IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SIMPLE DELIVERY...NOW SHE'S FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE.
Jess Morgan thought her biggest worry was finishing her shift and paying the rent. But one late-night delivery to a remote house turns her world upside down when she hears something she was never meant to hear—a scream, raw and desperate, from somewhere inside.
Caught between fear and a need to do the right thing, Jess can't shake the feeling that something—and someone—is in danger. But when she becomes the next target of a killer who’s always one step ahead, survival becomes her only option.
Alone, hunted, and running out of time, Jess must find the courage to fight back before she becomes just another name on his list. The Delivery is a chilling, fast-paced thriller that will have you questioning every knock at the door.
Michelle Powers writes the kind of thrillers that keep you up way past bedtime—just one more chapter, right? What started with her breakout novella, The First Murder, quickly snowballed into a full-blown obsession with killers, clues, and crime scenes (the fictional kind, of course). She’s the internationally recognized indie author behind the addictive Detective Willoughby series, the fan-favorite Detective Kate Brown series, and a growing stack of standalone thrillers that will make you second-guess everyone you know. In 2024, she proudly earned the coveted KDP All-Star title—a gold star for authors who live on coffee, plot twists, and sheer grit. When she’s not working her day job in logistics or plotting her next murder (on paper, we swear), Michelle can be found writing at her desk with her Rottweiler sidekick, Ozzy, snoring nearby. Follow her on Facebook for new releases, giveaways, and all things murdery and mysterious. Just maybe leave the lights on.
From the moment Jess Morgan hears that bloodcurdling scream behind a customer’s door, The Delivery locks you into a relentless, nerve-racking ride you won’t escape until the final page.
Michelle masterfully crafts tension with every chapter, keeping you second-guessing characters and motives at every turn. Who can Jess trust? Who’s watching her? And just how deep does this nightmare go? The pacing is lightning-fast, the stakes are sky-high, and every twist lands like a gut punch.
Jess is the perfect protagonist—scrappy, resourceful, and just unhinged enough to make her survival instinct kick into overdrive. You FEEL her desperation, her paranoia, and her determination to fight back.
If you love thrillers that grip you tight and don’t let go, The Delivery delivers (pun absolutely intended). It’s chilling, exhilarating, and impossible to put down.
Let me just start off by saying that this book is intense. From the very beginning, Michelle Powers draws you in with her compelling storytelling and skillful pacing. One of the standout features of The Delivery is how well the characters are developed. Powers does an incredible job of building them up so that you truly connect with them on an emotional level.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and once again, she does not disappoint. Her plot twists are perfectly timed and genuinely surprising—just when you think you know where the story is going, she takes it in a completely unexpected direction.
The Delivery is a must-read if you enjoy thrillers with strong characters and jaw-dropping twists. Michelle Powers proves yet again that she’s a powerhouse in this genre.
What an exciting ride. The tension right off the bat does you in. You'll want to keep reading. Easily read in one sitting. Powers gives you just the right amount of information for you to picture what is happening and be fully engrossed in the story.
The cover and blurb of this book intrigued me. A delivery driver witnessing something she shouldn't have, but this book is much more than that. So much more! There were lots of twists, and it was tense and thrilling, and I loved it! I highly recommend that you read this book.
" It was supposed to be a simple delivery... Now she's fighting for her life."
The Delivery by Michelle Powers is a fast paced thriller full of twists that will have you on the edge of your seat and probably never wanting to be a delivery driver at night!!
Jess Morgan is struggling. Just trying to be able to pay rent on time, she takes on a delivery driver position. During one seemingly routine delivery late one night, Jess hears someone screaming. The desperate and visceral sound of someone crying for help strikes fear into Jess's heart. Faced with a decision to protect herself or to help someone in need, Jess finds herself the target of a ruthless killer who will stop at nothing to hunt Jess down. Terrified and alone, will Jess survive, or has she made her last delivery?
This was an intense thrill ride of a book!! From the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat and white knuckling my Kindle! One of the highlights of Powers writing is how well she creates tension and unrelenting dread for her characters. Speaking of characters, our protagonist Jess is a scrapper!! She is well written and her resilience speaks volumes. I love how determined and resourceful she is and she is easy to relate to on an emotional level. And that ending?! It was satisfying and wrapped up the story in a nice neat bow! Highly recommend The Delivery for fans of chilling, fast-paced thrillers!!
Thank you to Michelle Powers for letting me be a part of your ARC team!! Can't wait to see where you take us next!!
I loved this book. There was quite a few times I was either yelling at the fmc or holding my breath for her. The twist in this book i never saw coming. Such a great storyline. I loved the ending. Without details I was happy for Jess.
