I'm a mom of four, Air Force wife, and author of adult and young adult dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and science fiction. I love intense world building and character driven stories that feature strong female leads - as well as a side of romance - and any end of the world scenario. Zombies, aliens, a distant future where people have no clue how the world ended in the first place, you name it, I will create a story there!

Having lived in a lot of different places after more than a decade as an Air Force wife, I love setting my books in cities I've actually lived in to give them authenticity. I've resided in: Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, and Oklahoma but am currently back in my home state of Ohio where I live with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and three cats.

When I'm not writing, you can find me by my pool (in the summer), getting lost in some binge-worthy show or at a play with my husband, patronizing one of the great restaurants in my small town of Troy, Ohio with my family, or traveling. I want to see everything and make a point of visiting a new place every year!

Some of my favorite books are The Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, The Host, and The Stand. My favorite movies are Aliens, Jaws, Signs, Say Anything, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and The Greatest Showman.

"If I could have one wish, I'd wish for you."

Annie Roth is finally a college student and she's away from her very strict father, from a secluded life and ready to explore her life under a new prospective. She no longer gets controlled, she no longer has to obey to his rules and she only wants to find out her true self.

After a tragedy had hit her family, Annie had stayed under her father's wings for 19 years and until now she was being dressed by him, watching football and acting like one of the guys. Being suffocated by her father and her four brothers, Annie hadn't explored her feminine side and neither what she truly liked to do away from them. Now she's finally away and along with her new roomate, Cami, they make a list for Annie to complete before she turns 20.

Annie finally lets loose and she meets new people, makes new friends and amonsgt them two guys make her feel complicated. She sets her eyes on Ryan and Chris. The worst? They set theirs on her too. Even worst? They are best friends.

This was a book that really troubled me while reading it. The feeling didn't go away when I finished the book, sadly it simply intensified. I wasn't a fan of how things ended and that affected my rating.

I love this author's writing and this was one of the reasons that I was excited when I saw this new book. I trusted her and I picked it up immediately. Sadly, I can't rate this higher. I understood that the heroine wanted a more loose life, but I thought that she wasn't fair to Chris. Yes, she was clear with him, but her actions made me mad. Especially at the club.

I was really frustrated pretty much with everyone, especially after I finished the book. I thought that it was unfair because the whole mess that was going on during the book, never got solved, in my opinion. They were playing cat and mouse and for what? I just felt like the story didn't end, I didn't get the closure I needed and that lack really left me unsatisfied.

Other than that, I enjoyed the writing and I will be reading the rest of the series. Really loved Liam and Cami as characters so I can't wait to read about this british lad.

PS:Thank you for the BR, Nicoleta! :)

***3,5 stars for me***

This book was very good!!!

I liked the whole idea with the list and i really liked the characters, but in some point they irritated me so much!!!

I don't want to be unfair with this book because it was a really nice reading and very well-written...
But like i said in some point, i wanted to break my e-reader from the anger.... and still, i couldn't put it down!!!

Why so much anger??? Hmmm... Let me take the things from the start...

Annie went to college and for the first time in her nineteen years she is away from her home and the 5 men that surrounded her life all these years... Her father and her four brothers... They loved her too much and they sheltered her more than enough... As a teenager and as a kid she have lost lots of things... She dressed as a boy, she hadn't date, she hadn't been kissed, she haven't partying... for God shake's she even hasn't holes in her ears!!!!
So, Annie together with her roomate Kami are making a list with all the thing that Annie should do until her twentieth birthday in a year...

Some of them are so much easy to accomplish, but some others are not easy at all!!! And the things get more complicated when in her life step up two wonderfull boys!!!

Ryan and Chris...
They are both good-looking, funny, hot and kind!!!

Did i confused you??? Yeah, i know that feeling!!!
The only thing that i have to tell you is that they confuse both Annie and myself...
Because in a way, it started a love triangle...
Ding!!! Ding!!! Ding!!!! In that point, my mind started to alert!!!

Because i had choose my team from the first moment... Ryan, Ryan, Ryan!!!

And believe me when i'm saying that Annie choose her team also, but they still confused her and all the things turned out wrong!!!
Did i mention that Ryan and Chris was best friends???
Oh, yeah!!! Here we go....

