THE HOTTEST STORY IN TOWN

When it came to covering murders, reporter Blake Nickels was the best in town--until a lady named Sabrina Jones came along. Now, no matter what the story was, she always seemed to be a step or two ahead of him ....

She had other ways of driving him crazy, too--ways that had nothing to do with headlines and deadlines. All it took was one little red dress--and one breathtaking little kiss--and suddenly he was having a very hard time keeping his mind on crime ....

Trouble was, the killer they were both investigating was hot on her trail, too. And if Blake couldn't protect her, she was really going to be front-page news ....

Linda Turner

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Linda Turner and her identical twin sister, Brenda, were known throughout the neighborhood in which they grew up simply as "Twin."

No one except their parents and their older brother could tell them apart. They dressed alike, wore their hair alike, and even had the same glasses, so it wasn’t surprising that they were stared at everywhere they went.

Consequently, when Linda announced at the age of 25 that she was going to start writing romance novels, she wasn’t surprised when Brenda said, "I don’t care how famous your name gets, just make sure your face doesn’t become recognizable!"

Needless to say, Linda’s face isn’t known in every household in the U.S. — yet. Recently, she spent six weeks taking screenwriting classes at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, and she’s made no secret of the fact that she plans to write and — hopefully — sell a screenplay in the new millennium.

In The Lady in Red we get Blake's story, who worked with Sydney and covered the sports beat(in The Loner and makes an appearance here). Blake used to be a very good crimes beat reporter when one of his informant got killed, which affected Blake greatly and he moved to writing about sports.

Now, he's moved to San Antonio to be closer to his grandfather and his friend and newspaper owner gives him the crime beat which he is reluctant to take. This brings him to compete against Sabrina Jones, a crime beat reporter for a rival newspaper.

Very soon these two are in fierce competition with Blake wondering about his attraction to her(his ex-girlfriend blind-sided him by marrying another man). Sabrina likes her job but when it comes to personal relationships is wary(the women in her family get married multiple times and for her one divorce is enough).

I enjoyed the book but didn't love it, there was a big sub-plot about women who look like Sabrina getting killed and Blake wanting to protect her even when going against her.

The good thing about romance novels is that you start out with the gist of what's going to happen. This one tried a bit of a twist to the plot, as they usually do, and I did enjoyed the protagonists, the subplot was easy to deduce and it ended right after it "got going" as far as the romance. They spent way too long fight-flirting. It was ok though.

Story of 2 reporters working on the same stories most of the time. When Sabrina becomes the target of a deranged killer, Blake is more interested in keeping her safe.
