The Killigrew Street Case Files #2

Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights

Rate this book
How to survive fake dating your telepathic arch nemesis during an undercover mission in Scotland:

1. Don't think horrible thoughts about him in case he's listening in. The creep.
2. Ensure Freddy the zombie ferret doesn't bite him. Much.
3. Try not to call him Detective Dickface (unless he really deserves it).
4. Don't let him find out you're catching feelings for him.

Rory

Imagine my surprise when my missing ex-boyfriend's phone pings back to life in the one place I swore I'd never set foot in again: home. Home to the pack I left years ago, where I’d learned I’d never be enough.

I'm probably mad for agreeing to go—after all, the pack gathering I've been invited to is definitely a trap—but even more crazily, I'm being sent with a man who hates my guts. The detective who threw me into a cell during a full moon, condemning me to an agony that I still have nightmares over.

It doesn’t help that he's hotter than hell. Thankfully, he's straight, otherwise the way he looks at me sometimes might put ideas in my head… If I were ever able to forgive him, of course.

Theodore
He's loud. He's infuriating. He thinks it's okay to insult me to my face.
So why have I agreed to partner up with Rory Thorne to investigate missing shifters?

And even worse, why have I agreed to pretend to be his boyfriend?!

Being a telepath means I've always kept the world at arm's length. I don't have time for tiny wolves with chaotic energy and ridiculous hair and eyes that taunt me with their enigmatic colour—an ocean-forest riddle that distracts me more than I care to admit.

Can the two of us pull off our undercover mission? Possibly, if we don't kill each other first...

Or, even worse, kiss.

Contains: a bi-awakening in a moonlit forest, only one bed because the hotel clerk ships them, a zombie ferret that likes to get bitey, wolf cuddles, “let’s get this out of our system,” and a rather mysterious zapping thing…

Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights is the second in the Killigrew Street Case Files series, a collection of MM PNRs centered around a found family of supernatural detectives. Each can be read as a standalone, but start from book one for maximum enjoyment.

🎧𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 — 𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝒍𝒚 𝑩𝒚 𝑴𝒊𝒅𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕🎧

// Shit, you feel like magic
God, I love the way you talk
The way you feel, baby //

“Just stop calling me Detective Dickface and we can call it even.” My face split into a grin. I looked directly at him, broadcasting loudly… What about in my own head?
“No.”
Aww, but you love it, though.
“I really, really don’t.”

A chaotic werewolf and a telepathic detective who kind of hate each other, go on an undercover mission as fake boyfriends. But underneath the hate, there might be a special spark.

A mix of sweet romance and an action-y high stakes plot. I gotta admit, I enjoyed one more than the other, but overall this was adorable and fun.

He sighed, long and deep, a sound of resignation. “Yes, Rory. Yes, I like you.”
“But do you like, like me?”

I always fall for a relatable chaotic mess, and Rory was just a sweet puppy that wanted someone to love him, flaws and all.
And grumpy Theodore couldn’t help but fall for him too.

Rory’s euphoria flooded through our connection, his climax building in tandem with mine. The double sensation—my own physical pleasure layered with the echo of his—was overwhelming.

What’s better than a telepath MC? A mate bond and a pleasure feedback loop. Looooved the spice, how Theodore and Rory just clicked, the passion, the intimacy. Despite Theo’s stern toppy vibes and Rory giving bratty bottom, they balanced each other out in the bedroom — vers boys who love to pleasure their partner.

“I mean, my wolf basically took one look at you and went ‘that one, definitely that one, yes please with a cherry on top.’”

It kind of lost me towards the end, the action and mission taking over the rest of the book. Still, I’m loving this paranormal series and this crazy found family, and I can’t wait for the next one.

He kissed me like I was moonlight and he’d been lost in darkness.

this made me soo happy!! I was excited to read more about this world without waiting too long (yay) and now I’m already anticipating book 3!!!

“Forever with you would be the greatest adventure I never knew I was looking for.”

Theodore and Rory were EXACTLY like how I imagined their book to be. Chaotic, hurting and so much loving 💗💗 they were so good to each other and the fact that they literally couldn’t have many barriers between them made their romance so much more sweet and precious

I don’t really have a negative thing to say about this book? I couldn’t put it down the entire day💅✨

and freddy the zombie ferret??? one of my most favorite members of their group

“Listen, all you need to do to make Freddy like you is feed him. It’s really that simple.”
“I don’t negotiate with terrorists.”

after book 1, I would have expected the book 3 couple. they were just not in my mind but after this book I’m defo anticipating them together!!!! They’re going to be SOFT.

Ever since finishing book 1, I was waiting for Rory and Detective Dickface’s - ehm , I mean Theo’s - story and lemme tell you, it was worth the wait!

We’re thrust right into the middle of an investigation: shifters have been vanishing for over a year, the most recent being Rory’s ex-boyfriend Dev, a journalist digging into these disappearances. So the Killigrew Street gang takes on the case - specifically the adorable werewolf with ADHD Rory alongside telepath Theodore Maxwell (aka Detective Dickface), who is the bane of Rory’s existence, unfortunately pretty hot, and definitely very straight (yeah, right lol).

As they follow clues and travel up to the Scottish Highlands (FUCK YEAH!), they maaay or may not have to share a bed and fake being boyfriends along the way (heheheheh) 🤭 And despite the kinda rough start to their acquaintance in book 1, we can see the animosity between them quickly fading, being replaced by something much softer.