And the worst of all was that i loved them all...
I didn't like that they were struggle all the time...
Because none of them was happy or a winner...
The three of them were caught up in a sick situation that it wasn't good for neither of them!!!

I didn't like that Annie let others to guide her somewhere that she wasn't sure that she wanted to be and i didn't like that she keep doing the same mistakes again and again from her own disappointment!!!

She was hurting not only herself, but both Ryan and Chris!!!
And i don't have to mention that scene in the club... If you have read it, you know what i mean!!!... I wanted to slap her so bad...

But no, i don't accuse her for anything... I can understand her!!!
After so many time, she finally had her life in her own hands and she wanted to taste it, but in some point she overreacted... and i think that this was the result of that she could not have what she really want...

And now the boys...
Their friendship caused so many troubles to Annie...
She couldn't have the one she wanted so her only option was the other!!! Wrong!!! One of them have to step back for the other....
So what was the result??? Pain, pain, pain!!!
Fuck!!! Why the things have to go there??? Why??? Why??? Why????
They really break my heart and at the same time i wanted to kick them in their asses... I'm still furious with them!!!

I won't reveal you who did and what, you'll have to find out by yourselves!!!

Thank God, at the end everything get clear, except for one major thing with Chris, but i'm hoping that i will find out about that in the next book...
In this point, i have to tell that i liked very much Kami... She was full of energy!!! And i liked that British dude, Liam!!! I can't wait for their story!!! It will be very interesting....

Buddy reading with Sophie... Thank you sweetie!!! <3<3<3

This book could have worked but then stupid characters happened. I thought I was going to like this story but that was not what happened here. Nope.

Annie was such a dull character and not because of her father, no. It was because that's how she truly was. I couldn't understand how reckless she was.

Look, I get that she wanted to live, I really do. I get that she wanted to do stuff for her, I do but girl, really? That wasn't living that was I'm going to do all the stupid things people get killed for. If you never had a drink before, you do not get wasted in a bar. You do not go home with a stranger is you're not up for a hook up, you do not leave your stupid wild ass friend alone in a bar with a stranger no matter what.

I'm so so mad at Annie.
description

And her romance with Ryan?
At the begining I thought it was cute because I like Ryan but then I realised how superfial their relationship was. They bounded because they both lost their mothers, okay, they were hot for each other, okay and what else?
I don't like Chris but Annie and Chris had more moments that could have made a relationship than her and Ryan so no. At the end I didn't like them together and there was so little evolution in their relationship. Ugh.

The thing with Annie's dad was taken to a whole new level and I'm no sure it was handled well.

I mean, if I were straight out of high school and facing my first semester in college, this is not a book I will not pick up. I send the wrong message and I'm not okay with that because what did I learn from this book? Nothing, nada, zero.

Nah, bro, I'm out of here.

Title: The List
Series: College of Charleston #1
Author: Kate L. Mary
Release Date: 26 May 2015
Rating: 3 stars
Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

*3.5 very conflicting stars*

*Annie*

*Ryan*

I really enjoyed this book, for the most part of it, but the ending ruined it for me. You can't end a book just like that! There were so many unresolved issues i don't even know where to start!!! (I think i'm a little mad..)

From the blurb it seems like a typical NA story: virgin goes to college, virgin makes a list, virgin makes some immature choices, virgin is not a virgin anymore. What made this story stand out for me was the problems Annie had to deal with at home, the tragedy that changed her whole life and how big of an impact it made on her family. Her decision to leave home and go somewhere far away for college was the easiest thing she had to do because she needed to get away from her overprotecting/smothering father and brothers.

Annie was pretty much sheltered throughout her entire childhood and teenage years. She never went out, didn't have any real friends and never experienced all the things a typical teenager gets to experience. She feels like she's missed out on so many things so the first thing she does when she goes to college is write some kind of a bucket list that she must accomplish before she turns twenty.

We have some kind of a love triangle going on .

Ryan didn't make a big impression on me. He acted cowardly throughout the whole book. Sure he was a likable character and his feelings towards Annie were real and genuine but

Regardless the negative things I've mentioned above, the book would definitely get a solid 4 star rating from me if it wasn't for the ending. The ending felt like a cliffhanger but in reality it wasn't. As far as i know this book was a standalone but there were a lot of unresolved issues for me like .

