Le doy 3 estrellas por que a mi entender creo que merece 3 y media, pero como sabemos Goodreads no tiene esa facilidad de dar medias estrellas… Bueno tengo que decir que al principio no entendí nada, hasta que apareció el problema del prometido de Hortensia donde puede prestar más atención a lo que pasaba. Y al final no esperaba que se suicidaran quemando la casa para que nadie más la tuviera, ni el diagnóstico de Hortensia… Y no voy a mentir tuve que hacer mi research por que no entendí unas cosas y terminó gustándome más por todos los simbolismos que tiene. Ademas lo leí por que está lectura se la dieron a mi hermana el año pasado para su clase de español y dije no puede estar taaaan complicada y me salió el tiro por la culata. Pero gracias eso pienso que está bien que las escuelas implementen un poco más de estas obras puertorriqueñas en las clase de español… Ahora tengo ganas de ir al teatro para poder visualizarla mejor y que me llegue a gustar mucho más esta gran obra puertorriqueña. 🇵🇷☺️

I found I disliked the book after my spanish teacher analized it to death. THe simbolisms were widly out of proportion and I had to be careful that what I was reading was really true. For example, if I read: "He entered through the door and the sun shone in his eyes", it doesn't mean that AT ALL. It COULD mean that he died and that the sun was just metaphorically there, but then, not even my teacher comprehended it. LIke I had said before, it's pretty difficult to get into. 1.5 stars... and I'm being generous.

It's a book really difficult to get into, but once you do, its a great read. I really loved all the flashbacks and simbolisms present. The ending was the best part, you wouldn't believe it ended the way it did. 4 stars.

En verdad nunca lo hubiera leído, pero lo hice ya que era una lectura obligatoria y además tenía que hacerlo para salir bien en el examen que se impartiría. Creo que la mitad de mi salón ni la va a leer ya que leerán los resúmenes, pero pues... “Los soles truncos” de René Marqués es una obra corta de teatro. En verdad fue interesante, me gustan las obras puertorriqueñas ya que te muestran otra época, creencias, costumbres, etc. Al principio no entendía bien, pero se puso interesante cuando el prometido de Hortensia le fue infiel y al final también me quedé OMG. No puedo creer que en la escuela nos permitan leer una historia donde las protagonistas: Inés y Emilia, se suicidan al crear in incendio en su propia casa para que el “banco” no se las pueda quitar.

This is probably one of the best plays in Latin American literature, I loved every line of it, even more after reading for a second time in a Literature course at the University. A year later I had a chance to see the play with one of my favorite actresses (Johanna Rosaly) as one the leading ladies, just breathtaking.

Luego de haber leído Los Soles Truncos tuve la oportunidad de asistir a la adaptación en el teatro de la UPR con mi grupo de humanidades. ¡Espectacular! Una de mis obras favoritas. Es la obra que me hizo conocer a Marqués y representa mucho para mí.