The tenderness Theo started developing for Rory was so beautiful to witness. It was gradual, convincing, and incredibly relatable. He began seeing all of Rory’s facets - his cheekiness, his chaos, and especially his vulnerability. And it didn’t stop at tenderness; we also got possessiveness, jealousy, and so much protectiveness that my heart sped up 🥹

I loved the vibrancy of Rory’s thoughts and how Theo was helpless to shut them out, which made for some incredibly entertaining scenes. I also adored wolf Rory and getting glimpses into his wolfish thoughts, and Theo’s little poems scattered throughout were such a lovely touch.

On top of that, Rory’s ADHD, his struggles with it, the way his horrendous family treated him growing up, and how that fed into his deep self-worth issues - feeling broken, never enough, hiding behind snark and chaos - were all portrayed with so much care.

I also appreciated how mind-reading wasn’t treated as purely convenient - it’s exhausting, invasive, and makes close relationships difficult when you constantly know what people really think of you. Honestly, I wouldn’t want that power either, would you?

The mystery here was well crafted (even if a bit ott) and kept me guessing, spinning theories, and GASPING at some of the plot twists.

That being said: the pacing could have been a bit tighter (570 pages is a lot and it easily could’ve lost at least a hundred), so to me it dragged a bit at some points. Also, for a book with a literal mind reader MC, there was still quite a bit of miscommunication. Rory’s impulsiveness and lack of forethought also had me wanting to shake him - but to be fair, it was very in line with his character (even if I was aggressively chewing my nails at some of his choices, lol).

SO keen for Kit and Felix’ book now 😍 The author does such a great job introducing future pairings without making it feel heavy-handed or like we’re being force-fed setup.

Sigh, I just love this little chaos family 🥰

PS: Wolf Rory is THE cutest:
Raindrops-lemongrass-mine angry. Don’t like. I fix. Launch myself at him. Full weight. Knock backwards into heather. Pin shoulders. Lick face‑neck-everywhere. Salt-sweat-fear taste. Mine-mine-mine.
“Rory, what the hell—” Muffled under my tongue.
Lick harder. Joy bubbles up. Found him. Safe now.
GAAAAH 😭🐺🥹🥰

Many thanks to the author and GRR for the chance to read this arc! This is my honest opinion!

Raindrops-lemongrass-mine.

Such a delightful, sexy, action packed shifter romance!

4,5 stars but I'll round up (even if it wasn't perfect) because of Rory and the way the author handled the falling in love vs mating bond theme.

I enjoyed this second installment more than the first, despite enemies to lovers not being my favourite.

Rory was a messy MC and I loved him for it. It was satisfying to see how he (very slowly) went from unfairly accusing Theodore for what had happened a year and a half ago, to admitting his own responsibility.
Theodore was perfect for Rory.

As soon as an author introduces the probability of a mating bond between the MCs, I usually have a hard time believing that they're simultaneously falling in love. Not with Rory and Theodore, though. I adored them.

This book is what enemies to lovers is all about, like, the tension between Theodore and Rory was potent from the beginning. Their dynamic was hot, frustrating, funny, sweet, and protective, truly everything I love in a book. The writing and dialogue flowed effortlessly, the characters were endearing (and frustrating) from the first chapter, and the plot was plotting hard asf. Like I didn't even wanna go to sleep because I needed to know what happened next.

I went in blind and read this one before book 1 (oopsies 🤭) It’s a standalone (though the stories are connected) and I didn’t feel lost nor did I feel like I was getting an info dump of the last book. Damn did I have such a good time and I’m definitely planning on going back and reading book 1. I finished this almost 500 page book in 3 days bc it was just that good I was truly locked in 🤝

Theodore was everything 😍 Sarcastic characters with dry (very British) humor are my bread and butter. I loved the nuanced portrayal he was given and I applaud the great representation of a Black man by the author. Theo was deeply feeling, intelligent and observant (even without his telepathy), patient and forgiving without being a pushover, soft and sweet but also fierce and possessive. And this is not the most important BUT also very important…he was so HOT 🥵 there is an awakening for sure, and damn was it good 🫠

And Rory, my sweet chaotic, wolf shifter bby 🥺 He was soo hard on himself, even when things weren’t his fault, I related to his character so much. I just wanted to give him a hug. 🫂 However, there were times that I did wanna punch him 👊🏾 for how he treated Theo, but then I learned why he was so mean and just wanted him to be taken care of and loved. I loved the POVs we got in his wolfy form it was such a fresh take on the genre.

If you’re looking for a book with a fun, engaging plot that keeps you reading until 3am, found family vibes galore, beautiful atmospheric prose and detailed world building, laugh out loud dialogue, a sweet, hot, possessive love story and a creepy-cute zombie ferret called Freddie, you’ll wanna read this one 🤎

Arc Review:Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights (The Killigrew Street Case Files #2) by T.J. Rose

Mine, mine, mine.
Accidental mate bond causes chaos
I hate you but I can’t stop obsessing over your eyes?
Two sad boys need love 💔

What a page-turner… and once again my moody reading brain decided to attack me 😭 It took me a while to get through this, and I honestly can’t explain why, because the book is good. The plot? Incredible.
The characters? Adorable.
The whole story? So beautiful, so hot, so emotionally rich.
The beginning was a bit slow for me — it felt like nothing major happened for a while — but then suddenly:
thump,thump,thump
mine, mine, mine
claim,claim, claim
mate, mate, mate

So basically Rory and Theo get thrown into this undercover mission in the Scottish Highlands because shifters are going missing left and right. And of course… to blend in, they have to fake-date. Perfect, except they can barely tolerate each other and Teddy can literally hear every annoyed thought Terrier has. Romantic.