This was a fun New Adult contemporary that I really enjoyed. I read this between blog tours and it was kind of nice to read something without an agenda attached to it. So I really just sat back and let myself enjoy this one.

I loved Annie right off. I've seen and been through the protective parent thing, and so I related to Annie immediately. I think we'd probably find that a lot of people were able to relate to her just as well, as being the victim of an overly protective parent is something many people endure. I loved Annie's roommate, how quickly she befriended her, made her feel welcome, and helped he create her bucket list so that she could experience everything she'd been missing out on.

If I was her, I would have picked the guy she picked also. Both guys in this story were great, but one is more sweet and one is more sexy. I like to have a combo of both, but the sexy one just seemed to be a combination of both that I wanted. Not that I didn't like the other one... I just don't think he was exactly right for Annie. I loved the sexual tension between these two, the whole forbiddenness of it all because the two guys are best friends, and the one she wants won't act on their attraction because of his friend.

There were some predictable moments, but they weren't bad really. I knew who she was supposed to be with, and I did feel horrible for the other guy, so hopefully he will get his own book. I hope this experience matures him a little also.

The list itself and the characters were what made this story so interesting. Even the secondary characters were good. I loved the writing, and just really enjoyed myself while reading this book. It was simple and sweet, with a secret and a little bit of emotional upheaval. A nice combination.

For every 3 good books I read, I find 1 which I absolutely loathe. 3 guesses on which book it is now...

Look, it started out okay enough. Girl moves into her new college dorm, bumps into Hot Guy 1 on her way, makes friends with her fun, eccentric roommate and crushes on roommate's cousin, Hot Guy 2.

And from then on, it all goes to shit.

I'm not crazy about love triangles, but I will tolerate (even sometimes like it) if it is done well. This (obviously) wasn't.

Before jumping into that, I'd like to also point how comically stereotypical British people and Biker dudes are shown here. I'm not saying that British people don't use these slangs (hence, why they are known for it), but I don't know whether to be impressed or annoyed by the use of not 1, not 2, but 3 slangs in just one sentence

"You gotta take your flat key with you when you go runnin', mate. What if I'd been in the loo?"

And even though I have biker dudes from a distance (more often when they zoom past my granny speed of 90 km/ph on a highway), I dont think any of them say stuff like...this

"Annie, huh? I like it," he said, blowing smoke into the air. "Sounds innocent. There is nothing I like more than corrupting an innocent."

But all of this was I could possibly avoid if the rest of the book hadn't been a complete mess. Which brings me to my main problem: Annie.

When you think of a girl named Annie, who did you think of?
Annie from the musical?
Orphan Annie?
Badass sharpshooter Annie?
Your aunt/cousin/sister/friend Anne who everyone calls Annie?

Boy, does Annie have a history.

I'll tell you what; I get why she wanted to be free. Annie had an overprotective childhood because of her mother's death. She'd been carefully watched over by her father and brothers because they don't want her to get hurt. Understandably, she feels caged and wants to experience life free.

But Hell, woman. Experience does not mean stringing along a guy who clearly has affections for you when you like his best friend. Yes. You saw right. Annie strings along Chris (AKA Hot Guy 1) and half heartedly going out with him when she loves his best friend. Why? She didn't want to feel alone.

Sorry, dude, but you disgust me.

I mean, how could you? This guy keeps telling you he loves you and wants a real relationship with you and you still keep casually going out with him despite knowing he wants more. He's obviously hurt, and yet, you treat his feelings like nothing.

The supporting characters weren't noteworthy, so all in all, do not recommend.

Man, I felt like I just worked for every kiss, every touch, and every glance...holy anticipation, Kate L. Mary. I've never wanted to scream "Just get together already!" at fictional characters so loudly in my life.

Annie has always been protected--so much so that she fights to go to college across the country from her overbearing dad and brothers. Once she gets to Charleston and becomes insta-besties with her roommate Cami, she hopes only fun will follow, creating a list of things she wants to do by the time she turns twenty, an endeavor fully supported by Cami. When she meets Chris and Ryan, two older guys in Cami's circle of friends, she realizes that she may want to do more (or all) of those things with Ryan...despite the fact that she and Chris are attracted to one another as well.

