I’m still reeling, cos Nina just grabbed me by my throat and rammed me into this one without a single care in the world…rude!
Getting to know Lyam in Chasing Obsession, of course I needed his story 🤭 He’s like a lost boy, feeling alone and always left behind until he meets Riven and their connection is instant, their love a bond held forever and when they come together (pun intended) it’s an art form that can’t be argued with. Throw Mia into the mix and their threesome is something all of us would love to be a part of 😉 Lyam’s banter at times makes you scoff, unlike the effect it has on Damien…yes, he makes his presence known in this book and no less exasperated with Lyam. It’s not all sunshine and flowers though, no, we know due to Lyam’s antics he’s going to get himself into trouble with his poker techniques and he certainly does but will he come out the other side unscathed???

Nina has done it again with this story, it’s a book you don’t want to put down, she entices you in giving you the romantic connections you didn’t know you needed, the angst of playing on the edge, and then if she doesn’t just rip the whole damn rug from under your feet without a care that it affects your balance! The emotions you feel reading this one are so numerous, I haven’t the ability to even explain them; suffice to say if you enjoy MM, MMF spice, teetering on the edge, a modicum of violence, 🤯 and a secret society then this book is for you. Looking forward to the next one 🫶🏻

I’ve read quite a few MM romances but this one…this one is in my tops. Lyam is the perfect funny sarcastic adhd coded character. And Riven is the broody black cat that keeps him in line…kind of? 😅

When I was reading Chasing Obsession I really hated Lyam he was my villain in the book. So when Nina told me there was coming a book about Lyam I was like, goood lord help me. Absolutely addictive from beginning to end!
After reading Chasing Obsession I had to read this book.
Lyam completely stole my heart while simultaneously breaking it into a thousand pieces. This isn’t a story about healing or redemption—it’s about surviving the darkness when the damage has already been done, and it delivers that in the most raw, gripping way possible. In chasing obsession I hated Lyam but this book, seeing his back story wow.
The emotional depth, the tension, and Lyam’s unapologetically unhinged personality made him impossible to look away from. Every chapter pulled me deeper into his fractured world, and I couldn’t put it down. The Nina masterfully balances heartbreak, obsession, and danger, creating a character who is beautifully broken and unforgettable.
If you love your dark romance morally gray, emotionally devastating, and packed with angst, this book is a must-read. Be sure to start with Chasing Obsession to fully appreciate the Cursed Venom Universe.

Devoured this read with no remorse. This book is unapologetically dark with enough tension you could cut it with a knife. I would highly recommend you read chasing obsession before starting this beauty. The backstory of Lyam was everything and more adding the perfect amount of depth for this series and so vividly written you'll be immersed in this read in no time. If you love dark romance and I mean border line leaning on black with spice scenes that'll have you sweating in middle of winter ❤️🔥 with an emotional roller-coaster that won't let you off until the last page is turned then this is the read for you. Highly Recommend!

I absolutely loved Lyam’s romantic, chaotic, & tragic story. When I read Chasing Obsession, I was on the fence about Lyam. After reading his book, I have a whole different outlook. I just want to give him a big hug because phew! Dude just can’t catch a break. I sobbed, I laughed, I giggled, I blushed. This book gave me all the feels. & the spice was truly SPICY. I loved it from start to finish. I absolutely wish I had more pages to read!!!

"I'm Lyam Valros and I've got more issues than brain cells". Me too Lyam, me too.
After reading "Chasing Obsession" I never thought I'd say this but... Do I like Lyam? I don't think I will ever look at Lyam Valros the same way again.
This book is absolutely no joke. I have laughed at Lyam being held together by spite and medical tape. I have cried. I have sat there with my mouth wide open in shock. Then it took me almost 24 full hours before I could dive back in to write a review about how Lyam's story ruined my life. It has been a whirlwind of emotions that neither I or my therapist were prepared for. Ladies and Gentlemen we have emotional damage.
Riven and Lyam are two halves of one whole and we are presented with a beautiful and real relationship, flaws and all. Lyam is cheeky, reckless and doesnt know when to stop pushing-a far cry from his cold, detached, unfeeling, murderous vibes from "Chasing Obsession". Through it all, and despite his imperfections, Riven is his anchor, and when that anchor slips we watch Lyam embrace his darker side and unleash his ability to burn the world down. It is heartbreaking to watch him spiral as he tries to feel something, anything.
The spice. I am still clutching my pearls in one hand and fanning myself with the other- the spice content is unhinged, raw and off the charts.
Nina has created a character who is dark, witty, damaged and has a truly heartbreaking backstory which we glimpses of in the conversations he has with his mother. He's chaotic, fucked up and I'm in love.
To steal Nina's own words this book is "beautiful in the most broken, human way possible".