What starts off as “ugh, I can’t stand you” turns into mate-bond sparks, jealousy, hormones, and a whole lot of mine, mine, mine. The plot ties back into the mess from Bite Marks & Broken Hearts, but now we get pack politics, danger, Highlands cold-as-hell vibes, only one bed, and Freddy the zombie ferret doing what he does best: thriving in chaos.

Basically, they’re forced to trust each other, protect each other, and — obviously — catch feelings they absolutely did not plan on.

And honestly? Their dynamic hits SO much harder when you realise what’s underneath all the snark. Rory is a walking chaotic storm of ADHD energy, anxiety, childhood trauma, and desperate longing for someone who actually sees him. He’s messy, impulsive, sweet, way too trusting sometimes, and just wants to be loved for exactly who he is. His wolf brain going mine mine mine made me melt.

Theo, on the other hand, is grumpy, exhausted, telepathic, and completely done with everyone’s thoughts — especially Rory’s, which are loud, bright, chaotic, emotional, and impossible to ignore. His ability isn’t treated like a fun party trick; it’s overwhelming, invasive, and makes emotional intimacy so damn hard. Watching this man slowly soften, get possessive, get jealous, and start caring? Delicious.

I loved the mate-bond feelings, Teddy using his telepathy for very creative reasons, the scent-marking, and their shared vulnerability. There’s just so much happening, and T.J. Rose always knows exactly how to make me want every detail. And the Killigrew Street found family? Chef’s kiss. Always.

I’ll admit I’m getting a bit tired of the whole “omg he’s straight / he’ll regret this / he could never love me” spiral — but at the same time, those doubts do make sense for these two, so I can’t even be mad about it. And this was way too long, the first 40% was just dragging…

I’m SO excited for the next book. Kit and Felix are already favourites, and seeing them as a couple?
YES. PLEASE.

"Well, you said you accidentally bonded us. So I wasn’t sure—”
I cut him off with another kiss, to his mouth this time. “Trust me, the accidental bit was just the timing. I mean, my wolf basically took one look at you and went ‘that one, definitely that one, yes please with a cherry on top.’ But like I said, if this is too much for you—if I’m too much for you—we can try and—”
Now it was Maxwell’s turn to stop me, smashing his lips into mine. Then he kissed me, soft and sweet under the Highland sky. Our bond sang between us, a perfect harmony that made my wolf purr. I pressed closer, practically trying to climb inside his jacket, while Maxwell’s grip tightened as if he could absorb me into himself, keep me safe in the circle of his arms. Like he never wanted to let me go, like he wanted to keep me safe and close forever. He still smelled like me—my scent clinging to his skin beneath the crisp Highland air and his own familiar warmth. Mine.

"One bed. One very clearly not-quite-large-enough bed for two grown men to share without some level of proximity. I swallowed hard, the room shrinking around me. Or maybe it was just that Rory, already peering at the view out of the window, seemed to fill whatever space he occupied with his energy, his movement, his very presence."

Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights is the second book in a new paranormal series by T.J. Rose called The Killigrew Case Files. It's a series of linked standalone MM romances, each featuring a different couple and mystery but connected by their growing supernatural team and overarching plot threads. Whilst they can be separately, I highly recommend reading them in order, starting with Bite Marks & Broken Hearts.

This is Rory and Maxwell's story and I loved it. This series is fast becoming my next PNR comfort read!

What To Expect:

🖤MM PNR
🖤Enemies to lovers
🖤Fake dating
🖤Only one bed
🖤Bi-awakening
🖤Slow burn
🖤Found family
🖤HEA for the couple
🖤Cliff hanger for the overarching series

I love, loved this!! The way I couldn’t put it down. These characters had me from the prologue.

One of my favorite reads of the year! The banter!! It was perfect. And I just love their little found family. And that Theo finally gave in and joined them. And not only that, but he stood up for Rory.

“Maxwell hating me made sense. Maxwell kissing me? That was madness.”

I found that I related to both characters. Rory’s constant inner monologue and loneliness. And Theo also felt very lonely due to his mind reading abilities. These were two people that really misunderstood each other in the beginning despite being thrown together often.

Rory held onto the detective dickface moniker as long as he could. But it was clear Theo had a soft spot for him from day one. Hence, him agreeing to help him by going to Scotland. And I love that Rory just unabashedly projected his thoughts to Theo.

This was so heavy but also light, sweet but also spicy, and the mystery!! Checked all my boxes.

I would recommend reading book one, Bite Marks, to fully understand the characters and their development. And I cannot wait for the book!

Enjoy my chaotic thoughts!

Early dnf, not rating. I gave up. One of my peeves is a hero blaming other people for his own actions, and Rory blames Theo for trouble Rory got himself into by breaking and entering, and that sets up their animosity. It felt so unfair. I was struggling to root for a hero who doesn't take responsibility for his own actions, and it soured the read for me. And then, Rory pining over his ex for the first third of the story was unbearable--because the ex isn't someone deserving of that, and it felt like Rory had no self respect and I was just getting too mad at the situation. I did a search for Dev's name, and Dev is a major part of this rescue plot--I don't want him rescued and am not interested enough in that motive to continue. I don't want to see him on page.

I LOVED Theo though! His telepathy conflict, trying so hard not to spy on people's thoughts unless necessary, Rory continuing to break through with his messy chaotic thinking--I see the potential, and I understand why so many people love the story!

Okay, this one totally blew me away. I’m going to have to create another category for 6 star reads, because Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights absolutely fits the bill.

Wolf shifter Rory Thorne (aka Terrier, aka Thorne-in-Theo’s-side) is ADHD personified, an absolute chaos gremlin. Eighteen months ago, his tendency to act before thinking landed him in jail on a full moon—absolute hell for a wolf shifter. The man responsible for his arrest, Detective Inspector Theodore Maxwell (aka Detective Dickface, aka Teddy, aka Raindrops-lemongrass-mine) has been his mortal enemy ever since. Now, Rory’s ex-boyfriend is missing, and Rory and Theo must put aside their differences and work together to save him.