This story tugged at my heartstrings in so many ways. Firstly, because Annie's lack of experiences are so relatable. The experience of getting to college and suddenly realizing that perhaps you've missed a couple milestones along the way is something I certainly related to! Her relationship with Cami was so charming particularly for that reason--having an encouraging friend who is willing to go all in with you and help you check off all your goals is always a plus, and it was fun to see the two characters feed off each other. The love triangle was SUCH an emotional rollercoaster--every kiss and every sweet moment felt like riding to the top of the hill just before the thrill on the way down. There were so many moments where I thought something would happen, just for the story to take another direction.

This is a sweet story with so many realistic situations, heartbreak, and heartwarming moments. I loved it (so much that I read it until 2:30 in the morning)...Five stars. I can't wait to read the sequel.

**I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Kensington via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is May 26th 2015**

I had a really good time with this story. Being along for the ride as Annie finally had a chance to break free and be a normal teenager on the cusp of adulthood was a fun read. The fact that she had a before twenty "bucket list" to play catch up with was entertaining.

Although a fun concept the highlight of the story for me was the romance (no spoilers hence no names given). A lot of times you find yourself dying from anticipation and wishing the characters would just surrender to each other. In this case it was the anticipation that was the best part. It was the stolen eye contact and silent communication that expressed so much in this story. I can not really express it but the connection was so much more than physical. I sighed every time there was eye contact in the rear view mirror. This part of the story was very well done.

Although there were parts of the story where I thought it was walking the line between girls having fun and girls being stupid and putting themselves in dangerous situations, the story was always brought back before it crossed the line. Parts reminded me of when I was first on my own and having a good time with the experience but sadly it was the more tame parts.

I have to admit that I really enjoyed this read. I can see it appealing to fans of NA who enjoy reading about the college aged crowd. I think there may be another book coming out with one of the secondary characters and I will be eagerly awaiting it's release to continue the journey.

Holy sexual frustration, Batman! I can't remember the last time I read a romance in which I so badly wanted the characters to get past their issues and get it on already! This was a great, entertaining read about a girl trying to find her way in college after leading a sheltered life. I love that the characters are flawed and have so many real life issues keeping them apart. I hope the small loose ends are covered when we hear Cami's story in the next book. Literally sat down and read it in one day. This was one of my favorite reads, which is no surprise considering the author. Kate L. Mary has written another emotional masterpiece that will stay with me for a long time!

The power of gravity. That’s what I kept thinking of as I read THE LIST by Kate L. Mary. The gravity of love and love’s gravity. The gravity of choices our parents make and how we become tethered to the past.

THE LIST is the story of Annie, a teenager, leaving home for college, away from her father’s misguided need for total control. She finally has freedom. Freedom to get her ears pierced, to put on makeup, dare to look at boys, and maybe even kiss for the first time. She quickly makes friends with a colorful cast of characters and with the help of her roommate she creates a list of things she must do while she’s still a teen. Now, Chris wants to be with her, which is awesome – finally guys are noticing her – but the guys she really wants, Ryan, who won’t make a move because Chris is his best friend. Ugh!

On the surface, THE LIST may seem like a fun collage age coming of age story. And it is! But frankly that’s misleading and incomplete at best. In the hands of Kate L. Mary, this novel goes deep into this cast of flawed characters, their decisions are brutally real, and their scars are still bleeding. The chemistry is blistering and the characters are so dynamic that each could have a book of their own. Finally I should point out that this book is able to pull off both sweet and steamy all at once. What? You ask. Yes, it is! In the hands of Mary, this book accomplishes just that.

Fair warning: once you start you may not be able to stop. This is a fun, fast-paced story, with heat and heart.

I highly recommend it!

Big thanks to Lyrical Press and NetGalley for an ARC copy for review.

This was a fun and sexy New Adult series. Was it at times predictable? Sure, but it didn't take away from the story. While there was plenty of romance, it's also about a girl discovering her own path through life and what she truly wants for herself. The main character Annie was a likable girl. She's young and wants independence, but she has the biggest heart and loves her family and friends fiercely. Though the story of her mother broke my heart.