As well as having been unceremoniously dismissed from a promising career, and finding herself in the position of having to take the first vacancy available, that would mean a continuation in her earning potential in order to make the rent, and most importantly heat her home in the bitterly cold climate in which she was currently living, Jess Morgan’s life now seemed comparatively lonely and the work she had taken, keeping her isolated from others. It carried with it, an element of vulnerability, something that doesn’t occur to her until she selects a job that as well as unnerving her, heightens her curiosity, plunging her into a web of deceit, lies and terror, of which she is unwittingly at the centre. 🕷🕸 The is the third book from Michelle Powers that I have read and by the looks of her list of books at the back of this one, I have only just scratched the surface. Having been congratulating myself on reading her three stand alone novels, I am in fact playing catch up! However, this is not a genre that I am often drawn to read, but I have been impressed with what I’ve read from this author thus far. ‘The Delivery’ is probably my favourite as it delivers (no pun intended) suspense in spades. Had I had the time available to me, I probably would have sat for as long as it took, to read this in one go. Michelle also gave me personally, curveballs that I did not see coming at all, which is rare. 📖 Michelle cleverly develops the story by interjecting lots of different characters, some of whom appear random and superfluous to the main narrative. For a time the reader is left feeling that the writing has moved further away from the original story and wonder whether it will ever return to the scenarios originally presented. Then she rapidly whips around, tying all the loose threads together when least expected, even if it isn’t done until the end, making much more of an impact. Up until the perpetrator was introduced, a character I originally thought was a bit random, there had been a smattering of side characters that had been established, which served to divert the reader’s concentration, a tool, I have noticed, that Michelle has used previously. The fate of poor Ms Wentworth wasn’t clear to me right until the end, although made fairly obvious by that point. I had my suspicions about Frank given how much onus he had over where the original offences had taken place. Then the mention of Mia arriving at Jess’s apartment dressed in black, set off alarm bells in my brain, although I had had my doubts about her prior to this particular scene. The way in which Jess is lured into this plot of historical vendettas introducing a plethora of prudently planned bloodline, who gradually appear or are uncovered, adds copious amounts of intrigue to an already unsettling thread of events. In every chapter Michelle’s writing paints an extremely tangible picture for the reader’s imagination. 🗝⛓ The primary perpetrator has been gifted exceptionally chilling dialogue together with a dry sarcasm through which, their identity can be interpreted in many forms. I really felt Jess’s trauma as she realises that she recognises her surroundings, recalls her last encounter there and the poignancy of the affiliation she now has with it. It was at this point that I was a little concerned that what was to come, may contain a particular trigger for me, but then I guessed Michelle would probably have written something about that prior to the Prologue, as that alone is enough to make a reader think twice as to whether they wish to delve deeper into the pages of this haunting saga. A most unexpected character is then introduced. This was the shocking twist for me, and was most likely intended to be so. The way the reader is fed information about her earlier on in the narrative, leading them to believe that she is something of a side character and therefore not of much consequence, is a smart ploy. However, the way she is developed, and the persona which she is given, lends the story a central force, a figure with whom the reader can really get behind the motivation driving her behaviour albeit, abhorrent. 🪑💉 What I would have liked to have known was, how these two people came to be able to collaborate in their shared desire for retribution. It frustrated me that Jess didn’t realise the identity of this person until later on. Given her penchant for viewing ‘crime documentaries’, and that she is in fact in the middle of her own, I would have thought that she would have committed all the information she had learnt to memory, as well as Leo’s phone number. I must give the author kudos for swerving the continence kidnap issue too whilst Jess’s unknown gift for escapology felt a little too convenient. I also wonder how anyone can imagine that they would feel safe living in the middle of a wood, but each to their own. 🔪 This novel has certainly earned its right to be placed under the genre of ‘mystery thriller’, together with an undertone of romance and chivalry, both of which fit the narrative perfectly and made this book very compelling.📖
The Delivery by Michelle Powers is an exceptional thriller that masterfully blends heart-pounding suspense with raw emotion. From the very first page, Powers pulls you into a gripping world of mystery, emotion, and unexpected twists. The book hooks you with its richly woven plot and its deeply human exploration of love, loss, and redemption.
The story centers around Jess Morgan, who is faced with a life-altering decision that forces her to confront her past while navigating a present filled with danger and uncertainty. What makes Powers' writing so compelling is her ability to make these characters feel incredibly real. The emotional depth of each character, especially Jess, is truly striking. You can feel her inner turmoil, the weight of her decisions, the fear of being targeted, and the vulnerability as she tries so hard to fight back and avoid becoming a victim.