What damage is done can not be forgotten or erased, but can it? Easier said than done. "But me? I'm all limbs and bad decisions. A small, skinny little prick."
This book was haunting, addictive and indescribable. Lyams story hooks you in from Chapter 1 bringing you on a roller coaster ride of every single emotion that you can endure in a lifetime. The spice intertwined was ferocious, steamy and sizzling! The tragedies that Lyam faced made my heart sink deeply as he couldn't catch a break, suffocating with loss and grief. Lyam went from a kind loving energized person to a darkened soul that's unable to find the peace within, carrying pent up anger and pain.
This book was everything and I couldn't stop reading, nor could I get enough! It hit differently, giving a bigger perspective on Lyam, both past and present. Sometimes the poker hand that's given to you, is either a chance of winning it all or walking away with nothing. Lyam is not your typical antihero—he’s colder, calculated, and intentionally hard to love. But that’s what makes him captivating. His trauma isn’t romanticized; it’s visceral. Nina doesn’t flinch when it comes to portraying pain and the kind of damage that doesn’t magically heal. She leans into it, and it pays off.
The writing is sharp and atmospheric. There’s a constant tension—between Lyam and the world, between his past and his present, and within himself. It’s not about redemption, and that’s what makes it more honest. You don’t root for Lyam to be “fixed.” You root for him to survive, even when he doesn’t want to.
That said, The Devil’s Deck isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s heavy, both emotionally and thematically, and it demands that you sit with discomfort. But if you appreciate complex, morally gray characters and stories that don’t hand out easy answers, this book delivers.

All I have to say is Ohhhhh my Gawwwdddddd! Ninnaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! I’m glad that I took my time cherishing this read, cuz IMO it deserved my undivided attention from start to finish. This is my second read from this brilliant author. I thought Chasing Obession was amazing but she out-did herself by diving into Lyam’s past/his backstory. From him being a background MMC from Chasing to him being the MMC in Devil’s Deck. Wow the character development and the plot twists in this read were phenomenal. Now I see why he is the way he is in Chasing Obession. His attitude and demeanor was quite literally drilled into him. Also this is my first MM read and gawd I’m glad it was my first. What better way to pop my cherry than to read it from my fav author. I loved the connection between Lyam & Riven from start to finish, it all started with a game of cards. They are each other’s match. The spicy scenes had me gripping my kindle the entire time. Girl everytime I read anything you write it’s like watching a movie and like I can drop into the scene and visualize it. Your reading style is utterly amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing, I see greatness!!! I can’t wait to see what your future holds and can’t wait to see you succeed.

Okay it's offical Lyam is my current favourite of this series & I am BROKEN!!!!!
I felt so many emotions reading Lyam's life, everything he goes through, how he turns really deep moments into humorous conversations & shows how just one moment can totally destroy your whole world x
Having lost my mum back in Sept 2022 I lost myself in myself - become a shell of the person she had raised & went into autopilot - so I get home Lyam loses himself in rough, intense, unhinged sexual encounters & decided to join Damien in his work x
I have faith that Cristina can bring Lyam a redemption arc & allow him to return to the boy turned man we meet at the start of The Devils Deck - i hope Lyam see the error of Kage's way & takes a step back from that- Lyam just wants to be loved he has lost too much & due to this i think he sees the good in people even when that person is a lost cause x
I just want to hug Lyam & let him know he is alright things can get better - I'm just worried he would RUIN me & not in the best way 😉😉 xxxxxx

Well… that was gloriously unhinged.
Nina Knox is one of the very few authors I’ve read who actually commits to writing dark romance. Not “dark with a few red flags.” Not “dark until it’s uncomfortable.” I mean dark. She doesn’t soften the edges or try to make you feel safe and honestly? I love her for it.
Lyam completely wrecked me. He’s chaotic, damaged, frustrating, and somehow I still couldn’t stop rooting for him. He’s not your typical book boyfriend, and that’s exactly why he works. The emotional damage? Immaculate.
The tension is relentless, the chemistry is toxic in the most entertaining way possible, and every time I thought I knew where the story was heading… I was wrong.
What I admire most is that the author never backs down. She trusts her readers to handle the darkness instead of diluting it, and that confidence makes this book stand out in a genre where so many stories claim to be dark but end up playing it safe.
This book isn’t here to comfort you. It’s here to ruin your sleep, your emotions, and probably your standards.
And somehow… I can’t wait for more.

Lyam was my least favourite MMC in Chasing Obsession, so I was really keen to see what his story was and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Lyam was not born to be violent, aggressive and obsessive, but rather he became that way due to a number of events in his life.
This book cleverly takes us through Lyam’s journey, his struggles, his heartbreak and ultimately what makes him break.
I related so much more to him knowing his back story, and I adored his partner Riven too, and their unbelievable chemistry, humour and love together.
This book is filled with spice, excitement, humour and heartbreak.
Nina Knox writes flawlessly, allowing us to truly feel every emotion portrayed.
I honestly can’t wait for the next books.

If you're looking to continue straight on from that cliffhanger of chasing obsession, you're not going to get it.. this is lyams story which happens before. I Loved The Devil's Deck
Once again Nina knocks it out of the park with another fabulous dark romance book that I highly recommend! The Devil’s Deck is Lyam’s life story from childhood to how he became who we met in Chasing Obsession. Wow did it pull at my heartstrings! Lyam is hilarious, and there are so many funny lines from him! One I really like is “Still wired like Frankenstein’s sex doll. Come babysit me before I start talking to my IV bag."
His relationship with Riven is absolutely beautiful. The friendship between Lyam and Damien clearly runs very deep and I love how Damien is always there to look after Lyam.
This book had me laughing, near tears, and is a definite emotional rollercoaster. I fell in love with the characters, and want to read more about their stories, especially Damien.