I adored Rose’s characterisation of Rory. He was like a puppy bounding on the page, so full of energy and big feelings with a sadness and desperation that Rose captured beautifully. How loyal Rory was to the people who “chose” him, the depth of Rory’s feelings—he truly loved with his heart on his sleeve. He just wanted someone to choose him.

I also loved Theo—poor isolated Theo, constantly surrounded by the thoughts of every person around him but also isolated by them. Where his telepathy had hindered his past relationships, it helped bring Theo and Rory together. Theo’s telepathy got Rory out of his head and cut through his defences, helping Theo understand Rory where most had disregarded him.

Rose brings their signature flair for memorable sex scenes and intimacy that I loved in Bite Marks and Broken Hearts and steps it up in Moonlit Nights, creating wholly unique sex scenes and moments of intimacy between the MC’s that are in a class of their own. Rory and Theo’s coupling was at times wild, explosive and primal, but with an added layer of intimacy courtesy of Theo’s ability to read Rory’s thoughts and act on his unspoken desires.

TJ Rose did not miss a single beat in Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights. This one’s going on my list of all-time favourites, and I think it will go on yours too. If you haven’t read book one, Bite Marks and Broken Hearts, you’ve got time—Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights will be out on November 13.

I was immensely lucky to have the honour of being an alpha reader for this book. I’ve come to really love TJ Rose’s stories, so to be able to work with her in this capacity is a lot of fun! I was also really excited about this book after loving Bite Marks. And she did not disappoint!

The story of Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights flows so very well. It introduces, then takes us on a journey. One that made me laugh, made me yell, made me gasp, made me swoon, made me need a cold shower, made me tear up, and made my heart feel so warm and fuzzy and full. Rory and Theo are so gorgeous together. Their banter, the bickering, the tentative trust, the way they grow towards each other... It's beautiful. And as individuals they both stole my heart, no question.

The mystery is solid and the twist of the "villain" still made me gasp. The humour is so on point and the wolf perspective is so good! Simple but clear and full of feeling. The rest of the killigrew street crew is brilliant like always. Love these people so much! Can't wait for Kit and Felix's story!

Definitely recommend this book if you enjoy paranormal romance with a fun mystery to go along with it.

I received an early copy from the author to alpha read and review. My thoughts are my own.

SO FUCKING GOOD. WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN? This was absolutely perfect in every way, and I already want to reread it. Theo and Rory deserve their own series🙏🏽🙏🏽. Immediately adding to my favorites. This is one of those books where I wish we could have a special sixth star for authors who go above and beyond with their writing.

It’s been awhile since I read the first book so starting this one was slow — I had to re-familiarize myself with the crew and its dynamics. The moment things picked up, I couldn’t put the book down AT ALL. This story has literally every single one of my favorite tropes:

- telepathy LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEEEEE
- detectives / police work
- one bed
- fake boyfriends
- strange pet / familiar
- size difference
- fated mates
- supernatural & paranormal
- mystery & comedy
- HFN
- healthy communication
- “let’s just get this out of our systems” (je l’adore vraiment)
- found family
- introvert x extrovert
- sickeningly sweet dialogue and moments
- solving a crime while “on holiday” (out of town, but at secluded location)
- hurt x comfort
- enemies to lovers — not resolved in the first 3 chapters like other books 🙄
- slow-ish burn
- genuine character development
- bi-awakening / finally addressing your sexuality / this person is the one

You’re telling me I have to wait god knows how long until book 3 gets released??? GLADLY AND PATIENTLY. In the meantime, if anyone has recs for mm romances similar to this one and/or with telepathy, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

This book was incredible!
I loved that it focused so much more on the MC’s mental state compared to the first book. In book one, things were relatively fine, but here our sunshine boy is dealing with PTSD, and some of Rory’s thoughts were genuinely hard and heartbreaking to read 🥺

Theo, on the other hand, is unreal — the sweetest, softest Teddy 😏 who would help anyone, reads every emotion so easily, and most importantly… actually says things out loud. My heart 😭

Their chemistry is absolutely insane. Honestly, I loved it even more than in book one!
The intimate scenes aren’t many again (about three), but they are super hot 🔥

The detective plot was gripping, emotional, and much better balanced than in the first book (which leaned a bit too much into fantasy for me). Here it felt tense, raw, and perfectly blended with the romance.

Terrier and Teddy completely stole my heart. They’re precious beyond words 🥹

5/5 — loved it so much!

This e-ARC was sent to me by the author. This is my honest opinion.

The blurb says that you can read this book without reading the others first, but I wouldn’t recommand doing that. You might miss private jokes or references about events from the first book. If you want the full picture, read the first book in the series.
And I know the third book will be about Kit and Félix, but I really hope Priya and Emma will have their own book. I would love to read their story.

This book was really cute ! Discoverig Rory, Theodore and Killigrew Street was really fun.

5 stars - take all my stars, really!

Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights by TJ Rose is an easy 5-star read that delivers everything I want from a paranormal romance. There's witty banter, emotional depth, and a romance arc that feels completely earned.

Rory and Theodore’s dynamic is electric from the start; enemies forced to fake date (and share one bed!) on an undercover mission in Scotland? Yes, please! Their relationship unfolds beautifully, with character growth that feels natural and heartfelt. You can truly feel their emotions deepen as the story progresses, and the balance between humor, tension, and tenderness is spot-on.