The plot itself is brilliantly constructed, constantly keeping you on your toes. There’s an intriguing blend of mystery and psychological suspense that will keep you turning the pages. Just when you think you have the story figured out, Powers introduces new twists that leave you reeling. Her pacing is spot-on—there’s never a moment where the tension lags. Each chapter propels the story forward, with just the right amount of revelation to keep you hungry for more.
The writing itself is also a standout. Powers’ prose is sharp and evocative, painting vivid pictures of the settings while allowing the emotions of the characters to shine through. There’s a quiet beauty in her storytelling that enhances the intensity of the more suspenseful moments.
As for the ending? Absolutely satisfying. It wraps up the story in a way that feels earned, yet leaves just enough ambiguity to provoke thought long after you’ve finished. It’s a perfect conclusion to a book that takes you on such an emotional journey.
Overall, The Delivery is a rare gem—a book that is both a gripping psychological thriller and a poignant exploration of the human condition. If you enjoy stories with well-developed characters, twists that leave you breathless, and emotional depth that lingers long after the final page, this book is a must-read. This book is a five-star Killer Thriller for sure!
Another outstanding thriller by Michelle Powers! This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I couldn’t put it down. Jess looses her job and needs a new one to pay her bills ASAP. She gets an email about a delivery service. She decides to sign up so she has some money coming in while she looks for a full time job.
While she is in the basement doing laundry her mosey neighbor is murded. Putting her on edge.
Then, One delivery to an address on the edge of town leads to a chilling scene she can’t get out of her head. She hears a scream. The guy who answered the door says he’s working on a movie auditions.
Jess doesn’t believe that. She goes home and starts look things up online and finds out the person she delivered too was not who they said they were. The next day she decides to go back to the house by herself. She finds a female in the basement alive. She calls 911 to get help.
Now Jess is being watched by the person from the house. She gets help from police officer Leo who is investigating the case.
Together they work to figure out what is going on. When Jessica’s DNA shows up all over the house where she found the other woman and her neighbors apartment. She couldn’t understand why.
With the help of her neighbor Mia she does some cyber sleuthing trying to figure out what is going on.
The Delivery By Michelle Powers! It was a go from the start! To the middle of nowhere to deliver Food! 🩸 Blood stains and sudden screams! Jess feels that instinct tugging! Something is very 😑 WRONG!
Shocking twists, battling emotions, a desperate need to help? Or walk away? Disturbing 😳 Chilling, as a Killer makes his mark too close to home! What is home to Jess anymore? Very fast paced and suspenseful, as she deals with work, revenge and just trying to make it! She finds a connection and one protects her at all costs seeing her vulnerability and fear, emotions stain the pages as the chapters invite death and turns into chaos while Jess seeks comfort!
Her past strides in and whispers “No such 🍀luck!”
Darkness and secrets are peeled back in layers as this author keeps you up way past Midnight eager to get to the climax and obsession of finding the truth!
One more chapter right! A mystery crime thriller that reminds you to lock 🔒 your doors (as many as three or four recommended) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and a half!
The Delivery by Michelle Powers is my first book by this author. There are several twists, which I only figured out one. It's pretty fast paced, with short chapters. Jess was fired from her job and has started delivering food from a delivery app to make ends meet. Before checking to where the delivery is going to, she accepts because of the generous tip. The delivery is several miles outside of town. When she gets there, it's a creepy house. A man answers the door, barely a crack. Jess hears a woman scream and sees what she thinks is a pool of blood on the carpet behind the man. He makes an excuse for the screams. Jess leaves and her life is turned upside down. She has to decide whether to call the police or investigate for herself if a woman needs help or not. She finds herself in danger and embroiled in a secret about her father, that her mother never told her about. 5 stars.
Summary: Jess Morgan, making her late night delivery to a remote location hears something disturbing. She can't shake the feeling something is wrong and decides to help. But, doing that, she goes on a list of a killer. As a result of her own past, she doesn't know who she can trust, who is friend and who is foe? Review: "The Delivery" is a fast paced psychological thriller, which will make you guessing until the end. Story and atmosphere are really tense and nicely paced, with chapters ending with twists. Characters (especially Jess) are very well described and you can feel connection to them. Ending is very satisfying, wrapping everything up. I recommend throwing yourself into "The Delivery", just don't read it before doing late night delivery 😅.
The premise of the story is really intriguing in a different way than many of the other thrillers that I've read recently. The book grabs you from the beginning and then keeps you guessing as just see something during the delivery that changes everything. Not many people would have then continued to investigate this like Jess decides to do. Some of the connections were a bit puzzling and unfortunately I did guess a little bit of it. however, it was still a thriller read.