The relationship between Lyam and Riven was 🔥🔥 the spice was off the charts! You could feel the pure chemistry between them, and their banter was such a great bonus. I definitely saw Lyam in a different light compared to when I first met him in Chasing Obsession, I gained a much deeper understanding of his character.
When I first started The Devil’s Deck, I didn’t expect parts of it to be so heartbreaking. It had me bouncing between laughing at the banter and just wanting to give him a hug. Nina really knows how to create MMCs with red flags so big you willingly ignore them! I don’t usually read MM romance, but she has definitely opened a brand new door for me that I didn’t know I needed.
If you love a book packed with twists, a heap load of spice, and the most unhinged, pitch black MMCs, this one needs added to your TBR list!

When I first meet Lyam in Chasing Obsession I was wondering why everyone was making all these dedications of love for this man because clearly we were not reading about the same character. I was not feeling the allure and thought maybe they just ate delusion flakes for breakfast or something.
That being said, after reading The Devil's Deck I will happily choke on my previous words because even though Lyam has a brash attitude underneath that cocky demeanor lays a broken soul that had me experiencing all the feels. His level of sarcasm and humor was a delight. So many of his lines had me cackling like a crazy person. I was totally here for it.
I don't know where Nina conjures these characters from, perhaps from the depths of hell itself, but regardless from where they are sourced I need you to give me more of these mind altering experiences.

What a rollercoaster. The drama, the heat, the spice, the action. There were a lot of parts that hit close to home for me. Lyam and Riven’s love and passion had me in a chokehold the whole time. It’s mostly MM with some MMF and every bit was written so vividly, so beautifully. I was ecstatic that Damien got to be a part of this story, of Lyam’s story and getting to know Lyam’s past and what made him who he is. I definitely did not see the ending coming, and I had so many mixed emotions about it (thanks Nina, now I’m a wreck.) Nina is an amazing author and I’m obsessed with how her stories come together. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the boys’ stories.

I’m obsessed with this story it was beautifully written Lyam is cocky and has a smart mouth but in comedic way. Riven just as cocky as Lyam but more dominant in the bedroom. You’ll fall in love with Lyam and then truly worry about his well being. The amount of spice written into this story will leave you hot and bothered and begging for more. Well Indefinitely got what I wanted out of this book, a great read.
This book is a prequel to Chasing Obsession and focuses on the Lyams back story. It details how he turned from a bit of cocky arse to an unhinged psycho in chasing obsession. It follows his relationship with Riven and the consequences from his reckless actions. It also gave young better understanding of his and Damien's relationship to each other.
I did struggle to get into this book, it was about halfway through before it really had me gripped, and the ending was just right. I would definitely recommend.

Did not expect this to be Lyam's backstory. And I am here for it.
He starts off with pure golden retriever energy loyal, charming, impossible not to love, but watching that slowly twist into something morally grey was what made this book stand out for me. His pivotal turning point felt genuinely impactful rather than thrown in for shock value, and it gave so much depth and backstory to who he becomes. You understand him even when you probably shouldn’t. Dark, addictive, and emotionally layered in all the right ways

Alrighty here folks, we have another BANGER! This one follows Lyam from Chasing Obsession. Lyam was on my shit list from CO. I will admit he is now off my shit list. My sweet angel demon had been dealt the worst hands in life but he still chose to live…even if it’S unhinged madness ,he’s living. My boy has a boyfriend who matches his energy in every way, and I loved reading their story. I will say it is not a HEA, if this is what you’re looking for. Also the guts are getting rearranged and rearranged WELL! I am living for the next book. Be smart and read these books.

I devoured this book in a day, Lyam (lush spelling btw), hasn't had an easy start, or middle to his life so far. A card connoisseur, who his sassy, deviant and resilient. Written really well, with a wit to die for. Hard hitting at times, and with heartbreak forcing Lyam to reassess his life, he battles to the end. Lots of spice throughout, becomming more deviant as he spirals, lost in the past, but with a found family that refocuses his being. And a blast from the past right at the end. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!

Omg so I have to say I started with Chasing Obsession and honestly I was NOT a fan on Lyams. However in this book you get to see why he is the way he is now. In this book he is a sarcastic shithead but he’s also love able and the relationship between him and Riven is the sweetest thing ever. I was absolutely gutted with what happened to Riven and I felt so bad for Lyam. He is just a misunderstood man who wants to be loved but all the people he loves keep leaving or die. I really loved this book and can’t wait to see what else is in store for Lyam, Damien and Kage.

Nina. Nina I'm sobbing right now. This was so good, I genuinely did not think it could get better from her other works, but this is by far my favorite novel by Nina. It was emotional, raw, and just so beautifully crafted. Lyam tugs at your heartstrings and makes you fall absolutely in love with him.
This is not a story with a HEA and please make sure to check the triggers before going in, but it is by far one of the best reads Ive come across and I absolutely adored reading it.