The plot kept me intrigued the whole way through, and the worldbuilding (with shifters, telepaths, and a zombie ferret named Freddy - who absolutely steals scenes) adds just the right amount of charm. TJ Rose has such a talent for creating characters who leap off the page, and this book cements the Killigrew Street Case Files as one of my favorite series in the genre.

Also, having seen the Northern Lights for the very first time during my honeymoon last month, that scene is all the more precious to me. I'm obsessed with this world, these characters, in the best possible way.

If you love fake dating, found family, and a slow-burn romance that feels both magical and real, Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights is an absolute must-read.

Tropes and Tags:
- 1st Person, Dual POV
- A little angst and action
- Fake Dating
- Enemies to lovers
- Wolf shifter x Telepath
- Bi-Awakening
- Found Family

Ever since we met Theo and Rory in the first book I've been super excited for their story, I knew the complete opposites attract would make me obsessed with them - and it did!

Rory is a ball of chaos and energy with incredibly loud thoughts, he's truly the other side of Theodore's somewhat stoic, calm and patient personality. Theo is also a telepath which means all (and I mean ALL) of Rory's racing, intense and sometimes filthy thoughts are getting read loud and clear by Theo, which was sooooooo delicious!!🥵

These two have such insane chemistry that begins as anger because of a bad past experience, but moves from anger, to bickering, to fierce possessiveness for one another. And all that chemistry in the mix of the external tension and drama of the plot had me devouring this so very quickly.

Also it needs to be said there is a third main character in this book - Freddy the zombie ferret, who I absolutely adore. Rory loves Freddy so much and I just couldn't not express how adorable it is.

Anyway, go read about some cute enemies, fake dating in the beautiful Scottish Highlands to solve a mystery, while trying not to fall in love!💚🌲

Oh my god I love love love Rory- I know he’s chaotic but hear me out he is the best kind of chaos, chaos with a big heart and I love his wolf self what a cutie. I think Teddy aka Detective Dickface aka Teddy Bear aka Maxwell needs Rory’s sunshine and his steadiness his grounding his trust is something Rory has been looking for, to be chosen to be wanted.

I am all aswoon (swooning) with their romance - from mortal enemies (ok I exaggerate) to mates, fated for eternity gah and then the plot twists what is going on with meridian and how they uncover that and also I am not a fan of Dev tbh but I’m glad they went to save him. I loved the way Maxwell stood up and stood by Teddy and that ending woah and also the epilogue double woah.

Expect:

- Grumpy Sunshine
- Shifter
- Paranormal clandestine organisation run by black (you meet him in book one but this is a standalone)
- Massively fantastic found family
- A Freddy we love (aka zombie ferret)
- Fake dating
- Forced proximity
- Why were we enemies
- Slowwww burn
- Mine

"I wanted to tell him that someday, he would be loved just as fiercely as he deserved to be. That the right person would see him—truly see him—beyond the chaos and bravado. That someone would cherish every part of him, from his mischievous smile to his boundless energy to the vulnerability he tried so desperately to hide."

A telepath, and wolf shifter, and an accidental mate bond walk into a detective agency. Chaos ensues.

I think I might be a little obsessed with the Killigrew Street Case Files and, in particular, Rory and his undead ferret, Freddy. He's so lovely I just want to squeeze him and tell him everything will be alright and then punch everyone who ever wronged him in the face. It's not a lot to ask.

Book 1 set us up for Rory and Teddy by giving us little snippets of their personalities and interactions, but the reality of a sweet, ADHD chaos gremlin and a grumpy, but lonely telepath was almost too much for my little heart to take. Moonlit Nights & northern Lights' fake dating scenario, that sent them off to the Scottish highlands together with only one bed, set them up perfectly for an intimate and tender romance that blossomed from their animosity towards each other.

I'm not normally one for an enemies to lovers romance - I prefer the sweetness of a friends to lovers - but I couldn't say no to Rory and Teddy. You could tell right from book 1 in the morgue that they were going to have something truly special, and I'll be damned if I was missing out on that! I am so, so glad I ignored my usual not-my-trope-not-for-me mentality and picked it up.

Teddy's mind reading reminded me a lot of my diagnosed OCD. It's constant, it's exhausting, and you have to actively work to not have it invade every part of your life. It shared things in common with OCD intrusive thoughts, though for Teddy they weren't even his own. He had to put up with knowing everything the people around him were thinking - whether it be good or bad, kind or cruel. He expensed so much energy on blocking other people's thoughts out, that he was left exhausted and lonely, and that made my heart ache for him. The only person he couldn't block out was Rory. Which was it's own challenge. It was so interesting to see him deal with the progress of Rory's inner monologue. W went from hearing Rory's mean thoughts about him, to hearing Rory's insecurities that were definitely not meant for him to hear, to hearing Rory's NSFW thoughts about him. I had whiplash from Rory's 5000 mile a minute thoughts, so I can only imagine how Teddy felt. Seeing his attitude towards Rory shift as the story progressed was stunning. The way he went from finding Rory overwhelming to adoring everything about him was absolutely perfect.

And Rory? God, my sweet, sweet boy. He's been through hell and back. His ADHD, PTSD from childhood abuse, anxiety and panic attacks, and his poor self esteem truly make for one skittish, yet hyperactive little wolf. It's no wonder he was broadcasting his thoughts to Teddy without even realising it - he was just desperate for someone aside from his brother to understand him and love him the way he deserved to have been loved as a child. His willingness to travel miles and miles out of his comfort zone and put himself in triggering situations that endangered his life, just for someone who once made him feel loved, broke my heart. I was so goddamn glad that he had Theodore with him every step of the way, even if it was rocky at first. He deserved all the love and kindness in the world - they both do.