"My own mother's death was something my family didn't talk about, so I understood why Ryan kept it to himself. ~ Annie

Annie's father was never the same after his wife died, still severely depressed, and an alcoholic. I can't even begin to imagine the pain he must have been going through. Always living his life in fear for himself and his kids. But his behavior towards his daughter made me kind of angry. He even couldn't look at Annie half of the time, and I wanted to cry for her during one scene. I did get a little annoyed with Annie when it came to her situation with Chris. It felt like she was leading him on a lot. I did like her chemistry with Ryan though and I thought he was perfect for her. They definitely had some great moments together.

"I love you," he whispered.
My throat tightened when I propped myself up on my elbows to look into his eyes. "I love you." ~ Ryan and Annie

I enjoyed the secondary characters Cami and Liam. Those two were funny. The ending for Ryan and Annie was a happy one with hopefully a great future ahead of them. I can't wait for book two in the series, which I believe is Cami and Liam's story.

The List is the first book I've read by the author Kate L Mary. I liked the look of the synopsis, so thought I'd request it on NG, after all I do like a good old new adult romance.

Listing what I didn't like about this book is probably quicker than what I did like. In honesty I had very few issues with it. I liked the writing style. I liked that Annie is naive but the author didn't make her sound like she was 13 which is often the case with these new adult books. The story has good pace, there's a great group of friends who are all different and I felt connected to all of them. I felt there was true emotion in The List too. I really felt Annie's turmoil when it came to her family and upbringing. Although she was so sheltered in many ways she was exceptionally grown up too. The connection with Ryan and Chris was really great too.Nothing like a love triangle although you could see from the get go where this was going to head.

So, are you wondering what my issue was? Well, it was with Chris and towards the end. I really don't like to give spoilers and its something I avoid with my reviews. But it felt like he after him being such a main player in the story it was forgotten about at times.

The List was a great read and would make a perfect Summer vacation book list. Its sweet, loving, beautiful and honest and I loved the connections. Cami was the perfect room mate and I'm sure you will find her fun to read about too, especially when we get the second book. The List has no cliff hanger, can be read as a stand alone and a HEA - 4 stars.

What a cute and endearing concept for a book. Yes, if you’ve been sheltered and are finally on your own, a list seems fitting for a teenager girl in her freshman year of college.

I was completely drawn in from the beginning with this. The only girl in the family with 4 older brothers and a VERY over protective father, Annie chose a college on the other side of the country to get some distance and experience life. Little did she know that her first 6 months in college were going to be jam packed with excitement thanks to her roomie, Cami.

Like most YA or NA reads, Annie meets a boy, Chris, on her first day of school and of course there is some kind of chemistry. The catch, turns out he’s the best friend of her roommates brother, Ryan, whom she seems to have MORE chemistry with but since Chris saw her first...well.

When the roomie finds out that Annie has lived a sheltered life, she decides that “a list” needs to be made. And this list needs to be completed before Annie turns 20, a full years time. Cami is a little wild though, so she knocks most of the list off in 4 months flat.

I REALLY thought that this was well written. The Author kept the timeline moving at a respectable and entertaining rate where I wasn’t bored nor lost. It even felt “real” with some of the issues that presented themselves. I was so in to this read that I was able to finish it within a day and a half (would have been quicker if my kid wasn’t sick). Can’t wait to get my hands on Cami’s story!!!

If you like NA, college love and a whole lot of teenage growing up to do, you’ll love this one. Highly recommended.

When I read the description of this book, I couldn't wait to read it. The story looked like a fun read. I thought, a new adult romantic comedy, YES!!! That is my favorite kind of new adult book. So many on the market now, have really sad stories attached to them. They focus on heavy social issues/ family issues, making them somewhat depressing.

The unfortunate element to this book, was the focus on heavy family issues. There is so much trauma in these characters lives. I didn't expect it and boy, did I cry, like book cry really hard. I didn't sign up for a Molly McAdams' tearjerker.

That being said, I did like the concept. It was a fun way to assimilate the main character into society and open her up to what life as a teenager was really like. She was very sheltered, so I did feel bad about her situation.

I loved Cami's personality, but she was a little too wild to make a good role model for Annie. Even though Annie was exploring herself and held onto some sort of moral compass, I didn't like some of the things Cami exposed her to.

Love triangles are my absolute favorite kind of romances! The only downside to this particular one, was that there was a clear choice throughout most of the book. I never for once thought it would end any differently.

Overall, even with the downsides to this book, it was a good read. I enjoyed being a part of Annie's journey. If you made a list of twenty things to accomplish in a year as a freshman in college, what would you choose?

