is still far from delving into characters. There are unnecessary scenes, and dialogue that makes me cringe, and problems that go way deeper than the construct of the society. Some side plots from previous books didn't even get a mention in this one, when there was such a good way to add complexity to the main plot.

With the repowered villains on the scene, Maci finally uses her dysnedo-whatever-given brains and links the appearances with her brother's possible location. Nova fades into the background as this secondary character, and mostly her sidekick. While the ending was interesting, it also felt like getting a miracle to tie up the plot. So, no, I wasn't entirely happy with that - considering so much words were wasted on chasing around villains, and describing Evan Letta's hotness (I swear to god, enough of those flip flops he wears). Since the series has been a disappointment so far, I would say the finale didn't make any further drops but mostly stayed stable in my view.

I read the entire trilogy of books in less than a week, and found it to be a fun, easy read. Reading it took me back to watching superhero cartoons on Saturday morning television.

This series is full of surprises and twists, so that while you may think you know where the plot is headed, nine times out of ten you are going to be wrong. But that just added to the reading enjoyment for me, as I am not a fan of predictable plots.

The characters are well-developed and likable. Maci is not your typical YA heroine with self-confidence issues....she tends to go a little too far in the other direction at times, with a little too much faith in herself and her abilities. Her relationship with her twin sister, Nova, develops well over the course of the series, as they moved from the awkward getting to know you stage into sharing a deep bond and working together as a team. Reading about those transitions added more depth to the series.

There is a subplot involving the relationship between Evan and Maci, and we get to see that grow through the series, but it never becomes the main focus. I enjoyed the interactions between them, seeing their feelings develop.

While all the loose ends are tied up by the end of the third book, I would like to see more stories about these characters in the future.

Another great addition to this action-packed superhero series! I love the girl power in this book; we get to see the relationship between twin sisters Maci and Nova grow, while the romance elements take the back-burner. I do love the romance, but it's a really nice and refreshing change of pace in a YA!

My only question--will there be more books in this series? The loose ends are tied up beautifully by the end, but it definitely leaves the door open for more. I'd love to see what's in store for Maci and Nova! And maybe a spinoff all about my fave Hero, Max? A girl can dream...