Their intimate moments and steamy scenes were so well written that I almost felt like a third in their bedroom. They just had so much chemistry and the feedback loop of thoughts and pleasure that passed between them was truly something else. Their versatility, the jealousy and possessiveness of mine mine mine, and the scent marking - ugh, chefs kiss.
Fated mates spice is some of the most intense, in my opinion, and T.J Rose had it down pat for these two.

I loved that while Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights had its own case to solve, there was still an over-arching mystery and plot that carried it seamlessly from book 1 to book 2, and I can tell already will carry over beautifully to book 3. It was lovely to get a change of scenery from London to the Scottish Highlands, and back again.
I'm so excited for Kit and Felix's book! I can't wait to dive into that relationship headfirst without a lifejacket!

I know I say this every time I read a T.J Rose book, but she hasn't disappointed me yet and I genuinely don't think she could if she tried.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed the first book in the Killigrew Street Case Files and was excited to read the next installment. It did not disappoint. This volume focused on Rory and Detective Maxwell was everything I wanted from paranormal romantasy. It was sweet, it was spicy, it had mystery and it had more of the endearing characters that I have come to associate with TJ Rose and their works.

The mystery and conflict at the center of the story was occasionally a bit predictable but no less engaging for it. It definitely made me want to keep reading not to see what happened but to see how the characters that I have come to love would react to the situation. Rory was definitely a standout character from the first book in the series and the groundwork was laid for the relationship that developed here. It was beautiful to watch the interactions that took place to lead Rory toward healing.

I am excited for the continuation of the story and to see the next relationship blossom as we watch the original relationships grow and mature.

Moonlit Nights & Northern Lights was absolutely everything I'd been hoping for and more. :) I fell in love with Rory as a side character in the first book of this series, Bite Marks & Broken Hearts, and was so excited to read his story. I love both Rory and Theodore's backstories, and how their specific baggage rubs the other one wrong in just the right way. Rory - a werewolf with ADHD - has always been too much for the people in his life - too loud, too fidgety, too impulsive. Meanwhile, telepath Theodore keeps himself under very tight control, and compensates for the invasion of the thoughts others into his mind by keeping everyone at arm's length. And for whatever reason, Theo has a harder time than usual shutting out one particular hyperactive werewolf's thoughts... Cue some very uncomfortable (and sometimes heartbreaking) situations and miscommunications! I love these two together - Rory brings Theo some very needed missing spark in his life, and meanwhile Theo gives Rory a solid, supportive foundation to support him. Also, the sexy times are SEXY!

This is the second book in The Killigrew Street Case Files. The series has been written so the books can each be read as standalones, but so far both books are SUPER good so it's worth reading in order (because you're going to want to go back and read book one, Bite Marks & Broken Hearts, after reading this one anyway). I am so pumped for Kit and Felix's story next!! (The Killigrew Street Case files book 3, Glitched Fates & Stolen Mates, coming Oct 2026!)

A slowburn MM paranormal romance with Wolf-shifter x Telepath, Hate to Lovers, Opposites Attract, Forced Proximity, Size Difference, Bi-awakening! It has banter, age-gap (7yrs), missing wolves (& ex 😅), accidental bonds (but fated??), zombie ferret, found family, London streets & Scottish highlands.
This is one of my 2025 #ARC, I hadn't read it as it's bulky but now I'm free & did! It took me 2 ch to remember all & then I had fun. Loved Rory & Theodore, but gosh I still needed more of 'em 😩.

Rory is a wolf shifter with ADHD. R's impulsive, chaotic, teasing & feels deeply. He has a need for validation & his panic, self loathing cut me 🥺. R's such a vibrant, sweetheart! His ex-pack UGH 😤.
D.I. Theodore is a gifted human: telepath. T's calm, collected, procedural, planner & protective. Due to his powers, T's lonely 🥺, his career is all he has. Oh, you def made your Dad proud! His bi journey was fun 🤭.

R came into T's life like a tsunami. Omg heir bickering 😂. But its rooted in hurt, guilt 😔. With case, forced to be close & sparks sizzle 😁; pretend bfs & fantasies 🤭. It has Only-1-bed done right 😂. Gosh, it's SLOWW burn, I even looked forward lil twice 😅 to tide me over. But when they FINALLY give in & the talks, understanding happen, marvelous! I love me vers couple 😍. T+R fit well 🤭. Plenty of moonlit nights, loved when we got Aurora!!

Wolves lore & case suspense/action are great. I'm proud I guessed few twists! R's ideas are NOT stupid 😁. R's ex Dev is big part, so there's jealousy but phew no love triangle 😮‍💨. Insecurities hurt 🥹. Struggles with ADHD, trauma were depicted well, some about racism too. I loved to see all the Indian names!

But it ends with case, I really wanted to see'em on dates 🥹 & 1st ILY 😩. Plus, with how T'd crossed THAT line in climax, he settled in easily 🤔. It's not a big thing in PNR but IT was his 1ST time. I'd've loved to see T's mom! Cute ending, R'll take patience to trust fully but I'm glad T's up for it ☺️. Excited for next book! That was quite the tease at end 🤯.

