Rate this book
A STANDALONE ANGSTY SPICY MM ROMANCE

NHL star Nathan "Wilder" Wilson never expected a career-threatening injury would lead him to the one thing he's always denied himself. Exiled to a remote New Mexico ranch for rehabilitation, he clashes immediately with his stubborn, perceptive therapist and rugged cowboy, Caleb Harrison.

As endless therapy sessions give way to reluctant understanding, their antagonism ignites into something far more dangerous. When a wildfire forces them to fight for survival together, the walls between them crumble, revealing truths neither is prepared to face.

But Portland and professional hockey await Nathan's return. With his career hanging in the balance and the media circling, can he risk everything for a relationship that crosses every boundary he's established? Meanwhile, Caleb must choose between the family legacy that's defined his entire existence and a future with a man whose life exists fifteen hundred miles away.

Two men, two worlds, one undeniable connection. In hockey and in love, sometimes the riskiest play is the one that changes everything.

About the author

K. Lovecraft

3 books10 followers
K. Lovecraft hates writing in the third person.

She also knows that bios that talk about writing in third person are cliche.

But, come on! Bios are hard.

Okay, here we go:

K. Lovecraft lives with her partner in the rainy Upper Left. She dreams of having a house full of dogs and a field full of horses one day.

The first book she ever wrote was about a horse (she was ten years old and she got an A for effort). The last book she wrote was about a sexy hockey player (I'm not about to divulge her age).

K. believes that writing is an art but sometimes you have to have fun with it too. So this is K., having fun with it!

And she hopes you have fun with sexy heroes, kooky heroines, sexy times and always, always, a safe HEA!

4.5* rounded up. This is a new author to me and I ended up liking this book way more than I expected. I think it's because everyone's struggles felt real, instead of the usual fabricated stuff just to up the angst.
The sex scenes felt a bit unfinished and slightly rushed here and there and I'm not sure if the author just did not want to expand on these too much or if it was intentional to make them quite short. But as I am a character development reader this did not bother me at all. And we do get a lot of character growth here, even if Wilder got on my nerves quite a bit at the end.
Caleb was great, always calm and knew exactly how to engage with Wilder. And I did like that he was not taking any bullshit and knew exactly what he wanted.
I really loved the ending and the epilogue we get. It felt more genuine that we still see them trying to bridge the gap between both their worlds without one of them having to give up on their previous life.

Authentic characters, but overworked plot

Setting and characters were well developed and authentic, but plot was trite and predictable down to tropes of miscommunication, fake dates and hospital drama. If you've never read a hockey / Everyman book this is for you. Otherwise, keep browsing.