Ok, I just found another New Adult series to love. I suppose it was predictable but I felt that I was still surprised by a few aspects. The pull and connection these two had was intoxicating. I literally re-read the last chapter or so because I was that sad to see it end. I liked that it was realistic in that others had an impact on their relationship even if they didn't want them to. Cannot wait for more! When a book has you re-reading immediately not because you are confused, but because you want to relive that moment, you know it is a 5 star keeper!

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest revieW from NetGalley.

Fun concept? Yep.

Laugh out loud narrative voice? Definitely.

Smoking hot sex? Abso-freaking-lutely.

The List was a fun read that kept me flipping pages to the very end. I love a good old-fashioned love triangle, and Annie's past adds a unique thread of tension that Kate. L. Mary pulls through the entire story--making it a special spin on an well-loved trope.

The secondary characters were also a ton of fun, and I was super excited to see Cami, Annie's roommate, is the main character of book two. Preorder here I come!

This was a super cute story. It was all about learning life, the ups the downs, trying new things and falling in love. It also had a great story line with it. This book made me want to keep reading to find out what happened next. Which I did lol. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great story. I loved how the author wrote I will definitely be looking for more books from her.

I loved this book. I had never before read this author but she is now one of my must reads. So good so so good. The one sour note for me was Annie's roommate I found her to be obnoxious but other than that it was perfection.

Wasn't perfect but I really, really, loved it.
The Good
Did you ever read a book that while you were reading it you knew it wasn't amazing but to you it was? That's The List for me.

I was fascinated with the story the whole time. I was excited as Annie got to experience real life for the first time. She has been sheltered all her life, so when she gets to college it's like a kid in a candy store. First time for parties, drinking, friends, boys, and sex. But there was also heartbreak and pain. I love how easily Annie opened herself up to new experiences but she didn't totally change everything about herself. Faults and all, I loved Annie the whole time.

Cami was an amazing best friend to Annie. She introduced her to new things and helped Annie find herself. Chris was so sweet. He could be a bit judgmental but he always had Annie's best interest in mind. But it was Ryan who shined the most. He was so easy going and fun. He had a constant smile on his face that made everyone else smile. He had his faults as well, but he made up for them in spades.

This felt like a coming of age story but for a new adult audience. I think I realted to this story because I too experienced the best and most fun parts of life at an older age. The List really spoke to me on so many levels.
The Bad
I really liked Ryan but he really pissed me off sometimes. He treated Annie like a yo-yo, pulling her in then pushing her away. It wasn't fair. I know he was going through his own crap but, seriously, man up!
The Snuggly
There is some sex but it's not the focus. It was done well and was semi hot but nothing super detailed.
Final Thoughts
I loved this, plain and simple. Not everyone will because each one of us is looking for something different. But for me, it was a homerun. Very recommended.

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

I flew through this awesome, fast read in a matter of hours! This was such a fun, and often heartbreaking story. Annie is a college freshman who missed out on doing a lot of "teen things" growing up due to her overbearing and mentally ill father, who was so paranoid of his daughter getting hurt that he essentially kept her a prisoner in her own home.

When Annie arrives in college across the country, she realizes she only has one year left of being a teenager and decides to make a sort of teenage bucket list of things she wants to do before she turns 20, with the help of her "more experienced" roommate, Cami. Things on the list include silly things like buying makeup and staying out all night, but then progress to things like losing her virginity and breaking someone's heart.

Annie realizes she is attracted to both Cami's cousin Ryan, and Ryan's best friend Chris, and starts casually dating Chris. However, when she realizes that those feelings are quite a bit stronger for Ryan than Chris, she must decide whether entering into a relationship with Chris was a good idea after all - especially when Chris seems to be falling for Annie awfully hard.

I think the thing I liked most about this novel was the main character. I absolutely loved how sex-positive Annie was portrayed, even though she was a virgin, breaking out of the usual "blushing innocent virgin" romance trope. Why is it that female characters who are virgins are always defined by their virginity, and often portrayed as shy and innocent, needing to be "corrupted"? I loved that Mary strayed from this trope by portraying Annie as a sex-positive teenager with hormones and desires - who just hasn't lost her virginity yet.