Story Ratings:

POV: 1st person, Dual POV
1) Enjoyed? —> Yeah 5/5
2) The Characters: 5/5
3) Top feels: 😅😮‍💨😁🥴🥹🤭😩😂😍😏😳🥵🥺🤔😤😐🤯😆🥰😭🙌😊🌌🐺
4) Steamy scenes: 2.5/5
5) Levels: Cute+Swoon: 4/5
Angst: 3.25/5
Dark: 3/5
6) Creativity + world: 4.6/5
7) Plot arc: (Opposites, fake to real love, PNR case) 4.5/5
8) Writing style + pace: 4.5/5

really hard to get through

Rory is just such an annoying character. As someone who has adhd, trying to get through this book was like chewing on needles. While the author seems to have genuinely tried to represent ADHD in a thoughtful manner, there is a sense of wrongness that prevails throughout the entire novel. I hate, hate, hate when adhd is used as a way to excuse bad behavior, such as taking anger out on other people, being insensitive, being self centered, and being incompetent, etc etc. While the intentions are there, it definitely seems like TJ Rose just did a precursory google search on adhd symptoms and dramatized it to the extreme. It seems completely and absolutely overblown. Because Rory has adhd his family completely disowned him??? What in the world??? Because he can’t sit still???? It was just so weird. I really liked maxwells character but the chemistry between him and Rory was simply nonexistent, especially because throughout the entire book I felt like Rory didn’t deserve Maxwell. Just absolutely infuriating.

This second installment of Killigrew Street was a fun read that went by relatively quickly for a 500+ page book.

I liked how the mystery plot separates Rory and Theo from the rest of the team so I got to know them more as individuals. I especially loved Rory's experiences with ADHD and how quickly Theo picks up on and commits to supporting him through deeply held insecurities.

I'm not a fan of comic-relief animal sidekicks or fake dating, but these elements didn't feel too obtrusive to me.

I'm grateful for a chance to check out an advance copy. I'm leaving this review of my own accord.

i loved the first book yet somehow this was ever better!! this book is on the longer side and stayed up until 4am just because i had to finish it! it had me completely gripped from the very first chapter, from the mystery plot line to the characters dynamics there wasn’t anything not to love!

i’ve been so interested in rory since we met him, i just knew that i would adore him even more once i got to know him and was in his head and i was right. he’s so sassy which i love, but then we also get to see his heart and how much he loves and cares for everyone. now theodore… i’m obsessed. he’s got that whole grumpy, serious, no bs thing going on but he’s such a softy!! these two definitely start out on the wrong foot and there’s some major hostility at the beginning, but we slowly get to see them pull back their layers and get vulnerable and just get to know each other. i’m just in love with their relationship and dynamic, even when they’re together they never lose that easy banter that they have!

i’m so excited for kit and felix and to see where this plot goes!

How hard would it have been to stage a "slipped cuff" escape? Or would arrestees escaping besmirch Maxwell's reputation too much as well?

While this book was enjoyable, and suffered less from overly long sad monologuing than the first, I couldn't get past the whole Theodore arresting Rory and wasn't at all in the wrong to do so. I'm strongly ACAB and Maxwell just kinda drove that notion through his actions. His career and reputation is more important than stopping two people from enduring an entire night of torture. And the entire book I kept wondering, if he had been less concerned about saving face and "performing his duty" and actually investigated the clinic during that night, how many wolves could have been saved?

Just left a sour taste in my mouth the whole book long. Especially since it was poorly resolved and Maxwell was absolved of any wrongdoing or even misjudged actions. Nah he's a typical cop. Bleh.

Earlier this year, I read Bite Marks & Broken Hearts, Book 1 in The Killigrew Street Case Files, and it ended up being one of the best books I've read in recent years. Needless to say, my excitement for the sequel was through the roof. Now that I've finished Book 2, I can happily say it delivered on every front.

Moonlight Nights & Northern Lights is the second book in The Killigrew Street Case Files. You don't necessarily need to read the first one, but I highly recommend it. Not just for context, but because it's a phenomanel story. This book follows Rory, our favourite chaos shifter, and Theo, the no-nonsense detective who's been helping the Killigrew Crew for some time. When Rory's ex-boyfriend goes missing and his phone is traced near Rory's former pack lands, Rory is forced to return to a past he'd rather forget. The Crew refuses to let him go alone, so Theo volunteers to join him, posing as his fake boyfriend. Because clearly, their relationship wasn't complicated enough already.

Going into a sequel for a book I adored always makes me a little nervous. Not because I doubt the author's ability, because I've read all of her works and loved everything, but because sometimes it's just hard to live up to something that special. Thankfully, there was nothing to worry about here. This book delivers everything the first one did and even improves in some areas.

Rory is such a burst of sunshine, and I want nothing but happiness for him. He's complex, optimistic and misunderstood. His bubbly, over-the-top personality acts like a shield, but it never hides his warmth. He carries insecurities and childhood trauma, and he admits to being a bit of an asshole in the past (especially towards Theo), but over the course of this story, he grows into one of the sweetest, most perceptive and genuinely hilarious characters I've read in a long time. He can be a little exhausting at times, but never from a place of malice - he just doesn't know when to stop talking, as I'm sure many of my fellow ADHD gremlins can relate.

Theo is Rory's complete opposite in many ways, but despite their rocky start over the years, all he's ever wanted to do is understand Rory. He's patient, caring, and deeply empathetic. Even when Rory's energy can be overwhelmng, Theo sees through the chaos to who he really is. He's easily my favourite character in this book - making me smile, cry (both happy and sad tears), fan myself and genuinely adore him as a person. He's the perfect balance to Rory. I said this about Bite Marks, but it bears repeating: the emotional maturity in how these characters handle their feelings is SO refreshing. So many stories rely on miscommunication, but there's almost none of that here, which made the book an absolute joy to read.

