There IS a Planet B: Implementing the Greatest Transformation in Human History

Rate this book
There IS a Planet B makes the case that the transformation from the climate heating phase to the climate healing phase of our civilization requires upending the four foundational myths on Planet A and replacing them with the four foundational truths on Planet B, while changing how we do everything fundamentally.

The four foundational myths on Planet A
1. Protein is only found in animal foods;
2. Calcium is only found in dairy foods;
3. Human well-being necessitates endless economic growth; and
4. Fossil fuel use is the leading cause of climate change.

The four foundational truths on Planet B
1. All plant foods have all amino acids and have complete protein;
2. If you eat enough calories, you will get enough calcium;
3. Human well-being necessitates a sense of purpose; and
4. Animal husbandry is the leading cause of climate change, while stopping fossil fuel use now is suicidal.

The burning of fossil fuels releases both climate heating gases such as carbon dioxide as well as climate cooling gases such as sulfur dioxide. While the cooling gases remain in the atmosphere for just a few weeks, the heating gases remain for tens of years. If fossil fuel use were reduced drastically, it would lead to a rapid increase in global warming in a matter of weeks - 2023 and 2024 were the hottest years to date most likely due to the decrease in sulfur in fossil fuels burnt in shipping over the open seas leading to a reduction in cooling emissions.

On Planet B, we routinely give more than we take, while on Planet A we routinely take more than we give. The best news is that almost every aspect of this greatest transformation in human history is already being implemented worldwide.

As Glen Merzer said, "The world is not such a terrible place, as long as you look at it wrong."