I also loved that Annie was not perfect. She made a lot of mistakes, and then had to deal with the consequences. Her thought process felt very realistic throughout the whole book, and reminded me of life as a college freshman. I cringed at some of Annie's choices along the way, but could completely relate to why she made them.

Also, this is just a personal thing, but as a 5'10" woman, I LOVED that she was tall!! I feel like the love interest heroine is always described as short / petite / small and I was so happy to see a tall woman in the spotlight.

This was a really fun book that is a great quick read. While THE LIST is a much different story and genre than Mary's BROKEN WORLD series (which I am currently reading - book 2), I still think fans of BROKEN WORLD will love this book because it is written in a similar style, with flawed but relatable characters driving the story. I highly recommend this one!

5 STARS!!

You know how you start a book thinking it's going to be one thing, then you finish and think holy &*^% that was awesomely intense. That was my view on THE LIST. I love books whose premise revolves around a list. Bucket lists. Lists that get the character to participate in things they've never done. This book fulfilled my need and then some.

I expected a light, fun story, but I got an amazing read with an emotional ride. Kate L. Mary knows how to hook you in with characters you want to be friends with, and guys you want fighting over you. ;) I'm also the reader that loves when I can connect with books on a personal level. I could connect with Annie. I grew up fairly sheltered. Not as sheltered as her, but there were similarities. I actually saw college Sophia making some of the decisions that Annie did--in fact I'm pretty sure a few things may have happened. (Another story for another time).

Let's talk about the triangle. I didn't know what to do, how to feel. It pulled at my heart. Made my stomach tight. Ryan, but Chris, but RYAN!! Because that boy got me. He got me and I wanted to smack him and then I wanted to jump in bed with him. And well...Even up until the end, I was still guessing. I knew what I wanted. I knew what Annie wanted, but I wondered it if was gonna happen. Deep breath.

I loved the portrayal of family - and how families aren't perfect, but they can still be there for you in their own way. And it takes some people years--if ever--to get through some grief stages. I'm a person who goes through the cycle many times at various points of my life. It's so sad to see Annie's dad, who gets stuck in a stage and can't pull himself out. Mary does such an amazing job of writing his character, even though we see the story through Annie's eyes.

You want this book on your summer reading shelf. Especially since we get to know Cami, Annie's best friend, so well. And her story is next in the College of Charleston series! Woo hoo!! I liked Cami. She reminded me of my own college best friend--my partner in crime for all sorts of shenanigans.

Go. Buy. Read. Take it to the beach/pool. It's summer, baby!

This story begins with Annie escaping her fathers controlling house and going to school across the country. Day one she meets her new roommate who she quickly grows close to and two guys…Chris and Ryan. Chris and Ryan are best friends and Ryan is her roommates cousin. After settling in, Annie’s first order of business is making a list of all the things she wants to do before her 20th birthday now that she is free. She thinks she knows exactly what she hopes to accomplish and with who but Chris and Ryan are complicating things.
The more time she spends with these guys, the more Annie finds herself falling for Ryan…but Chris is the one that is making his play known. Heartbreak and drama ensue and Annie ends up getting a lot more than she bargained for when she made her list.
I really loved this book. It was a little slow to start for me which is the only reason I didn’t give it a five star rating but once it finally hooked me, I did not want to put it down. So basically what I am saying is even though it starts a little slow, stick with it…you won’t be disappointed!
You can tell right from the start who has Annie’s heart but it is not an easy journey by any means. Both guys have feelings for her but there are all kinds of complications along the road. This book became a real emotional rollercoaster. It is very well written with wonderful main and support characters.

My thoughts:
POV Annie
Quick hook or slow starter? 4 (it took a few chapters to hook me)
Character development: 5
Level of Romance between characters: 5
Passion/Heat level: 5 (there is just the right amount of heat and passion for the story and it is in just the right places in the story)
Angst/Heartbreak: 5 (like I said, it is an emotional rollercoaster)
Cliffhanger?: Nope, it gives you a nice happy ending

Overall, I thought this was a great read and I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I'll start off by saying that this book contained TOO much angst. Everything was complicated. Even the simplest problem that came up for Annie was too much. Don't get me wrong. The first 230 pages (on my iPad) were awesome, but then I noticed a trend and it just got annoying.