The central mystery in this story is excellent. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Book 1, but that's more about scale than quality. The first book felt massive in scope, involving the entire Crew, while this one focuses more closely on Theo and Rory. It's no less enganging though. Rory's old pack - or "family" - is a fascinating, tense mix of personalities. I can't say much without spoilers, but you're throwin into a world of shifting loyalties where it's hard to tell who to trust, and when the truth finally comes out, it's a real surprise. I guessed the villain wrong, though that might be because I was secretely hoping it would be someone else for purely selfish reason haha.

I have to talk about their first time together - without spoilers, of course. I mentioned this in my Bite Marks review, but T.J. Rose writes first-time scenes like no one else. They're emotional, intimate and written with such beauty that they almost feel like poetry. Tearing up during spicy scenes is not something that I am familiar with, but in both this book and it's predecessor, I absolutley did.

I could go on and on about this series because it's one of the strongest new series I've read in a long while. Every member of the Killigrew Crew has so many layers, and I desperately want books about all of them. Speaking of which - Book 3? Kit and Felix? (I totally called that in Bite Marks, by the way hehe). I hope we get to see how their story began, since it's clearly simmering in the background here.

To sum all of this up, Moonlight Nights & Northern Lights is a truly fantastic read. T.J. Rose has done it again, crafting one of the most beautiful bi-awakenings and tender slow burns of the year. This is an absolute must-read for any fans of the genre and I very thankfully for the ARC provided by the author.

"Rory," I said, quite seriously. "You're impossible to ignore."
-ˏˋ⋆⋆ˊˎ-
Story: 4/5
Spice: High
Characters: 4/5
-ˏˋ⋆⋆ˊˎ-
Overall reco:
First off, the spice was pretty High, especially in what I'd call the 2nd half of the book, but the tension started before that and was enjoyable. Highly enjoyable.
I struggled to really get a foot hold into the first 100 or so pages of the book, but not like when I'm despising the book. They were amusing characters and the story was interesting but I was getting so frustrated the investigation and with/for Rory. I think it was more like, as the reader, we believed Rory. So all the way up until they actually leave for Scotland I was so annoyed and frustrated and I kept having to put the book down.
I HIGHLY enjoyed watching Theo's slow realization. The little moments. Smiling at Rory's wolf form, the little electric shocks, moments where he realized Rory had been through some significant shit (just like him). I loved when he became Rory's biggest supporter.
As for the Mystery! I guessed it partially pretty early on BUT that didn't detract from the reveal(s) that happened later on. In fact it made me sick with anticipation for a specific section of the book. I don't know if we were supposed to have guessed it but holy shit that whole section I wanted to vomit and stayed up way to late to power through it because I needed to know.

(Other Notes)
A point of contention on the page count. My ebook copy shows that the story stopped at 502, so if the over 500 pages on this book concerns you.. there you go. I mention this because the count on GR is SO far off.
note: There is a christmas themed novella that takes place before this in the timeline. Events in it a referenced in this book. I did not read it, mostly because I forgot about it. It didn't affect the enjoyment but you might want to pick that up from the authors newsletter before this since it's reference.
Thank you to TJ Rose for the ARC!

"Wild thing wreathed in silver light, Beauty carved from moon and night."

Thank you, T.J. Rose, for allowing me to read an early copy!

I didn't think T.J. Rose could outdo Bite Marks & Broken Hearts, but oh my god! She did and then some. I will be thinking about Rory and Theo for the rest of my life. I will never be able to get over the chemistry these two characters had.

Rory is chaos in an adorably kissable package! He has baggage, but obviously doesn't let that stop him from being his authentic self. He is something else, and his specific character development spoke to my soul. I loved seeing him go from so nervous and worried to standing on business. He needed to stick up for himself and love the person he truly was, even though he is a small - but cute! - Wolf, he was still strong. He just couldn't see it.

Theo, teddy bear..... I can say, I have never loved a fictional man more than this squishy telepath. His broody outward appearance was enticing. His habit of fighting over everything and being easily annoyed was gold! The author described him so well. It was like he was an adorable little treat that I couldn't help but devour! The protectiveness? OOH, I couldn't stop screaming over his need to protect Rory! Aaaaaaaaaand he writes poetry, ughhhhh. I melted every time!

Then the spice! - oooo baby! T.J. Rose can write spice like she was blessed by the gods. Those scenes will live rent-free in my head forever. I still get butterflies just thinking about it!

I'm so invested in this overarching story. I can't wait for all the secrets to come to light in the next book. I don't know if I will survive waiting till next year! I will have to recommend this book to anyone who will listen.

100/5 stars!!

It really is rare that a sequel has me wondering which book I loved more especially when I loved the first one. This was a ride and a half and I loved every second of it. If I had not had adult responsibilities and a toddler to care for this would have been devoured in like 8 hours but alas adulting.

I related so much to Rory. His brain is my brain. His anxiety about everything and the way his inner thoughts worked was very much me and I loved that feeling of being seen through a character. I loved the way that you saw Theo slowly understand Rory through the course of the book. Rory was a little shit who really needed to slow down and realize how his actions affected others.

The growth that Rory has and the way that his relationship with Theo grows is just chef’s kiss. I love that we get a conversation of Rory’s past actions towards Theo and that it isn’t just brushed under the rug for the sake of these two getting together. And the conversation we got between Rory and Kit near the end, I was sobbing.

One thing I love about TJ Rose is her ability to create such unique and individual characters and not have them somehow meld into each other. Each character has a distinct personality and they just thrive with her writing. And each character isn’t perfect. They have their flaws and that just makes them all the more human to me.

I need book 3 yesterday. I have so many more things I could say but my brain is just going WE LOVED THIS NEXT ONE PLEASE. Kit and Felix cannot come quicker for me.

*thank you to TJ for sending this arc in exchange for my honest review*