Thank you to the publisher and the author for The Arc opportunity. aside from a few areas that needed cleaned up, I think this was a good read
I was excited to have another opportunity to read an advanced copy of Powers' work. I really enjoy her short chapters and ability to draw you in.
Jess hears something she wasn't supposed to and she just can't let it go. I connected right away with our main character because I too would have struggled with ignoring what happened. Jess decides to take matters in to her own hands to determine if the situation warrants getting the police involved. If only she knew what she was getting wrapped up in...
The twists and connections that get uncovered along the way made a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed The Delivery.
This book takes you on a wild ride and keeps you on the edge of you seat. Jess Morgan visits the wrong house and hears something she shouldn't. Now she is on the run trying to stay ahead of a killer that is always one step ahead of her. She has to take matters into her own hands before she meets the same fate. I felt like I was right there with Jess and was scared with her. This book definitely makes you want to question knocking on anyone's door. Fast paced and a thrill a minute. Engaging and amazing read.
I read The Delivery by Michelle Powers, but I didn’t enjoy it, even though it was fairly easy to read. It’s supposed to be a thriller, but I found it far from thrilling— the story was quite predictable. The romantic subplot, in my opinion, detracted from the overall experience and made it feel even less engaging. It seemed like the author took ideas from ten other thrillers in this genre and mashed them together to create this book. While this filled the pages with words, it lacked originality and any surprising twists, leaving me feeling bored throughout.
I was honestly impressed, as the storyline is not your typical psychological thriller. What I mean by that is, there are multiple build ups and conclusions throughout and I enjoyed the different style. I also laughed every time one of the cringeworthy lines most people complain about were used. I assumed it was on purpose for that fact alone but it played into it nicely. I recommend giving this book a try.
WOW I loved this book. A fast paced murdery thriller that I had a hard time putting down. This is the 3rd book I've read of Michelle Powers, and I've enjoyed them all so much I have a hard time deciding which is my favorite. I love how quickly she's able to paint a picture of the characters in your mind, her knack for story flow made me keep saying "just one more chapter". When we "figured it out" I was super surprised. Such a good twist!
I've read several books by this author and enjoyed them all.
The Delivery was a fast paced thriller, with many twists that kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat! I loved the main character of Jess and her job as a delivery driver (think Doordash). This story was so atmospheric & eerie, and kept me reading way into the night.
Jess is delivering food to pay the rent. But in one late night delivery to a remote house, she hears screams. She starts to get the feeling she may be the killers next target.
This was a fast paced, tense thriller and it was incredible! Michelle Powers describes the characters and settings so well, I feel as if I’m in the story with them. This is a must read.
Would you make a delivery that would change your life forever?
In this twisty and unputdownable thriller you will meet Jess, a delivery driver who is down on her luck. Until one day she makes a delivery that will change everything!
Read this in less than 2 days. Loves the short chapters, the occasional back stories, and how it all ties together in the end.
Jess is down on her luck and picks up a part-time delivery job to make ends meet. One delivery in a desolate area leads to a nightmare but little does she know that her friends and family aren't what they seem. Wanting to do the right thing may end up being the cause of her death. The Delivery is one story that you'll want to finish in one sitting.
See something, say something or turn a blind eye and get on with your life is the dilemma facing our delivery driver whose life has already fallen apart. Michelle Powers has done it again with another page Turner that will keep you up all night and shun become a delivery driver.
Just 8 chapters in and I've found myself screaming at the characters. The story was full of gasp moments. The characters were well developed and entertaining none the less. The twist twisted like no other. The level of intensity had me on the edge of my seat. Overall The Delivery Delivered and Michelle Powers has another hit on her hands.
Thank you Bookfunnel and Michelle Powers for the ARC.
This book was good. It kept you guessing and at the edge of your seat. So many twists and turns. Jess didn’t know what was happening and fell in love while she was trying to stay save. It’s a fast read
Want a book you can't put down? One that makes your mind second guess itself and makes you question who you can trust? THIS is that book! With twists and turns, your heart will be pounding every page. This fast paced, easy read will give you a new perspective on ordering take out.
Highly recommend! This fast-paced thriller keeps you on edge from start to finish. Just when you think you have it figured out, the twist turns everything upside down. Truly left me guessing the whole time and did not see this one coming. In my opinion, this is Michelle’s best work yet.
My favorite thing about this book was that there were rarely any dull moments. It was exciting and unpredictable. The ending was a tad weak, and I have an unanswered question, but I'm definitely gonna check out this author's other work.
Very good read, had me from page 1! Serial killer, delivery driver, what could they possibly have in common. You’re going to have to read it to find out!
