A modern dancer and a physical therapist engage in a secret relationship in this steamy queer romance by independent author Kent Holland.Jace McCloski thought Broadway was the dream, but the Manhattan Modern Ballet proves to be the perfect stage—until an injury nearly takes Jace out for the season. When a daring, gender-bent Swan Lake presents the dance of a lifetime, Jace refuses to bow out, even if it means pushing to the absolute limit.

A former army trainer turned physical therapist, Orlando Grace believes in discipline, control, and keeping emotions in check. Getting involved with a reckless young dancer was never in the plan. But when their shared desires blur professional lines, carefully rehearsed boundaries might falter.

What begins as a fulfilling physical arrangement soon feels like something more—but in this dance, neither of them knows how the routine will end.

I think this is my favorite book by Kent Holland so far! Of course the story, the writing, and the characters were as great as always. But this one really focused on what it means to be unapologetically queer. It took all of the shame that is so often associated with queerness and completely flipped the script. It celebrated the uniqueness and diversity of queer people in a vibrant and authentic way! Queer people are so diverse when it comes to gender identity, sexual preferences, romantic preferences, etc. and Holland does a great job of capturing that. He celebrates queerness with his writing, while also tackling some difficult issues queer people face. Queer romance isn’t just a genre, it’s a lived experience for so many people. I think Holland is a great writer and champion of authentic, queer romance, which is why he has become an auto-buy author for me!

Phenomenal and beautifully real

A beautiful romance that feels so refreshingly grounded in the queer experience - not just in in Jace's exploration of gender and transformation, which are very apt with the swan lake theme - but in the aspects of queer life, both remarkable and mundane, portrayed so simply and expertly in a way that made the characters feel so very real. I picked this up on a whim wanting to experience a Holland title that wasn't about sports and I'm very glad I did.
