Rate this book
Survival is no longer a choice. It’s a war.

As the ash-filled skies grow darker, the fight for survival intensifies across fractured America.

Chris now a hardened leader must outmaneuver King’s brutal marauders while safeguarding her farm and its people. But the enemy’s tactics are evolving—with drones overhead and ambushes at every turn.

Gabby takes the fight to the front lines, risking her life on daring supply runs through Kentucky’s hostile terrain, driven by fierce loyalty and a sharpened resolve.

Nick battles his way west with Riley at his side, surviving militia attacks and refugee chaos in the ravaged mountains of Appalachia.

Cha races against time to engineer a fix for Earth’s broken weather system, gambling everything on a last-ditch atmospheric experiment that could restore sunlight—or doom millions.

Mercer descends into a blazing Atlanta inferno where exploding warehouses and desperate evacuees test the limits of his courage and command.

As old alliances deepen and new threats emerge, no one is safe—and no place is untouched by the spreading fire.

Perfect for fans of post-apocalyptic realism, After the Impact, Book Six is a heart-pounding ride filled with grit, sacrifice, and moments of aching humanity.

This is the sixth of a six-book series.

Welcome to my little space out on the web. I'm Kenny Soward, and I'm an author, musician, and once IT guy. I write books in many sub-genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including post-apocalyptic, military science fiction, epic fantasy, and horror. I'm influenced by authors such as Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Mark Lawrence, Dan Simmons, Robin Hobb, Robert McCammon, Larry Correia, and Mike Kraus.

I love all kinds of movies and shows from Battle Star Galactica (reboot) to the Walking Dead. There's nothing I won't try.

I grew up in Kentucky in a small suburb just south of Cincinnati, Ohio, listening to hard rock and playing outdoors. In those quiet 1970's streets, I jumped bikes, played Nerf football, and came away with many scars.

My grandfather and many of my uncles and cousins served in the United States Military, and my father was a Kentucky State Trooper. Their efforts taught me the meaning of sacrifice and gratitude. I've always had an avid curiosity about the world around me, and I hope my enthusiasm for life carries over into my stories, even the dark ones.

Stupendous work of art

Immersed in this captivating book series, I found myself unable to put it down, often reading well into the night. The author's vivid storytelling and richly developed characters transported me directly into their world, making the narrative feel incredibly authentic and immediate. By exploring unconventional scenarios that most people rarely contemplate, the book offers a thought-provoking and unsettling perspective on human nature. The narrative strikes a delicate balance between chilling realism and profound honesty, challenging readers to consider extraordinary circumstances. While the situations depicted are deeply provocative, they ultimately serve as a compelling exploration of human resilience and potential. This book is a remarkable eye-opener that will linger in your mind long after you've turned the final page.

Everything a proper finale should be!

From The Ashes, the exceptional conclusion to the After The Impact series. It is simply put: perfect. The action is non-stop and unpredictable, the characters exhibit remarkable capacity for growth and self sacrifice, the dialog is just right and the pace is relentless! I'm not going to get into details in this review, suffice it to say that it couldn't have been written better. This finale was a long time in the making and well worth the wait! 5/5 stars, highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic survival thrillers and anyone who enjoys books about unlikely heroes who rise to meet whatever unbelievable challenges they might face!

As always, thanks for the review of what happened in the previous books. This was the final book in a very good series and ends it exceptionally well. There is a lot of action and some great resolution, though not without some cost. This was a satisfying end with a lot of hope for the survivors and very well done. The dedication "to the Firefighters" was perfect.

Such a good series.

The only thing I didn’t like about this series was waiting for the last book to be released! I love the characters and the storyline kept up with them throughout the series. I am an avid end-of-the-world reader and this series is top notch. It brings a different apocalyptic event to light and is so descriptive and just all around well-written.

An interesting outcome

I truly enjoyed this series. KS surpassed himself in laying out this series. With each book, the story just got deeper into the human family's will to survive and overcome desperate situations. The finale was quite different from other series in this genre.

Great read

I genuinely enjoyed the book series. The right blend of everything that matters. Thanks for the great journey! Thanks for not just showing ugly side of humanity. It is all to often on display in stories of this genre, but it was perfectly balanced with good.Showing that you can keep it real and not just be negative.

Wonderful, and heart wrenching series!

This is a very different, and novel approach to the apocalypse. Strong characters and truly evil bad guys. It's been very hard to put down. Well written and edited perfectly.

Felt like way too many wasted words that didn’t add to the plot!

Book had believable characters. A little too wordy especially describing scenery. I had to push myself to finish beginning around chapter 31.

Think some scenes lack story telling discipline.

engaging

All six books are well crafted to include different characters in a possible story of destruction, perseverance and love. Okay.