I started out liking and respecting Annie, but by the end I was rooting for it all to go down hill. I understand that she's been sheltered and wants to experience life, but what responsible person goes out to club, gets drunk and while drunk consents after being asked by an older drunk guy if they could go back to his apartment? I'd like to point out though that she didn't go to the afore mentioned apartment because she got intercepted by her flavor of the week (Chris) and his friends.

I had a problem with a lot of Annie's actions. For example, when she knew she was over Chris she still kept leading him on, kept making excuses and never told Cami because she was scared Cami would get mad. My question: WHY would she get mad? Just because the other person likes you doesn't mean you have to go with the flow!

Chris started out decent, but turned into a total girl by page 400. He was more emotional then Annie and that's saying a lot after you actually finish reading this book. He was the clingy one and it bothered me SO much. The worst part was reading about Annie complain about being helpless and not wanting him and blah blah blah.

Ryan was a coward. even he didn't know what he wanted in life when it came to Annie. He kept leading her along and then would (metaphorically) slap her for believing they could have something together. All the back and forth that was happening was making my queasy. By page 500 I wanted it to be over with. I'd prefer to read what was happening in Cami's life.

I just happened upon this book on Netgalley and decided to give it a go. I liked the cover and the synopsis sounded like a book that I would enjoy. I am really glad that I gave this author a chance. I really liked this first book in a series based in South Carolina.

I do like books based in SC because it is my home state and I thought that Kate did a beautiful job of portraying a gorgeous state that is dear to my heart. I also really enjoyed the premise of this story. Annie has been sheltered her entire life by her brothers and father but now that she is away at school she wants to do it up. So her and her crazy and sweet college roomie make a list of all the things she would like to do now that she is free.

“Kind of like a bucket list for your teen years.”

While Annie is trying to complete her “list” she runs into all kinds of trouble. The kind of trouble that happens when your a teenager out on your own for the first time. The kind of trouble that is THE LOVE TRIANGLE kind. I do adore me a love triangle because I love angst and this book had plenty of it. It is also why I love these college romances. Because let’s face it, we make the poorest decisions of our life at this age, but we have a hell of a time doing it. ;) Annie sure does. I knew right away who Annie needed to pick but of course she, Ryan and Chris all make their share of bad choices that lead to more bad choices and even worse consequences.

“If I could have one wish, I’d wish for you.”

If you are a fan of NA books then this is definitely something I would recommend. I really enjoyed it and I am really excited about the future books in this series. I loved the side characters just as much as the main ones and I think these books are just going to get better and better. Cannot wait!

ARC received by Netgalley

I loved this book of Annie finding out who she is without her overbearing family to protect, guard or hold her hostage.

As Annie goes away to college, she finds a best friend, love, heartbreak and most of all she finds herself. The journey that Annie goes on is beautiful and filled with discovery. You can't help but fall in love with Annie's character along with all the other characters in the story.

This book had me hooked for the beginning all the way to the end. The only thing that I felt that was missing was an epilogue. I personally feel the story needed to be wrapped up just a bit more.

Great read and highly recommend.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I love it when a novel grips me and pulls me in feeling every emotion with the characters. Annie broke my heart over and over. I got frustrated and felt tortured as she tried to find her true self and choosing between two great guys. I also tried to figure out the mystery of her mother early on. I had an inkling but it was just a guess. Ryan's mother's story was a little more easier to guess but still brought me to tears. And don't get me started on Cami. She was a hoot. The perfect balance for Annie. Overall great read! I highly recommend.

Another Netgalley read...
Annie had an extremely sheltered childhood in California, and she chose a college across the country to start a new, less restrictive life. She has a meet-cute on her way into her dorm, and her roommate, Cami, is a great wing-girl with a foxy cousin who is more like a brother...let the love triangle escapades begin!
I read this in a few hours. I never came to a good stopping point, I wanted to know their deep, dark secrets! Cami's story is up next, and I'm definitely in!

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In an nut shell this story was a fast, cute read. I really liked all of the characters, they were well written. The one thing I did have trouble believing was that Annie literally had done nothing all her life until she got to college, seems kind of stretched to me but I didn't grow up like that at all so maybe its just me. Also how long it took for Annie and Ryan to get together took forever, I would have liked to see it happen sooner. But for a mostly fun, quick read I would suggest this book.
